Pathfinder Society Base Classes

House Rules for Hero Points:

1) One permanent Hero Point may be used to avoid a final death scenario allowing a narrow cinematic escape,

2) One temporary Hero Point may be used if you are between -1 and -9 hit points to stabilize yourself to prevent further blood loss,

3) Temporary Hero Points may be expended to power Feats. These grant a lasting bonus for a one scene or one round duration depending on the feat description,

4) One temporary Hero Point grants a character a chance to supplement their d20 roll by 1d6 and add the result (whatever it was - no re-roll) to the d20 result,

Progression system:
Level 1-10 1d6,
Level 11-20 2d6,
Level 21-?? 3d6. and

5) No more than one Hero Point may be expended per round.

Optional rules mostly in the form of New Feats for Hero Points:

Arcane Surge (Prerequisites - Arcane Class) (Allows wielder to increase a spell DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point),

Attune Item (Prerequisites - A Weapon of Legacy) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +3 to attack and damage for the scene with chosen item),

Defensive Ward (Prerequisites - Dodge) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to give yourself a +3 Luck bonus to AC for the scene),

Divine Surge (Prerequisites - Divine Class) (Allows wielder to increase a spell DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point),

Heroic Feat (Prerequisites - None) (Any saving throw successfully made 10 points above an effects DC automatically allows the character to regain 1 used Hero Point),

Heroic Grace (Prerequisite - None) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +1 to all saving throws or +3 to one saving throw for one scene),

Heroic Quickness (Prerequisites - Improved Initiative) (Allows wielder to expend one hero point to add +3 to Initiative checks),

Manifesting Surge (Prerequisites - Psionic Class) (Allows wielder to increase a powers save DC by 3 for 1 round by expending a Hero Point).

The OOC thread.

Here we are! Looking forward to the game.

GM: My archetype (Pai Zin Practitioner) has the fluff that it uses herbalism for the purposes of medicine. But aside from the ability to identify potions with the Profession (herbalist) skill, and do some alchemy with it, it mainly just uses the skill for a class feature at 7th level (removing conditions with Lay on Hands).

So I wanted to know:

1. Would you allow me to treat things like disease and poison with Profession (herbalist) instead of Heal skill?

2. Would you allow me to buy a "herbalist's kit" that works like a masterwork tool or something? If yes, I would like to adjust my gear to get that.

Also: Haven't adjusted background yet but I will get on that shortly.

I went with the Background as is so no worries there.

1. Yes.

2. Yes.

Hey hey, glad to be under way!

A few little questions before things get really swinging:

1) Does the Intelligence bonus from my Scion Ioun Stone come with an associated phantom skill rank in something? If so, what?

2) Where do we stand on using starting funds (little though they be) to buy a few more spells known, as if copying from another caster, per the rules here? If that's not kosher, I'll end up with a few more odds and ends, no big, but it would be nice to flesh out my spellbook a bit.

3) You can't just use Linguistics to pick up Azlanti, correct? 'cause I totally will if that's a thing.

4) Finally: Is it too late to change my gestalt class? We don't seem to have a Delver in our little group here, and I'd be glad to fill that niche. I'm fine sticking with Chronicler (ye gods Deep Pockets is entertaining), but a little more diversification doesn't seem like it'll hurt us.

Shadow's Status

Playing in 20+ games and running 29 (soon to be 30) is time consuming. Outside of the boards I have a fairly busy work schedule and of course a life!

Often I find that if I fall behind in updates, I need to make time to simply update a Discussion Thread to inform the PCs of a particular game that I am either going to be posting later in the day or week or will be on a break form the boards for one reason or another.

To save time updating so many damn threads I am going to open this thread and link all of my DM aliases (and PC aliases) to this thread to inform people as to status.

Of course if people feel the need to ask other questions outside of PbP feel free to do so but mainly this will be a thread dedicated to ensuring that my PCs know my status and to assure everyone that even though I may have some absences away from the boards (or particular games) this thread will always be up to date with my status.

1. I'll have to look as I don't remember off hand and all that data is at home, PM me to remind me to look ;-)

2. If you have funds left, go for it!

3. Correct though as we move forward that will become an option.

4. No, go ahead and change if you like!

Cool, thanks!

...Hm. I wonder if I can justify Ayse not having real ranks in History. Maybe after first level the ioun stone helps get him confused/lazy. Sure, I'll buy that.

I think if you use urea as an alchemical reagent when you cast the cold burning hands you can do it at +4 CL because admixture changes the spell's descriptor to cold.

Urea:

Source Alchemy Manual pg. 33 (Amazon)
Price 5 sp; Weight —
Urea is a highly versatile reagent most commonly used in salves and as a stabilizer for particularly volatile alchemical reactions.
Power Component
Doses 4 (2 gp); Spells cold descriptor
Effect +1 caster level for the purpose of the effect

Yeah, Urea is one of the more powerful reagents. Most of them just boost damage by one point. If you have access to a decent cold spell at 1st level then it's very nice.

Yeah, snowball is a great spell. Actually it's pretty OP at high levels, since it ignores SR and there's no save. Though at first level, actually hitting touch AC can be hard unless your wizard is built for it.

In the games I run I actually make snowball a second level spell. It is still worth casting at second level.

FYI guys expect my posts to slowed down a bit soon.

Here's what's going on.

Right now we have a staffing shortage at my workplace, and I have been pulling extra shifts. This has left me pretty tired and worn out. I also expect to be training some new hires soon (though I'm not sure when), and since I do most of my posts from work it is unlikely I will be able to post much on those days, but we don't have a schedule for that person yet, so I don't yet know which days I am doing that, and I may not end up knowing until I arrive for my shift. So since I may not have any warning I'm letting you guys know now. The training will probably be spread over three days.

After that I am leaving for a much needed Vacation on September 30th. I expect to have internet access, so I should be able to post in that period, though it may be a bit irregular.

Sorry for any problems this might cause, and if I don't respond in a reasonable time bot me as needed. Things should be back to normal for me in mid-October.

I am about to leave for a Boy Scout Camp, where I will stay until late on Sunday (1 Oct). The area is notoriously bad for cell signals. I will be helping run a training event for other adults. Between the two, I will be surprised if I can update anything before then.

Then I go back to the same camp in the evening of Friday (6 Oct) for my troop's monthly campout, and will return earlier on 8 Oct.

Then I go back for the second half of the training program on the evening of 12 Oct and will stay until late on 15 Oct.

Then my wife and I will return to the same campground late on 20 Oct and stay until sometime on 22 Oct for an Order of the Arrow event.

Yeah. I do a lot with the Boy Scouts. I really wish even one of those weekends was at a different campground.

Sorry for that long delay but what can you do?!

Interviews are up (for those in Absolom), these are not easy questions and I think will be fun to answer. They will enable each of you to really flesh out the background of your PC. Obviously, each of you will be selected but I felt the opportunity to RP was worth starting where I did in the process.

Also, it appears that Tempus Proavus XLII has never posted, I believe that brings our number of PCs back down to 7. I'll keep it there.

Answering the interview questions is going to take me a while. I want have a large enough block of time in front of a computer until Monday night.

Should be fun though. I already have some fun ideas for answers.

Oh I know it will, lot of deep thought required but it will really help flesh out characters i think :-)

I really enjoyed that little questionnaire! Quietly arrogant characters are always such fun to write.

Question for the future: How do we feel about Arcanists and Pages of Spell Knowledge? I'm pretty sure that they let Arcanists have an extra spell prepared for the day, but there does seem to be a little contention on that point.

If we're very lucky the PDT will answer this FAQ thread. Probably wouldn't hurt to mark it as an FAQ candidate but I wouldn't hold your breath. Probably get answered right after they decide what to do about bardic masterpieces.

Per level or one extra spell at variable level per day?

My assumption was a Page would add the spell in said Page to your list of spells prepared for the day, much like they add to a Sorcerer's spells known. Ayse, for instance, would probably try to pick up a Page for a spell or two he's almost always going to want to have available; Mage Armor, for instance.

Finally got Spectrum's familiar statted out. Here's the alias. The full stats are in Spectrum's sheet.

Glimmer is an Ioun Wyrd with the School Familiar and Protector archetypes, so basically she's going to behave like a particularly cool Ioun stone. She fires rays of frost and can give AC bonuses.

The only thing of note that I need the GM to be aware of is that Glimmer has Blindsense 30, which combined with Empathic Link gives Spectrum something of a "danger sense." Blindsense is basically the ultimate trump card vs stealth and invisibility, so if anyone is hiding within 30', Glimmer can alert Spectrum to that. Later, once Spectrum picks up Speak With Master, Glimmer will be able to provide more details than just general feelings.

Spectrum wrote:

Yes, just need to reinforce them with a solid object so that your movement does not close the holes and block off whatever tiny little projectiles or rays the familiar will utilize. Let's say a 5 gp investment. You probably have time to get that done in Absolom before you leave or you can just mark off the gold and consider it done as part of your build.

I was hoping you would say that. It leads into my idea for how Glimmer connects to Jatembe's Wayfinder.

Ioun Wyrds are described as some small stones orbiting a larger central stone, so I think Jatembe's Wayfinder is actually a small Armillary Sphere.

Glimmer fits into the armillary rings into her orbit stones and creates a whirling defense system that she can fire out of (acting as a Familiar Satchel that only works for Ioun Wyrds).

When not in combat, she hovers over Spectrum's hand like a Wizard's Orb or flattens her rings and sits on his chest like an inanimate amulet.

How does that sound to you?
