Even on the ground, the goblin still is a squirmy handful-- he manages to dodge E's mug.. but not Seraka's bardiche. The blow is weak by Seraka's standards, perhaps, but goblin bodies aren't very sturdy.

Gasping from the deep gash on its torso, the goblin can't manage to evade even Rokan's somewhat clumsy grapple-- he squirms feebly in Rokan's strong arms. Goblin now grappled and prone

When the chanter falls, there's a shout from the cathedral's big, new doors; Father Zantus peers out, his face sheened with sweat. He comes running, with Sabah, the Tien woman with the shaved head, close behind and looking around warily.

"Thank Desna you were here to clear the square-- and put out those fireworks!" the middle-aged priest pants. "Sabah got a number of the elderly inside the cathedral's walls when everything went to hell-- we could see you fighting, but we didn't dare open the doors while the little wretches were all over the place. Please, let me do something for your wounds--"

The priest holds up his jeweled butterfly symbol, and a wave of soothing energy washes out over the group.

Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8

Seeing that Sonya was the most grievously injured, he lays a hand on the lingering cut that's still oozing some blood, and casts another curative spell.

Sabah speaks as the priest works: "There are still goblins everywhere in the town, and I smell smoke-- undoubtedly some buildings have been set ablaze," she says grimly. "Zantus, you should return to the cathedral and keep the doors barred; I will bring wounded your way as I find them, and tell non-combatants make their way to you. At least this cathedral is fireproof..."

Zantus hesitates, then nods. "I hate to take shelter while people are hurt, but you're right-- better to have a defensible place and let you bring the injured to me. Travellers-- and Miss Valdemar-- can you do as Sabah is doing? Find more of the brutes, and send those who can't fight to me?"

Should anyone look over the body of the chanter, they notice there's a stoppered tin flask at the goblin's belt.

(If someone in the group has rope, you have time to bind the unconscious goblin, if that's your intent.)

Retrieving his bow, Rokan gives a single nod at Zantus's instructions. He quickly tests it to ensure it took no damage in the fall, then begins searching the goblin bodies.

Finding the flask, Rokan pulls it open and sniffs at it delicately.

You have found a potion of cure light wounds!

Nothing in the immediate vicinity seems dangerous-- the smell of smoke does fill the air, but some of that's from the now-extinguished fireworks cart; you can see no immediate spots of flame in the surrounding buildings. The sounds of battle and shouting drift from down further alleys, but nothing in sight this second.

"If you work north back towards the gate, I'll try south," Sabah suggests, stretching a bit.

If not, coup de grace

Zantus's magic washes over her, and Sonya breathes a sigh of relief as breathing becomes less painful, standing up from the goblin.
"I'll make sure anyone we come across will have a clear path to this cathedral." she replies to Zantus with determination. Her features soften, "Stay safe. We don't need any more deaths today."

(Sorry guys! Boards were down when I tried to post last night.)

Zantus offers a harried smile to Sonya and to E at their words. "Desna will protect, I am sure of it. I'll be safe enough-- it's you outside I worry about. May all kindly gods watch you."

The priest pulls back into the new stone walls. Sabah offers you a slight bow, then turns and starts sprinting lightly southward through the streets, at a pace that suggests she might have given E a run for his money in the sprint, earlier, had she chosen to compete.

The group, however, turns their attentions to the north-- Rokan slips ahead, his years hunting on the Storval Plateau training him for this sort of work. Compared to the Velashu Uplands, there's a wealth of cover in the town-- walls, wagons, barrels everywhere-- to use as he slips along the street, a stone's throw ahead of the others. He passes more than a few goblin corpses in the streets; the townsfolk have defended themselves.

He spies a few lone goblins as he scouts-- one goblin climbing out of the broken wooden window of a bakery, pockets and cheeks bulging with stolen bread-- another goblin throwing stones and screeching at a tethered, rearing horse. A single arrow snakes deftly from Rokan's bow towards the bread-thief, ending his small greedy life; the horse-tormentor runs at Rokan's approach.... down an alley that leads directly to a few of the town's militia. A short goblin scream follows.

These solo goblins provide no real challenge-- the little brutes are at their worst when in groups after all. A few townsfolk peer out, frightened, from second-story windows, not noticing Rokan's stealthy passage beneath, though they give nods to Sonya, Seraka, and E when they pass by some sixty feet later.

Rokan's ears pick up the sound of a dog snarling and barking from ahead, and a goblin's shrill voice rising in answer-- and a human's voice: "Help! Guards! Anybody!!"

Rokan dashes closer to see the following scene: a goblin that looks a little larger and better fed than most is sitting astride a fantastically ugly animal that looks to combine the worst aspects of a dog and a rat; the two creatures are facing off against a sleek hunting hound with a silver collar. Behind the hunting dog, you see a man you remember from earlier-- the fellow who'd taken such a shine to Sonya, earlier. He has a rapier drawn, but it doesn't look as if the blade has ever seen a great deal of use... or that he's too confident in its handling. Several other goblins hang back, fearful of the hunting hound.

However, even as Rokan arrives, the goblin astride the ugly dog-thing brings down a long horsechopper and manages to deal a deadly wound to the hound, who crumples with a canine whine! Alder Foxglove cries out wordlessly, and the goblins cheer and applaud their champion!

(Rokan, I'll give you a surprise round due to your stealth and the goblins' distraction; the other PCs will need to spend their first round catching up to you/getting on the map. Go ahead and take a surprise round action, then I'll roll a proper initiative.)

Herp derp. I even checked it, but immediately dismissed it as not having changed from the last one. My bad.

Rokan immediately begins chanting quietly, his eyes fixed on the ground under the goblins' feet-sies. For a moment nothing seems to happen, but his chanting intensifies until it is echoed far off in the night, then a rustling and rumbling grows right into the street at everyone's feet. Weeds, plants, and brambles of wild proportion explode from the ground, seeking to form a hard line just south of them ... trying to trap them while leaving the trapped nobleman free.

"Hey, you!" Rokan shouts at the cowering man as the plants grip at the goblins, "Come here and we will fight back to back!"

I can't place anything in the map while on my phone. I'd love to target Entangle so it's area stops just south of the goblins, catching all of them while leaving the rest of us free.

The DC is 15.

Rokan finishes his invocation of the forces of nature... and nature responds! The wildness of the plateau bursts forth in this tame little town, vegetation erupting through the cobblestones to choke the street.. and the goblins. The rider and his ugly mount manage to evade the grasp of the roots and vines, as does one of the smaller goblins, but the other two are caught... for now.

The uncaught one rushes forward, dogslicer flashing, jumping triumphantly onto the slain hound as if to claim credit for it.... and cuts at the shins of the fancy-dressed nobleman-- seeing an opportunity not just to get out of the vines, but perhaps to win glory while his fellow goblins are trapped! However, the swing is wild and doesn't connect. (Foxglove screams anyway.)

The two other small goblins struggle to wrench themselves free; when their attempts fail, they drop their dogslicers and draw wee bows.

One of Rokan's arrows strikes true; the other misses. With a snarl, the rider urges his unsightly mount clear of the vines, drawing a bow of his own as he rides and slipping the horsechopper away... or so Rokan thinks is likely, for the goblin rides behind one of the little stalls that had been set up here earlier and is momentarily lost to sight.

Rokan can just make out Aldern taking a divine stab at the goblin nearest him... and by divine we mean 'he'd better hope the gods intercede.' As the string touches Rokan's cheek, thunder rolls menacingly in the night, and lightning coalesces from cheek to bow, in the shape of an arrow, pointing at the nearest goblin. A static charge fills the air, then disperses with a crackle as Rokan releases it to streak through the night at its target.

Sonya shifts her way back through the now busily crowded corridor, taking a place behind E and Aldern. Though feeling a bit better after E's spell, she steadies herself against a crate - it has been a long day - and glares in the direction of the goblins, gathering psychic energy to send at the first goblin she sees.

I moved Rokan, and then I moved myself. My location used to be that empty space.
Standard: Ready action to Psychic Strike any goblins who move into range. I marked the most relevant squares with some purple circles.

"Crafty!" the samsaran remarks as the party reveals a choke-point against the goblins. Keeping an eye out in both directions, as to not get flanked, he readies to fight should the green menace get through.

If something comes from the north to threaten the paladin, E will 5' north-west and in-between. Whether or not he moves, he will attack the first thing that comes within threatening range, if something does.

Seraka turns and winks to Sonya, but quickly returns to her advance.

"Don't worry. I got this!"

She struts out past the choke point, cracking her neck in one fluid full rotation. She drags the tip of her bardiche along the ground, then snaps it up through the nearest goblin. Purple

Rokan avoids goblin blades nimbly... then calls up the spirits of storm, resulting in a brief but impactful miniature deluge on one of the goblins. He screeches in both pain and confusion.

E keeps his cup and blade at the ready, but Seraka runs forward, and hews the just-drenched goblin down with a strong slash!

The last two howl in goblinoid fury. If they had sense in their overlarge skulls, they'd turn and run while they could-- but goblins aren't known for their sense, and they swarm towards Seraka like homicidal toddlers. Seraka takes a swing at one of them, but the nimble creature dodges the blow easily...

...only to stagger momentarily as she grabs at her skull... then shakes off whatever strange pain that was in her head without apparent ill effect. The two goblins converge on Seraka with blades flashing and hacking-- but they're not very coordinated, too busy yelling at the top of their lungs. Seraka is able to turn their blows.

Aldern takes a breath now that he's no longer with immediate range of goblin knives. He stabs at the air with his blade with vicarious enthusiasm. "Yes! Good! Kill those little wretches for what they did to my poor Beauty there!"

As Seraka charges by, Rokan’s features set in a grim grin. He reverses direction and follows his fellow Shoanti, stepping alongside her left side and yelling out a wordless Shoanti war-cry as he slams his shin into the nearest goblin’s big, round head.

Rokan steps in and delivers a roundhouse shin-to-the-skull that drops a goblin like a felled tree. E scrambles to join the fray and stabs at the last goblin... and strikes!! She stands, woozily...

...only to fall with a pained groan and another head-clutch, twitching feebly on the ground. Aldern lets out a cheer, and then dashes forward to the body of his fallen dog, kneeling beside her and touching gingerly at the blood matting the fur. He looks up despairingly. "Can you possibly save her?"

Unfortunately, even a glance would show the dog is well past aid, the horsechopper having all but caved in the dog's ribcage.

End combat, more post coming

A quick inspection of the little goblins reveal similar belongs as what was seen on the first few-- rusty dogslicers, "armor" made out of scraps of hide repurposed from larger creatures, small weapons that would snap in your hands. The biggest one, the rider, has a small flask on his person.

Spellcraft/Per DC 18:
(Potion of cure moderate wounds)

As the little group takes stock of the situation, the sound of running feet-- too heavy to be goblins are-- is heard. A group of armed and armored townsfolk burst into the square, properly organized, with Sheriff Belor Hemlock at their head. His head snaps left and right scanning for goblins, and he sees the bodies at your collective feet and gives you a an acknowledging nod... before double-taking slightly at the sight of Seraka and Rokan alike.

Quickly recovering, the sheriff barks out orders to the militia behind him. "Square is clear! Gaven, take half the squad and sweep the streets pushing north-- drive any goblins you find left off the cliff if you can't corner them. They'll run like rats now that Sandpoint's hitting back. The rest of you, with me, I want to check the gate and figure out how the little bastards got IN!"

He and six other militia start to cross the open space, headed for the gate. Belor doesn't break stride as he calls, "Thanks for the help so far! We're mopping the vermin up-- fall in with us if you're not hurt!"

Aldern looks up mournfully from his slain dog, before getting to his feet; he seems willing to accede to the sheriff's order, perhaps believing there's safety in numbers.

Rokan shakes his head down at the lifeless dog. ”He was dead before our fight was done.” He watches the dead animal with an inscrutable expression for a few more moments before nodding at the nobleman and turning towards the recovered vial.

”A stronger healing drink,” he grunts, tossing it to Sonya. His small smile appears, "Though it probably tastes like the back-end of a mutt."

Belor gets a hard look when he appears. Rokan looks like he has words to say, but limits his response to a few statements in their shared native tongue.

(Shoanti) “We will speak after this, Belor. The Shrikirri call on you,” he says as he jogs to keep up with the sheriff’s goblin-hunting posse, reclaiming what arrows he can as he goes.

I just realized I'm not tracking arrow usage. Will you want me doing that in this game? I mean, magical and special arrows, definitely, but mundane stuff?

Sonya catches the vial, swirling it a bit in front of her before pocketing it. "I'll be sure to tell you if I have to try it - for now I've still got some fight left in me."
She runs her hand through her hair and sighs a breath of relief when the sheriff and his men arrive in the square. The fighting wasn't over, but at least the initial chaos seemed to be dying down. She matches stride with Belor and the others, and falls into the same habits she formed on her own patrols in Magnimar - it was time for a status report.
"Some of the townsfolk are taking shelter in the Church - Father Zantus is there, caring for wounded." She points a thumb back towards the way they came. "The path should be clear enough for anyone who needs a place to hide."
Glancing over her shoulder, she also sees Aldern following along. She hides a grimace - there wasn't much place for him in a fight, as he had proven only moments ago. She turns slightly, "Aldern, why don't you go back and check on Father Zantus and the others, we can help Belor clear out the rest of the town."

E rubs the end of his rapier against the torso of the foe who dropped before him, cleaning the blade of illiterate blood.

"This is a first for me. I mean, I've been in a few brawls in my time, but this thing is usually just meant as a fancy toothpick! I guess I shall have to study it's use more!"

"The little buggers sang that they hid in the carts." the samsaran offers to Belor as he questions the method of their entry. "Perhaps someone at the gate isn't doing their job well."

He turns to walk backwards while facing the party with a grin, "From visitors to party goers to street cleaners. An exciting day, don't you say?!"

Aldern looks from Sonya back to the direction of the cathedral, then back to Sonya, then back to the cathedral.... it seems he's halfway reluctant to leave Sonya, and halfway reluctant to go back through the streets on his own.

"...stay safe," he settles for, at last. "You were-- magnificent, striking down the goblins, Miss Valdemar. I wish..."

He looks briefly at Rokan and the others, and then down at his, still unbloodied blade. "--I wish I could stand side-by-side with you, and actually be of service. Perhaps-- someday.

"I'll be in town several days yet-- I owe you all a reward, for saving my life. I'm staying at the Rusty Dragon-- please look me up."

With a last nervous swallow, Aldern turns and starts making his way back toward the Cathedral, leading with his blade just in case a goblin pounces him...

Belor doesn't quite break stride at Rokan's words, but he looks somewhere between startled and dismayed. "...later, as you say," he mutters in the Taldane tongue. When he hears E's words, he looks sharply over. "In a wagon, you say? That'll be worth investigating. And if someone isn't doing their job at the gate, I'm going to find out."

He strides on, not-quite running, a glower on his face.

(I'll move us forward more later tonight, still time for Seraka to throw in some reaction)
