Javi’s eyebrows rise as he considers the rangy man’s stick, which he points at. ”I think I’ve heard of those. Alkenstar, right? Supposedly not magical, but does it really throw lead balls fast enough to punch through armor? Sounds a lot like magic to me.”

He hikes a thumb generically behind him, ”Say, here’s a plan. Why don’t you ditch your Chelaxian friend here and come show me how it works. I have the perfect target in mind. Come with us and you can split my part of the loot with me.” He shrugs, ”It beats dying …. or worse, having to hear old Yammery there yammer on incessantly.”

Diplomacy, on the rangy boom-stick wielder: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21; +2 for offering him a cut of Javi’s loot?

Lyrian, I know the map isn't often convenient for you, but if you get a chance, look at it and make sure you're okay with your position on the map. That goes for everyone really, but Lyrian's the only one in the elevator-shaft-room who I'm not currently running. ;)

Back me up two spaces to the west, please. Lyrian's trying to remain out of the line of sight. I don't want them to know how many we are and Javi doesn't need my help just now.

Heldar wrote:
Heldar immediately dislikes the man's arrogant tone, but maintains his calm - "It is a bad thing to start off with such doubts, but still I do have an offer which I believe sounds fair - since we have been the ones to discover, first enter, and explore the site, we will allow you to peruse at your own discretion after we are done" - the Oracle offers - "Instead of simply claiming it for ourselves indefinitely, and barring others from entering - how does it sound?" - he smiles.

The Chelish man's eyebrows arch, climbing up nearly to his hairline, as he stares at Heldar. Then he laughs, abruptly, the sound echoing in the veinstone halls.

"Oh, very generous. You will kindly permit us to take your leavings, like stray dogs after scraps. Except: you cannot bar entry, as we are already in here... and I seem to recall you accomplished entry by stealing our key from us."

"Furthermore: if we were indeed giving any weight-of-law to inventionem priorem, my claim dates back fifty years, when my grandfather first researched the location of this tomb, the method of its nature and entry, and gave his life in exploration of its halls. So, in point the first: By blood I would have prior claim."

The man's tone is a lazy drawl, like he's enjoying the discourse on legal rights. "In point the second: sovereignty. My expedition has writ of permission from the Ruby Prince to explore this tomb, as a negotiated favor from the throne of Osirion to Her Imperial Majesty Abrogail of House Thrune. The law of the land has been taken into account by my sponsors. I doubt it has by yours.

"In point the third: both inventionem priorem and lex loci support my claim, and not yours, which brings us to the crux of the matter: that this is not a courtroom. This is a tomb, where the only rule that applies is ius in bello."

Any humor drains out of his face as he looks at Heldar. "Here are my terms: you, and your companions-- the gnoll and his dog, the copper-skinned fellow, the woman-- all of you will leave. I will be extraordinarily gracious and permit you to take whatever you are already carrying upon your persons-- which I am sure includes many prize gems of the tombs' goods so far. You will leave, now, yielding all further claim to us, and we will consider it a draw between us, and we won't have the need for further... unpleasantness."

Julistar smiles thinly. "Well? Are my terms agreeable, or do you find them as ludicrous as I found yours?"

As for Javi's bid to undercut the stick-wielder... the man merely favors Javi with a sharp, sardonic smile, a look of Really? You're really trying this while I'm standing right next to my boss?

Out of sight, Rosalia frowns at being referenced, and tightens her grip on her sword. Shaggar rests a heavy paw on Hatyah's head, stopping her from growling.

HP 54/54 NL 1 :: AC 23 T 18 FF 16 :: CMD 23 :: F +8 R +12 W +4 :: Initiative +6 Perception +12 (-4 sight-based/+2 traps) :: Google Doc

Javi shrugs at the stick-wielder, giving an equally non-verbal ’your choice’. He begins picking at the tomb-dust that’s accumulated under his fingernails, shaking his head with a laugh at the Chalaxian’s counter-offer as he continues his friendly conversation with the stick-wielder.

”So what does Yammery McCheliax the Third there value your talents at, anyway? He paying you a flat fee or you getting a cut of the finds? And how much? I can guess how he values your skills against his own.”

Any humor drains out of his face as he looks...

"Stole your key? You perhaps speak of the mask pried from a man dying with hunger, and paid meager when one thinks about its magnificent worth? That is how its owner came by it. Still, if we are talking about theft, I seem to recall this halfling we met, having been hired by a certain Chelaxian gentleman to rob a few select items from the Exhibitionary? Sounds familiar?" - the Oracle puts a finger to his lips, mimicking a struggle to remember something - "And then trying to blame it all on us, or more accurately on my dear gnoll friend? With all this under consideration, I find you severely ill-positioned to accuse us of thievery"

Assuming a similar, boring, discoursing tone, he continues - "Your inventionem priorem claim is void, since I could make the same one. In fact, we could all do it. They are but words. Who was your grandfather by the way? Maybe we have heard of him in our investigation of this very place? So, your point first is void"

Raising an eyebrow at the reference to the writ, Heldar smiles again - "Very well then, if you can direct us to a nearby appointed notary for the Eminence of Osirian, I will gladly accompany the legal proceedings necessary to guarantee the document is indeed legitimate. Otherwise, we can carry out such diligence in foro once we return to Sothis" - and offers a polite bow.

As the man continues, Heldar's face drops the smile also - "Indeed ius in bello if you so wish it, but I believe you are incautious in invoking it" - until it is dead serious - "We have set foot here first, and have braved most of the dangers found inside. You have produced no solid reason for us to allow you passage or ingress, and believe me Sir - we can bar you entry, if that is the path you chose to take" - the oracle speaks calmly - "In fact, your offer is not ludicrous, hence ours is the same - Chelaxians, half-orcs, walking sticks, and others that may be in your company may leave until we are done with our exploration, thus avoiding said unpleasantness, which thus far has only stemmed from your posture, but which can turn much worse"

Heldar's eyes glint momentarily - "You are far away from the poor, downtrodden ones who can be pushed around by mere words, and believe me, neither by strong spell or sword - if a confrontation breaks, there will most likely be death on both ends, but one thing I can assure you after the ordeals we have been through - yours will not be the winning side, and thus please consider our offer, which is indeed made genuinely"

Diplomacy (again): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24

For the record, Heldar detests the man's attitude, but he is being honest.

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

To Javi, the stick-wielder smiles thinly. "He pays me in coin I doubt you have access to," he says, in between the verbosity of Heldar and Julistar.

At Heldar's further words, Julistar looks more and more irritated, as if by his expression he is planning out his oh-so-legal rejoinder when he can.

When Heldar finishes, he offers a frosty smile. "The mask was, in its very first place, stolen from my ancestor, Imivus, by some idiot with his expedition who fled his duty and left my grandfather to die, but-- oh, why in Hell's halls am I bothering? Suffice to say: the points of law are entirely lost on you, but I shall be happy to let the issue be tried in the courts of Hell. Kill them."

Okay, this is going into initiative. No surprise round: you know they're there, they know you there, I assume everyone was essentially tense and waiting for things to erupt into hostilities. Which they have. However, I have.... five characters to resolve actions for before Javi, Lyrian, or Heldar gets to go, and I'm too sleepy right now do tactics and actions for five different characters, so, I'll post later today with the actual 'first actions'.

Heldar, you rolled well and all, but your arguments are something that a high-ranking priest of Asmodeus are probably just never going to agree to, his ego wouldn't allow it. :P Aside from that he's been planning to kill you all for a while anyway.

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

Round 1, FIGHT!

"Let's do this, then," Shaggar growls. He snarls words of a spell, and a layer of bark and thorns seems to materialize over his skin. He yips to Hatyah, and the two of them race around the corner.

Yet, something odd happens when Shaggar gets about five feet in front of Javi. A section of the wall nearby flares a dull crimson, in the shape of the fiendish star of Asmodeus; an eerie silence washes out from that spot, over both Javi and Heldar. Shaggar blinks as he realizes something has happened, and tries to yell to Hatyah to stop, but his mouth makes no sounds, and Hatyah continues to run ahead, charging right up to the man with the stick.

Rosalia, oblivious to the fact that silence now prevails in the hall itself, casts a spell, wreathing her hand and sword in crackling sparks. She blinks when she steps out into the hall, her expression turning to dismay as she realizes she can hear nothing.

A few seconds later, the hulking half-orc you guys had seen at the auction bursts out from behind the door, moving with supernatural speed. Startled, Hatyah still takes a bite at him as he rumbles past like a loaded wagon. Shaggar does as well, but his axe also misses.

Hatyah attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Miss
Shaggar attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23 Miss

Coming to stop before the slight woman from Brevoy, the half-orc swings a gleaming falcata...

Hrokon vs Rosalia: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 ouch
Confirm?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 No
Damage to Rosalia: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

He opens a wide gash on Rosalia's arm. Gritting her teeth in the supernatural silence, Rosalia lifts her electrified blade with full intent to respond when she can.

Lyrian! You're up. You can see the battle, or at least, a big half-orc with a tower shield and a falcata who is slashing at Rosalia; you can also tell that it is magically silent in the area around the red sigil on the wall, though you can still hear your own breathing and so forth from where you are currently standing. What would you like to do?

GM Only:
Shaggar.... casts Barkskin, single moved forward
Hatyah..... double-moved forward
Xaven [delays]
Hrokon [delays]
Rosalia casts shocking grasp, moved forward
Lonicera casts haste
Hrokon comes out of delay, moves, provokes from Hatyah and Shaggar, attacks Rosalia

...(Xaven still on delay)
...Julistar
...Scepter
...Javi
...Heldar

The red outline on the map indicates an area of magical silence.

Lyrian understands that some sort of rune of silence has been activated and he hangs back, casting a spell where he can speak.

Cast haste on the entire party, including himself.

So you're saying I don't have my lucky howitzer, either?

Well then I shall follow Javi's reccomendation and cast heroism on myself.

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

Alas, no lucky howitzer. T__T

Lyrian pumps himself up! Magical energy courses through his veins, making him stronger, faster, tougher, luckier.

The Asmodean priest steps up slightly, then chants a spell and a command, pointing towards you all.

Casting defensively: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 That is one very solidly cast spell.

Somebody's will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Meanwhile, the rangy fellow with the stick lifts it again, sighting down the long stock at... Rosalia, it seems. There is a split-second to note the unpleasant leering smile on the man's face before a burst of red-orange fire blossoms from the end of the stick.

Vs Rosalia's touch AC, -4 for cover: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 11 - 4 = 26

A beam of hot fire, no thicker than a man's thumb, screams down the hall and past Shaggar to hit the Brevoy swordswoman.

Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 5) = 19 Ouch.

Javi and Heldar, you're up!

Rosalia has taken 35 damage so far. Assuming life link is up, Heldar takes 5 now, and she goes to being down 30.

(For those who can see Shaggar, aka, Javi and Heldar) Perception or Sense Motive DC 20:
You saw Shaggar sort of flinch back at whatever spell the Asmodean cast and there seems to be a glazed look in his eye.

HP 54/54 NL 1 :: AC 23 T 18 FF 16 :: CMD 23 :: F +8 R +12 W +4 :: Initiative +6 Perception +12 (-4 sight-based/+2 traps) :: Google Doc

Sense Motive, DC 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Did Javi recognize the spell cast on Shaggar?
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8; guessing that's a 'no'.

"He's attacking Shaggar's mind!" Javi barks out in Osiriani as he steps in front of Heldar, pulling a bag of goo from the folds of his rags, "No idea what spell, though!"

Then he hurls the bag at the half-orc's stumpy legs.

He switches to Taldan, "Rosalia! They're worried what you're capable of doing to the half-orc! You were looking for something to kill...' he nods at the half-orc with a wicked grin.

5' step. Retrieve tanglefoot bag. Throw at half-orc (ranged touch with a -4 penalty for throwing into melee).
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 12 - 4 = 23
Success=Half-orc is Entangled for 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 rounds. Then he needs to make a Reflex DC15 or be glued in place.

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

Nope, not with the roll, but also because you need to be able to see AND hear the spell being cast, and.. you can't hear right now. ;)

Javi opens his mouth to shout a warning about Shaggar's spell, but finds that his voice makes no noise.

EDIT: When Javi realizes no sound, can he (as a free action) point to Shaggar and then point to his own head emphatically?

I don't think Channeling Energy requires any verbal component, so:

Without hesitation, and seeing the wounds on Rosalia, Heldar focuses on the divine power that suffuses him, releasing a wave of healing energy to heal his companions, mainly Rosalia and himself.

Selective Channel, excluding all hostiles: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 1) = 11

Geeeeez.... Rosalia heals 5(life link)+11(channel)=16, Heldar takes 5, then heals 11(channel)+8(fey foundling)=19. I don't think anyone else is wounded?

The Oracle then moves back, whispering all the time, until he can hear himself - when he does, he stands in that position, and speaks to his companions - "My visibility from here is limited, we need to push towards their casters NOW"

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

Sorry, Javi, I missed your edit, but yes, you can make that gesture as a free. It is duly noted that it was made. ;)

Heldar, you can move to the spot shown and be able to be heard, but only by Lyrian. Sound does not pass into a zone of silence.

Heldar calls on divine, healing energy, then moves to a point at which he and Lyrian can talk, at least. What he says to Lyrian is good advice, and interrupted a second later by someone appearing in front of him, out of seeming thin air, with a slightly manic grin.

Dagger vs Heldar's flat-footed AC: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 2 = 22

The halfling's mouth moves, but whatever he's saying goes unheard. The bite of his blade speaks for him-- he finds a chink in Heldar's breastplate and bites deep.

Damage to Heldar: 1d3 + 4d6 ⇒ (1) + (3, 6, 3, 2) = 15

Xaven tilts his head, 'says' something more, then shrugs as if to say 'oh well'.

end round one, start round two

Rosalia sense motive off Javi's clue: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Rosalia throws a quick glance at Javi, slightly confused, her brows knit. Before she can further respond.... Shaggar steps forward and swings his great axe at her, ferociously.

Shaggar Attack 1 vs Rosalia: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 13 + 2 = 28
Shaggar Attack 2 vs Rosalia: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15
Shaggar Bites vs Rosalia: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22

Rosalia opens her mouth to scream soundlessly as Shaggar's axe slashes deep into one shoulder, and then the gnoll actually bites her, looking as savage as the clan he has long since given up.

Damage to Rosalia: 1d12 + 8 + 2 + 1d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 + (1) + 2 + 2 = 24

That done, Shaggar blinks, and stares down at his bloody axe, and at Rosalia. Javi and Rosalia can see his face contort in a bestial growl (Rosalia's blood bright red on his fur), and he wheels in place to release what would probably be a bone-curdling howl at the Asmoedean priest-- if it could be heard.

Rosalia current HP: 9/52

Oblivious to the raw fury that Shaggar is currently experiencing, Hatyah nevertheless does what Shaggar would probably order her to do: she goes for the priest's throat.

Bite vs Julistar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Trip attempt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

To Shaggar's gratification, Hatyah does take a bite out of the Asmodean, but fails to trip him.

Badly injured, Rosalia looks like she's considering running, but her blade still sparks with electricity from earlier. With a silent snarl, she tries to attack the half-orc.

Rosalia vs Hrokon: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 11 + 1 + 3 = 29

Her blade strikes true: a jolt of electricity arcs through the big orc's body as Rosalia's spell discharges.

Damage to Hrokon: 1d6 + 6 + 1 + 5d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 + (1, 5, 1, 4, 1) = 20

Then, Rosalia tries to withdraw, getting away from both Shaggar and the big half-orc before he can hit her again.

Rosalia acrobatics: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

She is quite surprised to see there is a halfling in their midst who wasn't here in the last time she saw, and staggers a few feet away to get around the corner, clutching her bloody arm and burned body.

At the far end of the hall, behind the Asmodean and the fellow with the stick, a young Osiriani woman who looks a little familiar steps into view. She raises her hands, gestures, and words that none of you can hear get said. A second later, an explosion of golden particles covers Hatyah.

Hatyah Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

The big orc shrugs at noticing he is stuck in place. He looks at Javi a moment as if considering trying to strangle him from five feet away, then he turns and attacks at Shaggar, hunkering into a defensive fighting stance with his huge shield raised.

Vs Shaggar attack 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Vs Shaggar attack 2: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Vs Shaggar Hasted attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Confirm potential critical?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 no

Ouch re: those ones. Lyrian doesn't really have line of sight to Shaggar though, so he can't see that Shaggar just smacked Rosalia.

With the hyena wreathed in golden dust, Julistar takes a leisurely step backwards and begins casting another spell.

The man with the stick squints down the length of it once more, clearly trying to decide whether to keep with his original target, or shoot at someone closer, since Rosalia has gotten herself out of his line of fire. He shrugs, then points his stick at the gold-dusted Hatyah and blasts with another bloom of fire.

Ranged touch vs Hatyah: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Damage to Hatyah: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 2) = 14

Hatyah yelps (not that anyone can hear her) as she gets burned.

Javi and Heldar, you're up!

Ok, so Heldar will take +15damage (for a total of 30), and Shaggar, Rosalia and Hatyah will heal 5 each. Dang halfling hit me by 1 ;)

Heldar's eyes go wide as the halfling pops out of thin air to attack him - "You are a fool to have come into our midst" - he speaks, his eyes flaring.

In a blink of an eye, the Oracle focuses his willpower into a sudden burst of healing energy that encompasses all his allies, but not the halfling attacking him - "You have but one chance to surrender, else this will be your tomb" - he adds, his body transforming into pure light.

As the hallway clears out behind him, Javi has a moment of uncertainty. The half-orc was dangerous, but so were those three casters, and poor Hatyah was all alone.

Welp, he thinks as he darts between the half-orc and Shaggar and rushes the three casters, Lyrian did say to focus the guys without armor. Plus, poor, loyal Hatyah is up there all alone!

Heldar, two things:

There is a wall between you and Rosalia, blocking channel. She therefore doesn't get the channel, putting her HP at 14/52, since she does get the life link.

Second thing, which I didn't think about until now: it's up to you, but your Shield Other that you cast on Shaggar in the fight with the Pharaoh of Numbers would still be up (it would last 7 hours, unless you chose to dismiss it). If you do want it up, that would mean that Shaggar is now at full HP, but that you had taken an extra 10 points of damage. Let me know if you would have dismissed it on your way down the elevator shaft; if not, I'll assume it's still up, and damage will get assigned accordingly.

Attack of opportunity on Javi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 miss

Javi scampers over to say hi to new faces! With his sword!

Meanwhile, Heldar turns into a beacon of pretty glowing light. The halfling who just stabbed him looks bemused at the change in his person and takes a step backward. He draws and chucks a rock at the floor between Heldar and Lyrian.

Xaven attack roll, not a nat 1?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 Not a nat 1

The rock hits the ledge with an ear-splitting cracking noise, though only Lyrian and Heldar can hear it.

Fortitude, Lyrian: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Fortutude, Heldar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Fortunately, neither of them are deafened by the thunderstone...

Shaggar gives Javi a nod and a (silent) bark of encouragement at Javi going to go attack the Asmodean. Meanwhile, he tries to rain down blows on the big half-orc.

Shaggar full attack 1, vs AC 26: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 13 + 2 = 30

Damage, one hit: 1d12 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17

One blow powers past the shield. The half-orc's noise of pain is also silent.

Hatyah doesn't know what is going on in the world. She attempts to use scent to locate her enemies. Perception, scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Javi-smell... and two others! Hatyah surges forward, trying to latch her teeth around enemy flesh. 1 = Scepter, 2 = Julistar: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Attack Julistar: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 2 = 20 miss
Hatyah will save vs Glitterdust: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 fail

Rosalia takes advantage of the pocket of non-silence she is in to call up another spell. Again, lightning sparks along the length of her sword. She turns around, eyes burning, and moves towards the halfling thief with lethal intent.

Rosalia vs Xaven: 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 3 + 1 = 20 miss

The thief offers Rosalia a saucy grin as he just manages to duck her sword...

Down the hall, the young woman arches her brows at Javi's brave charge, and shouts and gestures, pointing towards him and Hatyah.

Spellcraft DC 18, Javi only:
She's casting confusion on you. :P

Javi will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Hatyah will save: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 4 = 10

Javi, the world just became a confusing place. Do you have a re-roll and wish to use it?

The big half-orc considers his injuries, considers the furious gnoll before him, and starts trying to cut his way out of the goop Javi threw at him.

Per tanglefoot bag rules, damage with a slashing weapon: Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Partially freed from the gunk, the half-orc glances around the battlefield, then takes a small step backwards, circling around Shaggar.

Twang! goes Lyrian's bow. The halfling sprouts a sparking arrow in his gut, and cries out in pain, or would if he could make noise.

Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Continuing the strange pantomime, Rosalia gasps as she's hit, but no noise is actually heard.

The man with the stick considers the battlefield, eyes darting down the hall, then considers the close proximity of Javi and the hyena. He takes a step backwards and around the statue from Javi and Hatyah, mutters some words and wiggles his fingers, and potentially disappears from sight.

I went through resources in the thread yesterday, and, as of my last count, you had used 6 channels today, so that quick channel there puts you at 8. I figure draining a heal-focused life oracle of his channels is a little feather in my GM cap. ;) Now if only you didn't have all those cures left! Nice work dispelling the silence, though.

Xaven grunts pragmatically at realizing silence has dropped. " 'Scuse me," he says, and tries to vault past Rosalia and out of archery range.

Rosalia starts cursing in frustration, but Heldar is able to keep the gunk out of his eyes. The woman at the end of the hall begins a soft singing in Osiriani...

The half-orc finally has an expression on his face-- a smirk, despite his grievous injuries. "Always do like it when you sing, little bird," he rumbles, and swings hard for Shaggar, abandoning his defensive posture. "Feeling a bit cut up here, boss," he says over his shoulder.
