Awesome, so what are we doing about a fiddle and some scrimshaw bone? :p Just as the first pointers anyway, suppose we need to get a little coordinated in our efforts eh?

"Alright fellows, our time here can be a bot more comfortable and less ardous if we all start fitting in a bit, seems there's a few members of crew kicking about that could do with the odd bit of comfort, and I reckon we are an enterprising enough bunch to come up with some solutions for them... so has anyone been tracking down a fiddle, and anyone come across any decent bones?"

Nachni got the fiddle already, so that's sorted.

Nope - the fiddle hasn't been handed over yet.

Obisyth listens to Cedrick. True, we seem to have a number of the crew who are less than thrilled with their lot in life. Rosie wants her fiddle, and Conch likes Rosie. We could kill two two pirates with one stone by getting the fiddle to Conch at the right time.

Also, Barefoot seems to like Tibbs and Sandra seems to have no love for Plugg and his crew.

What else do we know? I believe that Jack would love a nice piece of bone if we can get some for carving while Ratline has information about Hungry, or at least is really scared of Hungry for some reason. Which finally brings us to Hungry, he seems to hate, and fear, Plugg. Most likely because of Plugg's brutality. I will try to get him a fish a day if someone can sneak them down to Hungry. Which reminds me, seems Barefoot really does not like the cook's spice, and I can understand why. I am sure we can get her a fish if someone has the ability to steam it. Deader, could you get it steamed without Kroop adding any of that stuff he calls spice to it?

Deader brings up the stew pots freshly scrubbed and wearing a new shirt and breeches, dancing a slight two step that threatens to spill the slop. His grin threatens to split his face and happily, he is singing.

"Raise the sails my children
sailing high over seven purple seas
Severing ties between moral intentions
'Cause Love is the newest infectious disease

Write your name on the letter
cast the message back to the deep
I cannot waste your faint fading face
so tell your queen the enemy is me"

"No luck on finding any bone, I looked," Joneth says simply, at the same time disposing of his rum ration. He nods in agreement when there is mention of Rosie's fiddle being used to bring the halfling and Conch together, before continuing when the matter of changing the menu is brought up. "The cook has taken a liking to him," indicating 'Deader', "so perhaps he could help in that regard?"

Flute or fiddle are available can be bought from the Quartermaster at PRD cost.

Deader's song draws some initial sniggers from the audience from the difficultly reconciling his appearance with the quality of his words, but by the end of it he finds it reasonably well received. +2 on influencing anyone tomorrow

As he brings the food to Hungry, he finds the poor sap apprehensive at first... though Hungry warms to him slowly and Deader gets a feeling his offering was well received.

Obisyth doesn't find her approach to Ratline terribly helpful in softening his demeanor but she does elicit some of the details of why he fears Hungry. Soon after he came aboard Fipps dared him to taunt the creature with a fresh fish. Not knowing any better and scared of Scourge's crony himself he agreed - standing at a distance he thought safe from where Hungry was chained... but he was a bit close. When Hungry lunged at the fish he caught Ratline heavily on one side and sent him sprawling. Ratline felt the strength in the beast and has been afraid of Hungry since... it doesn't help that Hungry drools and licks his lips whenever Ratline comes past.

Cedrick points to a fish as he passes the galley on his run and reminds Deader that its to be cooked nice and plain...

With a nat 20, I think "plain" should be easy.

Deader nods and points to a fish that had been slow-cooked to preserve the juices on a rack too low for Kroop to reach without uncomfortable bending, hard enough to do while drunk on a rocking ship, let alone when carrying around a few stone worth of extra girth.

With a grin Deader tossed Bootlick a small bag with the bones he'd been talking about in it.

Minor Crab-beast

Deader manages to get the fish cooking away easy so that it should retain it's freshness and whittles up a storm of bone accompaniments inbetween Kroop's drunken suggestions and assistance.

Obisyth finds a safe enough spot for her new friends convalescence, and indeed the bird seems comfortable enough despite being inside.

Just need to see if Joneth ends up seasick or not :)

Despite the strong winds and the ship's violent motions, Joneth manages to not only stay on his feet on the moving and slippery deck, but fight the bout of seasickness that usually accompanies such sea weather. Nevertheless, not wanting to risk any broken bones, he climbs up the rigging carefully and starts working on the damaged sections slowly and with deliberation, foregoing speed and opting for diligence instead.

The day is long and relatively free of insults and denigration. The storm continues to build during the day and seems to be set to peak tomorrow. As the rain and swell makes eating above decks untenable, rum and pork offcuts are served in the main hold. Deader passes the captain's meal to his cabin girl Caulky and it must have been passable as all that returns is an empty plate.

The mood in the hold is subdued and wary, though Conch looks to be starting a game of dice in one corner.

"Best part of the day." Deader said with a grin, taking his ration. As he walked away he paused, some sort of strange memory flash hitting him in between his eyes.

This... isn't what rum's supposed to be like... Something's wrong with it...

Shrugging, he downed it anyway.

Still booze. Better ask Kroop about it tomorrow.

Back on deck he made his way to the prow to watch the waves and the storm, passing by crewmen Bootlick had mentioned.

Tossing Scrimshaw a small bag he said "Heard you might want these. Just let me know when you want more."

When he found Barefoot, he grinned and dropped a steamed fish wrapped up in a butcher's linen to preserve the juice. "Can't take special requests all the time, but I hear you about Kroop's spice. I'll see if I can get him to mellow it out a bit. Thank the fishy looking lady over there. It's her you owe, not me."

Deader finds the cabin girl a surly and reserved lass, no doubt adversely affected by being so close to the tyrant himself - so his entreaties falls on deaf ears.

He has much better luck with Barefoot - who accepts the fish in startled surprise, before a smile creasing her face as she unwraps the bounty. Savoring it slowly, she takes the time to at least cross gaze with Obisyth later in the evening give thanks. When Deader moves to turn in for the night he finds a lump of glossy black rock set on a leather thong lying in the midst of his bedding.

His final delivery to Hungry is quickly done, but he finds himself spotted by some of the crew - Cog and Badger. Their faces show a satisfaction that Deader is doing the right thing... and they don't cry out or make a scene of it. Hungry again accepts the food stoically, and presses a small rotted sack into Deader's hand - which proves to hold a baker's dozen in gold. Hungry must have found it in the muck of the bilges.

Jack opens up the bag of bones delivered by Deader and turns them over in his hands with a critical eye. He seems a bit skeptical, and the movement of the ship is a bit too violent for him to test the bones for their worth, but he replies "I'll give them a try... thanks Deader"

Cedrick's delivery of the fiddle to Rosie makes the dour and tough halfling smile wide with pleasure. Turning the instrument over in her hands and gently caressing it as though it were a lover she mouths a thanks to Cedrick with a hint of tears in her eyes. "I'll not ask how ye got it, I'll just be grateful. Have a seat Cedrick... let's see if work's blunted me touch" Putting bow to strings and beginning to play she coaxes a quiet and mournful lament out of the small framed fiddle. She plays beautifully and the crew chatter dies down to a low ebb as she sends out her song. You notice Conch in particular smitten as he watches and mouth slightly ajar.

Essentially Barefoot and Rosie are now onside - Jack has moved closer, but isn't there yet.
No need to continually narrate the visits to Hungry if you don't want - I'm happy to assume they continue in the background, and will bring up anything that affects that relationship directly in thread.

The night grows deeper into blackness and the storm continues to rage outside. As you drift to sleep you think... nay you hope that the boat is calming...

Day 8: In the heart of fury

You are woken by Scourge bursting into the sleeping hold with a lantern before light has come above screaming "Up ye blaggards, up. Get on deck sharpish and Mister Plugg'll order you along" he stalks up and down the rows of hammocks, pitching anyone out of their hammock if they haven't shown sign of wakefulness before disappearing back atop. In his wake the crew hurridly dress and follow as soon as they've rendered themselves decent.

The creaking, howling, pitching, rolling wooden coffin that you're riding through the blue in is struggling. She's straining against the force of wind, and shuddering side to side as waves impact her athwartship. The night has bought the storm time to summon all her force and hit you today with thunderous fury and anger.

Deader seems surprised at the coin Hungry offers, but takes it.

Upended onto the floor, Deader rolls with the ship and comes up with a hand at his belt, definitely not seeming like the happy go lucky corpse-man the crew had become used to, but only for a moment.

Looking down at the total lack of anything at his belt, in fact lacking a belt at all, Deader seemed confused for a moment and then he laughed and grabbed his new shirt and whistled himself a tune.

Up on deck a few moments later, still whistling, he looked straight up into the stormy sky and his whistling became a song, the tail end of whatever music was playing in his head.

"...throw themselves into the sea,
and in that sort of misery,
you wonder if they'd ever died before..."

Making the topdeck you instantly see the reason for urgency. The storm has broken some of the rigging strapping and various sails are partially unfurled. As the wind howls through the released sails are threatening to catch and without the rigging set that could tear the sails free... or worse snap masts or spars as the gusts whip through.

Captain Harrigan himself is manning the wheel, and Plugg's voice rises above the din to bellow orders and scream for compliance. Peals of thunder and the bright flash of lightning throw the darkened decks into relief, frozen moments of ordered scenes amidst the swirling maelstrom of storm. Plugg spies you and the rest of the crew come, and unlike his normal self does not even stop to generate a new phrase of color on the fly - but instead efficiently orders the crew as a whole. The staccato instructions wash over you and leave you to your initiative to help "Grab a line and brace, I need men aloft to bring those sails in order, haul the anchor, check the storm lashings" and continuing on.

The rest of the crew bursts from their relative torpor into a flurry of activity and surge across the Wormwood to help keep the ship together.

Pick what you'd like to do initially, and describe where you move on the topdeck to help. Checks required would be any of Prof (Sailor) or Str/Dex checks or anything else you think applicable.
If you want to go aloft, then a Climb check is needed and no taking ten due to the storm.

Obisyth finds it difficult to help on the anchor chains in any tangible way, and finds herself elbowed out of the way by Shivikah. It is not a gesture of aggression, just an efficacious way of getting the job done.

Cedrick moves aloft on the foremast and with practiced eye and hand gets to task securing scattered sails. He makes good progress and begins to get the lines under control.

At that moment one of the mainsail lines snaps, sending a block and tackles streaking across the deck like a battering ram. It catches Rosie solidly in the trunk and she stumbles backwards, stunned by the impact. Slick deck beneath her feet makes balance more a prayer than a certainty and the halfling stumbles backwards. Hearing the call of man overboard, Obisyth grabs a rope and tosses the end overboard hoping to get it to Rosie.

Perception(to see her): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 <-- Includes +3 for my familiar assuming I get this at this point.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 <-- to throw rope

Cedrick runs over to assist as well. Seeing Deader is set on diving in, Cedrick hastily grabs the far end of the rope and starts securing it to a railing, "I'll haul you back in Deader, lets not have the wee one drown, Obi if she gets a hold of that rope start hauling, Deader can join up with her and help get her tied off"

As Deader readies to tie himself off, Obisyth hurls a length of rope in after Rosie trying to land the free end near the halfling. He toss is ungainly but near enough, and Rosie grabs hold of the free end of the rope - wrapping it around a forearm to help with her grip.

As Obisyth lunges and grasps her end of the rope it goes taut and you begin to strain against the surf...

Swim: 1d20 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 3 = 22

...making some headway and at least holding a steady position in the water.

Rescue lines are present, and you could assist at hauling or continue to ready yourself and jump in.
Obisyth - Acrobatics is incorrect, throwing the rope is a ranged touch attack to land it near - so I just used your roll.

Was not sure, so I posted Acrobatics which I figured was close.

Obisyth begins to pull the little halfling back in, straining at the amazing weight of the wee woman.

Strangth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

A little help here if I can.

"Heave!" Deader calls, beginning the age old sailor's cadence as he adds his weight to the line.

You need to make a strength check and beat a 10 I think Deader.

Cedrick also jumps on the line to help

The struggle to haul Rosie back aboard is long and arduous - with the two feasible positions at the rope taken by Cedrick and Obisyth. As the storm is still raging, once it is seen that the party is attending to the rescue - the rest of the crew keeps at work on securing the ship.

After tens of seconds that stretch into seemingly minutes in your mind, you manage to drag Rosie out of the sea and onto decks. She vomits up a brackish mixture of bile and seawater and her arm looks like a blood sausage where the rope was wrapped around it... but she's alive.

"Welcome back lass!" Cedrick jokes, then turns back to command "Where's the sawbones? We have injured!" he shouts loudly.

That in hand, Cedrick gets back to coordinating and organising the sails spars and anchors, modelling quite the picture of Taldane naval precision and command as he shouts instructions and grabs ahold of tasks. It is almost as though he has forgotten where he is and his training has taken over in the time of crisis.
