Want to make sure you saw my previous post. I posted it, and then made a big edit. Not sure if you read it after I posted as you did not reference it.

Minor Crab-beast

Obisyth - didn't see it the first time, but have now.
To get a mechanical benefit from the spell (as in to become size small) - you'd need to make a pretty drastic size alteration as in close to a couple of feet in height. I'm not sure if you're attempting to hide the effect of using the spell? - that's a disguise check at a hefty penalty for the size category change.

Apart from that, looks like all three PCs are still keen to fight. Might be worth a little conference between yourselves to figure out exactly who is being put forward...

"So its like this, I reckon we each need to be able to have an opportunity to show we have what it takes to pull our weight aboard this vessel, but I won't bear being chattel against a bet I don't have a hand in... so if you're bent on fighting that fellow then you do so on your own weight and worth. Nice of Mr Plugg to pull that sort of stunt though, wonder if he did it just to see how we side when it happens, but curious how he changes the rules like that. I'll fight his boy if no one else is set on it, but if one of you are then be assured I'll be the first to jump in boots first if the rules change again and you get outnumbered"

"Just remember, you want this fight then you do so without me as surety on your bet"

"This has turned into a debate," Joneth sighs, his words spoken in a matter-of-fact tone, no displeasure hidden behind them. "Neither am I eager to fight, nor am I particularly invested in the outcome. I simply sought to put an end to the indecisiveness. Since it seems you have more to lose than I, then by all means, Cedrick. Be my guest."

Truth be told, methinks Cedrick has the best chance out of the three to win really. :-)

Mechanically, Cedrick and I do slightly more damage unless you get a sneak attack in somehow. Joneth has higher AC (unless Cedrick is wearing armor). Cedrick should have a slightly better BAB.

Ok, skip the Alter Self. Figured since she is only about 5 feet tall, I could make some minor adjustments.

If one of you boys wants at it, be my guest. If necessary, I can heal you a little afterwards.

"Well Mr Plugg its like this you see, reckon the bag of gold is pretty welcome and I'll happily fight your boy here. Equally I have little to offer as surety, but no doubt you are pretty confident of a win so if you are right you get the satisfaction of seeing me get a comeuppance and that fine week in the bilge to reflect on it eh?"

Awaiting an answer he speaks to his fellows.

"Right, we know his boys like to fight a bit dirty, so I'm going to ask just this, while we limber up for the fight, see if you can sneak a fish or two each... they pull any dirty moves just find a way to get the fish thrown in front of Hungry to distract him a minute, might not work, but its the only thing I can think might work. We've all a hand on this so the winning purse is split between us, we stick tight yes?"

Cedrick then awaits the response from Plugg

Ok, hold on a minute.

I walk over the the side of the boat and see if I can spot any fish. If I can, I use my Wild Empathy to attempt to attract a big one and then Survival to catch one. Not sure if these are the correct skills, but seems like a logical progression.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Wild Empathy: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 + 1 = 5
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Pretty sure I see some fish, but I doubt I got the big one,. Might be enough for something though.

Minor Crab-beast

Obisyth - with respect to a real sailing ship, your actions don't make sense. You are a good 10-15ft up off the water for a start, secondly finding a fish isn't really going to let you try and wild empathy it... there is a question of how you draw the fish's attention?
Also, you are trying to improve the fish's attitude... so you can kill it? I don't see that as an appropriate use of the skill, as it is intended to be equivalent to Diplomacy. As in it improves the attitude of the animal only. Even if you make it friendly, it isn't reasonable to expect that the fish would willingly die for you.
Lastly, you have no hook or line or net to try and snare the fish. Plus using survival to actively fish is going to take a very long time compared to the length of the bout.
Just bringing some of it up for consideration in the future...

Now if you wanted to sneak into the galley and take a fish or other food from there - that's likely to be much easier.

Plugg waves Cedrick in as though he's just begging for the verbally profligate swab to stop yammering more than anything. Once Cedrick arrives to the cleared area he adds "Right lads, fists and wrestling are the order of the day. No blades and stop hitting when your other stops movin'... C'mon Hungry, bloody his mouth good so he might shut up fer a few moments at least" which draws a few scattered chuckles, some genuine and some nervous.

You are left to face off against the abomination that rises before you. Slabs of muscle lie under it's patchwork skin of scales and chitin, and the fists it makes bear some impressive callouses on their knuckles.

Initiative: Hungry: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9 Cedrick: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Cedrick is up, you stand 10ft in front of your opponent and the field is pretty clear - so we'll do without the map.

DM VoV:

Didn't think I would have time for all that, but it was worth a try. My view on the Wild Empathy is that I could calm the animal down making it much easier to catch. I am not a goodie two shoes druid, I believe in balance, but food is food. And fish are definitely food.
.
Tell me if this is too creative. Can I use a Summon Nature's Ally to summon a fish, or a few fish that I could offer to Hungry? It would only last for a minute, but would likely distract him. Then I will use Survival later to get some extra fish for Hungry to give to him downstairs. Once the fight starts, I will step back and cast the spell while everyone is concentrating on the fight, and then step forward to distract Hungry with the fish.

Damage 1d3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6

Minor Crab-beast

Cedrick's fist makes solid contact on Hungry's cheek, and the creature roars - spittle flying from it's mouth as it does so...
Fist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 for 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

You notice that Hungry favors his right hand and his stance is off... blimey, the beast can't see out his left eye... you could use this...
With a DC 10 Acrobatics or Bluff check (choose one to attempt only) you can avoid his blow (even this round)

Obisyth - use of Summon would be ok, but be wary. Any intervention could be viewed as cheating on your side and draw Plugg / Scourge's ire.

Concentrating on her plan, Obisyth taps Joneth on the shoulder and whispers:
Hide me for a few seconds. I think I can get a nice fish for us, er, a temporary fish.

When the crowd is fixated on the fistfight. I then convert my Shillelagh spell to Summon Nature's Ally and summon a nice looking fish. (Round 1). I then walk back with Joneth partially hiding me so that we are where Hungry can see us, but hopefully concealed from Plugg. I then point to the fish and to Hungry and smile while imitating eating the fish and rubbing my stomach.

Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Sleight of Hand(untrained): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

And with that, I have one of the worse sets of rolls in history.

Although he keeps his eyes on the fight at hand in an attempt to learn more about Hungry in case he has to fight him next, Joneth nevertheless moves to stand in front of Obisyth as asked. Still, his doubts as to the whole plan with fish being used as a distraction without anyone noticing are evident in a roll of his eyes and an accompanying sigh. "A temporary fish," he repeats muttering to himself.

Sense Motive 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Obisyth finds that while most of the crowds attention is focused inwards, she isn't completely successful in keeping her actions secret. The unhinged gaze of Syl lies upon her, somewhat quizzical at exactly what is expected to be achived through use of fish... but regarding you all the same.

So eyes have noticed Obisyth's conjuration... doesn't mean that you couldn't slip their gaze again, but dots could easily be connected.

Knowing that the fish will not last long, Obisyth steps to where Hungry can see her, but hopefully Plugg and the rest of his cronies cannot. She then tries to catch Hungry's eye as she points at him, then at the fish, then makes a fall down indication.

Then at the beginning of her Round 3, the fish will suddenly disappear.

Minor Crab-beast

Cedrick notices the paucity of sight that Hungry has on his left and notes it. His blow is ill-timed, but still catches enough flesh to make itself known on Hungry's hide. The creature howls as it lashes out with a haymaker, but Cedrick lithely uses the blind spot in the qlippoth-bastard's view to avoid the blow.

Hungry looks pleadingly to Plugg as it limps, as though begging for succor - but the first mate screams at Hungry "What the feck are you about, hit the bastard!"

Back to Cedrick - no need for Perception / Sense Motive; but will still need a successful Acrobatics at DC 10 to avoid Hungry's next swing.

Obisyth's attempt to slip vision does not go unnoticed and Syl keeps her beadies solidly on the tiefling... watching her every move...

Minor Crab-beast

Cedrick's third volley of attacks engenders the same effect as the first two. Hungry is left battered and bloodied, still in the fight physically... but emotionally less so. The qlippoth-bastard cowers from Cedrick, tears in eyes and mewling piteously. It's body language clearly changed from any thoughts of aggression to that of defense.

This is not seen kindly by Plugg who screams at Hungry "Get back in there and fecking fight" hand going to his waist and unlimbering the worn captain's daughter that is buckled there. Hungry shies from the yell and inches back towards Cedrick... though it's single sighted eye looks up at Cedrick - a desperate pleading within...

Does Cedrick continue to fight?

Obisyth finds that Syl's confusion has deepened slightly as the fish vanishes, but she retains her silent vigil over you.

Punch 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Add damage 1d3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7

Minor Crab-beast

Hungry adopts a pose of surrender and you get a flicker of appreciation at your measured leniency, before Hungry is introduced to the sweet blackness of unconsciousness. Plugg lunges out of the crowd to bludgeon the qlippoth-bastard repeatedly with his cat o' nine, thin lines of blood showing through then blossoming upon the tiefling's back. At the end the rags borne by the beast are turning crimson, but despite the damage it does still draw ragged breath.

When his initial rage is quenched he turns on Cedrick with a sneer, tossing him the clinking pouch from earlier. "Get out of my sight Bootlick..."

The applause and recognition of the crowd is measured and dull, any enthusiasm tempered by the brutality dispensed by Plugg unto Hungry's form. A look at the eyes and faces show that - apart from those that have already succumbed to Plugg and Scourge's sadistic rule - most of the rest of the crew thought Cedrick's actions appropriate.

Despite several near tumbles, she manages to avoid any major gaffs and finishes the day winded, but in good condition.

Mid-afternoon, Obisyth comes upon the injured bird. As she is waiting for her next message, Obisyth bends down and picks up the bird trying to determine how badly injured the bird is and whether it will be able to fly.

Realizing how much she misses her companion, Obisyth tries to help the bird and if necessary, casts CLW to heal the poor thing.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Slight Retcon: Before going to bed after the fight, I will cast CLW on Cedrick to heal him faster and eliminate any scarring/infection from his fight.

CLW - 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

After Bootlick points out the trail, Deader comes to a decision.

Influence, Hungry, after he's taken to the bilges.

Deader wanders below decks after the spectacle and goes into the kitchens. A while later he comes back out with scraps. Fish heads and guts. Unused meat cuttings. Things no man would ever want to eat.

Then he heads to the bilges.

Floating the pile of disgusting food on a plank, Deader shakes his head.

"You got one hell of a raw deal, pal. Here. It ain't great, but I'm guessing you ain't too picky."

He doesn't stick around to see if Hungry liked the offering. Nothing liked being stared at while they were busy being miserable.

Minor Crab-beast

Cedrick concerted and continuous efforts to buoy spirits are well received, and Cog asks for a retelling of a few of the darker tales as the evening goes on.

Deader finds Hungry limited to grunts and monosyllabic communication, but he does appreciate the offal brought for him to eat. Looking into his eyes you note that it is a simple creature, though wholly in sway to Plugg's mental and physical tyranny over him. Deader also has a day action for day 6

Day 6

Cedrick finds Quinn sympathetic and friendly to your cause. She commends you on the conduct last night and gives a promise to check in on Hungry when she can to see if he needs for healing. She parleys that there are definite murmurs among the crew over where their loyalties should be leaning... most are too afraid of open statements against Scourge and his cronies - but sentiment is slowly turning. Most look kinder on the measured mercy offered during the duel, rather than Plugg's overt cruelty. She also repeats her offer to help liberate a few items from Grok.

Obisyth finds that the bird is bone tired, but thankfully the wing is not too bloody. You'd wager it's in need of some rest before taking flight again.

Obisyth:
Just in case it wasn't obvious, this is your familiar opportunity

Sandara and Hungry are both friendly
I need to go back over the thread and give y'all an update of what you know of each of the crew.. so will try and push that out tomorrow.
Lastly, can I get one last Fort save (with +4 bonus) from Joneth.

Female Tiefling - Oni Spawn Druid(aquatic)/4 - HP 35/35; AC17/19 w/shield, FF15, T12; F+6,R+3,W+8; Per+11; Init+3

Recognizing that the bird needs some care, I find a place where it can be hidden for a few days and treat it as best I can.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 <--Assuming no familiar bonuses.
Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Sadly, I am not that familiar with the injury, but am able to find a concealed spot for the bird.

During the day, if possible, borrow/get a fishing line or net and try to catch a small fish for the bird and check on it whenever I can make a few moments.

Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Joneth easily climbs to reach the rigging, the previous days having contributed greatly to his getting used to the ship's motion. Once there, he does his best to repair the damaged sections, although he does improvise more than a little as he has little experience with such work. Still, he manages to do a good enough job and that, along with his leg feeling somewhat better today, cause a private smile to grace the rogue's features.

Once again, he goes about the ship during his break, this time not only for exploration, but also looking for hook and line for Obisyth.

Taking 10 on the Climb checks for a result of 16.

Dexterity 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Daytime Ship Action: Sneak.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Joneth will be looking for a fishing hook and some line to go with it probably at the quartermaster's store, unless there is a more promising place to find some depending on what he saw during his previous exploration forays.

Fortitude 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 4 = 20

The next day Deader makes his way to the kitchens and gabs with Kroop while helping him cook the rest of yesterday's catch.

Around mid day he says "I'm gonna take a quick break. These clothes are damn near rotting off. I'm going to check to see if the quartermaster has any decent duds."

Daytime activity: Shop

Minor Crab-beast

Joneth manages to find some fine thread in some of the repair supplies on deck, as well as a canvas needle that can be turned to a hook with a little application of brute force. He also finds that any lingering twinges in his leg have faded.

Joneth - your leg is fully healed now.

Obisyth is able to sneak below with the seabird and rustle up a hiding place in the main hold that is out of the way and unlikely to be disturbed (in behind the stowed catapult). The wild animal is initially wary, but she finds that the empathic link that she is able to establish with animals comes very easy with this one for some reason.

With the hook and line passed on from Joneth, Obisyth gets lucky and snares a smallish fish without much effort and is able to give the seabird succor from it's hunger.

Deader finds Grok in a reasonably good mood, and indeed the Quartermaster is often lounging in the doorway to the kitchen to swap tales with Kroop. She opens up her stores for you to take a looksee.

Deader - what are you after specifically from the shop? It has a few mundane outfits to choose from, but you could get a generic 'pirate's outfit' for half a gold (shoes, loose pants with belt, a loose shirt and a bandanna. Or you could get one of the outfits from the PRD.

The end of the workshift comes, and Deader and Kroop bring up a perfectly serviceable fish stew with beans for dinner. Grok brings up the cask of mind-numbing rum, and passes around the cups.

Rum and Night Actions for Day 6 please.

Sovereign Court

M Tiefling (Pit) Barb 5 HP:67/67, - AC: 18/T:12/FF:16 - Perception: +8(+10)(Dark Vision) F: +6/R: +3/W: +2 - CMB: +7 - CMD: 19, Speed: 40ft, Init: +4

Now completely washed out from the days running (and talking) Cedrick decides to turn in for the night and get some rest. He allows himself a small yet self satisfied smile that his actions are being well recieved.

Crew Recap:

Scourge's Cronies:
Maheem, Fipps, Syl, Tate, Aretta, Jape

Conchobar:
the gnome is an insufferable lecher, but despite that is an amicable enough fellow. His eyes wander to a muscular halfling lass who at present is listening to Cedrick's ribald tale - whose name you gather is Rosie. Conch is hopelessly sweet on the girl. He was also press-ganged to service, though seems to have accepted his lot. He is the one most enjoying the gambling as it takes place, getting equal pleasure from the game as well as the potential winnings.

Sandara Quinn:
You find Sandara Quinn a friendly and engaging workmate. While you are out of earshot of the others, she confides that she herself was press-ganged and she's looking for making friends. She is a devotee of the Pirate Queen herself - Besmara, and was able to trick the Quartermaster - a superstitious female half-orc named Grok - into giving up some of her old gear by naming it cursed. By way of peace offering, she reckons she could probably weasel a couple more items out of Grok if there was anything you were desparate for.

Cog:
a sullen man and you're surprised to find was not forced to service, but rather volunteered. Calloused knuckles and the crease of a broken nose give some indication of a history of fisticuffs. As he breathes over his dice you catch a faint prayer to the Lady of Graves - Pharasma, and the tone of his talk over the game tends to a dark and morbid sense of humour

Barefoot:
the lass has a reasonably warm disposition and you gather she grew up a fisherwoman in the Sodden Lands. She laments the fact that Kroop (the cook) tends to undercook and overspice the stews, and she has a sense of longing for a simple steamed fresh fish without any of the other accoutrements. You also note that she warmly bids a female one-eyed gnome goodnight as the other leaves the deck for the hammock

Ratline:
Ratline tends to be working fairly close as he's in the upper rigging - so you get a reasonable swadge of information out of him. He's less than attractive with a pinched face with hard lines and is missing three fingers. He swears it was in a fight to defend a woman's honor... but you wrangle out of him eventually it was for thieving before he came aboard he was after a fine bit of scrimshaw he saw in a merchant's shop and didn't have the cash for it. He doesn't come out and say it, but he seems right scared of Hungry below decks, though you can't elicit why.

Rosie:
Rosie is quite muscular for a halfling and Ratline says she's a dab hand with the axe at her belt. Apparently Fipps tried to get fresh early on and she threated to cut off his... appendage with it and the poor fatman's terrified of her now. She like to drink, and eat and drink some more too. Rosie also won't let up about her fiddle that she lost to the stores when she was forced aboard. Ratline himself begs you to get it for her just so she'd shut-up about it's loss.

Jack:
Joneth finds Jack an approachable fellow... but interminably dull. His issue at present is not the lack of desire or tools.. but rather the lack of anything to use as a medium. He has been carving woods, but the fine detail is badly lacking when compared to bone. You get a sense he'd be grateful enough to do you a piece if you furnished him with an appropriate chunk of ivory or chitin.

Shivikah:
Obisyth finds that Shivikah is an unrepentant ex-slaver, and traded in both white flesh and dark. She rode a slave ship as guard into Port Peril and found the lax laws more to her liking. Unfortunately a bit too much drink and the tender kiss of a sap and she was on board the Wormwood. She finds the life well enough but laments that apart from the officers, the crew on board are weaklings. She is a believer that respect is begat of strength, and no-one (man or woman) has proved themselves strong enough for her allegiance.

Giffer Tibbs:
He has a peculiar conversation with a Giffer Tibbs - an older female gnome who is missing one eye. She grins with a partially toothless jaw and pokes him in the thigh asking "If the snow on your head falls further south" cackling afterwords while slapping her knee. You see that she's dressed in what amount to pretty much rags at present, though a couple of pieces of cheap costume jewelry hint it might not have always been that way.
