She'd make a nice figurehead :) Thanks the the welcome back. I don't envy you the work Mark, but I think you're right to add in some events. I'm going to be looking at the same when I start the other one back up.

BTW, restarting her Day 10 is fine with me, specially since we're almost there.

Any chance Nachni had luck with procuring a whip from the store in exchange for a bracelet or two? I think I disappeared right when I was seeing if I could pull that off and I'm not sure if we resolved it.

Minor Crab-beast

From memory your last action was wrangling the fiddle out of Grok's hands - so I'm ok with you having procured a whip at the same time. Standard PRD price.

Getting late and just mulling over exactly how to react to Cedrick's re-interpretation of the rules ;)

Will advance plot tomorrow.

Lol - I though cold cocking your opponent was in the rule between dump rats and stomp on rats.

Well you be seein' Cap'n that there weren't no rules exactly only assumed guidelines between two competitors. Now we bein' Pirates an all one woulda been wise to set the exact terms of ones contest, lest ye be findin' the other side be fixin' fights to their advantages too. Can't be a lyin' cheatin' pirate and then get all sore in your porthole when the other pirates be fixed on lyin' and cheatin' too - cans ya now eh?

Minor Crab-beast

Haven't missed Nachni's post... just need to resolve the Cedrick situation before I feel safe to move to a denoument.

No worries, that is a much more serious situation :) Figure mine can play out the rest of the night.

Minor Crab-beast

For what it's worth... I'm actually really not liking basically acting as a continual killjoy DM at the moment. I like to encourage creative play and solutions and what not, and while I enjoy putting a bit of smackdown on PCs every now and again, I do actually like seeing them succeed.

Hopefully you'll forgive me for the fairly brutal start to the AP and trust me when I say it does get better.

I am having fun - it is always more difficult figuring out how to play a low charisma character. Just wish that I had memorized Purify Food and Drink - then I could have drunk these all night.

Minor Crab-beast

Probably should have had Scourge call you out on openly spellcasting in front of him... but didn't want to be too anal retentive :P

Female Tiefling - Oni Spawn Druid(aquatic)/4 - HP 35/35; AC17/19 w/shield, FF15, T12; F+6,R+3,W+8; Per+11; Init+3

I kind of always wondered how noticeable the casting of a cantrip is. The rules say you have to speak with a firm voice, yet a spell like Message which is designed to allow talking in whispers, does not logically seem to require a loud voice.

For something like guidance, it seems a simple prayer would be all that should be required. As opposed to Flame Strike or Call Lightning which would seem to involve great somatic gestures and calling out to the powers from above to bring holy retribution down.

So, yes, by the rules, Scourge probably could have heard and noticed what I did, but I hoped that it was such a minor spell that he would not have. (Should have probable been a Stealth versus a Spellcraft/Perception).

Anyway, thanks for not getting me more beat up - yet.

I'm having fun too and glad to be back. It fits with Nachni's personality to be slippery about her feelings. Not sure how she's going to react when she inevitably gets caught though...

I was thinking Bluff, but just looked into it and I don't think there is a way to use a skill check to hide that you're casting. I'd been debating the use of a little grease or touch of gracelessness myself. Anyway, I've got some prestidigitation to get that foul taste out of your mouth once he lets you go.

Female Tiefling - Oni Spawn Druid(aquatic)/4 - HP 35/35; AC17/19 w/shield, FF15, T12; F+6,R+3,W+8; Per+11; Init+3

I have Create Water - figure that will do the trick. Thanks though for the offer.

Web 1/1

It does say that you speak in a firm voice, but magic doesnt care about language. Just pick a casting tongue that no one understands. If there's no visual effect to the spell it would probably just look like you were talking to yourself in a foreign language. Not that uncommon on a pirate ship.

Technically, Spellcraft is the skill that let's people figure what spells are being cast, or even that a spell was cast at all. Sure, fireball's probably a DC negative 2 to figure out. Purify Food though? Might not be so obvious.

Female Tiefling - Oni Spawn Druid(aquatic)/4 - HP 35/35; AC17/19 w/shield, FF15, T12; F+6,R+3,W+8; Per+11; Init+3

Hmmm - languages nobody understands LIKE DRUIDIC???

Exactly. :)

Female Tiefling - Oni Spawn Druid(aquatic)/4 - HP 35/35; AC17/19 w/shield, FF15, T12; F+6,R+3,W+8; Per+11; Init+3

So, the next questions is - Purify Food and Drink makes rotten, spoiled, diseased, poisoned, etc. food and drink edible. Would it make the swill they call rum non-addicting and non-alcoholic?

Stats:
AC 16/12/14 HP 13/21 F+1 R+8 W+3 Init +4 Per+4

That's an interesting question. Sadly there is a level 1 spell enhance water that changes regular water into alcohol (my alcoholic oracle in Mark's Zolurket campaign has it of course) that might be precedence for it being a level 1.

Female Tiefling - Oni Spawn Druid(aquatic)/4 - HP 35/35; AC17/19 w/shield, FF15, T12; F+6,R+3,W+8; Per+11; Init+3

Of course destroying alcohol is much easier than creating it. Poison is a level 3/4 spell - destroy poison is a cantrip (Purify Food and Drink)

Minor Crab-beast

How are you guys finding the whole AM - action, PM - action scenario?

I'm finding it a little restrictive as far as putting together party inclusive situations and would prefer to simplify it a little. Each day there would be an 'event' to react to, and you can also post up what you're doing on the sidelines.

Secondly - the jobs seem a bit extraneous after a while. I'd considering tossing out the skill checks except for special circumstances. Would you be terribly upset if that was the case?

Female Tiefling - Oni Spawn Druid(aquatic)/4 - HP 35/35; AC17/19 w/shield, FF15, T12; F+6,R+3,W+8; Per+11; Init+3

Whatever you think will make things roll along smooth. I don't mind the rolls, but they are kind of repetitive, yeh, we miss one every so often and get beaten. You could just as easily give us a description and have Scourge or Plugg decide that they don't like someone and beat them for no reason. Pretty much what he does anyway it seems.

Stats:
AC 16/12/14 HP 13/21 F+1 R+8 W+3 Init +4 Per+4

I'm fine if you want to change things up. Not tied to the AP or what we've been doing so far. I wonder if this was a case where they might have preferred to do the same thing, but ran into word count issues?

Web 1/1

So far things have been going like this-

You give us our tasks, we roll for them and describe our starting actions to go along with the rolls, then you give us a description of the day's events. After that we're usually done for the day unless something weird is going on.

I feel like this is a little backwards somehow.

I think if it were up to me, I'd handle a day something like this-

1) Give us our day's tasks and make the rolls in the discussion thread.

2) You give us the "what happens that morning" post to set the stage, even allowing our rolls to effect or shape your description since you'd know beforehand the results of those rolls.

3) We then can post our reactions and expand on how much we did or didn't screw up and have any necessary interactions with the crew.

4) You do a wrap up of the work day and ask us to choose and roll night events in the discussion thread (this also lets us coordinate night actions a little better).

5) You write up the results of our checks and have us whipped (or whatever)

6) New day, start over.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Im not attached particularly to the daily rolls. I suppose it should only really be an issue in a special circumstance... or if it was a particular;y tough job.

I'm happy with switching up.

I do agree though that it does disjoint theparty a bit, and the focus is 2/3 of our posts on individual tasks rather than group, that said there hasn't been too many incidences of group based activity (aside from a brawl and a bug hunt!) though I suspect that will change.

At the end of the day though, Cedricks machinations are all playing out quite nicely, the grand scheme couldn't be going better for him.

Minor Crab-beast

On the table in might be different, but it definitely feels a bit off here. As you've noted the only reason for the ship roles are to see if you get whipped... which doesn't happen often, and similarly doesn't really add much to the experience. We're on day 10 of 21 in the first chapter - and as a DM I'd prefer to get into a situation where I'm not being forced to be so antagonistic towards you guys.

Deader - the way you lay it out would be more organic and involved... but on PbP would likely have an unfortunate side-effect of stretching out the days longer in terms of real time. As I said before, the real meat and potatoes of this AP comes once you're able to cast off the shackles and become captain and crew on your own.

Web 1/1

That's a very good point.

Maybe rolling a few days at a time in the discussion thread and having you give us an overview write up might be a way to speed things along?

Minor Crab-beast

Yeah, I'll probably do something akin to that. Work has been slamming so will have update tonight at home.

Minor Crab-beast

Ok, I've decided to throw out the daily job checks for now. If anything is required I'll state it explicitly in thread.

For the day and night actions for Day 10 - you can either throw it up in game thread or on here as to what you're aiming to achieve and I'll work it into the narrative flow.

DM VoV - Is there a chance we could get an update on who we know to be on our side (I think this is in the Campaign thread), who are the Plugg/Scourge groupies, and who is neutral/unknown. Despite my general social ineptitude, I would still like to try to influence people, but at this point I am not sure who is neutral and who is on the dark side.

Minor Crab-beast

Obisyth - I'll get the campaign tracker updated soonish, but the ones that attended the conspiratorial meeting are the ones that are your fast friends (plus Hungry of course).

Kroop is friendly, but more of a special case at present as he's mostly limited to the kitchen in terms of influence.

Scourge's cronies are Fipps, Jape, Syl, Tate, Maheem and Aretta.

The others are generally undecided.

Minor Crab-beast

Campaign Tracker updated to reflect current status. Let me know if any of them seem incorrect.

Web 1/1

Voice, I've been doing a lot of thought about Deader, and have decided that I'm not too happy with how he's shaping up as a Death Mage. The class is sorely lacking in versatility.

Would you mind if I remade him as a Cleric with the Undead and Dark Tapestry domains? The Agent of the Grave PRC will give me the wizardy flavor i was hoping for

Minor Crab-beast

If that's the way that you'd like Deader to go then I have no objections to you rebuilding.

As far as negative channeling goes (if you go that way), I'd also extend the same courtesy that I have done to the Cleric in my Way of the Wicked game - to ease the healing issue I've allowed a use of a negative channel to instill an infernal healing effect on a single target (fast healing 1 for a minute).

Web 1/1

That will help. I'd planned on using the Undead domain ability to instil people with undead-like traits to allow other people to benefit from negative energy. I'll be terrible at combat healing, but out of combat I'll be a pretty good battery.
