Nuri is right, Eponine is still "hiding" in Q7 which is where Roakkad wants to end his movement to charge and attack Grayst. Roakkad do you still want to charge into her last known whereabouts or do you want to assume she moved out of the way and charge in anyway.
Eponine |
Thanks!
Prescience roll 1d20 ⇒ 6
Counting on the invisibility to mask her movements, Eponine draws her blade and moves around to attack the robed man who emerged with the zombie horde.
Move to S8, readying elven curved blade as she goes.
Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage 1d10 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + (5, 3) = 11

Roakkad rushes forward hugging the wall to avoid where he thinks Eponine might be standing. Grayst ignores him, too busy searching the area franticly to see where the object of his mad infatuation has disappeared to screaming, "Oh why does he love you, why you and not me!" Roakkad smashes him in the head with the blunt part of his traditional klar. With a low moan the madman collapses and crumples to the floor.
With a few magical intoned words, Wren enchants her companions energizing them to move faster. I assume by your post you are not including yourself so you can affect the five others in the party, unless you want to leave one of them unaffected so you have the haste.
Victor steps towards the fight lines up his arrow and lets it fly, after it strikes true he lets loose as second that also impales the target. With the haste in effect you can fire another arrow.
Eponine slides around the unmoving form of Grayst and attacks the robed newcomer, blink back into view as she does. The blade cuts him deep, blood gushing forth as he too falls to the ground with a gurgling cry or pain and surprise.

Nuri Besnic |
"Our necromancer, I presume," Nuri remarks dryly, watching the man crumble to the ground off Eponine's suddenly visible blade. "We'll have questions for him. Bizitza zaintzeko," she points at the fallen foe and climbs up onto the table. "Fall back, and let the zombies in," she tells Kern, preparing her holy symbol to channel divine judgment on the undead. "Roakkad, don't let them feed on Sevila."

Nuri works her magic, knitting the wicked gash on the mans body stopping the fast flow of blood as she leaps up onto the table.
Erin Habe and his orderlies continue your quick exit out the northern door, slamming it closed after the last one is through.
The zombies press on mindlessly attacking. One steps over the bleeding body and thrashes out at Eponine. The next comes into the room charging towards Kern, reaching with the claws. A third shuffles into the room behind them.

"Step back and yell when you get away from the zombies, Epi. I need room to loose a spell!"
Delay until I get an all clear from Epi to loose a cone shaped spell.
Victor Montoya |
Stepping forward, Victor looks curiously at Wren a moment. "Ms. Wren! Do you not see Ms. Eponine right THERE?! I believe this fight would go far better for you - and us - if you fought with your eyes open. Incoming!" Victor warns as he takes aim and fires relentlessly at a zombie.
Lol! Sorry, Wren, I just couldn't resist. :) (Eponine is actually visible, by the way) "Wait! I think I just failed a spot check." Lol! ;D

As Roakkad moves to cover the fallen madman, Wren calls out, "Step back and yell when you get away from the zombies, Epi. I need room to loose a spell!"
Victor edges forward and lets loose another barrage of arrows. Each strikes the zombie one in each eye socket and one dead center of its gaping jaw. Black ichor sprays across the wall behind it as it is re-killed instantly.
Eponine then quickly separates its lifeless head from its lifeless body with two quick twists of her blade before stepping back as Wren requested. Once she is clear, Wren blasts the corner with fire as she steps closer to the wall. Both are consumed and burn quickly to a crisp.
I had Wren 5ft step to P9, this lets you hit both remaining zombies and avoid the robed man on the floor.

Roakkad rushes back to the reception chamber where Habe and his orderlies fled. They are not in the room, but there are two closed doors. One on the west wall leads back outside as the main entrance door to the facility. The other is in the north wall, and Roakkad easily pushes it open to reveal a bedroom.
The orderlies puff up their chests to protect Habe, but don't move to attack. Habe appears to be stuffing personal effects into a backpack. He spins and seeing the Shoanti shouts, "Caizarlu is the one you want, please, mercy!"
Roakkad "Tames The Skies" |
We already have him in our custody. Come with us quietly... all of you... and i'm sure your testimonies will nullify or ease your punishments Roakkad assured the three.
Victor Montoya |
As Roakkad takes off after the others, Victor looks around and seeing no other threat, moves to catch up. As he does, he hears the shouting and then hears Roakkad responding. "I heard the name 'Zarlu' or some such. Who is this you speak of?"
Mythril DM |
The orderlies look to Habe and with a nod from him relax, lowering the short clubs they carry presumably to keep the patients in line. The three return quietly to the main room.
Habe answers Victor, "The elderly man over there. He is my....partner, so to speak. The Saintly Haven of Respite had been a dream of mine, a place for the ill of mind to be treated and recover, but building it was expensive. I needed finical support and thats when Caizarlu Zerren found me. He was retiring and had money, promised to not meddle in the day to day affairs of the facility, as long as he could maintain chambers in the cellar. He kept to himself, and I kept to my work."
Victor Montoya |
"So he was building a zombie army, and you knew nothing about this?" he asks, a skeptical eyebrow raised. "And who was the robed man that seemed to be controlling the zombies? Or is that who this Caizarlu person is? I cannot quite tell by who you mean when you say 'over there'."
Eponine |
"And what does this have to do with me?!? I don't know anything about the undead! I haven't met any of these people before!"
The elf looks ready to brim over with emotion, but whether that is rage or frustration, not even she seems to know. But her posture, flushed cheeks and quivering lip leave no doubt as to how strong the feelings are.
Nuri Besnic |
"Then how did Tall, Pale, and Depraved recognize you?" Nuri demands a little suspiciously. "Then again," she admits, "this is a small town. I don't suppose there are more than a handful of female elves around."
"Mr. Habe," she demands, "have you a room with a window in the door? I'd like to be able to observe Mr. Sevilla in a bit more security than the jacket provided."
Wren Chavali |
Wren stood by fuming. She was waiting for the answers, especially to Victor's query. How were all the undead created and no one noticed?!
Mythril DM |
The female Tiefling sneers at Victor, "Four is hardly an army." Habe glares at her and continues, "Yes, that man over there...the one on the floor, that is Caizarlu. As I said, in return for his his finical support I let him work in the cellar. He kept it locked and I did not pry, I was unaware he worked the dark magic of the dead. I suspected he was not the most above board citizen, I had heard rumors a Sczarni gang was after him, but he funded me with real gold, didn't meddle in my work, and was a perfectly quite tenant until today. Your presence her obviously scared him, perhaps he thought you were the Varisian cutthroats finally caught up with him."
When Eponine questions what it all has to do with her Habe says,"Deputy, I have no idea what your talking about." To Nuri he adds, "I think patient Grayst has had too much excitement for one day. I am sorry for his outburst, I had no idea he would react that way. I thank you for subduing him, but now I think it best we return him to his room. Deputy Eponine's presence has certainly upset him." Seemingly to regain his composure after the sudden outburst and following attack he asks, "Will you be needing to examine the remains of Caizarlu, or may I have my orderlies bury the body? To the best of my knowledge there are no next of kin, but you a free to examine his chambers below.
Nuri Besnic |
"Mr. Habe," Nuri says firmly, "Grayst Sevilla is suffering from the late stages of ghoul fever. When he dies -- not if, but when -- he will be transformed into a powerful undead creature with an infectious bite and a taste for human flesh. If you wish to keep him here, that is your prerogative, but this sanatorium will be quarantined, and you will be putting yourself and any staff that choose to remain" -- she glances at the tieflings -- "at grave risk. He needs to be in a secure location in the company of people who are ... prepared to deal with the consequences of his death."
Wren Chavali |
"As far along as he is in his transformation, is there any reason to keep him alive? If he is too far gone for healing magic, I think it would be more merciful for someone to plant an axe in his head."
Nuri Besnic |
"A cure is possible," Nuri admits, "but in a case so far advanced, time is against us. I couldn't even attempt it until the morning, and I'm not sure he has that long. I don't know what Father Zantus's capabilities might be, and anyone trying to tend to him would be putting themselves at risk. Other than total destruction of the body, I'm not even sure there's a way to put him down without his turning. Has he any family who might have an interest in his care? Mr. Habe, who is paying for his internment here? Or was he a charity case to provide more raw materials to your prize boarder?" she asks dryly.
Mythril DM |
Habe responds, "He is certainly not a charity case. Now that you mention it, Caizarlu was particularly interested in this patient, but he had his work and I have mine. Your deputy Belril brought Grayst here with the promise from the sheriff that compensation for his expenses would be paid. I expect the Mayor will be sending funds by the end of the month, that has been are arrangement in the past when the town watch has needed my services. To the best of my knowledge he has no family, he has only been here a few days and his outburst today is the most active he has been."
Nuri Besnic |
Nuri sighs. "Lock him up for now, behind the strongest door you have. Perhaps the sheriff can tell us more about Sevilla; unless he's restored to his right mind, I doubt he'll tell us any more that can be of use."
Suggest we get a message to the sheriff somehow to send people to come pick up the necromancer. Sandpoint ought to be a more secure place to question him.
Victor Montoya |
"Will you be needing to examine the remains of Caizarlu, or may I have my orderlies bury the body? To the best of my knowledge there are no next of kin, but you a free to examine his chambers below.
"I do not believe he is dead. Let us make sure of that first. If he is not, we will turn him over to the sheriff and he can take care of him. If he is... well, I guess we have no further use for him. Now, how do we get to this man's chambers?" he asks Habe.
Mythril DM |
The orderlies usher Grayst upstairs as Habe follows pointing to the door that the zombies burst out of saying. "His chambers were down there." His tone indicates the sanitarium doctor doesn't think highly of Victor's deduction skills. Nuri kneels by the fallen spell caster, he has a weak pulse and is unconscious.
Victor Montoya |
Victor looks at the man through narrowed eyes, unsure of how to take his answer. "Thank you... I think. I will go and investigate the man's chambers. If any wish to do so as well, then feel free to follow." Victor takes his leave down to the chambers below.
Wren Chavali |
Wren plucks the two vials and two wands from the corpses. She stows them to analyze at a later time. She then falls in line with the rest of the group, heading further in the dwelling, looking for more undead.
Mythril DM |
Eponine leads the way, finding nothing dangerous enters the lower level of the building. The stairs enter the room on the southern edge of the eastern wall. Two doors are closed and exit the room one on the center of the western wall, the other centered on the eastern wall several feet from where the stairs enter the room. This large room combines the features of a wizard's laboratory and a catacomb several tables bearing bodies covered by drapes dominate the room, while tools ranging from shovels to dissection implements sit on shelves against the wall. You all quickly spread out and search the room. Currently there are three bodies on tables, humans that Caizarlu uses for experimentation and they appear to be magically preserved. The only other item ofinterest here is a map of the Sandpoint hinterlands that Caizarlu has been using to track what he has labeled as "ghoul activity." It seems the necromancer has gathered this information over the past several days, and has noted in particular that there's been an increase in ghoul sightings around the southern farmlands and along Foxglove River. Caizarlu's current research is concerned with developing a method by which one could track a ghoul's lineage back through several "generations" of ghoul attacks. His research has stalled, according to his notes, he's hoping that Grayst will succumb soon so he'll be able to dissect the body to gather more data before it rises as a ghoul and becomes much more difficult to study. One takeaway from his notes is the very strong possibility of what he calls a "ghoulish source" having risen to prominence in the region. Searching about also finds a wand hidden in a compartment of one of the table legs.
Nuri Besnic |
"Take the map," Nuri directs. "We can use it." Assuming the corpses appear still to be merely corpses, she returns to Roakkad on the main floor. "If you want to bury something," she tells Mr. Habe, "you can start with the corpses downstairs. While it might seem poetic justice to bury a necromancer alive, I suspect the Sandpoint authorities might have questions for him."
You want to identify the wand, Wren?
Wren Chavali |
While Nuri talks to the others, Wren starts looking at the magic her cantrip revealed.
She first looks at the vials, and now the three wands.
Spellcraft rolls:
Vial 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Vial 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Wand from corpse 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Wand from corpse 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Wand from table leg 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
