Wren you don't have line of sight yet, you need to move to at least M21 on the map before you can see it. Do you want to move there on your action if it is still open after everyone else moves?

Kern charges across the room and lands a powerful blow on the creatures body, it responds by slapping a constricting tentacle at him. The appendage strikes true, but Kern easily avoids it tightening grasp.

Belril rushes into the room getting behind Kern as he battles the creature. Following him Victor enters the chamber, pulling his bow and getting ready to fire upon the monster. Eponine dashes past Belril getting close to the creature, it swings it's tentacle at her grasping her tight into its coiling grasp. Wren moves up the passage to get a better view of the fight. Sophy creeps carefully along the wall trying to see the creature without getting in the way.

Free Grapple attempt: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

Eponine, Sophy, Wren:

You recognize the creature as a Tentamort. Tentamorts are eerie ambush predators, preferring to let prey come to them rather than seeking food out, and relying on their excellent senses to warn them of approaching meals. A tentamort possesses several tentacles, most of which are used for locomotion but two of which have evolved for singular purposes in securing food. One of these longer tentacles is covered with tiny, sticky nodules and is capable of constricting prey, while the other ends in a long, thin stinger. The tentamort's method of attack is to grab its prey with its constricting tentacle and sting the grappled target with the other. Tentamort poison is particularly horrific, as it swiftly liquefies the creature's internal organs into a rancid slurry the monster can then drink with the same stinger, siphoning out the fluid with foul sucking sounds. Larger creatures often require multiple stings before they can be fully absorbed by a tentamort. Tentamorts are almost mindless, possessing just enough intellect to make crude animal judgments about peril and food. Once a tentamort has grabbed prey it tends to focus entirely on that creature, ignoring attacks upon it from other sources as long as its current victim remains a source of nutrition. After a tentamort finishes consuming a creature, all that typically remains are the bones and skin.

Sophy gasps in horror as Eponine is wrapped in the creature's tentacle. "You have to kill it, fast!" she urges the others. "It won't let her go until it's dead -- or she is!"

Eponine howls in pain as toxin floods into her system, weakening her and making her insides swoon.

Eponine has the nauseated condition and can only make move actions, escaping a grapple is a standard action. Sophy crosses over to Eponine and places her hands on the elf letting a surge of healing power flow. Eponine spews another large amount of stomach contents and bile, after which the wave a nausea fades. Eponine's body has fought off the toxin, but is weakened greatly by the effort.

Eponine has a current CON of 6 -2; which if I understand the rules right drops her max hp to 18. Sophy heals the wound but the effects of the poison need a different kind of healing.

"We shouldn't leave her alone," Sophy disagrees with Wren. "I could stay with her ... or maybe Orik would be a better guardian," she reconsiders, wondering what exactly she could do to defend the elf if a wandering monster happened along.

Either we leave her with the NPC, or we take her with us and take her melee weapon away so she has to use her crossbow and stay out of the fray. ;)

"No, but you might have done so by luck. Put that away," Sophy says firmly, looking at her curved blade, "and ready your crossbow." She folds her arms like a schoolmarm and waits for the elf to comply.

Too tired to argue, Eponine sheathes her blade and starts to ready her crossbow.

As she does, Camlo climbs out of the pouch at the small of Eponine's back and opens up her backpack. The monkey withdraws a finely carved wooden baton, laced with inlaid silver. The monkey slaps Eponine in the side of the head with it, accompanied by an irritated chitter.

Then Camlo hops down, drags the wand over to Sophy and presents it with a flourish and a bow.

Eponine rubs her head where the wand struck, but says "Oh, yes. That w-was in the ch-chest that Ameiko l-left for me. W-what d-did her note s-say? Detect magic and Spellcraft to identify wand 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 Well, she can't identify it from that. Assuming she takes Ameiko's word for it, does she need a UMD roll to Activate Blindly, or can she use it normally even without knowing what it is since the spell's on her spell list?

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

If it is on your list you can use it. Eponine has clearly indicated what it will do, so role-play some of Sophy's Oracle-ness to show how she figures it out.

Female Human Lore Oracle 5

Sophy takes the wand from the monkey with a puzzled frown. Turning it over in her hands, she can see the baton's aura but can't identify what spell might be encased within the wood and silver. Still, it feels familiar. Wholesome. "Ameiko wouldn't give you anything harmful," she reasons, taking the thicker end of the wand in her hand a little timidly. Setting the business end to Eponine's shoulder, as if preparing to knight her, she shuts her eyes and concentrates, trying to nudge the slender stick to discharge. When it does, it is with a zap that startles her; her eyes fly open, and she fumbles the delicate wand, just managing to close her hand around it before it tumbles to the ground. "Eponine?" she gasps anxiously. "Are you all right?"

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

While Sophy tends to her poisoned companion, Kern Belril and Wren take a look in the chamber to the north. They find dozens of strange dead bodies lying scattered about. Most are of sea birds and ospreys, but there are six dead goblins here as well. Each body is literally skin and bones, as if all of the interior organs and muscles have somehow been drained away, leaving behind skeletons draped with leathery, slowly rotting skin. Wren's arcane vision indicates one of the goblins is wearing hide armor that is imbued with magical protection. At Wren's direction Kern strips it off the corpse finding it to be decent condition, but in need of a good cleaning.

Eponine is back to 100%, That completes this level and I assume that with Eponine healthy you are going to go down the stairs and seek the fugitives and what ever Nualia was hunting. The Heroes of Sandpoint return to the workroom where the secret door to the lower level is located. Eponine leads the way down the stairs, each of you slightly concerned about the magic in the air. Yet nothing happens and the air seems fresh and clean even this deep into the islands center. A stone door just around the corner from the steps hangs slightly ajar, the detailed carvings that once covered its surface defaced by chisel marks and hammer blows to the extent that only a few remnants of images (mostly of gemstones and crowns) remain. The floor here is slanted toward the west. Eponine studies the door, and the pushes it the rest of the way open once determining it is safe. In the room beyond two pillars support the ceiling. In many places the stone walls, floor, and ceiling are caked with ancient grime and soot. Alcoves in the north and south wall contain partially damaged statues of a man in robes clutching a book and a glaive. The entire room is canted toward the west, and whatever ancient upheaval caused the complex to tilt knocked the statues from their bases so that the ones in the south half of the room lean against the southern walls of their alcoves while the two in the north half of the room have toppled to the floor in their alcoves. To the east there is another closed door made of stone.

Lower Level Map North is the top of the map, Let me know if there is something you want to do before going down the stairs.

Wren pays particular attention to the toppled statues, again keeping her magical vision trained on the room. "What in the world happened down here," she wondered out loud.

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

Wren doesn't see any magical auras other than the effect in the air that seems to keep it fresh and recycled. The statues all appear to be of the same man and the book he is holding has the seven-pointed star motif upon it. Once Eponine gave the all clear, Belril started to search the room as well. Closely examining the soot and grime he says, "There is something unusual about the soot on these walls, it's not natural like from a torch or lantern fire. It must have come from some sort of creature, but I don't know what. It is very old and may have been here for decades."

Flextime. When the wand is discharged, Eponine lurches upright. "Wow. I feel like I just drank a whole pot of Bethana's special tea! Amazing!"

Stowing her crossbow and drawing her blade, Eponine says to Sophy "Thank you. And I am going to impose on you to hold onto that" she says, gesturing at the wand. "For I think we all know I am far more likely to be the recipient of its benefits rather than its user." Eponine gives her a mischevious wink and sets off to lead the way, glancing over her shoulder to make sure Kern is close behind.

Regular time. Eponine will advance into the room, giving a close look at the statues to see who or what they depicted.

Female Human Lore Oracle 5

Relieved that she hadn't inadvertently done something horrible to Eponine with the mysterious wand, she carefully tucks it away next to the one Father Zantus gave her. I hope I don't get them mixed up, she worries.

Following the others downstairs cautiously, she peers at the nearest statue, examining the man's face, his robes, and his gear, to see if she can identify who it represents.

Eponine and Sophy also look at the statues. The man is unidentifiable, but the stone used is similar to the shards found on the table upstairs. It is possible the name plate that had the word "Karzoug" on it came from one of these statures.

Sophy looks at the soot smears that Belril indicates, she agrees that it doesn't seem to come from a natural fuel source but is unable to discern anything else about it.

Female Human Lore Oracle 5

"If this is Karzoug...," Sophy speculates. "He was a Runelord, the enemy of Alaznist, the woman with the ranseur in the statue under Sandpoint. I think ... Erylium ... knew him." She trails off, horrified and ashamed once again by the memory she had stolen from the quasit's mind. "Why was Nualia defacing these statues? The damage she's done...," she shakes her head. "Or maybe the damage was done when the place was burned and," she glances down at the slanted floor, "shaken. Perhaps she was only picking up shards that were already broken."
