Nope, Brock smashed him dead. Then he smashed the other one dead into the next level.

Starting the last week of classes for this semester and then Exams next week. DM posting could be spotty at best until I get through the next two weeks. You have been warned :)

If we absolutely bankrupt ourselves, we can afford 4 CLW potions, assuming there are that many available at short notice. A good Diplomacy roll and an appeal to the good of Sandpoint and we might persuade Father Zantus to throw in a 5th one, since there's 5 of us. I hate taking that much money from Eponine, though. Should we hope we can get by with 2 or 3 (again, assuming they're available for purchase)? Sophy can stabilize anyone who falls below 0 HP, but that's the extent of our healing abilities until we rest (and assuming she's not the one unconscious).

I'm trying to make sure I haven't made a clerical error here. did we have an influx of cash that others spent but Epi didn't? I'm trying to figure out why she has so much more on hand than anyone else?

And Eponine has no problem contributing the lion's share of the cash.

We each got 5 platinum from that guy you saved in the initial goblin raid; all I know that Eponine bought with it was her dress for the theater. She put one coin aside to save, though.

Thanks. Maybe this weekend I can carve out some time to go over the numbers and make sure I didn't inflate anything in error.

Okay, so I just dropped my Laptop destroying the power plug socket. While I have limited access to another lap top it wont have the Maping Tools program on it that I use. We could be mapless for a bit until I can figure out how to get this fixed.

Hope it's not affecting any of your end-of-the-year school work.

Very unlucky to have it happen, but luckily it happened after I finished my last 10 page paper, and completed all my classes for the semester. I don't need it again until July except for PBP, Facebook and email.

Hey Gerald, I need to clear something up just for my own conscious.

The issue that happened between Victor and Wren, I want you to know that it was just a roleplay deal. I honestly wasn't trying to provoke, or just flat out tick you off. I just thought it kinda fit the whole scene and I pretty much expected Wren to respond in kind, and knew from that, it would be a good back and forth.

I say this because, after reading a thread where there is purposeful instigating/going after another pc, I figured I better clear this up, just in case I might have offended you in some way. If I did offend you in anyway, let me apologize now.

You see, that sorta of thing REALLY ticks me off and if I was in that thread, I can tell you there would be issues. There is no call for that in any thread AND as a group in said thread, it would be metagaming(imo) to allow this pc to join(it's an original player running a new pc) just because they have their new pc ready to go. That's bullcrap. I just hope the DM puts a stop to it, cause it's truly uncalled for.

Anyway, ranting here, I just wanted you to know(and the rest of you for that matter) that I will NOT go out of my way just to irritate or "go after" any of your characters.

I truly meant for it to be all in fun. If there is EVER an instance that I come across as offensive, PLEASE let me know. This is a game and games are suppose to be fun and I don't want to be the jerk that ruins it for others.

Oh gosh, JD, no offense was taken. Wren was actually the one who was being feisty, not Victor. I thought the interaction with Sophy, Victor and Wren was awesome, actually. As there are more fights and Wren's temper bubbles up once again, I figure she will end up blowing up at everyone at some point, then will slowly recede, as things calm down. And yes, its definitely all good fun. If I take it too far, please let me know and I'll be happy to dial her back several notches. I just love the idea of a fiery tempered evoker...

If you don't mind my asking, what thread did you read? I'd like to check that out to see exactly what happened.

Worst example I've ever seen of it in a PbP was in a Second Darkness thread. One of the PCs took the Bully trait way too seriously and devoted his time to publicly humiliating one of the other PCs. By the time the other player finally quit on page 4, the bully had actually publicly urinated on the other PC, a bard, during his bardic performance. And, of course, the excuse was "I'm just playing my character." I was disappointed the DM didn't step in to stop the player-vs.-player when it became obvious it wasn't "fun" to both of them.

Moring Day 1 Total earned XP: 12900

From a DM point of view, I haven't seen anything in the thread that appears to be out of line in terms of conflict between characters. I think tension between characters is a good thing, everyone in the world doesn't always get along. I like that banter back and forth between Victor and Wren and Sohpy. Let it play out, something might happen to reverse their views or push them farther apart and they will have to figure out how to work together. Perhaps another character will need to intervene and the characters will become that much more bonded together. I half expected Wren to slap Victor across the face awhile back. As long as the story is going along and the characters are developing I like some mild conflict. That said, the game should be fun for everyone. One of the reasons I have been enjoying gaming with this group is the mature level of role-play we can get enjoy without being perverted or angry as players is awesome. So while I am feeling confident we don't have an issue in our group, IF anyone were to find themselves not having fun please email me and let me know so I can work to fix it. That is the end of my DM PSA, now back to your regularly scheduled program (at least as soon as I can get my PC {as in personal computer} situation resolved...I hate DELL right now).

My character delivered a great deal of snark to markofbane's PC in our late lamented Council of Thieves game, but I like to think we both knew it was all in good fun. :)

(I had one real zinger of an insult for Foofy I was saving for just the right occasion. Alas, it was never to be delivered.)

It certainly was in great fun! I loved that dynamic. Go ahead with the one last zinger. You know you want to!

+1. Totally agree completely with the entirety of this. And no, I have zero problem with Wren, I like her fieryness!

I must say though, the bolded emphasis(mine) would have been absolutely funny! Personally, I actually would have loved to have seen Victor's reaction! :)

Legacy of fire

My take:
This is the thread. You really only have to read maybe the last 1 1/2 to 2 pages. It actually involves your character, Joana. (Let me be clear, this is MY take on this, do not feel you have to respond unless you just want too, Joana.)

The schtik is, she has this halfling barbarian that distrusts magic users. Obviously, it's not an in-game problem, it's just part of her character. She still works with the party just fine. Well, Tanner brings in a new character(a gnome sorceress), because he's tired of the old one, and winds up color spraying Joana's character.

Now imagine, this halfling barbarian, who already is untrusting of magic users, gets zapped by this NEW character with a spell, how do you think she would react?

Well, after she becomes unstunned, and the group talks her down from going all ragefest on Tanner's character, Tanner proceeds to TAUNT her. This "new" pc, that he has brought in, who is a magic user, who just zapped her with a spell, TAUNTS the barbarian. What kinda crap is that about?

Now, in character, wouldn't you figure Joana's halfling would attack? The problem with that is, doing such would cause problems within the thread. It's almost like Tanner thinks, "This is my character, they have to accept me." Not me. I don't think so chump. Sorry.

Am I overreacting? Possibly. But since it irritated me so much, I thought of Victor and Wren and figured I'd better say something in case I, myself, caused such a stir.

And I've seen that SD thread that Joana linked to. That was also a truly sad ordeal as the DM did nothing to put a stop to it. So the player left. If the players can't put an end to it, I hope Dan E does.

Again, let me be clear. This is strictly MY take on the issue.

He's a tiefling now, isn't he, rather than a half-elf? That would be a whole different dynamic for Freya.

re: Legacy of Fire:
The character was just introduced. While I admit to being ... somewhat peeved at his choice of characters, I'm hoping it can be worked out. It's not just a character quirk; my barbarian actually has the Superstitious archetype which means she doesn't trust arcanists and believes they should be defeated -- which makes it kind of like a necromancer joining a party that already has an Undead Scourge paladin, ordering his zombies to attack her, then taunting her that should she fall in battle, he'll animate her corpse to carry his gear. So ... yeah. :P

It seems like it is going to be a while until I get MY laptop back. Dell is giving me a bunch of crap about sending me the box to ship it to them. I called them last Thursday, and they still cant do it, something about the tools for their system need to be updated. I think it is because I don't want spend $120 on an extended warranty. Anyway if they send it today its 3-5 days to get the box then 7-10 days to repair and send it back. The problem is I don't have access to the map program on my wife's PC. I will leave it up to the group, should we wait until I can post the maps or do we want to continue on without the visual aid?

I am fine with whatever you prefer, DM. I think we could struggle through with no maps for a while...

I'm fine either way. Maps or no maps. Whatever you're more comfortable with.

I'm torn. If we're just exploring, I think we could get by on just description, but combats without a map aren't as immersive or as much fun as with. There's no use of terrain, no cover or concealment, and no one ever seems to get in anyone else's way.

OTOH, I miss the game and would like to get back to it as soon as possible.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

I don't blame you on the extended warranty. I hate they way these companies(i.e. Best buy, etal) ask you if you want this 2 year warranty for a million bucks, when all you're really paying for is one year. It's already got coverage for one year.

As far as the maps go, it does make it a lot easier for movement, knowing where you're at, etc, etc...

Definitely prevents a lot of questions.

But, having said that, I also am enjoying the heck out of this thread, so, if you want to move on, that's cool.

In essence, I guess I would echo both Gerald and Joana.

And I'm glad I could be absolutely no help whatsoever in answering your question. You don't have to thank me, it's no trouble really ;)

Ditto.

Moring Day 1 Total earned XP: 12900

Okay, I have thought long and hard on this and I think I am going to wait until I get my laptop back. For me the combat would be very difficult to run with out the map and I figure you will be in combat before my PC returns from Dell. Also, I think a short sabbatical as the DM may be a good thing to help me revitalize after the long semester. I love the game and we will be back at it as soon as I have my fixed PC up and running. Thanks for your patience.

Sounds good! I'm sure you won't have any trouble rounding us up when you're ready again.

Thanks again for taking on RotRL for us. I know it is a lot of work, even with an existing module, to run a game like this.

Yeah, I am having a blast! And with Wren I mean that figuratively and literally!

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Will be ready to roll when you are, Mythril. This is a most fun pbp!

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Just rambling here. (Mainly because I like to ramble. Sorry. I have found out that's what I do.) *shrugs* :)

This is actually one of two pbp's that I find the absolute most fun.

Mainly because of the challenge of the two characters. They are quite difficult for me to post for. Heck, I have a hard enough time posting as it is, much less for a character with something behind him. It doesn't come as easy to me as it probably does to all of you AND I am not the sharpest marble in the jar, so, having such characters is QUITE the challenge.

But that, in and of itself, is what makes it so dang fun! That's what I love. The challenge. Any character can be combat oriented, which is fine if that's what you like, I just find that boring. Not that I don't like the combat part, that's still great, I just prefer the character to have some life to him. There are some of mine that don't, and in combat it's great, but when the fighting stops, I'm like; 'Now what do I do?' I hate that.

Just wanted to say, great game Mythril! You guys(and gal!)are some good posters as well. It's tough to find those that are as dependable.

Moring Day 1 Total earned XP: 12900

Thanks Javell, I'm glad your enjoying the story. That, for me is the most important part. The way the characters interact and deal with the situations they are presented with. I echo you in saying we have a great group of story tellers who are dedicated to the thread. My PC goes out today so It should be back in 7-10 days, give or take a day or two for getting from here to DELL. Once it is back we will get back to the story.

So, markofbane, did you decide to go to PaizoCon this year?

I am. I have Friday off work, and I have events Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, though I'm thinking about giving up the Friday in favor of some of the seminars.

My brother-in-law went last year, and he didn't even know what he was doing. He told us he was going to be in Seattle that weekend, and I said, "That's PaizoCon weekend! You have to go!" He called us from Seattle that Saturday morning and said, "Where do I go now?" and we looked up the address for the hotel and sent him. It was so random. He had a great time, though!

And I was so jealous that I knew all about PaizoCon and wasn't there and he had no clue what was going on and yet was.

Take a look at the Beginner's Box for me!

I will try to get a look. I wasn't able to get a ticket to the banquet (it was sold out), and I have a game during the seminar where they are talking about it. :p

I am still a bit clueless myself about how it runs and what I'll be doing. I want to do some tabletop gaming (something I really haven't been able to do in years ), but there are so many awesome sounding seminars.

Sounds like an awesome time to be had, mob.

Moring Day 1 Total earned XP: 12900

Have fun in Seattle. My Brother-in-Law just moved out there so I hope I will get to hit up a Paizocon in the future.

Also, I got confirmation yesterday that my Laptop is on the way back. I should have it in just a few more days. YEAH!

My brother-in-law I think just did seminars, no gaming. (Of course, he didn't travel with any characters or dice, either.) He just showed up at the door and did whatever was available while he was there and then called us and told us what a great time he was having. He didn't even bring me home a present for telling him about it. ;P

Mythril, YAY for return of laptop! I'll be watching for the game to resume. :)

Hope to have my Laptop back in the next day or two. Looking forward to moving forward with the game.

ITS BACK! Expect an update soon. Thanks everyone for your patience, I needed the DM break and now that my laptop is working I am ready to get the game rolling again. See you in the game thread.

Yay! That's awesome. I didn't think anybody underpromised and overdelivered anymore!

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

I'm curious, Mythril, which carrier did Dell use?

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

UPS ground I think. Once I got the box from them and sent it off I got it back pretty quickly. What took so long was them getting me registered. I never logged on an registered myself as the owner so they had to update the information. That took a week !!!! I don't know why they couldn't just put in my name and address and hit save. They kept telling me the "Tools" were being updated. What I can't figure is why a company as big as DELL would need to update every call center at the same time? I think that I was put on a delay since I wouldn't spend 120 bucks on an extended warranty that was offered to me twice. First by the first call rep who took my call. After I declined he transferred me to someone else. Who offered me the same "deal". I think the first one dumped me since he wasn't going to make a commission and it wasn't worth his time to deal with me. Needless to say I don't think I will ever buy a DELL again. My wife has one and it needed to go back for repair too. And then I got poor customer service when I had to get mine fixed.

Awesome! The arrow incident reminds me of an incident when I was playing GURPS a while back...

Spoiler:
I was playing an archer type character in a fantasy campaign. I called out to our fighter "Step left!" to get a clean line of sight. He didn't, and I took the shot anyway with the penalty. I missed my target, and in GURPS that means you have to roll to hit anyone else in the line of travel of the arrow. I rolled and hit our fighter. Using hit location charts, I hit him in the head. Fortunately. He had a heavy helmet on and it didn't do any damage. Next round, I repeated "Step left!" He was not happy with me. :)

Moring Day 1 Total earned XP: 12900

As a DM I am not fond of critical misses that do major negatives to the party. Typically they will just be dramatically bad misses, but from time to time I might make a judgment call to have a weapon break, or get dropped or some other weird thing happen that I think might progress the role-play some. Here with it being a crowded doorway I figured that the most likely thing to happen is to hit an ally. I picked Brock since he has a lot of hp, and I only made it do 1 pt. I wouldn't let friendly fire kill off a PC. Can't wait to see how the group reacts, and how Victor acts going forward because of this mishap.

I'm sorry but I just died on this one. Where I bolded the word "pops", for a minute there I thought you wrote "poops". Lol!

Which, if you think about it, would be pretty doggone funny! Lol!

(Okay, okay. I'll move along. Sheesh, tough crowd.)

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Ah yes, Victor's plan is slowly coming together. Make enemies of all of his allies and then....and then....I'm not sure. I really don't know what he planned on actually accomplishing with that.

Get his brains beat in by Brock I guess.

Wow.

Now THIS really wasn't a really well thought out plan now was it? :)

Victor has the best of intentions, but the dice roller seems to be giving him some problems, lol.
