I believe escaping a grapple is a Standard Action, markofbane; Eponine should have a move action left to stand up or crawl 5 feet on her turn without provoking an attack of opportunity, thanks to the sanctuary spell.
Victor and Eponine currently occupy spaces that flank the goblin, but Eponine is fighting the other direction. My group dicided that this is not a flank since she dosen't threaten the goblin that Victor is fighting.

Flanking
When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus if your opponent is threatened by another enemy character or creature on its opposite border or opposite corner.
When in doubt about whether two characters flank an opponent in the middle, trace an imaginary line between the two attackers' centers. If the line passes through opposite borders of the opponent's space (including corners of those borders), then the opponent is flanked.
Exception: If a flanker takes up more than 1 square, it gets the flanking bonus if any square it occupies counts for flanking.
Only a creature or character that threatens the defender can help an attacker get a flanking bonus.
Creatures with a reach of 0 feet can't flank an opponent.
My take is that the person in the middle would still be threatened, even if one of the two threatening it has other foes. In this case, if the goblin between Victor and Eponine does anything to draw an AoO, both Eponine and Victor could act on it. Even knowing that Eponine is pushing back against two other foes, is the goblin in the middle really going to ignore her and focus fully on Victor?
It's been said several times on the boards that there are no facing rules in Pathfinder. Characters are considered to threaten all squares in their reach simultaneously. Breaks with verisimilitude and makes the Stealth rules more byzantine, but it eliminates a bit of record-keeping as people don't have to state which way they're facing; they still threaten all 8 squares around them.
From the Attacks of Opportunity section of the PRD:
Quote:
Threatened Squares: You threaten all squares into which you can make a melee attack, even when it is not your turn. Generally, that means everything in all squares adjacent to your space (including diagonally).
Well, the good news is that if we can get out of this place alive, we have to have gotten a level out of it. Heck, as many goblins as are in this place, we might be 3rd level by now! ;)
Sophy is now officially out of cures. She can stop you from dying if you're between -1 and -Con, but apart from that, you're out of luck. So don't get critted any more! :)
NO worries gang, it just helps if the AC and the current hp are in the post also any buffs that might be affecting the character at the time. Saves me from having to look at the Sheets and opening more pages which gets confusing. Thanks for helping me out with that.
Also, this week is looking pretty hectic for papers due and such so my posting might be a bit scattered. I just finished one paper and now have to finish another that is due tomorrow also....it's 1:20AM here.
Sorry players, I just don't have it in me tonight to update the thread. Getting behind on classwork this week and on top of it my Kindergartner was attacked by one of her classmates at school today and we have been dealing with that.
By all means, we'll be here when your ready to pick it up again.
I totally get it. My older grandson, Jacob, is three. Next year he'll be starting kindergarten and I worry because he's a good natured kid that's good with sharing and such. I'm concerned that he'll get walked over. His little brother Graham, however, won't be on the receivingend of trouble...
You never realize how effective something is until you see it in action. Back in 2E, our mages never cast grease because it sounded kind of lame. Then I played Baldur's Gate and saw how effective it was in keeping enemies off you for a few rounds while you take them down with arrows. My mage always learned grease after that.

You know, I've seen color spray used pretty effectively in a few pbp's. I always thought that spell was just as worthless as grease. Again with the "What you don't know until you see it in action" bit. Well, you know, they do say never judge a book by its cover. :P
It's unbelievable, really, how these "worthless" spells/items are pretty dang handy.
The problem I have found with using caltrops (as a DM) is as soon as they are on the floor players go, "Oh caltrops I just have to go half speed and I don't have to worry." Here the AP tricked you with the glass and it took a few rounds of people getting effected to make you think about it. The upside is I think it has made for a much more interesting encounter, and some great post combat role-play as well.
Yeah, rolling 1d3 in this situation for the crossbow toss is fine. I also want to add how much I am enjoying they way you are having Sophy "cast" her spells unknowingly. I think it is making for a great story and some unusual encounter effects. Also great for the role-playing, I just loved reading the exchange between Sohpy, Victor, and Wren when I got up this morning. Keep up the great storytelling!

It's certainly fun while it lasts. Eventually, she'll catch on to what she can do, like she has with the healing, but it takes a while to find the right situations to get through her spell list. Of course, as she levels up and gains new spells, the discovery gets to start all over again!

Is it just the paranoid DM in me or did we get just get xp because there's dangerous things coming up that would have been too tough for 1st level characters? Hmmmm.....
Not to mention, 1st level characters who are all injured, out of healing, and reduced to cantrip usage. I think Eponine was at 5 HP; after level up, she has 6 HP. You sure you don't want to put your favored class bonus in HP, markofbane?
Oracle level 2
HP 1d8 ⇒ 5 + 1 favored class bonus
Will save +1
BAB +1
1 extra 1st-level spell slot per day; 1 extra cantrip known (scrivener's chant)
Skill points 7 (Diplomacy, Heal, Knowledge (dungeoneering, geography, local, nature), Use Magic Device
I'm assuming she won't gain access to her new 1st level spell slot until the next time we rest. I'm not sure of the logic with spontaneous casters.

Yeah. I'm trying to be forward looking with the character and keep the skills up. A BBEG is going to down her in one shot and a mook will down her in two or one lucky; one hit point isn't likely to make the difference. Once we get to a fight, I'll have to be very tactical about it.
I like the min of half for leveling up on HD, so if you rolled under the halfway mark go ahead and adjust up to that. {ex: on a d8 you get a min of 4 hp}

Thanks! I'll make the adjustment in Eponine's profile.
Nothing worse than a fighter rolling minimum hit points. Thanks for being understanding, DM. If Wren had to soak up damage for Victor, that would not be great!

A big fat +1 to that! That's the last thing our "hobbled hero" needs! ;)
