Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Welcome back, Mythril!

Evening Day 1 Total earned XP: 13700

While we are resting go ahead and add 1800 XP, that should give you each a total of 3335 and enough for 3rd level. Go ahead and update your characters to the next level and roll a new HD. Remember when you roll for hp you get at least half the die (ie if you roll a d8 anything less than four give you 4 hp). After resting you will bee fully healed by Father Zantus so go ahead and adjust your current hp to max.

At this point do we want to recruit more players? Does anyone have and suggestions for players, or should I post and open call to look for one or two more?

Unless you're willing to cut down the power level of the bad guys we're facing, from what I hear of this AP, we're going to need a melee guy.

There are several good roleplayers and reliable posters in my Serpent's Skull game, but I know at least one of them is already in a RotRL PbP and I don't know if the others have room for another game. Navior's our DM, and LoreKeeper is a player; they're both very good. Alexander Kilcoyne is a great poster as well, but I think he might be at his PbP limit; he's DMing several. Sigz maybe? I think markofbane and Gerald know him.

EDIT: Eh, when Gerald invited me to join, Sigz said he was in a RL RotRL game, so I guess that leaves him out.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

I'm for avoiding an open call. And personally, I would rather have one more than two. Those Joana mentioned, any of those would be fine with me.

I'll go through and think of one that might stand out to me, and if so, will throw it out there.

Hp's 1d10 ⇒ 4

5 it is! I am totally the half hit point king. :)

(You just thought I was kidding didn't you markofbane.) ;)

Do you mean you want just one player added to the mix?

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

That's what I would prefer. But if you feel we might need two more, then I won't object to it.

As long as they're reliable. That's also why I prefer recruiting than open call.

I know of some good posters, but they're posting consistency leaves a lot to be desired.

That's just me, though.

Yeah, I would prefer we find someone who is active in another thread that shows good consistency like us. Please feel free to let people in your other threads know we are looking to fill a spot. I'd like to have at least one more player just to have more live people to role-play with. I am not as worried about the character types, I don't mind sending NPC's to fill the gaps in the party. Whoever we recruit should feel free to make any character type they want, I don't want to force anyone into playing a tank. I think we definitely need one more player, but if two reliable players express interest than I am okay with adding both. Six would be my max. If we have to resort to an open recruitment then I will only pick one.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Sounds good.

The players Joana mentioned are all real solid. I'll look over some of my other threads and see if anyone looks good.

I can say that Set is a cat that is really solid. He does like to run a lot of casters, but if you don't mind him running whatever, then he would be a good option as well.

I'm in a Kingmaker(same as markofbane) and SD pbp with him.

He's good.

Evening Day 1 Total earned XP: 13700

Point anyone you think might be interested here. All we need is a character who's background will help them integrate with the rest of the party easily. Perhaps somebody tied to one of the PC's backgrounds, or someone that Father Zantus, Sargent Blake knows and could go to and ask to help the PC's. They can chose to just arrive in Sandpoint or have been here for the festival and aftermath.

It sounds like we have a lot of overlap in the players we know and respect. I'll let Joana make the first outreach and then perhaps make some of my own if those don't pan out.

MD, is there any place in Sandpoint where Eponine could get an Elven Curved Blade? If so, she probably knows about it (and has been coveting it), and after this will march straight there.

Eponine storms off... Stupid *$$*!^ &^%$#ers! Need a bigger (*&^)^%$ blade!

Edit: Hit point roll 1d10 ⇒ 3 Half it is!

DM, are Ultimate Magic and/or Combat in play for level-up purposes? Do you have a blanket yes/no, or decide on a case-by-case basis?

Hello!

Joana informed me that you're looking for a new player, so I thought I'd pop in to say I'm interested. Both Joana and Javell know me from other games and can attest to my reliability. I should point out, though, that I have DMed Rise of the Runelords in the past so am familiar with the adventures. I can promise that I won't use any out-of-character knowledge to influence my actions. If this isn't a problem for you, I'd be happy to join.

Just let me know and I'll come up with a character!

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Most definitely! Solid, solid, solid!

If Mythril gives the okay, you know a certain Tengu character comes to mind... ;) :D

Taldor

Also here as Joana asked if I had time for the game. Originally I said no as I have a lot of PbP's but I've been thinking it over and if you'll have me i'd love to play a Halfling Ranger i've had in my mind for a while- also I haven't played or seen any of RotRL so it seems an ideal situation to change that and get in on a game of it :).

That said, although i'll definitely be able to keep up with posting generally the next few weeks i'll likely have to post a little slower than my normal pace. I don't know how free Navior's time is but if hes definitely got the time to spare he'd probably be a better fit.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

I know I mentioned earlier about prefering one than two, but with the other being AK, that's just way too hard to pass up.(In my defense, I did say as long as they were both reliable. You don't get much more reliable than these two cats.)

I say...TAKE 'EM BOTH! TAKE 'EM BOTH! :)

Just sayin.

Great, start working up a character. OOC knowledge is not a problem for me, in fact knowing Sandpoint is useful in helping tie your character to NPC's and having role-play in town. I am looking for ways to change the AP so that it will be different for any who are familiar with it. I have run the first book three times now and all have been different.

To make a character use the following guidelines:

20pt Buy
3rd level
No Free bonus feat per the Players Guide (You may select from these feats with your normal slots if you would like)
Choose 2 character traits instead
Starting HP is equal to Max HD + Con + 4 free hp Roll for level 2 and 3 with a minimum of 1/2 a HD earned. (meaning if your die is d8 and you roll less then four it becomes a four)
I would prefer sticking to the main classes available in the PDR
I am open to alternate races if it can be done easily while keeping the balance of the game and can be explained with a good role-play reason.
I will let you start with Max Gold for a first level Character, and you may use it to purchase magical items with in reason.
We are using the FAST TRACK for XP so while they are now third level they don't have a lot of found treasure yet so you will be on par with the group.

If you are very familiar with the AP I suggest making a character who is from Sand Point and perhaps knows one/some of the AP's major NPC's well. I will assume that everyone is familiar with the Players Guide. Also you can look in my Profile for info on the current PC's that you might know or want to have a in character connection to.

The Swallow Tail festival was four days ago, feel free to read/skim the adventure thread titled "Desnas Chosen" to help flush out a background.

Welcome to the game....Any Questions??

All I ask is that you try to post at least once each day, and let me know if you might have trouble because of work, school, family. I don't mind the occasional DM intervention post to keep thing moving along, and we are open to taking breaks from the game when schedules demand. I'd like to see you both join us so go ahead and generate a ranger using the guidelines I posted in a reply to Navior.

Can I suggest you are friends (apprentice?) of an elf ranger woman named Shalelu. The party has met her, and she can be a tie in for a ranger to the party. Just a suggestion, feel free to be as creative as you desire.

I think that the elven curve blade is supposed to be rare, so I don't think you'd find one easily in Sandpoint.

I don't have those books, so I would prefer sticking to anything on the PRD, or if you know of another reliable online source for the specs of spells, powers, feats, gear ect. That is cool too.

Male Human

If I may interject in order to point out that the Ultimate Magic book is on the PRD?

There, interjection done. Carry on with having fun please. :-)

Wow and it's been there an entire month and I didn't even notice. Bestiary 2 as well. Cool. Then Yes! You can use it.

Thanks F. Castor for pointing that out.

Working on my halfling now should be up in a profile in the next few hours. Looking forward to gaming with you all.

DM:

Haven't had time to peruse the game thread much yet but I have the players guide to RotRL open in front of me- what favoured enemy recommendations could you make?

Awesome! Happy to be back in a game with AK, and I have noticed Navior on the boards quite a bit as well. Great additions to the party!!

It might be a day or so before I can update Wren. I've got company for a few days, so I will be around a bit less until Saturday afternoon. I'll get Wren done before then, though.

Well, we're all availing ourselves of those therapy sessions now (except for Wren, who's sublimating it all). Too bad we haven't actually found any treasure yet to pay him.

DM:

I've got a favoured terrain too- whats the local geography around Sandpoint like? Is Plains a reasonable choice?

Belril Leokas wrote:

Long story short: Sophy's an overemotional basket case; Wren has a chip on her shoulder; Eponine has a death wish; and Victor keeps getting caught with his pants down and leaving his weapons behind. :)

Belril:

For favored enemy the obvious is goblinoid, there are several tribes of goblins hanging about the area. If you have a concept for an undead hunter, or demon slayer go that way. What ever you want is cool with me.

Sandpoint is in Varisia, terrains are varied. Plains would be good, so would mountains or forest. There is even a swamp nearby if that fits your concept better.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

You know, AK, Joana really couldn't have explained it any better. That pretty much does sum it up.

But in his defense, Victor was only caught with his pants down once!

Well, um, at least, so far, anyway. Heh. Heh. *Looks around nervously, wiping the sweat from his brow.* (Ummm, yeah. He's doomed.)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Fighter (Weapon Master) 5

My character is started and I should have it finished in the next couple of hours. He's the brother (or cousin or other relation if you feel that would be more appropriate) of Savah Bevaniky, who runs Savah's Armory in Sandpoint.

Rolling for level 2 and 3 hit points:
Level 2: 1d10 ⇒ 4
Level 3: 1d10 ⇒ 9
Level 2 roll bumps up to 5 and the level 3 roll is really nice!

I haven't had a chance to read through the game thread yet, but will do so soon.

I am going to reconsider this point, you don't know for sure but if anyone in Sandpoint carries a curved elven blade it would be Savah's Armory. Thanks to the new PC I just re read the description of her shop and if you want to go there in the morning to roleplay finding one I am cool with that.

That works great for a weapons master. I am cool with brother, that gives you a good reason to care about the town. The big question is where were you during the raid on Sandpoint? Where you out of town, just come home to find this, or were you fighting goblins in another part of town and just didn't get recognized for your heroic efforts like the other PC's?

Evening Day 1 Total earned XP: 13700

To make things easy, both of the new characters will start with the same XP as the main group, 3335. I was originally going to have them start a 3300 with the thought that the original cast might level first, but since the margin is so small I am not going to worry about it and keep it simple.

I was thinking he's just arrived back in town. He spends a lot of time out of Sandpoint doing supply runs for his sister. He had hoped to be back in time for the Swallow Tail Festival, but was delayed on the road. Getting back now, he's rather shocked and dismayed to learn of what has happened.

His stats are pretty much done. I'll get his background written out later this evening.

I like that, make's sense as to why he wasn't involved four nights ago when the goblins raided. Was he coming back from Magnimar, Riddleport, or someplace else. What caused the delay...could be some side adventure fodder in there :).

Mythril:

Some help on that would be appreciated as I know very little about Sandpoint itself. So far I have a strong young halfling, an ex-slave freed by the Eagle Knights a few years ago in Andoran. Having learnt a little from his rescuers, hes been taken on as an apprentice by Shalelu and essentially has learnt all he can from her and is ready for greater challenges.

Hes always eager to prove 'the bigger they are the harder they fall' and his feat choice heavily reflects this. I'm going to have him Chaotic Good and a worshipper of Talmandor- who's not strictly a deity in himself but is the Andoran patron and a servant of Erastil, Iomedae and Shelyn.

He will be using a halfling sling staff and has bought various specialised halfling bullets, but is meant to be reasonably competent in melee as well as ranged combat. I've gone with the Guide archetype which i'm hoping won't step on Eponine's toes too much.

I'm also hoping that as Belril is able to reload his sling as a free action you'll allow him access to archery only feats such as Manyshot down the line- essentially loading two sling bullets instead of one for the many shot.

What else should I include to tie him in?

HP rolls-

1d10 ⇒ 8

1d10 ⇒ 3

Navoir, I've seen you around the boards and it will be nice to have a game with you. Welcome!

And AK, I'm looking forward to having another game with you. I think you'll find Eponine quite different from Krenn... Joana's summary pretty much covers what you need to know to get up to speed, but it still might be an entertaining read. :)

Belril:
Andoran is a pretty far distance from Varisia. I like the ex-slave idea, perhaps he could have been held by a faction in Kaer Maga:

This anarchic cliff-top city is built inside the ruins of an ancient fortress. While most of its residents are content to live in the city’s soaring towers and hollow walls, Kaer Maga’s surface structures are just the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the bustling markets, an intricate network of dungeons, tunnels, and complexes extends down through the Storval Ridge, and perhaps even farther. Although the top few levels have been frequently inhabited and remodeled by various daring organizations, incursions by the dangerous creatures that inhabit the lower reaches led the city to establish the Duskwardens, charged with seeking out and sealing all entrances to the greater catacombs. Even so, the depths of Kaer Maga remain uncharted and hold a powerful allure for foolhardy adventurers.

Additionally Varisia’s most notorious city, Kaer-Maga perches atop one of the highest runs of the Storval Rise, overlooking the verdant lands to the south. Built into and onto the ruins of an immense Thassilonian fortress, the denizens of Kaer-Maga enjoy anarchy in its purest form. All manner of strange factions hold court in Kaer-Maga’s halls, from the bloodthirsty bloatmages to the militant monks of the Brothers of the Seal to the grisly augurs—troll soothsayers who use their own entrails to prophesize with questionably accuracy.

He could have been rescued by a Pathfinder Society member and introduced to Shelalu.

If you want to do the Andoran location we just need to figure out how he got moved so far from his original home, which I am cool with. I just though I show you some info from closer to the adventure local to give you some ideas.

Mythril:

I had a look at Kaer Maga but the traits I have chosen are both Andoran and really complement the character- I figured having learnt his first level of ranger from the Eagle Knights hes just found himself wandering further into the northern wilderness until he eventually wound up in Varisia. The Varisian people and way of life would definitely have appealed to him.

If its a problem then we'll go with being introduced to Shelalu and coming from Kaer Maga. I did consider that location originally.

Edit: The traits I am referring to are Equality for All and Freed Slave.

Edit: This profile now has a stat block for Belril.

And don't forget your bonus 4 hp from 1st level!

Sophy's profile is updated for level 3. I took one spell, forbid action, from Ultimate Magic, and one other, unbreakable heart, from the Inner Sea World Guide. It was also in the old Gods & Magic. It's not in the PRD but is here at d20pfsrd.com.

Saw the half HP thing already, missed the 4 bonus HP thanks. When you say for first level HP 'Max HD + Con' I assume you mean con modifier rather than con score (the standard, basically)? I've assumed so. Total HP 33.

I am cool with you wandering up from Andoran, I still like a connection to Shelalu. You could have come come across her in your wanderings and being like minded ranger types became friends. You could have wandered around a bit with her as she showed you around the Hinterlands. Does that sound okay?

Yes that is full first HD + the bonus earned from CON + 4 freebie DM hp, then min of half a die from that point on.

Reminder, I opted against the bonus feat per the RotRL players guide and gave two traits instead. Did you buy Big Game Hunter with one of your class Feats? You can do that if you want.

Would you include a synopsis of your Background in your profile for all the players to see too. Looking good I will get you introduced into the thread soon, be looking for a spoiler with your name on it.

I have posted intro posts for the new characters. They are joining the events on the evening of the fourth day. I'd like to have some more evening interaction posts to finish up the role-play that is going on, and allow them to get introduced and then we will pick up with the next morning.

My apologies for the delay in getting Kern's background posted. Yesterday ended up a much busier day than I expected. I'll have the background up soon.
