Lady Rosa Luminnuss |
Rosa dos not show her face, under her hood she looks on keeping still.
Worrying the child now may louse them tactical information.
She did how ever need to know one thing.
"We are contracted to find your father alive if possible, Tarphesh here has that right. I am one to for-full my contracts so I will do all I can. How ever If you do not mind, I would like to know something. Have others been to talk to you about finding your father or heading into the hill? If so who? and when?"
Her voice is even and level asking politely.
Linpul |
Standing up, Linpul checks out the damage to the robot and whistles.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 I'm looking for anything odd, or a key card. Something that will help us out.
"Not two, there's a third hiding around here somewhere. Regardless, I don't think it's getting back up anymore. Think we can scrap it for parts? That or we can study it for a bit. About Mr. Baine, I think he's might be stuck in a vault or just trapped, even the most powerful of wizards need the help of adventurers sometimes. Tar and I will head underneath the city, you stay here until we get back, for all we know Mr. Baine could come wandering back as well."
GM Demonmoose |
"Well, they are the ones who just took out the robot so I say we give them the benefit of the doubt. The odd lady just promised miss Fredert she'd find dad and she's one to keep her word I think." He gave his two companions a concerned look followed by a smile. They'd have to do.
Val nods. "Well, you can use the tavern as a base of operations. Or a place to sleep. Just don't touch the ale or wine. Dad said we were running a little low this month, and he said he wasn't sure when we'd get another shipment."

Val tries to look under your hood, more inquisitive than she is afraid. She clears her throat, "Zanzil Trett came, but he always checks whenever Dad brings any salvage back. He deals with a lot of technological goods. Oh, he's a wandering merchant. Rumors say that he does black market dealings, but I think keeping any gadgets out of the Technic League is a good thing. That's all."

Val says, "Well, it was pretty beat up before, but after the old man and the weird woman got to it, I don't think there's anything to salvage. I told you Linnie, I couldn't get it to work. The silverdisks inside were burnt out, and I couldn't get them out. Not with the extraction tool, or the pliers. I even tried breaking them with the hammer."
Linpul |
Examining the burnt out batteries, Linpul tries a quick spell to see if she can pop them loose.
0 level spell, mending. Trying to see if she can restore hp to the object and fix it to get the overclocked battery if not oh well. And if the robot tries to get up the beetle will put it down, but I don't think an hp restore spell can restore a robot to active from demolished.
"A quick fix up might get us the battery or a handy net launcher."
GM Demonmoose |
Val looks at Rosa, "Our house is his workshop, mostly. But it is a mess. The only thing he brought back from his first expedition was the robot you destroyed. She gives a little smirk.
Mending the power core, the batteries slide out with little effort. Despite the spell, you can see the circuits of the silverdisks are blackened beyond repair. Normally when a silverdisk runs out of energy, it no longer shines a faint bluish light but nothing happens to the circuitry.
Val looks over at Linpul and opens her mouth wide. "That's no fair, Linnie! I still haven't learned my first spell yet!"
Linpul takes out the whole net-throwing attachment. With a little work, you think it can turn into a net gun of some sort.
Rakdon goes to the tavern, reaches up at the bar to get a bottle of ale and surrounds it with magical light. It doesn't have any magical properties, except for loosening lips and serving as a depressant.
Dr. Lendaro |
"Good steady hands... " Dr Lendaro nods repeatedly delivering a rare compliment as Linpul deconstructs the "advanced" construct.
"Of course I suppose that is more common among gnomes than it is for a human such as myself."
"I trust you have no issue with me following our new talking rodent into your family establishment. I will not interfere with the mess to which you made mention." Not a question... he enters behind Rakdon, and sits writing notes about what he had just witnessed... starting with terminology used by Linpul he had yet to fully understand.
Linpul |
"Oh hush Val, you know as well as I do that spells do not mean everything. As such I don't think I can get this net gun working. Anybody want to try their hand?"
Tracing her slim fingers along the circuitry Linpul has an idea that the device has been tampered with. But how?

Linpul |
Thinking about the robot and where her father always brought things to. Putting her tiny hand to her angular chin she grabs the broken off net launcher attachment.
"Well maybe Mr. Trett can help us out. I'm sure he'd be willing to help us out. Maybe we can trade him this net gun for some information. Well mostly intact net gun."
As an afterthought she pockets the silverdisks.
If anybody has ranks in craft (technology) now's the time to use it. I'm no good at it netting at most a +1 with a guidance spell no pun intended.
GM Demonmoose |
"You're going to see Mr. Trett?" Val says, grabbing one of Linpul's hands. "He knows quite a lot, but not as much as Dad."
She gives you a big smile, "Do you think I could come along? He has so many cool gadgets and doodads, but Dad never lets me buy anything, or talk to him."
Val opens her eyes as wide as she can, until you can see your face reflected in them.
Linpul |
Looking up at Val, Linpul can't make the decision on her own. The tiny gnome shrugs her shoulders.
We shouldn't be doing this but we have to. I certainly hope the ends justify the means.
"I don't see why not, but Tar has the last say in this one. If he says it's fine, then we all go together. What do you say green machine?"
GM Demonmoose |
Assuming GM control.
Tarphesh seems hesitant to let Val come along. She's his little sister so its good if she's close, but the young Kellid girl is also a troublemaker and he doesn't like Sanvil much for some reason. Maybe it's because the traveling merchant is too nice.
1-33 Val goes to meet with Sanvil Trett. 34-100 Val stays at home.
Tarphesh's Decision: 1d100 ⇒ 19
"Fine," Tarphesh grumbles. "But you stay close where I can see you. And don't touch any of his wares."
Val skips along as you head to the Market Square. You see various stalls of differing merchandise, but what stands out is one particular stall belonging to this man. Sanvil Trett
His stall has all sorts of technological gadgets. It is unknown where he gets all his items, though rumors say he does a lot of black market trading.
He smiles as you approach. "Ah, you must be the next set of expeditioners. Going off to save our very precious Khonnir Baine. I hope that you are successful and that you can bring me back some interesting trinkets."
Sanvil gives a slight bow.
"How can I help you?"
Linpul |
Eyeing the man, Linpul seems to have lost most of her cheery disposition. She came to deal and didn't want any haggling or misdirection. She wants to find her father. Linpul wasn't too much a fan of the markets, she preferred to find the technology she experimented on herself or the training equipment Khonnir Baine would give her.
"Oh can it Sanvil, you know most of us. And yes we came to see if you had any information on the caves and Baine. And no, we didn't come empty handed."
I am going to assume we brought some kind of cart along with us and put the robot in and covered it's broken body with a tarp of some kind.
Tarphesh |
"We're going in after dad and we want to know what you know about those caves." "And look over your wares to see if there is anything particularly useful" Tarphesh added in his mind, no use saying that out loud to the pompous windbag.
GM Demonmoose |
Sanvil peeks underneath the tarp. "Ah, a very broken Repair Drone. A pity that it can't repair itself. Well, at least not in this condition."
The merchant looks away from the drone, quickly losing interest in the salvage.
"You should bring the salvage to the smiths, maybe they can gather some bit of usable metal." He smiles. "I did contact each of the expeditionary groups and they all agreed to show me what they found. However, none of them returned except for Councilman Khonnir's group. They brought back a few silverdisks, which are now in my possession, and some pharmaceuticals, but nothing too interesting."
He sighs. "It's a shame he hasn't come back. I'm very curious to see what's beyond the large metal wall."
Linpul |
Eyeing the silver pen, Linpul points to it. You never know when a zip stick could come in handy.
"Ms. Rosa, you said you'd be willing to pay 20gp to those that came with you to find Mr. Baine. While neither myself not Tar has taken it, we could use one of these. On average they run for that much."
GM Demonmoose |
Sanzil nods. "A good choice, young gnome. And here," he pulls out a small object from his pockets. It is a circular roll of wound paper-like material colored red. The merchant hands it to Rosa.
"As a bonus, some ion tape. It is particularly useful when used in conjunction with that zipstick." He flashes a smile at Rosa. "I hope you will also keep me in mind when you return from your expedition. I am very, very curious as to what sorts of treasures you might find there. And I can reward you handsomely for such tidbits of knowledge."
He opens his coat for a second, revealing stacks of silverdisks, and bags that look like coinpurses. Then as quickly, he adjusts the folds of his clothes.
"Good luck."
Dr. Lendaro |
Dr Lendaro's head was full of questions as he looked over the merchant's stall. At the same time he was desperate to find something to arise - some way to display his intellect. Hungry ego... slim coin purse... little way to show how brilliant he was...
"A pistol away from being useless.. a burden..."
The excitement of discovering new technology was eclipsed by the thought of others seeing him struggle with it. "... the old man... Bah! My time will come."
"Thank you for your assistance, we will be sure to return when we require more .. of these .. things." He nods a farewell to Mr Trett.
He then leaned against the cart, with his pen tip hovering beside the loosely defined (and vaguely understood) term in his journal - waiting for Linpul's response to Lady Rosa.

Nodding in thanks to the tiefling Linpul walks back to the Dr. Seeing the look of concern on his face the little gnome has an idea. Staring up at the Dr she knows he can at least fix some things, he'll find a better use for the ion tape and zipstick. She grabs his hand and thrusts the ion tape and zip stick into it.
"Here, you take these. They are used for putting things together, and I'm only good at taking things apart. I can even show you how they work if you'd like. Rather simple really."
Pointing to the zipstick she instructs.
"This is called a zipstick, it can deliver a small electrical charge to get some things started or activate some items. It doesn't leave any lasting damage, a bruise at most but still be careful with it. All you have to do is press this button here and it will work. It can hold about 10 charges or so before you need to fill it up again with these"
Linpul holds up her spare batteries and then moves on to the ion tape.
"This is called ion tape, at best right now it can hold some paper together but if you wrap something up and give it a little zip the tape will bond together and form a nearly unbreakable bond that can support well over two hundred pounds! It's AMAZING! In the past I've pushed it over, I think it broke at around three hundred pounds of pressure. General rule, if it moves and it shouldn't move tape it."
Dr. Lendaro |
Dr Lendaro accepts the items, and nods. As she explains he nods repeatedly as he gets a handle on their workings. "Excellent."
He feels an involuntary smile come to his face. The small gesture was anything but small to him. He speaks to Linpul with his mind. Sincerity always came out wrong when spoken from his lips.
"Thank you, and your enthusiasm is music to my ears."
GM Demonmoose |
"Silverdisks are 100 gp, the Torpinal-ah this is mislabeled, it should be Vitality Serum-is 500 gp, Universal is 400 gp, and the skillslot with the engineering skillchip is worth 2000 gp. I know, still out of your price range at the moment."
Sanvil frowns. "Perhaps at a later time. Oh, the silverdisks that you asked about Miss Rosa, give their energy to technological items. They are 'batteries' like how a longbow needs arrows."
He stretches out his hands as though about to make a bow. "Also, if your compatriots have trouble identifying any of the technological items you find, please bring them to me, and I will reveal their hidden mysteries, for free of course."
GM Demonmoose |
Sanvil Trett looks at Rakdon. "You seem hesitant to talk to me, Sir Hamster. Is there something wrong with my goods?"
He raises an eyebrow and gives a smile.
Dr. Lendaro |
Dr Lendaro nods in silent thanks to the merchant Sanvil, then turns to the group "Anywhere else before we get started?" - though he allows a sliver of his attention with Sanvil's question to Rakdon, and fighting the impulse to distance himself from whatever might come out of the curious creature's mouth.
"The wares I cannot afford in this stall alone is incentive enough for me to earn my share of our reward."
Lady Rosa Luminnuss |
Or 3 find one of the group that came back and talk to them before we do 1 or 2
Rosa looks at the other, non had coin to bet the traders things.
"We should go find one Councilman Khonnir's group, they came back. I want to know how and why they did, the real reason, not what was spun in that meeting. Once we have that information we can go see this Joram Kyte at the Temple of Brigh to get the water breathing"
Linpul |
I vote for option 1, let's go get a water breathing spell cast on us from the temple.
Putting a hand to her head she shuts her eyes and looks up at the Dr.
"Don't do that without asking, I like my thoughts to myself thank you, now onto other things at hand. We should head to the temple of Brigh. I go there whenever I hear word that the temple has a new toy so I can show you the way."
Looking to Val and the robot on the cart the little gnome sighs.
"Val, you go on home with the cart, we'll let you know as soon as we get back alright?"
GM Demonmoose |
Val jumps a little, surprised. She was reaching for something in Sanvil's stall before Linpul spoke to her.
"Oh, I know the answer to that,"She says looking at the tiefling. "The same people went on Dad's first and second expeditions, so I don't think you'll find anyone to talk to."
She sighs, makes a slight pouty face and sighs again.
"Fine, Linnie. I'll go back like a good girl. Just bring me back something cool from the caves, and also find Dad."
She gives a hug to Tarphesh and Linpul before pushing the cart back to that Foundry Tavern. She looks tiny compared to the cart, but looks like she pushes it without any effort.
GM Demonmoose |
You head to the Temple of Brigh in search of Joram Kyte, priest of Brigh. Linpul leads you East from the Town Market to one of the bases of Black Hill.
Bronze wind chimes and clockwork statues decorate the domed portico of this compound dedicated to the goddess of invention.
An old man wearing strange gadgets tucked into machinist leathers and holding an equally strange metallic staff approaches you. White hair frames his balding face. "Welcome to the Temple of Brigh, goddess of invention and technology. How can I help you, young ones?"
Lady Rosa Luminnuss |
As they walk again through the town Rosa strides eyes looking ahead.
as the walk to the temple she says, more to herself than anyone.
"Brigh is the goddess of invention, her following is small. I was once told some of her followers see her as the personification of their chosen form, that of a construct. They say her worshipers wear a single toothed gear as a holy symbol. She is a Neutral God but some who follow her are evil or lawful. I have little time for Evil that lacks discipline, well we shall see what he is like."
Then when he comes out as they get there, Rosa stops and looks at the priest.
"Young?, you might be surprised at just how old I am Priest."
She then go's over to the tall with items on it, looking over what is there
GM Demonmoose |
Rosa sees a wide-barreled pistol with a single canister that seems to be attached (300 gp, and labeled 'flare gun'), several scrolls of different magics (find traps, lesser restoration, and resurrection) and a wand with a spell you haven't heard of before (rebuke technology). (It all looks to be out of her price range at the moment.)
There is also a few common items like silverdisks and mundane adventuring equipment, but none of it catches the tiefling's eye.

Dr Lendaro fingercombs his hair in attempt to undo what work the wind had done to make him look rather ridiculous, before stepping up to the priest of Brigh.
"Good day. We are more than casual perusers today, good merchant priest. We have been issued a quest by Dolga Freedert of the town council to seek out Khonnir Baine and rekindle the flame. We were led to believe a holy man of this temple would see to providing us with the ability to breathe underwater."
He turns to the group "Bah... what was the name again?"
Tarphesh |

Tarphesh gives Val a kiss on the forehead as they say good bye, "You'll be safer at the inn Val, we don't want you to get hurt. If we have any news you'll be the first to hear it."
----
"You mean father Joram Kyte, he the one standing before you old man." The last part was said more jokingly than dismissive though it was quite clear that the failing memory of the old man did entertain him.
GM Demonmoose |
Joram Kyte smiles. With time we lose the things that are precious to us. I am indeed Joram Kyte and can provide you with water breathing."
He strokes a feminine mask with a symbol scratched on its forehead.
"Hello, Tarphesh and Linpul. It is grave news that your father is missing. It seems the whole town is falling apart without him."
Linpul |
I'm going to start with on the way to the temple then break it up from there. Might be a long one, but I'll try to make it short.
Skipping ahead of the group, Linpul leads the way to the temple. During Lady Rosa's explanation the gnome rolls her eyes.
My people have a very different view thank you very much.
Spinning around she sticks her tongue out before arriving at the temple.
----------------
Linpul peruses the shelves of the temple looking for anything new. Well the scrolls of rebuke technology were new, the ratkin (ratfolk kin?) Might enjoy those. The smell of oil and the sounds of whatever machinations were in the walls of the church filled the tiny gnome.
"Ugh, I hage watches. I can always take 'em apart, and then it takes me the better half of a week to get it back together and working and I still have a spring or a cog leftover. And yes Father Kyte, without Mr. Baine the town seems to be breaking apart at the joints. He was the oil that kept them limber and moving forward. We heard you could cast a spell of water breathing on us? Would you be able to get one for Tetsuda as well?"
