Paizo was down when I tried posting. Ate up some of my posts.

Game Masters and Dungeon Masters have weird moments like that all the time. Like making characters they will never play, or adventures they will never run.

On that note, I finally got my group to play L5R 4th edition. Only 3 people, 2 are enjoying it, 1 is not enjoying it, but he's usually the chaotic neutral person who doesn't like seeing the consequences of his actions bite him in the behind.

Lol, yeah I GM too for two real life friends. I spend far too long working on stuff that my player's won't ever see or as Linpul says reading about game systems my group will never play.

We finally started a Trail of Cthulhu game, and have played one session about a month ago. It's a total change of pace to anything we have done previous (D&D 3.5, Dark Heresy and Pathfinder) and really hope we can continue... currently 4 months of weekly sessions into Way of the Wicked and they are loving it however.

What is L5R like? I've never played any edition or seen anything of it, but both of my players are Japan fanboys.

Also regarding your last gameplay post Linpul, I saw that you made a Concentration check to cast a spell, even though the enemy was blinded.

Is this something you think worthwhile for all spellcasting, even if no AoO presents itself?

I worry already that my posts and dice rolls take up too much space, but maybe it's worth adding for completeness?

Mostly an I don't know what else could be lurking within the walls kind of thing. So cast defensively with a DC of 17.

As for L5r it's a very interesting game. One where I am trying to get my players to take a more proactive approach to their game. It is also very backwards during character creation.

Example, in Pathfinder if you want to be say a member of the Pathfinder society you have to say you are and possibly take a trait depending on the gm. Higher organizations etc are all determined based on how you play etc. In L5r everybody is a member of a larger family and clan. Example, one of my players wanted to play a bushi (warrior) and looked through the different clans and families and said "I am going to be a member of the Phoenix Clan, and a member of the Shiba family. My upbringing was as a bushi so I was trained at the Shiba Bushi School with an emphasis on being a yojimbo." So because of that he gets his school ability, school skills and a pool of points to build his character with.

Huh that is kind of strange. I don't think I've played a game that functions in that way at all, so don't really have anything to compare it to.

If you wouldn't mind keeping Solaria going, and you don't mind, I am getting used to the new job and despite not being able to access the Internet until after or before work, I would really like to rejoin the game. I am busy this week getting ready for PaizoConUK next weekend. Then I have a couple of absences in August, holiday and a trip to MotoGP when it hits Silverstone in UK.

Been to the last 3 or 4, this year I'm GMing a couple of sessions and playing the others. It really is a good weekend of fun. Shame you aren't closer, I'm along the south coast in Portsmouth. If you make it next year, we'll get together and should be able to swing you into the same game with me, either playing or GMing.

It's the only Con I make annually, there's a couple of other I might turn up at, but always make PaizoConUK if I have the budget.

The only in person games I get to do from where I'm at is 5th addition. I want to go back to 3.5 or Pathfinder, but finding a group that does those things in my area is hard. At least 5th addition is adventures league that I do in person, because I can't play homebrews. I've tried, I don't enjoy homebrews regardless of what DM there is. I like a well told story, and official Paizo or Wizards stuff is the best. Sometimes 3rd party stuff too, but not all that much.

What is adventurer's league, is it like Pathfinder Society play?

You say that you don't enjoy homebrews, but do you mean entire homebrew settings?

Like if someone ran their own campaign in the Golarion setting of Pathfinder, you'd try it? Or literally you don't enjoy running anything that isn't an official scenario, module or adventure path?

I mean entire homebrew settings. Modified APs that have homebrewing to them, still have a set or a modified formula and still have a fair mix between roleplay and combat and allows you to roleplay as much or as little as you'd like. But if an AP is going to have homebrew to it, as long as I don't see flying zombies without the means of technology, or the ability to shoot lasers out of ones eyes that do 8d6 fire dmg at level one. And High-Tech Guns in an AP would be okay if I was warned about this ahead of time.

Curse of the Coral Throne for example is something I would play, if I was into aquatic games.

Adventures League for D&D is like PFS, only the rules are much different. You don't get a set amount of gold, so you have to actually search for it all, then divide up the gold amount.

Yeah I get what you mean with flying zombies and random eye lasers! My initial reaction to Iron Gods / Technology Guide was "Thanks but no thanks." but that quickly passed and my interest was piqued.

Reign of Winter still puts me off though, that's just too far out there!

The list looks good! That works out to 3,872gp each to spend if we want to split it 7 ways. Is that how we are going to handle it?

Thera has pretty much nothing but the clothes on her back atm, and Solaria has gear + extra cash, so I must have missed something. I'll go back and check through everything I guess.

If it helps, her gold total is 5289gp and her gear value is 4300gp or so.

As per Wealth by Level she should have around 10,500 gp, which is probably accurate when you add the wands and scrolls we aren't selling.


You can be cutthroat and divide Solaria's money. She will be with you for this final dungeon, but won't be staying for the next book. Or maybe buy her a wand so you have some extra heals.

Well I mean I'm all for having Solaria come back once Deevor is ready... but obviously it's your campaign Demonmoose!

I'd rather not gouge her gear / loot though from a roleplaying perspective. It seems wrong not to give her a fair share along with the rest of us, whether she is leaving in character or not.

Yep, can no longer flurry with full BAB like a Monk can. Really bites them in the ass.


Unless there's some recent errata, sacred fist flurry should be the same as monk flurry. It says on the SRD and PRD that its exactly the same as the monk ability.

I'm getting sent up to the Wauwatosa, WI for a couple of days, so just bot Linpul in where needed. Shield plus her verminous aspect should jump her AC by +4, if she is trying not to get hit total defense for another +4, if she needs to attack or do something use her last 2nd level spell of the day as a bull's strength or Gusting Sphere. All of my statistics should be in my stat block, as well as Tetsuda's.

Solaria will carry the notebook found in Hellion's priests possessions, unless some has a real desire to do so. Being an unholy text, Solaria would want to protect her friends from its evil.
