GM Demonmoose |
You remember some tidbits about Furkas Xoud. He was a wizard and temporary member of the Technic League. He stole robots and technology things from the Technic League before settling in his smoke tower. This was many, many years ago. He should be dead several times over.
It seems to be like obscuring mist, but it also is dealing negative energy damage to people inside the smoke.
(6) Furkas.
Astra Picard |
"He tried to become incorporeal, that much we know. He sought something in the ruin of the Aurora to gain that knowledge. Tell me, Xoud, did you find Casandalee before Unity's agents did, by any chance? They were looking for her there, but they failed to find her. Did you steal her away? Did she have something to do with your transformation?"

Furkas bothers to give a villainous monologue even though you cannot seem him through the fog. "I sought immortality. I searched for it through the technology of the ruins and was rewarded when my body was consumed by nanites. I turned into this, and yet, my mind is not complete. I cannot focus on my work-I must remedy this situation. Perhaps it is all the interruptions of late, foolish creatures that intrude upon my lair. I found this Casandalee that you sought and have already plumbed her body of its knowledge. But the knowledge I found would not lead to what I desired."
You can dispel the smoke using dispel magic, gust of wind, or similar wind spells, and fireball and similar fire spells.
Uriah feels his blade strike and be deflected by the coils of smoke that surround Furkas Xoud's body. The wizard seems unaffected by Uriah's attack.
6 Furkas Xoud.
Enemy turn.
GM Demonmoose |
Furkas seems to heal from being inside the smoke as more of it surrounds his body. He takes a step back and casts a spell on himself, forming images of himself in his position.
Everyone's turn.
I'm assuming Ibuki spoke and then moved out of the smoke.
Smoke damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 negative energy damage.
Smoke damage to Uriah.
1 Furkas Xoud
Astra Picard |
Astra watches Xoud's strategy and narrows her eyes. That mist is harming us and healing him... "Mr. Lewis, we don't want to fight him in that cloud! I'm starting to concur with Elizabeth's initial instinct -- we may want to retreat!" At least a few steps...enough to try to get him out of that terrain advantage. Astra returns to the entrance hallway, and tries to kick open the other door, to the south, to see if that leads to the same room, or a different room. She makes sure to keep a solid hold of her ghost touch sword, in case Xoud tries to make inappropriate advances against her, but for now, she's playing defensive instead of offensive, and holds back instead of trying to get in melee.
Moved my token two steps south, to the door that I would like to try opening.

Someone needs to magic up a way out of this...
GM Demonmoose |
Astra opens the southern door and finds a pair of robots wielding warhammers and large shields. They do not look like gearsmen but a different model of construct. As soon as she opens the door, the robots' eyes gleam red.
This wedge-shaped room contains several storage racks and crates, as well as a sickly odor. A door leads to the north and a large alcove to the southwest contains a wrought iron spiral staircase, leading up.
Ibuki's magic dispels the strange smoke in the room, leaving only Furkas.
Robots will act on Furkas' initiative.
Chakos and Syvlara's turn.
Chakos Hyluan |
Ok, let me see, that first attack I think we took:
Ibuki - 17
Liz - 40
Astra* - 34
Chakos - 23
Syvlara* - 23
Uriah* - 23
Astra healed Chakos for 22
I Life Linked and channeled, which should have us at:
Ibuki - 11
Liz - 34
Astra* - 23
Chakos - 6
Syvlara* - 12
Uriah* - 12
Uriah took smoke damage and Liz drank a potion.
Ibuki - 11
Liz - 24
Astra* - 23
Chakos - 6
Syvlara* - 12
Uriah* - 17
Ok. So this round I Life Link again, and the LOH for:
LOH: 3d6 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) + 2 + 6 = 21 On me if no mercies needed
Ibuki - 11
Liz - 24
Astra* - 18
Chakos - 0
Syvlara* - 7
Uriah* - 12
Chakos casts bless weapon on his axe, and moves back into the fight 20'.
Can somebody move me? Astra, obviously I'm uninjured now, but the Life Link will get me next round, and I will need to use my swift action to smite.
Astra Picard |
Astra will prepare for next round to delay to go after Chakos' turn and heal him then. If you take 15 damage that's a pain, because it's a bit high for Cure Light, but Cure Moderate will go over and have some healing wasted. Eh, counting in Fey Foundling, I think Light will be enough. Do you need Line of Sight for Life Link? Elizabeth is in the worst condition now. If I die, someone make sure to grab my ghost touch sword because it will hopefully be able to hurt Xoud. ;) It's also got adamantine for the robots. Syvlara, would you like me to hand over the sword for this fight? I may have my hands full spellcasting.
Chakos Hyluan |
It takes a standard action to set a Link, that's why I have them set before combat. Changing in combat is tough. If I only have 15 damage, I can probably survive that, so do whatever is best otherwise.
Astra Picard |
Gotcha, I'm thinking we might have a tough fight on our hands so it might be smart to drop Good Hope as early as possible, before going healer. Although it might be wasted, because OOC I'm not sure we're gonna fight Xoud to the death here -- who puts the boss in the first room of the dungeon?! :D But IC Astra wouldn't think like that, so she probably would fall for it and blow her big spell this early.
Since I'm probably going to be moving in to F4 to back up Chakos with healing, it would probably be good for either Syvlara or Uriah (somebody with Life Link and hit points) to delay after me, then block the doorway from room F3 that Astra foolishly opened, to prevent the robots from getting to our spellcasters.
Syvlara of the MoonWillow |
I'll take the sword if you like, but if I do that means that I'll be swinging at Furkas instead of baring the door. Perhaps Uriah can take care of that part?
Syvlara takes a few steps forward and shoots a single arrow at Furkas.

Syvlara's arrow bounces off Furkas smoke body. He laughs as the ineffectual attack does nothing to him. Furkas Xoud's brow furrows as he wonders whether to keep attacking you, or leave you to his robots. "Hmm. So weak. I thought you would put up more of a fight. Bah, you aren't worth my time."
The smoke wizard dissipates into one of the schematics oozing through the wall.
Furkas Xoud has left the battle.
One of the robots charges at Astra at the doorway, swinging its warhammer at her. The metal clunks against her body, leaving bruises but not strong enough to break bone.

Astra Picard |
I KNEW IT thank you for leaving now instead of one round later I saved a spell :D
Astra is unfortunately around the corner and doesn't see what's going on with Xoud, so she leaves her post at the robot door to come help Chakos. "Syvlara, here! The sword should work against Xoud!" she says, leaving her sword in Syvlara's square as she passes through, then moving a square just behind Chakos. At that point, she discovers that Xoud is gone, and momentarily goes blink what "?". She delays further action until Chakos' Life Link has injured him again, and then gives him one Cure Light Wounds.

Wouldn´t Astra leaving that spot before provoke?
Ibuki stands in shock after Furkas comment and leaving.
That...that was unexpected.
He looks at Astra.
You on the other hand are either a bit too bold or tired of living? Furkas alone could do away with us probably, why open the doors for his minions? The exit is that way!
Ibuki points towards the exit, then steps behind Chakos, taking a look at the robots and casting a spell.
But first:

GM Demonmoose |
Yes, it provokes. Also forgot to actually move a robot. So I'm adjusting the map to make more sense.
The robots seem to be nonlethal support robots, and they don't seem to have been altered in any way by Furkas Xoud from a first glance. Still, being knocked unconscious is not a good result with a ghost roaming the tower.

As the powerful ghost dissapears, Astra throws her sword (hopefully still sheathed) at Syvlara's feet. She pauses for a moment and looks at the sword, then her bow, and then at the two robots.
With a huff, Syvlara picks up the sword and shoves it into the spear compartment of her efficient quiver, then she squeezes past Liz and Ibuki to get into shooting position.

Dagger is adamantine, right?
With the robot slowed, Uriah manages to slice through parts of its metal frame with his sword and dagger. The sword is rebuffed by the strong metal body of the robot, but the dagger cuts through easily.
Liz's magic missiles plink harmlessly against the robot. It doesn't even seem to recognize the use of magic against it.
Syvlara's arrows all stab into the riot suppressors chest and core, dulled somewhat by its plating. The robot continues to move and act normally, albeit slower than before.
Ibuki's turn.
