Female Human

East door I guess.

Do people want to continue?

"Shall I hand out the secret ballots?"

Well if you think it´s safe to go on, then let´s go on.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

"That does it, enough hemming and hawing! Chakos, open the door!" Astra says.

Chakos counts on his fingers, just to make sure. Once he has reassured himself that the decision was unanimous, he moved forward and opened the indicated door to the east.

Inside the next room:

Raw iron, spools of wire, and sturdy jars filled with colorful liquids line the north and east walls of this large room. A balcony crosses the room from northwest to southeast, looking over a sweltering workshop. A large iron-and-mithral swivel crane perches at the edge of the balcony, its boom long enough to reach the stores and lower them down into the foundry below.

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

"Mithral eh? Expensive stuff that! Which way now?"

Chakos stands ready to count off the votes on his fingers as they come in.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

Astra moves into the room to examine the colorful liquids and the metals. "Is this where he tried to make those construct wizards? Or is this something else?" she muses out loud while examining the room, doing a search and seeing what she can turn up while trying to determine the purpose of this room.

Perception to search room: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Knowledge (arcana) to determine purpose of room: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19

Chakos holds up one finger on his left hand.

Down below you can see the forges where the azers were working. The room seems to be a storage area, while the crane seems to move things from the current floor to the forges below.

As you enter the room, the large crane animates and moves to strike the party with its boom.

Initiative:

Astra's Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
Chakos' Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Elizabeth's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Ibuki’s Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Syvlara's Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Enemy Initiative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Sorted Initiative:

1. Everyone
2. Enemy

Everyone's turn. The crane is very slow.

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Can the crane even "see" us from there?

It doesn't look like we have a path to the crane, so unless it can attack us from where it is, then I think Chakos' plan will be to ready to charge the thing if it goes to come around that corner.

Female Human

HP 53/53
AC 16/16/15
Effects:
Hand of Apprentice:7/7,Mage Armor(+4 ac),Resist Energy-Communal(20 points) 16 minutes,

Liz zorches the crane with her lightning wand
If this counts as robot, it takes %100 more damage
Electric DC 14: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 1, 1, 6) = 19

The crane can't "see" you because it has no eyes. It can definitely swing its boom to hit you anywhere in the room. The crane is fixed in place and can't walk. Also it is a construction crane, not a bird crane.

Reflex DC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

The crane dodges very slowly and is partially hit by Liz's electricity.

4 crane.
Astra, Syvlara and Ibuki's turn.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

"Please tell me there is someone piloting that thing. I think a magically animated crane would make my head explode."

Astra will use her construct bane EMP pistol.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 3 = 13 Assuming it's a construct
Damage: 4d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 1) + 3 = 14 Electricity

"What... is that?" Syvlara asks as she looks upon the crane. "It looks like... a mechanical tree, carrying a flail."

Syvlara draws her bow and arrow. Just as she was about to fire a barrage, she had an idea. Drawing back her bowstring, she aimed a glowing red arrow right at the cord holding the "flail".

Disarm Trick Shot: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28

8BAB +2Str +3Magic +1Training +2Focus +1Robot Slayer -4Trick Shot

Astra's pistol discharge causes the crane to shake, though it probably is all internal damage.

Syvlara's fancy shot knocks the crane's claw loose from its boom (preventing it from grabbing you). It hangs limply and ineffectually.

Ibuki's turn.
10 crane

Female Human

So have we rendered it harmless?

Probably. Let me have a look.

kn:arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
spellcraft: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30

Ibuki would like to know wether this is a construct or animated object and if it´s harmless now or can be dispelled.

It is an animated construct. It can no longer grab you with its claw, but it can still smack you with its body. It is primarily made of glaucite (an adamantine/steel composite) and has a 30 ft reach.

The crane continues to swing and strikes the nearest hero. Chakos is slammed by the crane's boom.

Strike vs Chakos: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 244d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 2) + 9 = 16

Everyone's turn.

Let me take care of that thing!

Dispel Magic: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Alrighty then, so if it can attack me from there, I suppose I will need to go ahead and walk 20' East, and then 10' south to be adjacent to it.

This will almost certainly provoke an AOO, since it can reach me where I am.

Can someone move me on the map please?

If I am struck again during my movement, then I'll likely do a LOH on myself to heal up, but I'll wait and see how much damage that is.

Chakos - 16

Female Human

Liz zaps the crane again
DC 14 reflex: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 6, 5, 2) = 24

Ibuki's magic surrounds the animated crane dispelling any magic enchantments it might have. The crane continues to move, ready to strike the party.

It isn't "smart" enough to make opportunity attacks. But it is apparently fast enough to dodge lightning.

Reflex, DC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

The animated crane ignores Chakos as he moves closer, but shifts its body out of the brunt of Liz's electricity.

19 Crane
Syvlara and Astra's turn.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

Astra doesn't see her pistol doing a whole lot of damage to the animated crane. "That makes sense. I think it is magically animated rather than being subject to having its mechanics disrupted. Perhaps my sword will do better." She stows her pistol (move action), and draws her sword while making a single move eastward (move action). She can't get close enough to strike on this round, but next round she should be able to take a five foot step and full attack.

Female Elf Fighter (Archer) 7 | HP 57/57 | AC 20 T 13 FF 17 | Ft +7 Rf +6 Wi +2* | Init +6 | Perc +13 l CMD 23

"Be careful, Astra!" Syvlara shouts. She unleashes a full barrage to help cover her.

Arrow1: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 14 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 14 + (2, 4) = 22

Syvlara's arrows all thud into the base and boom of the animated crane. None manage to pierce through, but shake as they flail from the damage.

55 Crane

The crane spins its boom with alarming speed at the blue elf Chakos.

Slam: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 254d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 4) + 9 = 23

Everyone's turn.

Female Human

Liz zaps again

Chakos is down 39

I will LOH myself

LOH: 3d6 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5) + 2 + 6 = 18 On me if no mercies needed

Now I'm down 21

I will full attack the crane

+1 Adamantine Greataxe: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 10 - 2 = 10
+1 Adamantine Greataxe Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 6 + (6, 4) = 23
Backbite: 1d6 ⇒ 4 DMG to me

+1 Adamantine Greataxe: 1d20 + 10 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (1) + 10 - 2 - 5 = 4
+1 Adamantine Greataxe Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 6 + (4, 6) = 29
Backbite: 1d6 ⇒ 6 DMG to me

It is unlikely that either of those hit, so I'm still down just 21

Reflex, DC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

The crane is unable to move, distracted by the encroaching enemies, and is struck full on by Liz's electricity. As the lightning engulfs in it bright light, its boom sinks down and it stops moving.

Battle is over.

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Chakos heals himself...

CLW: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7 On me
CLW: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8 On me

twice.

I'm now down 6HP

Female Human

I wonder if we can sell the mithril.

"When we're done, I think we should get a team tattoo. Maybe a stylized castle of some sort?"

Female Human

I'm suddenly thinking of a rabbit who just won't stop. You keep going and going and going..

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Chakos will see about using his adamantine blade to scrape off Mithral from the crane to answer some of Liz's concern.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

"I must say, I applaud Xoud's imagination. Animated booms, construct guardsmen, mechanical wizards, undead apprentices, cloud tentacle entities, enslaved elemental dwarves, infernal birds and golden badgers. You can't say the man is stuck in a rut. Where does he get those wonderful toys?" Astra shakes her head and joins Chakos in examining the wreckage of the crane. Then, she looks around to see if there is anything else interesting in the room.

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

Chakos and Astra find barrels of smithing equipment including tongs, hammers, water, coal, ingots of adamantine and even glaucite. Chakos is also able to scrape off some of the material from the crane.

About 1000 gp if you sell this.

Female Human

Adamanitine? This wil make excellent weapons for fighting constructs

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

"Don't I know it," says Chakos as he rubs his axe.

Female Human

Well we have been pushing rather hard and like I said, I am almost spent for magic and you have been burning through your healing as well. I say we should retreat and recharge.

Female Elf Fighter (Archer) 7 | HP 57/57 | AC 20 T 13 FF 17 | Ft +7 Rf +6 Wi +2* | Init +6 | Perc +13 l CMD 23

"I am still in good shape to fight, but I understand if you want to rest. You are right Liz, this will make for very effective weapons. I wish I were more skilled in making arrow heads out of it, for it takes me nearly a week to finish one. It's shameful, really. What is the other mineral here? Can it be used for our weapons?"

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Nice dig at the mundane crafting rules Syvlara! Paizo made those overly burdensome and not remotely realistic.

Rest

I´m marking that for myelf now, to better keep track of it and spells etc. :D

You want to make adamantine arrowheads? Maybe i can help there. Some place for crafting would be good though, i´m not equipped for that at the moment.

Female Human

It can gives us the chance to get spells ready that are more effective against the wizard. Such as a wind spell to blow away his mist. Gust of Wind

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

"Very well, let us pull back then. We should grab the valuables on our way out."

Female Human

Liz puts some adamantine ingots into her haversack. Back to town? Or out of the tower?

Female Elf Fighter (Archer) 7 | HP 57/57 | AC 20 T 13 FF 17 | Ft +7 Rf +6 Wi +2* | Init +6 | Perc +13 l CMD 23

"Both." replies Syvlara as she packs a few valuables to help.

The party leaves the Choking Tower and goes into the forest.

Are you heading back to Iadenveigh, or camping outside?

You can give me a survival check to find your way back.
