As the Kill-Team enters the Star Tower they take in the details of the area quickly but accurately.

The Star Tower is shaped like a normal tower but within it is quite open as it does not have more floors than just the ground level, the tower being made of marble and expensive clear crystal windows with a dome of that same crystal overhead.

The airy wide open space has many tables, couches, etc. Designed as a place of leisure with a bar stocked with a thousand kinds of high quality liquor at the north wall and large, high definition Pict screens scattered about to show whatever entertainment the inhabitants desire.

Above the weather has broken and it rains heavily, the precipitation drumming against the distant crystal ceiling loudly as lighting occasionally brightens the dimly lit lounge in old Pict imagery-like flashes.

The Governor sits in a large and opulently designed high backed chair with his head down and his eyes close, his youthful face appearing to be in contemplation.

His heavy bangs, long black hair and fine features give him an almost feminine look and his slim body and relaxed pose don't seem to give off much of a threatening air, but a long, slim, unignited powersword is lying bared across his lap and he seems unconcerned by the Marines who just barged in.

"I think it may be one of you." He says as he raises his head and opens his wide, expressive eyes. "Or at least one whose Fate is closely entwined with yours."

He stands and smooths his ruffled silks. "How exciting! An Inheritor whom is loyal to the Imperium of man? You may become the ally I have been hoping for for so long...or perhaps not."

He raises his powerblade and ignites it.

"When I was a mortal man I was well known for my dueling skill and though those days are long past I still know that there is primal truth in combat, and many things can be revealed, may I test you, and see what I can learn?"

Temujin raises his heavy bolter towards the governor: "You are under arrest for heresy and treason against the Emperor and the High Council of Terra. Drop your weapon and answer our questions or face the emperor's judgment!"

Sardus looks at the Governor and adjusts his vox to an open channel so all around him may hear.

If you are taking applications I am afraid I forgot my pen. I would fill one out in your blood but that would only be cruel to the vessel you occupy. I will not grant you such pleasure, but I know you did not wait for us to arrive so we could escort you to answer for your crimes...Tell me, shall you interview us one by one or all at once? I'm afraid I can't order my brothers in this situation. They are not happy about what you or your pet have done to our brothers. Speaking of which, was that your work in the chapel? If so, SHOW YOUR TRUE SELF! he yells at the man in anger and disgust. If you truly mean to test our might, taste our revenge. Otherwise disappoint me and surrender, I have no patience for your games.

With that Sardus looks to his brother's and gives them a moment to react. Should one of you feel the need for one on one combat, I shall honor your request. Otherwise, we shall end this foul demon's noise together.

Initiating Squad Mode, squad leader may begin and enter squad mode along with anyone else who chooses, once a mission as a free action, others will hopefully join if they dont need their solo-mode ability too bad.

Korbin moves to the side, slowly beginning to flank the governor as he listens to Brother Sardus speak. Once the Keeper finishes, Korbin steps forward and stops. Looks to the governor and says I am afraid I will have to cut your interview short as he draws his ancient chapter blade shaped like a talon and ignites it, it's glow hiding the razor sharp edge the Forgemaster had carefully given the blade before the mission.1d10 ⇒ 8

Say goodbye to your vessel daemon.as he stands ready, pistol bolter in one hand, power-blade in another. His combat systems engaging close combat protocals, his brother's in support range are calculated and accounted for, hopefully his machine spirits would not bend to this creatures taint.

Lastly, from the moment he's entered the room he's been watching and observing the governor's every move, looking for any signs of weakness or places he could exploit. He looks for anything that could be hidden, something out of place that shouldn't be, fully concentrating every power of perception his intellect could muster.

Watcher Deed may apply here (See alias or book), up to you GM if I could notice or see anything of use or interest. Entering squad mode with Brother Sardus.

**EDIT: Not sure why I rolled initiative, habit I guess for battles such as this. I forgot the way you had did it, you may just disregard them for Korbin and Sardus or use them however you see fit. Also, if anyone wanted to challenge it to single combat I wouldn't object, neither of my PCs will. Not sure any one else is really built well for Single combat....So, we'll just see if it answer's questions. But I think we all know we're gonna have to fight it one way or another.

Apothecary Morgan steps forward with his own power sword drawn now.

"Sacred Gene-Seed was destroyed while I was away. You and everyone who aided in that effort will pay. In the name of the Emperor die!"

Morgan then gives a battle-cry as he charges towards the Governor.

Activating Solo Mode Ability Thunder's Call on the governor. The governor will take a -20 to hit anyone but Morgan, and must make a Hard (-20) Agility test to willing move away from Morgan. Morgan gets a +10 on his WS checks against the governor, and may re-roll dodge and parry tests versus the governor. Then Morgan will be using the charge action against the governor.

Brother Sardus respect's the Storm Warden's call for single combat and merely begins to circle and keep guard, keeping a sharp eye should the governor decide one marine is not enough. As he moves past the Librarian, he tells him Nullify any psychic technique he may try to use. It should be a fair fight.

Awesome move, I was hoping you would choose your Storm Warden Solo ability, I intend to keep Korbin and Sardus from attacking, so you can maintain benefits of ability, also, the Nullify action available to Naaman from the psychic-hood should not constitute an attack right? It can merely cancel or make focus power test more difficult, but must be declared before the creature starts doing stuff. He may not be a psyker and may not apply here, but we won't know until we know. Just trying to keep the fight fair and honorable.

Morgan, let us know if he does attack us if you want us to stay back and/or engage if you need help...I'll let you die if that's what you ask me to do, Sardus is a Raven Guard, the ultimate pragmatist that does not fear the inevitability of his death or yours.

As he watches the Storm Warden charge, in the moments before he strikes, he has already decided to honor the warriors wishes and will allow his brother to fall, so that his Chapter may know of his bravery and his name forever an example to his Chapter's future generations. If he could defeat the creature in combat then he will have partially avenged the Emperor's fallen sons. No matter, the cycle does not end here, and regardless of the outcome, the struggle of light and dark will continue far beyond the confines of this tower. But every Dark Age has a starting point and this is certainly looking to be ground zero for chaos. He needed answers, but for he must accept only more death.

It takes a moment for Korbin to back away. While he wanted nothing more than to strike the creature down, he would respect the ways of his brother's Chapters. He keeps watch, making sure to capture what unfolds on his Pict-recorder. At the first sign of any action by the governor to engage others or refuse the call of the Storm Warden, Korbin would be in position to move swiftly and quietly. In the meantime he uses his Auguer Array to scan the room above and below, including the governor, looking for any signs of treachery, deception, or reinforcements.

Alright=)

Korbin finds nothing out of the ordinary, which in itself my be considered strange given the circumstances, but he keeps an eye out for if anything changes.

The Governor responds neither to calls for surrender nor questions about what is happening.

A faint smile paints his face as the Marines surround him.

Combat begins.

The Governor raises his rapier-like power blade as Morgan charges him.

The Govenor attempts to parry, reaction; WS 60, +10 balanced, 70 1d100 ⇒ 97

Morgan's blade slashes past the Govenor's defense and carves into his head, exploding his face and hurling his body halfway across the room.

Clearly, a mortal's strength is nothing compared to an Astartes.

No, nullify does not count as an attack and can be used in situations like this.

All is quiet for a moment as the room descends into silence, the only sounds being the drum of the rain and the sizzling crackle of the Governor's ruined body.

Suddenly the Governor's body springs upright, despite missing most of its head and begins to shudder violently, the ruined, smoking head and face of the man regrowing and the rest of his body beginning to expand grotesquely.

The Governor's body below the waist grows and expands into a massive pile of mutated flesh as his arms below the elbows extend into vicious blood colored pseudopods that constantly warp and sprout bone blades, mauls made from deformed muscle and whips made from nerve bundles that crackle with unnatural energies.

He rises high off the ground on a bloated pillar of constantly warping flesh that appears to have characteristics of randomly selected insects, reptiles and raw human organs.

His head, upper torso, and upper arms still appear perfectly human, but the rest of him is the grotesque and constantly warping flesh of a Chaos Spawn.

"Hmmm, I'm a bit out of practice with the sword obviously." He comments. "Perhaps a different style of combat is in order."

He reaches out with weaponized pseudopods towards the Marines.

Old combat over, new one starts. You receive a +20 to hit because of his new massive size. He is 5 meters away.

Sardus watches as the man transforms. As quickly as the man rises and sprouts abominable limbs, the hatred and fury of vengeance rises in Sardus. He lifts his bolter pistol with his Witcher bolts selected, aims, and fires a single well placed shot that his target locators suggest as vulnerable near the head.

The Governor, though he recognizably has a head, is now effected by the Strange Physiology rule, meaning all hits count as body hits and when damage exceeds wounds he will auto perish. He takes 137 damage so far from Sardus' and Korbin's combined attacks. His Psi rating is reduced by one for 1d10 ⇒ 7 rounds. Or do Witcher bolts stack? I can add to that.

The Governor has huge chunks blown out of his fleshy form but his unnatural vitality has faded little. Despite a gaping bolt wound in his head he still manages a sinister sounding chuckle.

Don't know if they stack..Only one has been fired so far. I had planned to fire more assuming the PR reduction would stack and/or the number of rounds would too, though I doubt things usually last that many rounds to matter, I guess it's the PR reduction and the inability to "Push" psy powers that matter.

I think a fair way to do it might require a bit of work, but I'll help keep track if necessary when I fire bolts.

In each round, I'll keep track of each bolter round fired, it's PR reduction, and 1d10 round duration after you roll. I'll add them up, but as the rounds go, the earliest ones will fade.

Round 1 Witch Bolter
PR -1 7 Rounds

Round 2 Witcher bolter
Pr -1 5 rounds, Total PR-2 6 rounds ( 4 more at -2, then rest at -1) assuming I don't fire more.

If that seems like its to much of a mess or unnecessary, do what you will.

If you are willing to keep track and post the result each round I am down=)

Apothecary Morgan is disgusted by the Governor's new form.

"So much for an honorable combat deamon!"

The bolter that had been set aside for the duel suddenly rose up and with a small click new rounds were placed into the chamber and Apothecary Morgan grinned as he fired.

Lol, yeah, calling it body instead of torso is a bit odd. Also, sorry for being confusing, yes, keep track of the damage you have taken.

As bolt shells stitch the Governor's bloated form and explode the massive damage caused by the attacks finally prove too much and the Governor collapses into shredded piles of mutated flesh.

For a moment you seem to see something, a strange vision you see more with your mind's eye than your physical eyes. An image of a golden, perfected human form, made from power and light, rising from the ruined remains of the Chaos Spawn's flesh.

The Governor's voice, clear and bright, seems to issue from everywhere and nowhere at once.

"Tzeentch seems to hide his choice well, even up close I cannot be sure whom it is. But as you are now I once was, and as I am now one of you will someday be..."

The image fades away, leaving only silence.

Sardus looks to his brothers after the vision and asks "Did everyone see and hear that?.. Never mind the ramblings of deamons, they only lie and deceive. Do not give into the temptations, for you have seen we are stronger when we walk with the Emperor on his path. We need to patch up if you need and move out. I'll inform the Watch Captain of our progress and see where we are needed next."

As he finishes Sardus turns away to let his brothers regroup and recover. He doesn't mind his own wounds, they are light and he's dealt with worse for much longer.

+++Captain Hiro, we have vanquished the governor who was the host vessel of some Daemon spawn. No one seriously wounded, brother Naaman has rendezvoused with us. Awaiting further orders. Moving to secure and clear out Star Tower+++

After they sent the daemon back to the depths of the warp, he looks to his brother's to see if he's not the only one who saw it.

I saw it too. he replies to Sardus, but afterwards, doesn't say much more. As Sardus moves to inform the Captain of their progress Korbin takes a few minutes to begin working on himself. He begins a ritual that's silent, at least to human ears. As he moves it almost looks like a dance.

"I'm here, come for extraction and debriefing." Hiro informs the Kill-Team.

As the marines gather to leave Saruds asks Korbin to make sure he uploads all the files he can. Including governor archives and other palace backup data. That information could be key in deciphering what happened here and why.

As the Marines board and the Thunderhawk seals up and launches Watch Captain Hiro informs you that Lord Inquisitor Sethiro Weyland will soon arrive on the battle barge The Emperor's Wings(your momentary base of operations) and meet you to discuss the mission you just performed for him and what comes next.

The Thunderhawk rattles and shakes as it burns through the heavy storm before settling down as it rises first out of the storm then out of the atmosphere into the cold blackness of space.

Through the windows you see over a dozen capital size ships and their many escorts in formation over the planet, a decently sized portion of what remains of Battlefleet Morpheus after the majority of its ships have moved out of sector to support the Imperial lines battling Abbadon's 13th Black Crusade.

The burning remains of the Heretic fleet, generally smaller pirated Imperial vessels and none Alpha Legion, spiral and drift through the void.

As you approach the battle barge The Emperor's Wings you are taken in by the size and strength of a true Astartes vessel. Many kilometers long and covered in heavy adamantine armor, skyscraper sized crenelated towers and cannon with barrels wide enough to drive battle tanks through, the battle barge is a symbol of true Imperial might.

The Emperor's Wings, one of three such monstrous battle barges in the arsenal of the Divine Eagles Space Marine Chapter has answered the call of duty, along with an entire company of Astartes, sent by a triumvirate of Lord Inquisitors; Aria Caro, Sethiro Weyland, and Shar Quinn, each from one of the three major Ordos uniting in unraveling some large and deadly conspiracy(the details of which they have yet to share with you).

As you glide towards a landing bay the shadow of the titanic ship falls over you and blots out the light of the systems bright star.

"There will be a proper mission debriefing soon." Watch Captain Hiro tells you as he guides the Thunderhawk through the slow process of docking. "But tell me, did you learn anything of interest about the Heretics and their plans?"

After Korbin's ritual and enticing of his nanobots to repair his wounds he gather's the governor's power blade, hoping it may give some clues. As requested, he finds another console and retrieves the information he didn't have time to get before. He restores power to the sections and returns systems to normal in preperation to hand over system authority and codes to an officer who would be in charge of securing the palace when they left.

As the team begins their return Korbin plays back through his pic recorder, recalling events and studying himself and his brothers for ways to improve. While it will take a while, Raven Guards are known for writing and presenting an "After-Action-Report" to their kill team after each mission.

Special Chapter Pic Recorder allows a Challenging (+0) tactics test, every DOS gives +50 xp. Check alias for details.

Tactics Int 65 vs 1d100 ⇒ 32 3 DOS= 150 bonus XP per the GM's approval.

Yep, that's cool, boosting the final xp award to 1,650.

Apothecary Morgan gives a small explanation.

"The governor was some sort of demon and he implied that one of the Kill-Team or someone related to it might become a demon. For their plans we were unable to find out much about it expect that whatever they came here for they completed."

Watch Captain Hiro, a slender Raven Guard whose slight build belies his deadly skill, smiles in response. "Chaos becomes clumsier and their lies more transparent by the year, that one of you, members of the storied and honorable Squad Thannatos, would choose to become a daemon is truly ludicrous."

There is some ritual that was completed, a larger plan. This planet was but a piece of what was needed. The warp gate was opened and the Alpha Legion were all poisoned and ordered to fight to the death. They seem to think they were all the same person. There is more, but I need time to debrief and review pic recordings and my notes.

Perhaps Brother Korbin can tell you more of what he learned in the systems or at the Warp gate rescuing hostages.

Brother Morgan and I consumed some of the traitors flesh and had visions of Warlord Kul Dannon and a Dark Edar by the nam eof Vay'Sheen having a large meeting with the governor. We were unable to determine what they discussed, but have confirmed the names and meetings through multiple soldiers.

ON the ride back Korbin takes a look at the powe-blade, as an armourer, weaponsmithng and history are important parts of his trade. Perhaps it's design or ornamentation will shed light on its origin, wether the governor or the beast that took over his body.

Armourer +20, Int 65 vs 1d100 ⇒ 9 7 DOS

"Lies surely," Naaman agrees with Sardus as the daemon is finally banished, but in his heart a small seed of doubt took root.

Once on the thunderhawk Naaman listened to his bretheren and their captain. "While the Emperor was victorious today, I fear for the consequenses of the ritual. Brothers have you collect more information, perhaps pic recordings?"he inquires.

Brother Korbin hears the Librarians request and replies. Of course Brother, I will transfer the data to your dataslate when we return. I am putting together my recordings and anyone elses for analysis and will provide you a copy.

We talked about it before, don't know if anyone else has recordings, if so, speak up, mine might be the only one.

Powersword's History:
This Exceptional quality powerblade is designed like a rapier, thin and light, with a hilt wrapped round with miniscule text declaring the Twelve Loyalties every Planetary Governor must have for the Imperium. This particular blade is a replacement blade forged when a famous Governor, Delanti, lost his in direct combat with an Ork Warboss some three centuries ago. It was handed down generation to generation until it found its way into the hands of the current Governor.

As the Thunderhawk slides into the docking bay and comes to a rest, you see that waiting for you amongst the other docked Thunderhawks and tech crews is Captain Angelus of the Divine Eagles Space Marine Chapter. He waits, his Artificer Armor shimmering white and gold(the Chapter's colors) in the bright bay lights, with a frown upon his sculpted and handsome features.

A full squad of Divine Eagles stand at attention at his back.

What Squad Thannatos already knows of Angelus:

The young and bold Captain of the Divine Eagles 3rd Company was requisitioned by the Inquisitor Lords, along with this battle barge, for their secretive mission. A bold and daring leader by nature he has become more and more dissatisfied with his duties under the Inquisitors, who have been treating him like a glorified escort instead of sending his Company in on Inquisitorial missions.

It is perhaps understandable that the secretive Inquisition is relying on it's own well trained forces rather than the recruit Astartes but the lack of action has left a sour taste in the Captain's mouth, though he always treats Squad Thannatos with the utmost respect.

As the kill team exits the Thunderhawk Sardus sees a familiar unhappy face and makes his way towards the Captain and his men. Greetings Captain Angelus. Have you been updated on the palace assault.

Not sure what else to say, dont know if hes in the know, or just really a glorified "escort." Not sure of the rapport we have, if he usually is waiting there to oversee and examine soldiers returning after contact with Daemons, not sure if I should be worried or if its Standard operating procedure (SOP) and he's just usually unhappy. So I'll just gauge things based on he Captain's response.
