"Through the destruction of our enemies do we earn our salvation!"-Librarian Isador Akios of the Blood Ravens

It doesn't matter how you got here. You are here, and there are only two choices: fight or die. For an Astartes the choice is clear and not even a choice. How long you have been here is hard to tell.

The Bloodsmith calls "Next" for inspection. A worn tech-priest the Dark Eldar have reconstructed and employ as an apothecary and servant for the coliseum. You walk forward proudly. "State your name Astartes for her majesty's royal records." The demented magos turn his dead to a long dead rusted servitor and speaks to it with an annoyed voice "I already asked him that, give him time to speak Pridius!"

Welcome to the recruitment for my new Deathwatch Campaign. This is a Deathwatch game, but I will be using Soul Reaver from the Rogue Trader line as our starting point. If you are THAT GUY and go look up Soul Reaver you will be disappointed. I am merely using the coliseum portion of the book and some of the plot hooks, but 80% of it will be fresh material. As such there are a few changes. You were captured by Dark Eldar during a raid or encounter that should be detailed in a backstory. You are Not yet in the Deathwatch but eventually you will be. You will Not have any armor or weapons yet. Librarians will be diminished significantly to start as well as the Dark Eldar fear invoking She Who Thirsts.

Character Creation:
Point Buy System. 100 points to buy, no more than a score of 50 before chapter bonus. All Core chapters are allowed, anything else will be case by case. I am fine with "reskinning" a chapter. For example you want to play a Disciple of Caliban, you can simply use the Dark Angel mechanics. No power armor, no weapons, no gear, as they have been removed. An unarmed space marine is still a force to be reckoned with many have learned. Remember things like your betcher's gland. As you win rounds you will gain unknown supporters that want to see you succeed for what ever reason. You will be granted items then(basically the requisition system just a different source). Also there will be opportunities to use the Xenos weaponry against them, but using such things will come at a price (typically a small hit to renown).

But I want to be a Chaplain:
Here's how I make that work. You get to be an assault marine without the pilot personal bit, and your special abilities are that of the tactical marine (still chose one as normal). This is only allowed with the understanding that once you make the prereqs to take the Chaplain specialty from Rites of Battle you will do so.

Librarians:
You are fitted with a psydisruptor, and your day only gets worse from there. Your Psy Rating is 1. You may only manifest powers as if they were fettered (you may not push). However, you do not manifest any perils or phenomenon. Your power sometimes leaks out in unique ways (mechanically you are given 1 extra fate point per original PR and when you use them I will narrate how your power manifested to produce the desired effect.) Do not worry, eventually you will kill all the Dark Eldar and be blessed/or cursed with the warp once more.

The Coliseum:
The Shadowspire pits of the Nexus of Shadows is ever changing. Some matches will be nothing more than an obstacle course. Some will be on skyboards in an antigravity chamber. It really depends on the Archon's mood. Impressing the Archon is important, and will likely get you noticed. Killing things using special maneuvers, critical hits, and unique deaths will earn you favor that translates into requisition.

Honorable Mentions:
In Rites of Battle there are many medals, purity seals, ect and no real tangible way to get them. In this campaign there is. For every 3 honorable mentions you will get a purity seal or medal of sorts. You earn these at the end of a match, I will pull everyone into the discussion and give an AAR. There are 3 categories. Best Role Player-Chosen by me, but recommendations are considered. Best Use of a Fate Point-Chosen by me, but recommendations are considered. MVP-Chosen by the other players using what ever criteria you chose. You can not vote for yourself, and I am the tie breaker. Certain medals will not be given until you reach a certain rank or other prereq. It is possible to gain 3 in one match and I have done that in the past. This lets the competitive player compete, but on my terms. Compete in role play, compete in team work, build each other up.

*Edit-Every match I will announce it here. The first 5 to reply are in the match. This gives everyone a chance to play, and given the type of play it is ok to have uneven kill-teams. If you die, you burn a fate point simple as that.

defo interested in this. I will be out of town today due to playing PFS Emerald Spire all day, so will work on a char tomorrow when I am at work.

Quuick question, will it be possible to play a Terminator (without the gear ofcourse)? I am leaning towards either a Salamander, Raven Guard or a Dark Angel char.

ps. I might be wrong, but wasn't this used as a plot in one of the death watch novels? I seem to remember this.

Are we free to choose a deed and/or distinction from ROB?

Currently thinking of what I'll play, something new or an old PC from a game that didn't make it far.

I'll try to have something up ASAP and save the XP until I know what it can/can't be spent on.

I assume you mean a member of a Veteran Company (Typically 1st Company) with a Crux Terminatus? The answer would be no. You can earn a Crux Terminatus in the game by gaining Honorable Mentions and also having the prereqs in the Rites of Battle book (I believe its Rank 5 in addition to some other things)

LAZYPANDA wrote:

I believe these can be good for certain backgrounds, I would need your background to support it and it will be case by case. I do not have my Rites of Battle in front of me at the moment so I do not want to give a blanket "yes" in case I am forgetting something with obvious shenanigans.

1d5 ⇒ 4

1d10 ⇒ 10

Nice rolls for Wounds and FP. Going to throw up an old PC, Rune Priest Luthar I think of the Space Wolves.

Will we be able to use Squad Modes? Or would you rule we still don't have the practice fighting with each other to have a good cohesion?

On that might depend my choice... Ultramarine? Space Wolf? Ahhhrrgg...

Dark Archive

Will work for me then to earn the battle honors. Playing dark angel then :)

Oh I am glad you posted this. Wounds will be full (so 23) and fate points will be full (so 5). This is to counter the deadliness of the combat and matches.

Forgot about squad mode thanks for brining that up. No deathwatch squad modes, codex yes. Cohesion will be reduced to 2 for the first match as you just are meeting each other.

Oh...Now I don't feel so special anymore...

Anyways, doing some reading, considering the Old Wolf and Ritual Duel deed, then I saw the Dark Angel...Might RP that or avoid that conflict all together (its a Wolf Priest, double whammy...Dark Angels don't like Psykers right?) OR...

Ive been reading up on Iron hands b/c of the mention in another thread and found them really interesting. I'll decide between the two, but definitely going with a Librarian.

How do you feel about the "Price of Victory" deed, lose a FP, gain 2 cybernetics? Or No quarter given (deed or distinction). Its 600xp I think and gives counter-attack. Not sure if those are shenanigans or not, so I thought I'd ask.

Dark Angels have no problem with librarians, rogue psykers yes as do all space marines. You might be thinking of the Black Templars, the Imperial Fist successor. They have a deep disliking for all psykers and have no Librarians at all in their unit.

I will look at those deeds when I get home. Deeds are cool an fluffy, but consider characteristics and skills as well.

Dark Archive

Damnit... Now i am considering black templar chaplain... Thanks for the reminder about templars...

I'll come up with a Space Wolf in no time. Not sure if Blood Claw, Grey Hunter or Wolf Scout, but surely melee focused.

Dotting for now. I will think of something later. Do you mind if I read about the setting?

I do not mind if you read the setting. I will post relevant things to the gametab soon-Known Dark Eldar Factions ect

Dotting, will have a proper think tomorrow, but I had come up with a white scars apothecary which appeals.

I am looking at an Iron Hands Techmarine or a Space Wolves assault marine.

Hi, Jereru here. This is my Blood Claw. History is in my head, I'll be finishing it between today and tomorrow.

"Knutr Gunhildsson Gunhildsson *Buzzzz* Space Wolf " The ancient tech priest seems to malfunction for a moment before turning to his decaying servitor once more "Yes I know their Primarch was Leman Russ Pridius, but now he works for the high lady like we all do"

Submissions
Knutr Gunhildsson-Space Wolf Bloodclaw: Needs Background. Normally I would raise an eyebrow at a Bloodclaw having completed a Ritual Duel, but in this setting is it highly possible just explain it.

Hey, Psyblade here.

I will bring Brother Vorenthar, a Black Templar aspiring Chaplain to the fray.. Currently in the process of going over the char creation for him and seeing what I will need to do for the Chaplain part as well for the near future.

Here are my dice rolls for the stats

Weapon Skill (WS): 2d10 ⇒ (10, 2) = 12
Ballistic Skill (BS): 2d10 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
Strength (S): 2d10 ⇒ (5, 8) = 13
Toughness (T): 2d10 ⇒ (7, 5) = 12
Agility (A): 2d10 ⇒ (10, 7) = 17
Intelligence (INT): 2d10 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
Perception (Per): 2d10 ⇒ (4, 9) = 13
Willpower (WP): 2d10 ⇒ (7, 10) = 17
Fellowship (Fel): 2d10 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8

In regards of the past events? everything is ok to select? or do you want us to pick something specific?

I think Knutr is ready. I had to re-classify him to Sky Claw, since I had forgotten about Space Wolves not liking Jump Packs. Also, being a Sky/Blood Claw is... they're the younglings, but it's also the only way I know to represent a Grey Hunter specialised in melee.

Anyhow, here he is.

@Psyblade: GM-Gathrix stated in the Character Creation section that we were to use a 100-pt-buy.

ahh... with the 100pt buy he means to spend that on the 9 attributes... got it, then I have 1000xp for the skill points... check :)

Definitely interested, as my other Deathwatch campaign died out just after I joined!
After looking around ... most are going melee (obviously in this kind of setting were one starts without weapons).
I think about a Techmarine (maybe Salamanders) or I'll try out some kind of stealth/sniper (Raven guard or Raptors)...
Well: let the crunch begin (as I have plenty of ideas for ether character ^^)

Demeanors and past event tables are merely there for inspiration, you can come up with your own and flesh it out into an actual background.

Keep the submissions coming I will post the first "Match" in a few days and see who signs up.

Stats added (well most of them are, some minor things I will have to calculate)
Background I am working on atm so that it will be fitting for a BT caught by Xenos scum.

If someone can have a quick look to ensure I didn't screw up anywhere?

Report: Beta-phase of protocol Tiamat Firewaller ready for inspection. Todo-List entries as follows: Traits, skills, deeds, advances.

Dotting for some interest. Always was a massive fan of 40k RPGs, mostly Rogue Trader, but I'll definitely be interested in this one. I've glanced over Soul Reaver, as it's a Rogue Trader module, I have to say, but considering the different ruleset and what the GM mentioned, I think it'd be quite alright.

I'm mostly thinking to try for either a Blood Raven Librarian or a Devastator. Both would be quite handicapped in the beginning, as I understand, but having a dedicated "Knowledge" guy is always helpful, and would be the secondary specialization of either concept.

Mostly finished the crunch and background. Will add some more char-sheet things by I think I have done everything for an unarmed lvl 1 techmarine.

Yeah that is fine, its really just the core concepts and things like favor which I translate into requisition things like that.

"Brother Vorenthar, very good, now wait over there please." The abused machine twitches and shouts "I AM BEING POLITE PRIDIUS!"

The Magos turns to Tiamat and continues "Ah a true initiate, Tiamat Firewalker. A Salamander." The magos changes his vocal patterns and begins speaking in Techna-Linga "1010011101 Readjust current position. Fixate 11101 yourself adjacent to 110001010 in the corner." He points to where the others are standing, then balls his hand into a fist and pounds the dead servitor next to him. "PRIDIUS YOU MUST NOT INTERUPT ME! JUST BECAUSE HE KNOWS OF THE OMNISSIAH DOENS'T MEAN I CAN TRUST HIM WITH THAT YOU REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He beings to relentlessly beat the mechanical corpse in front of you.

"I am Feliks Blackfang, of the Space Wolves."

MisterLurch here. So my plan changed entirely, and I present Brother Feliks Shadowfang, Wolf Scout of the Great Company of the Blackmane.

Still need to spend the initial xp and put his background in.

Added the Tactical ability to the list (Tactical Expertise). Now to flesh out his background and then I am good to go.

Had some minor adjustments so as not to be too similar to Feliks. There's only so much you can do with the initial xp :)

Nice to see a Wolf Brother join the mayhem. Welcome, Feliks Blackfang of the Blackmanes. Knutr Gunhildsson of the Drakeslayers salutes you.

Nice to have you around, MisterLurch :)

Doting Ill add my idea soon, thinking Raven Guard

Weapon Skill (WS): 2d10 ⇒ (4, 8) = 12
Ballistic Skill (BS): 2d10 ⇒ (3, 8) = 11
Strength (S): 2d10 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
Toughness (T): 2d10 ⇒ (6, 8) = 14
Agility (A): 2d10 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Intelligence (INT): 2d10 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
Perception (Per): 2d10 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10
Willpower (WP): 2d10 ⇒ (3, 9) = 12
Fellowship (Fel): 2d10 ⇒ (10, 7) = 17

Not yet finished but this is Darkstorms Raven guard idea.

Just dropping by ;-)

Hey, sorry Knutr, I didn't look at your talents and such. I hope I was not stomping too much on your toes...

I agree, though. It is good to have another of the Rout here. Even if it is a hot-tempered pup! ;)

ETA till the 2 pups cause trouble...

Countdown starts now!

"Feliks, yes yes I know Pridius he is another son of Russ. Our Dark Lady prizes them for their "predictable nature" as she calls it. Please stand over there now with the others Feliks iks ks *HISSSSsss*" The magos' vox goes on the fritz again, but soon recovers.

"Theliel, hmm Raven Guard. What's that Pridius? Isstvan V? That's ancient history Pridius. LET ME DO MY JOB PRIDIUS!" The Magos continues to scream obscenities at the long dead servitor.

What is giving the Space Wolf Characters Counterstrike? I see that in both of your profiles, but I can not track it down in the books.

I wanna start now :P

It is from the Living Errata page 2:

Space Wolves Characters wrote:
“Bonus Talent” should instead read “Bonus Talents.” Add the Counterattack Talent to the Bonus Talents section.

I will be able to get a character up on Thursday. Am looking at a Blood Angel (or descendant) Sanguinary Priest or Apothecary (depending on chapter)

Yup, I guess they realised the Space Wolves Advancement List is so sh*tty that they gave them Counter Attack and added Flesh Render to the List.

Feliks wrote:

Don't worry, as I said, it's difficult to not look much alike with the starting XP unless you pick a "special" Spec (Techmarine, Librarian, etc). I reworked the PC to have a different fighting style, in this case focusing on placing a well-aimed counterattack.

Updated Stats. Everything else will be on the alias by the end of the day

Living errata gave them a Rank 4 600 exp talent for free? Ok I am looking it up.

Ok I found it, yeah well at least it fits their chapter I guess. Don't forget the responding attack is at -20. I was letting one of my players get away with murder for a while there.

"By the High Lady Anylara's Decree, you have been chosen to descend down to the altar of Qa'Leh. Fight well and the mistress of blades will reward you." Bloodsmith Domos announces as the tunnel door opens. You know if you resist or struggle you will be held in place through some type of gravity manipulation and a Homunculi will come and "encourage" you, you have tried it before.

The First 5 to respond in the Discussion tab will be in the Match.
