Brother Vex, Psyniscience test is successful by two degrees.

Brother Vex narrows his eyes, finally closing them, effectively shutting himself away from the distractions posed by the two Kill-teams apprehensively milling about in the interminable corridor. The monotonous chanting of Brother-Librarian Kuzhuk follows him down into his subconscious, the burly marine's deep cadence rising and falling as he too quests outward with his mind. Once the Dark Angel has found his center, he opens his inner eye, probing cautiously for the ever-present ebb and flow of the Immaterium.

An eternity passes in a moment.

His eyes snap open, and he finds himself looking directly into the dark eyes of the White Scar, who returns the piercing stare. Brother-Librarian Kuzhuk's visage is one of incomprehensible disbelief, and it mirrors that of Brother-Librarian Vex.

Nothing.

It is as if the Warp itself has vanished. Not a vestige or shadow of the Empyrean is present. Never has either Librarian experienced such an occurrence; nor even have they heard of such a thing in all the annals of their chapter's Librarius. Not under the protection of the mightiest Gellar Field, not even in the most sacrosanct and impermeable stasis vaults of their chapters. For the two psykers, the Warp is effectively everywhere, no matter how faint it might be, for it to be utterly absent is a jarring realization with no precedent whatsoever. It is as if some basic law of the universe has been broken.

Brother-Librarian Kuzhuk mutters an imprecation in some tribal tongue of Chogoris, the sallow skin around his narrowed eyes stretching as his eyes widen in surprise.

Familiar with his fellow Battle-Brother's tendencies, Brother-Sergeant Ghaeman looks over with some concern toward Kill-team Mordant's Librarian.

"Brother, what is it?"

Brother Vex, for all intents and purposes the Warp is simply not there within the confines of the Omega Vault, as far as your extrasensory ability is able to determine.

Dark Angel Librarian

I went from one extreme to another. Countless noise of a trillion times a trillion voices with the Hive Mind to nothing. Even with my experiences against battling those of the Blood God I have never felt anything so complete.

It is strangely welcoming to me as it is unnerving. How many times I wondered what it would feel like....

"There is only silence."

What is this place that defies physical and metaphysical laws? On Mars I once heard a lecture by a Geometrician-Savant. He described a hypothetical locus wherein vectors of different spaces could be experienced alternately or all at once. Perhaps we are in some sort of null-space... But the Vault is truly an incomprehensible wonder. My cogitations are sheer conjecture and more likely fantasy.

"Let us find what The Vault wants us to discover."

"I can take point if needed" is all he had to say, trying to take this as any other mission were the only things he could trust was his own senses.

Brother-Librarian Kuzhuk simply shakes his head in consternation, and waves away Brother-Sergeant Ghaeman's obvious concern. He nods when the Dark Angel gives his assessment, corroborating and confirming what Brother-Librarian Vex has observed.

"I concur with Brother-Librarian Vex; the Warp is absent here."

"No, an absence cannot fully articulate this nothingness, it is more that in this place the Immaterium simply never was."

He looks down at the adamantine plating on the polished floor, his expression that of a man used to confronting the impossible finally experiencing something even he has no way of coming to grips with.

The no-nonsense Brother Ghaeman grunts and turns away, speaking instead to the Hammer of Dorn, Brother Drogan, and the techmarine Brother Ius, about the bizarre architecture and seamless lines of the endless vault doors, but despite their combined expertise, neither is able to contribute anything by way of explanation on how the portals operate or open.

After the two Kill-teams confer for a few minutes, comparing their respective analyses, they form into parallel columns and advance into the seemingly never-ending corridor, Brother Decius and Brother Tavius leading the respective formations.

Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω Ω

Actively scanning with both augurs at their disposal as well as the preternatural senses of the two Librarians and Brother Hrothgar, the Deathwatch advance steadily, their progress almost imperceptible within the uncanny uniformity of this central passageway. They are only able to mark their progress by the sequential counting of doors on either side and the fact that the narrow breach in the Omega Vault's main entry now is barely a sliver of shadow far behind them. With metronomic precision, Brother Emeric and his Iron Hand counterpart from Kill-team Mordant have counted three-hundred and fourteen doors on either side of the corridor, all sealed, all with no visible means of opening them. For the first thirty minutes of their sojourn, Brother Emeric detects no variance in either the dimensions or the distance between the doors, but by the end of the first hour he receives his first anomalous reading. The intervening distance between the outer edges of the framing arches on the last two doors registered one micrometer larger than than those he has already passed.

Brother Emeric, please attempt an Easy [+30] Tech-Use skill test.

The doors continue on as far as the auto-sense aided eyes of the marines can see.

"Hold." I raise my fist to halt both columns.

Test successful by five degrees, Emeric.

The formation halts at Brother Emeric's urging, and the Iron Hand turns to face Brother Emeric, the cold, machine-like gaze of his augmetic visor and slack waxen skin between it and his vox making his reaction to the interruption impossible to gaze. When the Brother Ius finally speaks his voice is a strident, resonant buzz of perfectly annunciated syllables, albeit strung together with nary a break between them, like a servitor regurgitating a burst of binary code.

<<<[Spacial/anomalies/confirmed][Sinister/proximal/extent/of/corridor/interval//designate/313-314/has/decremented/one/micrometer/total/since/Kill.team/embarkation/into/the/Omega/Vault][Postulation...curvature/present/in/corridor/bearing/dexter/by/nearly/imperceptible/quantity]>>>

This datum comes as a surprise to Brother Emeric, but of more concern are his computations regarding the mathematical extrapolations he has been cogitating with regard to the seemingly endless corridor. Given the proximate dimensions of Watch Station Erioch, another nine meters of progress should place the two Kill-teams beyond the outer void-walls of Watch Station Erioch...yet the corridor for all intents and purposes continues on to the limits of his augmented vision. What this presages delves into concepts in non-Euclidean geometric theory that defy all rational explanation.

Hrothgar examines the curving adamantine framing on several of the countless vault doors again, Brother Drogan gauging them with the scrutinizing eye of a siege engineer.

The Hammer of Dorn snorts in grudging admiration, surprisingly, as it runs contrary to his normally sour and disdainful manner.

"Fine, fine work, it is. Seamless. Inviolate."

Awareness test successful, Hrothgar.

The Space Wolf gazes intently at the curving bulge of framing metal girding the edges of each and every door, narrowing his eyes but seeing nothing that betrays itself as a weapon or defensive countermeasure. The portals do not resonate with any energies or fields according to the augurs of the tech-priests, but there is some part of Hrothgar's savage id that bristles at some hidden threat. These doorways are not defenseless, he is certain of that.

It takes .0034 seconds to register... Cogitating such a hypothesis...

I attempt to make an auspex reading of the opposite row of doors on the Kill-Team's right-hand side. Why is there no matching decrease in distance between those doors? How is it they follow a circumference while the doors to our left are closer together?

Does my previous roll (five successes, *wink-wink*) still hold here or should I make another?

Brother Quintus wrote:

"I do not know, Brother-Leader. I can only give conjecture bordering on the fantastic: it seems we are in some sort of null-space, wherein physical laws of the known universe are defied. This corridor goes well beyond the confines of Fortress Erioch as we know it... outside the Vault."

Unsure of how to fully comprehend or explain my fellow Techmarine's supposition I say, "Brother Ius believes there is a very slight, almost imperceptible curvature to the line of doors to our right."

I pause for a moment to let the information sink in.

"That might mean the size of the Omega Vault is staggeringly large in comparison to the size of Fortress Erioch itself."

"Brother Quintus, understand I am well outside my element but I speculate the Vault would make its intentions known in a more obvious fashion. Unless others object, I suggest we continue."

Eli taps the door in question with a single armored finger, letting the echo reverberate against the nearly empty hall.

"This place is not of our world, we should not expect it to follow our rules. When we reach our destination, we will know."

Hrothgar moves to the head of the lines. Raising his hands, with weapons clenched in them: "Wait! Those damned doorways are trapped!"

Decius quickly pull Syne away from the doorways the moment Hrothgar says they are trapped Be careful Brother-Syne looking around the doorway expecting something to happen.

It still holds, Emeric, what is revealed by your success perhaps only makes matters more confounding, however.

Brother Ius drones,

<<<[Again/spacial/anomalies/confirmed/this/is/not/supposition/it/is/irrefutable/fact/Brother]>>>

The Black Templar moves across the ten meters of space separating the walls of the massive corridor and confirms the Iron Hand's readings with his own auspex. He is no Adept Mathematicus, but what the bizarre dimensions of corridor suggests unleashes a torrent of conflicting principles of geometry and calculus in his primary cogitation engine. This is further compounded by the fact that the variations in measurement on either side are in all likelihood incrementing/decrementing by a fixed multiple, or even exponentially.

He lowers his head in thought, and the sacred teachings of the Priesthood of Mars, the secret theorems and postulates, are examined and discarded in his mind one after the other, each in turn; the Involute of a Circle, the blessed Spiral of Archimedeus, the Hyperbolic Spiral, all plotted curves in space and time, but in the Omega Vault each a possibility on a far more massive scale than simple vector renderings on a coordinate plane dataloom in laboratories of the Mare Erythraeum catacombs.

The techmarine looks up once again, humbled by his small place in the vast, complex, universe that only the Omnissiah himself can fully comprehend. The weighty burden of what he only fractionally infers now about the Omega Vault is both terrifying and sublime, inordinately complicated and baffling simple, all at once. It is a step into inexplicable madness and a glimpse into the radiant conformity of utter perfection.

And to think this is only the foyer, an antechamber into this clockwork cathedral of space and time.

He sighs, watching as Brother Hrothgar barks his fears about the identical doorways like a primitive burnt for the first time by the heat of an open flame. He is certain there are many, uncountable defenses to this place, but they are not meant for the Astartes. They are pilgrims here, transitory guests who are expected, summonsed even, if not wholly understood by the mystery that is the Vault. They have been called here.

Brother Drogan grasps the Space Wolf's shoulder, trying to calm him.

"Aye, Wolf, there are countermeasures that Dorn himself would be proud of, but as long as we know our place in the Vault's plans and don't stray from the path it has chosen for us, we are free from peril."

He considers it for a moment longer, before adding,

"I think."

Brother-Librarian Kuzhuk nods in assent with Brother Syne, flashing a friendly smile of kinship through filed teeth.

"I am in agreement with Brother Syne, in all the annals of the Deathwatch, the Omega Vault has only opened in time of need, according to its own whim and will; we are expected here, the path will reveal itself."

Brother Ghaeman sighs deeply, looking back and forth between the two walls, the speculation and musings of the other marines only adding to his obvious frustration with matters not martial.

"So, do we press on then or seek passage through one of these portals, which is it?"

Brother Emeric, you can attempt a Forbidden Lore (Adeptus Mechanicus) test if you choose, however, with greater understanding comes potentially greater risk to your Mechanicus religious convictions and sanity, so the choice is a voluntary one. Willful ignorance, is, after all, a virtue in the Imperium of Man.

Brother Vex, although your psychic powers seem to have no place here, your intellect and intuition are intact. You can attempt either a Hard [-20] Scholastic Lore (Archaic) test or a Difficult [-10] Perception test to gain some measure of insight.

Anyone else can attempt an Arduous [-40] Navigation skill test to best infer the best means by which to proceed.

I will not roll because my base would be at a -1.

"Let us go on. As Brother Drogan and Brother Librarian Kuzhuk says, the Vault wants us here and will reveal what is to be, when it is time."

Quintus:
Just so you know Lorm, you can always try a roll. I think we have house-ruled in the past that a '1' is always a success, and a '00' always a failure, regardless of modifiers. However, I fully understand with your luck so far if you want to save that '1' for a bigger moment.

"Confirmed, Brother Ius." Symmetry is beauty, beauty is symmetry was the old catechism recited on Mars. Although I acknowledge my fellow Techmarine, I cannot escape the nagging doubt in my gut. Magos Vyakai urged I heed such somatopsychic responses. I do so now.

Despite my limited cogitational abilities I run certain mathematical trials in my systems. The Empyrean is not present here. How does one account for that? Do I permit a certain plasticity where before there were invariables? Dare I account for such variances by assuming inconsistencies of codified orthodox axioms?

Brother Vex, Hard [-20] Scholastic Lore (Archaic) (51 -20 = 31) test is exactly successful.

Brother Vex tries to recall anything substantive regarding the lore of the Omega Vault that is housed within the non-proscribed datastacks and journals of Watch Station Erioch's Librarium, but is hard-pressed, as the majority of the requisite intelligence is sealed under remit of the Watch Commander, Chief Librarian, and Inquisitorial edict. Still, when one originates from a chapter obsessed with secrecy, one learns certain skills for ferreting out the truth.

The Dark Angel spent much of the first year following his secondment poring over the mustier journals and tomes lodged within the towering shelves of the Librarius, working among the few Lexicanium the Deathwatch had at its disposal during that time, chiefly cataloging mission reports generated within the Jericho Reach. By chance or serendipity, during one such duty, he happened upon a faded autoquill parchment-flimsy tucked into the bound journals of an unnamed techmarine of the Harbingers chapter who had entered the Omega Vault as member of Arius Hyzeron's Kill-team in the midst of an Enslaver Plague purge prior to the coming of the Crusade.

In the scribbled notes of the parchment, the techmarine described the wholly inexplicable dimensions of the Vault with alternating tones of reverence and unsease. In the context of the notes, predominantly measurements and readings that often contradicted one another, the techmarine specifically voiced a growing fear that the Omega Vault was perhaps controlled by that most blasphemous of things, a machine capable of independent thought. Very little more could be gleaned from the fragment save one thing, a small marginal notation that held no significance for Lyriel Vex at the time, and for all intents seemed to be the unhinged scribblings of a baffled techmarine:

...and once begun, the spiral never truly ends, excepting where the inexplicable consciousness resident within the Vault deigns for it to end; I am at once reminded of the nautilus shell, the fractal perfection of the sacred ratio, 1.61803399, on and on, without terminus, save where the the serpent swallows itself, Ouroboros, have we found the path---or has it found us?

Dark Angel Librarian

"Brother Emeric. Please input 1.61803399 as a filter then tell me what your reading is."

Let us see if we can see the Serpent.

Brother Emeric, Forbidden Lore (Adeptus Mechanicus) successful by four degrees, bonus degree of success for Brother Vex's successful skill test and his imparting of the information to you, for five degrees total.

Brother Emeric listens to the rasp of numbers buzz tinnily over his helmet vox as Brother-Librarian Vex relays the integers to him. He recognizes them almost immediately as the sacred number, the Golden Ratio of the Omnissiah. The proportions of this sacred number are omnipresent throughout the divine sanctity of the Standard Template Constructs; from the length of the sickle clip of an Astartes bolter in relation to the body of the weapon, to the circumference/height ratio of Gellar Field generators that allow mankind to safely traverse the Warp.

The number is a good omen, and it gives him the requisite courage to further analyze the datum he possesses, despite knowing full well what such a revelation could portend were he to fully comprehend it.

With trepidation, the Black Templar inputs the various variables, vectors, and theorems, feeling the resonating crystalline matrices of his in-built cogitation engine humming with the effort against his potentia coil.

His regret is immediate.

The impossibility forces itself upon him, and the glimpse he receives through his optical interface emulator seems to bend space, time, and dimensions in a manner that defies every aspect of his centuries of learning in the span of an instant. There can be no question of the Omega Vault's sentience; whether it is a thinking machine in its own right, or modeled after the schema of a mind possessed of near infinite brilliance. He steels himself, desiring nothing more than to tear himself away from the torrent of binary-return filling his optics. Every intricate proof that shatters the fundamental theorems of his faith, every diagram and image confounding the Adepta's sacred logic, every instant of reflection an eternity.

The barest glimpse of understanding annihilates forever every iota of technical dogma he has integrated into his worldview, while at the same time bolstering his faith in the God Emperor's divine miracles, as something such as this, utterly unsullied by the Warp in its perfection, could never be construed as true heresy.

The Omega Vault is both a mechanism of infinitely intricate complexity and a sentient being, an engine cognizant of the immeasurable variables of space-time.

Moreover, it has a purpose.

The corridor they stand in is a solid mirage, a construct of mortal senses unable to construe the true shape of what they behold. This portion of the Vault both mirrors and reflects a spiral of proportions so vast that it defies the geometric principles of the universe itself, an involute spiral, that contorts and twists around itself like a cascade of Mobius Bands, compressed against one another like an eternal spring, a watchmaker's conceit wrought by a God. As Emeric begins to understand, he feels himself slipping away, becoming as one with an understanding that both terrifies and draws him like a moth to an open flame...

...the metronomic, rhythmic compressions of the layered 'springs' in space-time, a multi-dimensional layering of possibility and outcome, a source of perpetual power that flexes and sighs with the heartbeat of the universe itself.

The techmarine lets out a warbling, echoing feedback screech that is at once agony and revelation, falling to his knees as he forces his cogitator to a hard reboot, severing the link to a flickering moment of omniscience in the span of a fateful heartbeat.

Brother Emeric, please attempt a Terrifying [-30] Fear test (against Willpower) to determine the lasting effects of this epiphany.

Seeing Emeric fall to his knee's after inputting the data. I immediately go over to check on him

"Brother are you alright?"

Eli rushes to Brother Emeric's side as he falls, but upon seeing his condition he turns to Brother Ius.

"I believe that Brother Emeric may require your talents more than mine."

"What is wrong with him, Brothers?"

Decius not knowing exactly what to do he takes this situation like there is an unknown hostile taking his bolter up and scanning for a target while closing to Brother Emeric position guarding the rest of his brothers.

I would like to trigger my demeanor, studious. Emeric, a student of Mechanicus Forbidden Lore, may have read about ancient/unknown technologies that defy easy categorization. Admittedly, seeing something on paper is nothing compared to actual experience. But arcane lore along with various dictates of the Adeptus Mechanicus *may* help Emeric gird himself from the mind-staggering nature of the Vault. As usual, happy either way with your decision. :)

Demeanor is approved. However, all Fear tests unsuccessful, Brother Emeric.

Fate points expended (don't worry, you'll get them back soon enough, so I wouldn't consider it a waste). The failed Fear test incurs Insanity Points. Rolling Insanity Points gained, 2d10 ⇒ (10, 1) = 11.

Please roll a Willpower test, Brother Emeric, to determine if the end result manifests as Trauma (DW Core Rules p. 279).

Brother Emeric collapses to the uniform floor of the Endless Corridor, and is quickly surrounded by his brethren from Kill-team Umbra and the the brothers of Kill-team Mordant.

Brother Syne, working in conjunction with the techmarine, Brother Ius, assist him to a sitting position all the while trying to render what aid they can. The Templar stares blankly ahead, his vox modulator hissing white noise. To Eli, it is as if Brother Emeric has entered a fugue state of some kind, oblivious to his surroundings, with elevated but stable life-signs.

Brother Syne, please attempt a Challenging [+0] Medicae skill test.

As the Dark Angel checks the vitals of his brother's soma, Brother Ius runs routine diagnostic analyses of Emeric's mechanica, the bionic and machine components that comprise well over half of what he is. Eli fears that these elements are the ones most severely affected by the sudden fit, but he is already observing troubling signs that there may well be collateral damage to the marine's neurological state.

Brother Emeric:
Brother Emeric opens his eyes to find himself nearly blinded by the stark white walls of a wide chamber with disturbingly indistinct dimensions. His vision seems impaired somehow, lending the glaring white sheen of what he believes are the walls (the room---is it circular? square? an ellipse?) an indistinct feel, as if they are permeable boundaries, there and not there, all at once. He is alone. A metronomic ticking sounds from somewhere nearby, and dreamlike, he turns in place to find its source, coming full circle to find an ornately carved, rectangular slab of wood standing only a meter or so in front of him, in the place where he began his search. Narrowing his eyes, what he mistook for a slab of ancient, weathered driftwood appears more distinct, resolving into an archaic, free-standing clock of old Terran design. It stands as tall as he, the upper portion carved in fluted horns, with a round glass face beneath which can be seen a circular array of Gothic numerals caressed by a trio of brass hands, the smallest of them turning inexorably round. The tall body of the clock is inlaid with whorls of dark wood in intricate patterns that confound the mind while a rectangular glass door reveals a multitude of cogs, gears, and chain pulleys wrought of precious metal. A swinging golden pendulum dominates this cavity, almost hypnotic in its perpetual motion.

Brother Ius attempts to utilize Tech-Use to mitigate the damage incurred by Brother Emeric's overloaded cogitation engine, Tech Use = 57, 1d100 ⇒ 35, success by two degrees.

Medicae test successful, Brother Syne, by two degrees. This success, coupled with Brother Ius' successful skill test will provide Brother Emeric with a +20 circumstance bonus to any upcoming tests needed in his present 'circumstances'.

Brother Syne and the Iron Hand render what aid they can, lowering Brother Emeric to a prone position as they examine him. The Apothecary adjusts the settings on his narthecium to deliver a concentrated dose of pain suppressant and resuscitex, while Brother Ius intones a litany to the Omnissiah while using a utility mechadendrite attached to his servo-harness to attempt an external, manual reboot of the Black Templar's cortex cogitation engine.

He discovered the weapons, traps and now this. This Vault seems to be toying with them. Some cunning is required. Like Decius, he stands guard over his brothers.

With a burst of speed I charge right at it and leap from an outcropping of rock. The creature's hands moves fast as lightening and catches me and I struggle in its grip. I see the dim gleam of hate in its eyes as it tries to squeeze life from my body. I lash out with my servo-arm and find purchase around its neck. The xeno growls but as its grip loosens, and I manage to bring up my chain-sword and bury it up to the hilt in the monster's stomach...

...the scene is alien, perverse, and debased. The Brood Lord reclines and preens itself as the members of its cult caress and stroke it in a disgusting lascivious display. With a frenetic suddenness that takes even the wary Hrothgar off guard, Brother Emeric wrenches himself upright from where he was reclining under the ministrations of Brother Syne and Brother Ius, his servo arm slamming backward into the floor with tremendous force to propel him to his feet. Now standing, his heavy frame totters for a moment before his mag-boots find purchase with a buzzing clang, and with a fluidity that belies his obvious confusion, he pulls his bolter from his hip before swiveling it around threateningly in a circle, his dull gaze not seeming to focus on anyone or anything else in particular, as if the Templar is blinded or not in full control of his faculties.

A resonant humming comes from somewhere in the unhinged housing of his potentia coil, and Brother Ius hastily withdraws his probing mechadendrite, not unlike a medicae conducting surgery whose anesthetized patient has abruptly come to life once again.

What will the rest of you do?

Brother Emeric:
tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.

The perfectly constant percussion of the ticking clock beats in time with the confusing flash of blurring in-helmet threat displays as Brother Emeric swivels his bolter to and fro, the smell of burning plas and charred metal filling his olfactory auto-senses.

As his supplementary cogitation engines flare to life, the bizarrely out of place clock begins to waver and fade like a heat mirage, replaced by an inexplicable gathering of the Imperium's enemies. Two Ork 'nobz hove into life before him, flanking the spot where the clock once was, their dull, predatory glares regarding him with some surprise. To his right, a trio of Dark Eldar incubi cautiously step backward, one pulling his klaive from over his shoulder, and brandishing it defensively before him. The techmarine's finger twitches on the trigger of his bolter, almost firing, but is checked when his ocular threat sensor flashes again, and he spins to his right to confront three cowled, cowering, genestealer hybrids. The foremost waves a hideously clawed forelimb before its corrupted face in a futile warding gesture. Opposed on three sides, Brother Emeric glances over his shoulder, sensing watching eyes boring into the back of his armor. Seeing what is there, he spins a quick about face to confront the greatest threat: three Chaos space marines girded in the deep blue and shining silver panoply of the Alpha Legion, the iridescent green heraldry of the striking hydra embossed upon their pauldrons. One, a tainted techmarine, even now withdraws a needle-shaped mechadendrite glistening with black ichor from the Templar's back. Deep, droning, vox-reverberated words, their meaning impossible to decipher, issue from the middle legionnaire, as if he were speaking in the corrupted tongue of the Ruinous Powers. He raises a commanding hand, his palm held open imperiously, as if compelling Emeric to surrender.

tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.tick.tock.

From all around him, impossibly, the clock still intones its inexorable, marching, cadence.

"Brother Emeric!" as Decius notices the marine confused and aiming as if trying to find enemies were there are none yet "Where there is uncertainty, I shall bring light." as Decius lowers his bolter and puts it away "Where there is doubt, I shall sow faith." as he approaches Emeric like a loving father or a brother would do "Where there is shame, I shall point atonement." posing his hand over Brother Emeric bolter and another one over his shoulder "Where there is rage, I shall show its course" then moving both his hands towards Brother Emeric head to hold it for a moment and make him look at him, really look at him as to help him regain his focus "My word in the soul shall be as my bolter in the field." as he finally pushes Brother Emeric ever so slightly like a father would encourage a son to move on and so something.

Brother Decius picks his bolter up again and again returning to his former position "You carry the Emperor's will as your torch, with it destroy the shadows that cloud your mind and eyes Brother Emeric" as Decius tries to find something himself in the shadows.

Brother Decius, please attempt either a Command, or Intimidate skill test depending upon your choice of tone.

If anyone else would like to intervene in any way, you may opt to do so now or wait until after Decius rolls his test.

It takes a second but as my system re-boots I remember the cause of my shut-down. I dare not replay my data-spools. I dare not try to comprehend the living, active sentience of this place.

My bolter is pressed into the chest-plate of my Battle-Brother. Lowering it, I know not what to say. Decius returns to his station, providing me with further words of encouragment.

The Librarian enters data onto his slate. My fellow Techmarine with mechadendrites extended for my aid. The Apothecary assisting...

"Brothers, forgive me."

"If you can see us, we are dangerous indeed". as Brother Decius chuckles "But that is nothing to the peril you face if you cannot see us." as he let's silent fall for a moment and turn to take a knee and look closer to Emeric "The warrior who acts out of honour cannot fail. His duty is honor itself." as he then pokes him in the chest with one finger "You have not failed us Brother Emeric, for even if you would have died, for it has come through duty and that it's honorable in itself." as Brother Decius begins to get up and stretches a hand towards Emeric to help him up "Seek honor as you act Brother Emeric, therefore, and you shall know no fear."

Brother Ghaeman shoots a hard glance toward the Hammer of Dorn, Brother Drogan, who finally lowers his bolter. As Brother Emeric regains himself, a relieved silence falls over the two Kill-teams now that the tense standoff has concluded without bloodshed, in no small part due to Brother Decius' cool-headed, and timely intervention.

As Brother Ius and Brother Syne complete their respective ministrations and diagnostic examinations on the techmarine, Brother Ghaeman tersely asks the question that all his brethren now consider but have yet dared to speak aloud.
