@Balfic-graa, how can Dorn have nipped the heresy in the bud? Was Horus' problem so apparent as early as Ullanor?
First Heretic suggests that the Chaos Powers have been masterminding the Heresy for centuries prior to that event.

To a lesser extent valuable time was lost when Dorn detained the loyalist Death Guard forces, and was slow to inform Terra. It wasn't til Malcador got involved that defenses, and plans were put in action.
More importantly it was Dorn's actions that pushed two of his brothers toward Chaos. (Night Lords, Iron Warriors). Without there support it would have been less likely Horus would have made his gambit.
While Horus was the one who whispered into Russ's ear about how to handle Magnus and Prospero. We shouldn't forget it was Mortarion, and Russ that had Magnus put on trial for sorcery at the Council of Nikea. The Emperor acted as Arbitor, and only delivered sentence...
Can talk fluff all day Lol.
Radavel |
But you have to agree that the actions of Amon (Magnus' equerry and a thrall of the Chaos powers) at the trial at Nikaea, i.e. attacking a Custodes, that truly swung the balance against Magnus.
Dorn's actions vs. Night Haunter, as narrated in the Audiobook The Dark King / Lightning Tower, did influence Night Haunter siding with Horus but Night Haunter was predisposed to side with a strong authoritarian figure as shown by his actions in Nostramo.
Hehehe, love the heresy stories myself :-)

The final Requisition list for Mission to Tantalus has been posted. Altogether 349 points were spent out of 350 available. I believe the Munitorium would be proud!
Please check the final tally on the Requisition page to make certain everything is correct.
EDIT: Just noticed your last post, Lorm. I believe if you forgo the Dipole Mag-lock you can afford both a clip of Hellfire and a clip of Kraken rounds. Your call though, let me know and I'll make the edit.
Also, if I am counting correctly, Quintus has three votes to lead this mission, one more will be a majority consensus, after that I will post the appropriate Oath as well.

If no no one else minds or wants anything else, sure. I just didn't want to shortchange anyone's equipment req.

Seven chronos are a bit much, I just lumped them in with the vox-caster. Let's say two chronos, one for Quintus as mission lead, and one for Emeric as the tech-priest, leaving us with 6 more points to spend on grenades and the like.
So what do you think for the grenades? Three frag and three krak? Six of one or the other? Just let me know which and who will take them and I'll update the Requisition.
Also, now that we know Quintus will be taking the lead on the baptismal mission of Kill-Team Umbra, which Oath will it be?
Lorm Dragonheart |
Remember, we all get 3 krak and frag grenades for 0 req pts. The oath I would prefer would be the Oath of the Weapon, but from what I could tell Quintus would only have 1 cohesion point. This being the case, I will take the Oath of Astartes, so that we will have 3 cohesion points.

Actually, we'd have at least 4(from your 48 Fellowship). So, yeah. We might be better off with the Oath of the Weapon.
Eradico Pravus |
Lorm, either is a good choice but I'm now thinking Oath of the Weapon would be a better call. The starting team cohesion will be 5 (Fellowship bonus + rank) and as an Ultramarine your squad defensive mode allows you to restore team cohesion once per session (free!). Hopefully we'll meet some objectives along the way which will restore cohesion... Emeric's tabard allows +1 restored cohesion when the primary objective is met.
Either way, though, we get to kill bugs and blow stuff up. :)

Six more points of Requisition, next post gets to spend them.
I've updated the wiki with the selected oath, Oath of the Weapon.
Recite with me, if you will, the Catechism of the Xenos...

Tomorrow night the Sons of Jericho campaign begins.

I like Legion; on the other hand, I am having a hard time reading Mechanicus.

Alright, Bal, added the Cartograph for you and an extra frag grenade for Brother Caledonii. That comes out to 350 of 350 spent, well done.
At some point today I will look over the Cohesion, Squad Mode/Solo Mode rules and consider best how to track this in game. We'll use the OOC post headers (i.e. [Squad Mode]/[Fire For Effect]) once in combat, but I'd like to have an additional means by which to track it on the wiki as well, which will probably use the .pdf form from the book in some capacity, but I'm also open to suggestions.
You Cohesion should be fairly decent to start, if I'm not mistaken, it looks like it will be around 6 or so, factoring in Quintus' Fel bonus (+4) and Ultramarines Chapter Ability (+1) along with Hrothgar's armor bonus (+1).
Balfic-graa |
No worries Eradico. You would be hard pressed to match a player who was in Rooks last game.
Good luck everyone, it should be alot of fun. Just give me a bit to get a handle on the psychic powers. I suspect I will be calling Lorm alot over that...

Hey, Bal, Lorm, looks like FFG has a way you can assuage your guilt over playing loyalist space marines:
An interesting development. I was wondering if they would sit tight with the three major 40K lines or expand again following their success, I guess we have the answer to that question now.
I'll be posting more to Sons of Jericho tonight after 8PM or so EST.
Balfic-graa |
I stumbled on that great news today also hehehehe.
There is also a good movie you guys might:
ULTRAMARINES the movie; it's and animated 70 min. long and pretty decent
Yeah I've seen it. Its decent, just waiting for the non-special edition to come out so I can pick it up.
@Rad, remember no matter what you call a Flesh Hound, its still just a Khorne Dog...

Cool. Thanks for the encouragement. But also feel free to blast me (in character, of course) with both barrels if the roleplaying calls for it! I couldn't help but wonder if you were going easy with me after my initial post yesterday.

Don't worry Eradico, if I feel Quintus feels he has to say something to Emeric, he will. My character in the DH game has no problem taking someone to task. Quintus won't be as harsh, but he will still try to lead his brother marines in the right direction.

OK Eradico. Just a reminder to everyone else as well, don't forget that you have the opportunity to trigger your Demeanor, whether Personal or Chapter, once a session, gaining a benefit equivalent to spending a Fate Point.
Your fellow battle-brothers will then decide by acclamation, yea or nay, thumbs up or down, if the Demeanor has been invoked in a circumstance that is dramatically appropriate. In this case the applicable bonus is doubled.

I'm taking some time today to put together a separate page for the wiki that will have all of the relevant Cohesion rules, Solo Mode/Squad Mode information, and each marine's current status/ability on it for a quick reference during play.
Let me know if there is anything else you would like to see on this page that would help during play.

Rook, this isn't for the wiki but a separate idea.
At the risk of being pedantic (maybe too late!) but I'd like to try (for myself only) to track my ammo on my posts where my primary weapon is fired. Since I'm taking only one clip of special ammo my post might look something like this:
===========================
[squad mode]/[fire for effect]
I fire three rounds on full-auto at the tyranid, etc....
[std]/[std]/[krk]
[19]/[28]/[20]
============================
With the fire selector on my bolter I will have three clips to choose from, two standard and one kraken.
I know you earlier posted that you will ballpark the ammo in general but I wouldn't mind giving this a go. I wouldn't expect everyone to do it either... I'm really just thinking out loud here.
Again I don't want to bog down play with minutiae so tell me if I'm being loopy.
