Game Master Patrick Bailey

The dead devour the living. The living do what they can to survive. Simple as that.

This is a recorded message, all prospective survivors are intended to report back here and check in for details on how to evacuate.

I'm low on time now and will report in again later. This area is no longer safe.

I repeat, for those who are still alive...

Check in again for future details.

is this an open recruitment?

private games need to be identified as such.

Ah, thank you for that Detail. Yes I had only intended for a handful of invites.

Is there a particular way to do that? Or is it merely something I should mention in the title?

it is a good idea to add it to the title as well as the first post as well to reinforce the information.

Whispers. That's how they started, quiet rumors. Little bumps in the night that didn't affect the common folk. Any attempts to get the word out on what was happening, were silenced swiftly. They thought they had it under control. No need to cause a panic. But if they only knew the damage their silence would cause...

If the people were more prepared then more of them might have survived. But instead they were devoured or turned into these things. These horrible savage dead things. Unaware of what type of horrible nightmare soon comes their way, a group of young people are in the throes of celebrating a friends birthday. A day to remember and appreciate life. But soon they will face death, in theirs and the worlds darkest hour...

Rules:

I have a few PCs already just looking for one or two more.

Races:

Humans only

Classes

No magic or psionic classes

Equipment:

Minimal. No swords or spears you start with very basic things like a lighter, flashlight, pocket knife things like that and search for better stuff. No armor.

If you don't like the idea of starting from scratch equipment wise then this is not the game for you.

Currency:

Money will mean nothing in this world. Its all about bartering.

Setting:

This game will Be take place in Eureka, California. and have real world rules. (No magic or psy powers). I'll have a map up soon. Some will start at a birthday party. Some may be traveling through Eureka. (That's the start for those who do not live there IRL)

Style of game:

This will be a zombie survival game. With the main focus being survival. Scavenging, fortifying a base, hunting, all that stuff. Roleplaying is a big component of this game. You will be playing as yourself. You do not need to act exactly like you, but you will be playing you.

Builds:

20 point buy. Level 3 characters. Classes will be pathfinder but with modern twists. Try to pick something close to what you would be in real life. Your occupation will be whatever it is IRL.

Preference:

Post rate should be at least one post a day. Don't need to write essays or anything, (Though feel free to be more detailed) But at least a simple post to keep things flowing.

Any questions? Feel free to ask.

Ehhhh....maybe.

Not sure about using Pathfinder, since survival isn't really supported by the system. Is magic and all that still going to be present in the game?

No magic. I'll add a bit of homebrew to make the survival work. I'll let you know soon what I got.

I have seen this GM take pathfinder and make it work in a survival setting. He did a solid job

I'm going to be completely honest here: I don't have a lot of faith in the idea of using pathfinder for a modern setting.

What about classes with Su or Sp abilities? Or is this supposed to be a hyper-realistic endeavor?

Are there any houserules I can look out right off hand? Or even just some concepts? I expect there are a great many major changes to get something like this to work.

Wellllll I am super low on time, BUT, if it's 1 post a day, I can do it for you guys xD

I literally just quit everything except the game I'm GM'ing *cause I'd feel like an ass if I did that* cause I just landed a job out the blue!

Made my own class- PM me your email and I'll send it to you.

What level, etc. etc. etc.

@Johnny everyone always makes it seem so complicated, but if you just change the light - heavy armor to body armor of the modern age, change spells to tech skills that could be similar instead, it's not that hard with a little tweaking and time put in xD

Tony! Yeah I get the time crunch thing. We will just put you someplace where a if you can only post once a day (cuz it would be nice if folks posted a bit more when they can) That you can be affective even with limited posts. Maybe you can run what happens at base or be a guard or something. OOOORRR... A lazy slob! The level is 3 btw. And simple items to start like lighters or knives, it seems. No armor either. Hardcore it looks to be. And that's groovy with me.

Yeah, I'm going to disagree. Pathfinder is a hardwired high-fantasy system. It takes a whole lot more than a little tweaking to make that not the case.

Off the top of my head things like combat, skill points, HP/AC, diseases, firearms (which don't really work well, besides), equipment in general, movement, alignment...well, you get the idea. They all would need to be looked at; some things like combat and HP would need to be rebuilt practically from the ground up.

Basically, the game isn't really designed to adequately represent a modern or even semi-realistic environment. Which is fine, I'm not saying it isn't, I'm just wary of using the system for something it wasn't designed to do.

Not to be overly negative either. I'm open to possibilities, just a little on the skeptical side.

Based on the base/ guard description, that would work perfect.

I am studying actuarial science w/ economics in real life so, math and strats are kinda my thing

I'm going to PM you the class I made there Tall Tale

I think the sounding too negative ship has sailed, pal. But I do understand your concerns. Like I said I have seen this GM make this sort of thing work.

Cool.

Fair enough.

This sounds like a good game to run using Mutants and Masterminds, Savage Worlds, or D20 Modern or something.

The Exchange

Finished a majority of the character, still needs a little work.

I'm not planning on my character using a gun- we going with just basic available melee weapons?

Same for how we are doing AC, since so far no armor <3

bump

Hmmm...... Good points all around.

I suppose that a straight Pathfinder crossover would be a little much for this game, given the more realistic setting.

So let's change course and go to D20 modern.

With the switch to D20 modern I'd be interested as well. Also I usually make several posts a day.

I am cool with D20 modern.

Alright then. I should remind everyone once again that the characters should be more or less based off of yourselves to help immerse everyone in the realism. No need to post specific information, and we don't necessarily need your life story. Some key features or highlights will do. Granted the level 3 will break this somewhat but I trust you can make it work. Then once the "party" is formed we'll begin.

BA-BUMP!

I'm toying with making a fast or smart character. I am a Technical Trainer with a Black Belt in TKD and have done Jujitsu for a while. I taught self defense in college. I'm not sure which way I'm going to go. I'm not a big guy at all but I'm a soccer player as well so I'm pretty quick.

Any suggestions?

Hmm, honestly just be a fast character and take the martial arts defense, combat expertise, and improved Trip? For your talent go with improved speed. You'll probably pick up improved unarmed strike from your profession.

Well, I'm willing to learn how to play D20 Modern (been trying a lot of new systems lately, what's one more?), but not sure how I feel about playing myself in the zombie apocalypse. Tentative interest, will decide later.

The Exchange

Will reformat and report in a minute GM!

http://www.youblisher.com/p/236282-D20-Modern-Core-Rulebook/

For anyone having trouble finding the actual pathfinder outline to Modern, I finally found the rulebook xD

Here is the link to the rules. For the lazy folk.

The Exchange

All set writing background now, but other than that, should be ready to go.

Says a class gets 2 bonus feats at first level- wasn't sure if, since we are human, that means a level 3 will have 3 feats, or 4 xD

I was going to make fast character, if that helps you decide. Also we have a charismatic hero, so a smart would be a nice addition.

How many PCs you looking to have total GM? Four to five?

Currently 4, with a 5th pending.

Here is my guy GM. Let me know what you think.

OK I'll make myself smrt...I mean smart ;-)

Just out of curiosity are we still utilizing the point buy just highlighting the areas that we are personally good at?

Here's my character. I made him a Smart character and tried to stay as close to myself as possible. I used the original point buy above so it's not exactly the same but it's pretty close.

Yeah, the point buy above is about what I want. I did consider a 15 point buy, but felt that may have been too little.

Here is the Character sheet porting over from PCgen is irritating me.

Diplomacy+Bartered Bribe: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

Hey would you, uh, PLEASE not kick me in the balls?

Well since you asked nicely...

Though don't actually worry- unlike some annoying CHA based characters, I don't bully teammates into anything lmfaoooo

Hey - I've just got an invite about this game and I'm eager to give it a try.

Meanwhile, GM, it seems that you're already using the charts via Defense Adjustments - when I sent you the earlier PM it was because I was assuming you were using the Core Rules from Pathfinder instead - sorry about that; I should have read ahead :)

Also, I don't know if it will matter much, but I find this link to work pretty well for most of my d20 Modern Campaigns: Link here

Meantime; I'll try to have something up soon!

Hey this is my friend above me that I mentioned LNDM.

Understood, once our new arrival is set up we will resume game.
