Sefu: there's a person in the way. I'm going to rule pushing them out of the way is a CMB vs CMD move that provokes AoO.
I'll roll for you (to keep things moving). Hope that is okay.
AoO: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16missed by 1! Once you're enlarged that would have hit!
CMB: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Sefu enlarges, pushing one of the people on the stair off to the side and into Ophelia's area.

Sefu! You're up!
Sefu Warlockswalk |
Sefu switches the gun to his right hand and punches the vampire with his left;
PUNCH to hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
PUNCH dmg: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 5) + 10 = 19
He then follows up the strike with a headbutt.
HEADBUTT to hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
HEADBUTT dmg: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (3, 1) + 10 = 14
"Thanks Castor."
Few things;
First both of those have power attack, I don't deal +10 dmg normally.
Second I think you can, with improved unarmed strike, attack with any body part, if not Sefu will just drop his loaded gun the 6ft to the floor.
Third Castor sounds like caster and it feels like I am calling you by your professional skills as though you would call me brawler.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Smacking people with random bodyparts are a core feature of the monk's flurry - and thus probably part of the brawler's furry too!
Darkest Corners GM |
Laurestine holds
Brawlers can use multiple body parts to hit in mu game :)
The Vampire struggles to hold on to unlife and the ceiling as Sefu's enlarged blows all but destroy it.
Desperately he lashes out at Sefu
slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
But is too disoriented to get through Sefu's experienced defences

Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Seeing that Sefu seems to have the vampire under control Ophelia moves to suppress the grunts instead. She gives the one prone on the floor a calculating glance before stepping back to get room to swing her weapon. With cold mechanical precision she brings the blunt end of the spear down at the crawling man.
To Hit, non-lethal: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 11 + 2 - 4 = 29
Damage, non-lethal: 1d8 + 10 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 2 + (3) = 20
*Crack!*
The steel clad end strikes the man with the sickening sound of breaking bones. The clockwork recoils as if in chock and her glassy eyes go wide. There was blood at the blunt end of the spear. Her voice rings out, tainted by both chock and shame.
"...I didn't mean that..."
Move to Study the prone grunt, Five foot step away, standard to strike him & activating studied strike to end the study and deal 1d6 extra damage
Also - can one neglect to attempt to confirm a crit? If not, I think Ophelia might have accidentally injured the person real bad ... x3 damage ought to be some lethal overflow!
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Confirm: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 2 - 4 = 27
Extra damage, not so non-lethal: 2d8 + 20 ⇒ (1, 2) + 20 = 23
Aouch!
Well, it seems as if my dices cooled down barely in time. 43 damage in total...
Darkest Corners GM |
had to look up the rules on this. Double the pawns HP and con combined with room to spare so that renders them. :/
I feel bad... but on the other hand it makes sense that Ophelia wouldn't know her own strength with bull's strength and overcharge both running.
For the record I would let people use less than their full strength on damage but it would need to be declared before the blow lands.
The last human flails uselessly at the enlarged Sefu
attack: 1d20 + 0 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 0 - 4 = 8

Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Most definitely fair - and appropriately for a magiced up gearbox : )
Castor Drey |
"My dear colleagues, be welcomed to close this party..." says Castor.
Delay action for the time being.
Sefu Warlockswalk |
With a punch to the vampire
VPunch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
VDMG: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 1) + 8 = 11
and a kick to down the last man
MKick: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
MNLDMG: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 3) + 8 = 14
Sefu finishes them both off.
"Party's over people, now beat it"
The kick at the man was Non-Lethal btw. I am not like the clockwork /Raises accusing eyebrow
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Hey! It started in the non-lethal track ... just that x3 crit weapons do their thing when they crit ... :P
Castor Drey |
"As the vampire came from above, I recommend going up. We can search this floor afterwards" Castor proposes.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Ophelia still looked down at the mangled corpse at her feet. The magical grease on the floor mixed with dark blood. Gently the clockwork poked the dead man with the blunt end of her spear, searching for a reaction - a sign of life. There was none of course. She sighed, a long drawn out sound that echoed within her copper shell.
"It is broken. Why do they break so easily? Too fragile ..."
Her voice rang out, hollow and inquisitive. This is a bad thing. So sad. She sighed again. The old owner of the spear would not be happy if he heard this. With some effort of will she tore her eyes away from the broken body and looked up the stairs instead.
"You are most likely right Castor. They were most likely sent out to investigate the noise our first encounter created."
I second the motion of going up =)
Darkest Corners GM |
Up it is
The floor Ophelia is on seems empty - or at least no-one has opened a door onto the corridor.
The group determines to ascend, quickly, as the durations on their spells tick down.
The next floor up is the same; a corridor runs the length.
This is the second floor (ground, first, second) that the group saw eyes peeking from. For the record there is one more floor above this.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
I assume we got up on the stairs to the right (since they appear "round")? =)
Castor Drey |
Castor dismissed the Grease spell before the group started going upstairs :-)
"This is the floor the person was peeking from. We should start opening the doors from the closest one, as there is no telling how many suspects are here now. I will ready my crossbow and keep an eye on the stairs, unless you need me somewhere else. Do you agree?" Castor gives his advise and starts loading his crossbow after putting the wand back into the spring loaded wrist sheath.
Darkest Corners GM |
Castor: Oops, sort of assumed that! Missed the chance to be hilarious.
Ophelia: Indeed. The other stairs are a sort of fire stairs; a rickety wooden staircase on the outside of the building with one way opening doors (barred on the inside).
Let's say one more round? Been about 30 seconds since the sergeant sent you up; good time!
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
"Agree"
The Clockwork replies in a neutral tone and with a mechanical nod. She was glad to have something else on her mind for a while.
Sefu Warlockswalk |
Sefu nods as to agree with this reasoning and moves to the door on the left.
"Whats your limit Castor? Will you have another bigness spell ready?"
"Also Ophelia, what else can you do, anything that will help us before opening this door?
While saying that Sefu readies on the furthest side of the door so that when opened he and 2 others may attack or see inside.
Castor Drey |
"I have one more scroll, but as it lasts a full minute, you should be all right for the next fight if we are quick."
You are still large so you might be squeezing. It is 3 rounds since I cast it by my reckoning, so there should still be 7 rounds available. The thing is I got lost in the overall round number, so I have no idea when another PfE spell must be cast. GM, can you help me here?
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
"Nothing unless you wish to end up like the man on the stairwell ..." the Clockwork chimes sadly. She stares a moment on the wall before blinking and picking herself up, continuing in a helpful hopeful tune "I can check that the door is not rigged?" She leans in to inspect the lock and hinges, looking for signs of tampering.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 ⇒ (16) + 13 + (3) = 32
I have yet to pick up the infusion discovery/talent. Next level probably : ) (shield extracts - yey!)
Until then, she is probably most similar to a rogue with minor alchemy and studied combat instead of sneak attack.
Unless someone is up for Silent Image shenanigans? Bought a wand of that really nice spell !
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
"Not rigged. But there is blood - see - and an attempt at cleaning it away has been done. To make it look tidy after feeding perhaps?"
Ophelia is back to her old analytical self, leaning in close and observing the speck of blood in detail. After humming for a moment longer, she straightens and puts her cold hand on the handle.
"Blood on the handle comes from blood on the hand which comes from blood of ... A servant wiping away a puddle? No, they would not continue to leave stains in their masters lair. The blood of a victim? Or injured warrior? Only one way to know for sure. Shall we?"
She motions towards the door with her spear-holding hand and readies to open it.
Darkest Corners GM |
this is going to be anticimlactic, so I'm going to assume you open it.
This room is empty. 1 down, 5 to go.
It looks as if this was a bedroom, perhaps for a couple. There's obviously been a fight here; blood stains the wall liberally and a chair is smashed to pieces.
The room has also been looted; undamaged furniture, including the bed, has been removed. There's a rectangle of lighter wood under where the bed must've been. Clothes have been strewn about, and there is a faint red footprint on a white shirt.
There is a window in this room. Perched on the sill is a carved wooden statuette of a mother cradling a baby.
You can move on to another room or spend a round examining this one. Don't forget spell durations are ticking down on enlarge and protection from evil.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Ophelia spends a short moment studying the room. First she looked at the stains of blood and the signs of struggle, trying to piece together the fight in her mind. She gives the window and clothes only the briefest of glances. The statue however, she affords stares at for almost half the time, a bit curious. A idol of prayer or protection? Perhaps a ward? Or something mundane. The small new one his held by the bigger one. How strange.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) + 13 + (1) = 28
"So empty. Next?"
Castor Drey |
"Let us examine the rooms in order." Castor says. He now has a crossbow loaded with a silver bolt.
GM, regarding the durations, do you have an idea, how much time has passed?
Darkest Corners GM |
if you guys want to say 'open doors till we see someone, otherwise close them and move on, I'll roll multiple.
For the record this appears to be a small couple's room. An alchemically treated queen down mattress - a prestige item - is left lying against the wall, torn nearly in half.
A flurry of feathers near the door suggest that the mattress - and bed - were used in a futile attempt to barricade this door shut against something in the corridor.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
"Nothing still."
The Clockwork heads towards the next door.
Yeah, that could work : ) Unless there is something really interesting in the room we find, I'm okay with heading trough multiple!
Castor Drey |
I agree, lets fast forward unless there is something of note.
Darkest Corners GM |
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d3 ⇒ 2
1d2 ⇒ 2
Huh, wierd rolls. The door you were looking for was the one I rolled a 1 on (rather than just arbitrarily put it at the end) but ends up the same anyway. Given that though...
Three doors opened. All the rooms empty, though a room of mirrors almost led to combat.
Now one room remains.
The group is poised outside the door. This time there has to be something in there.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
"Only one left ..." The clockwork announces "The source of our infestation - or one step closer to it atleast - must be behind that door. Any more preparations ?"
Castor Drey |
Castor is keeping in the back of the group, crossbow ready.
He used the wand again as needed during the search. It is now safely hidden in his spring loaded wrist sheath.
Darkest Corners GM |
break down door: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 = 22
In what has become procedure, when Ophelia gives the all clear Sefu tries to open the door - and it quickly becomes apparent it is unlocked but barred in some way.
A quick shoulder is almost enough to open it, but even Sefu's magically augmented bulk is insufficient.
Castor Drey |
Do we have an engineer?
"The door is very resilient. Sadly my knowledge of structures and furnishing is lacking."
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Put one rank in every Know skill, just for the off chance : )
"Hmm" The clockwork expels a musical hum and leans in closer to the door. Systematically she prods and probes it for a few seconds before announcing her judgement.
Know(Eng): 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 6 + (4) = 18
"It is most likely nailed shut as well. None of the other doors had any other exits - so whomever sealed the door is probably inside. Do note that a vampire would have been able to assume mist form and slip trough ... But it might be something else. Give me a moment to dismantle the hinges, that should make the opening easier."
She pulls out an impressive collection of tools ranging from small picks and screwdrivers to a large, formless rod of metal and gets to work.
Perception, looking for traps (+2 bonus from Trapfinding): 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 13 + 2 + (5) = 22
Disable Device, dismantle hinges and such to make forcing the door up easier(+2 masterwork tool bonus): 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 13 + 2 = 33
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
We'll see how long it lasts ^^
But, in the interest of not having everyone tear their hair out, I'll drop some hints/pointers
Ophelia hums a pleasant tone as she works. Her glassy eyes are fixed on her tools and she is utterly focused. It looks like she is going to pick apart the door in its components before she is done.
"Hmm hmmm hmm hmmmmmmmm hmmm"
Basically, she is going to turn the door into a pile of planks if you let her. She likes to tinker with stuff and is quite persistent and thorough.
But as she works, she also weakens the door at a steady pace. So perhaps someone wants to engage in some percussive engineering (ie batter down the door)?^^
Darkest Corners GM |

After about 30 seconds 5 rounds Sefu impatiently gestures Ophelia aside and tries again
The door - now hingless - flies into the room and falls down onto the door. A barrage of bolts fly out at the now visible Sefu.
Three find their mark as the enormous man dives behind the doorway, and another only just misses.
"Six of them. Hiding behind a barricade at the back. Seems like they're protecting something." he coughs out.

Order is: Ophelia, Crossbolters, Sefu, Castor.
No-one is flat footed.
Ophelia: you're up
The room is the same size as all the others.
In a corner there is are two thick kitchen tables that have been formed into an improvised barrier.
You can just see the tips of a crossbow as it is being frantically reloaded: whoever is behind this barrier is small.
There seems to be a box or something behind the barrier as well.
Castor Drey |
The sergeant and Laurestine are gone? Or just the last ones in initiative order.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
I can't seem to be able to find the map anymore?
Ophelia steps aside and lets Sefu have a go at the door but with a slight frown on her porcelain face. But that quickly disappears as the door is swiftly removed and is replaced by worry as Sefu sinks aside with three feathered shafts in him. She waits a moment to see that he is stable before stepping out in the doorway. I won't bleed as him. With another determined step she strides inside, reaching for her sap and calling out to the occupants.
"City Watch! Stand down your weapons!"
Suspecting that they might not be neither able nor willing to comply she quickens her pace towards the tables.
Move (double move if needed) inside towards the barrier. Free action to draw sap also

not sure this one needs it though. 20ft wide, 25ft deep.
Two ten foot tables across the end - so 10ft from the door.
Ophelia: simple move will take you there. Acrobatics if you want to jump the tables.
@Castor: if/when Laurestine rolls init then I'll put her in.
Three halflings with crossbows and three teenagers, all with small but heavy crossbows are desperately reloading. Behind them is an ornately carved chest.
Ophelia 'Springs' Hale |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Huh. Look at that!
Ophelia springs over the tables and land with a heavy *thump* on the other side.

All but one misses, and that one's dagger lodges in a joint for 1.
The furthest crossbolter whispers words in draconic and mist starts to fill the room.
[dice=perception DC 15]
Very soon after the spell streams of mist starts to fall from two holes in the the ceiling like a vaporous waterfall

Wand of color spray, DC 11. Castor tries to aim the 15 ft cone so that most of the crossbolters are affected hoping he can miss his companions. As this is probably not likely (and I can not judge that as the map is not updated), let us hope the Guard saves and the others will not
