Daina looks in amazement as the giant monstrosity falls. We did it. She leans back, not exactly tired due to most of her involvement being pre-fight spells.

She watches the fight with excitement as fear, both interested in the fight as well as fearing what is in store for them next.

But when it concludes with a massive explosion and the death of the sorcerer-king she openly stares. Her brain locks for a moment, but then begins firing rapidly. We could flee, or help fight, or say something...the last is the most risky but has the greatest potential outcome if it works...the second is also dangerous but doesn't put us as the face of the rebellion... She looks to her companions. <<Somebody should say something...>> They sense the anxiety from her and she knows that she might be a good choice for this, but she's nervous about doing it herself.

Raun clambers atop the corpse of the enormous creature to showboat for the crowd for as long as she's allowed, pumping her hammer into the air despite the familiar lassitude that follows in the battle-fury's wake. She is still grinning enthusiastically when they are ushered from the arena, though she does drink thirstily in the cool corridors.

She watches the ensuing match, bellowing her encouraging, quickly settling on the half-giant and elf pair, enthusiastically voicing her support. Her deafening cheers are stilled when the attack is suddenly launched, and it takes her several moments to recall their purpose in coming here. She watches impartially as the spear impales the evil sorcerer king, but quickly looks back to the surviving warriors in the arena.

<<I'm going to help gladiators. Will bring back to help hold gate.>> she says, already reaching up to grasp her new amulet. Unless their protest is swiftly voiced she fades from awareness, as she peers over the side of the balcony.

Raun would have been hogging space on the balcony so she could holler and cheer at the previous spectacle. She will activate the amulet of shadows to gain hide in plain sight. Depending on how high above the balcony they are she will either vault over the side to land in the arena (if less than say... 30 feet), or tie her rope(s) onto the railing and start climbing down. Woki mutters prayers to the spirits as the spear goes sailing through the air toward the great evil one as he manifests his true form. The spear looked some what familiar though it was hard to place in the heat of the moment. As wood pierces flesh, Woki suddenly lets out a loud whoop. In the following silence of the arena as every citizen and slave of Tyr held baited breath, the halfling starts chanting very softly in the Halfling tongue, calling forth the spirits to protect them from the great evil dragon.

<<Quickly now. Great evil one is wounded. This is the most dangerous time to be in this place. We must over power the ones in black and hold the south-facing passage.>>

Templars begin rushing onto the arena floor from all directions, but the mul and his partner are already heading toward the west exit, their hands spread in surrender. The tone in the stands appears to be taking a turn for the worse as Raun activates her amulet and slips over the edge of the balcony.

Below, only a few templars remain near the east gate, but the path west toward the departing gladiators is thick with black-robed sentinels and centurions.

Tension grows as Kalak's screams continue to echo. The templars still in the halls to the east begin moving slowly toward the gate, which was already barred by the time you finished with your fight.

What's everyone else doing as Raun wanders off?

Raun frowns after the Mul who'd thrown the spear, he must have been an ally of Ness. She had been intending to help him but it seemed the templar were faster, and she knew even she couldn't fight through that many. She turns her attention to the centerpiece of the previous fight, looking to see what happened to the half giant and his partner who'd caught her eye earlier, heading in their direction.

So it's the east gate we have to hold now then?

Moving before anyone has a chance to say something, Raun activates her amulet and drops over the side of the balcony, landing softly in the sand.

Templar Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Templars are milling around all over the arena floor, but no one seems to have noticed her so far, thanks to the shadowy haze that seems to surround her form. The mul and his partner have disappeared through the west gate of the arena, but the half-giant gladiator and his wounded elf partner remain, surrounded by a crowd of templars that includes several centurions and a pair of half-giant guards. To the east, a centurion and a lone templar are the only ones guarding the iron portcullis that hangs over the east tunnel leading from the sands to the arena interior.

Seeing Raun slip over the rail, Woki quietly casts a protective spell over the remaining members of the group.

Gorkhan's ruse, meanwhile, draws the attention of two templars, who look worriedly over their shoulders, giving the assassin any number of openings should he wish to put a knife in one or both of the men.

"I don't know ... they haven't told us anything. I think ... I think everyone should just stay where they are for the moment," one of the templars says, clearly wavering. "I don't ... I'm not sure. Maybe we should call one of the senior templars to come down from the balconies. Should we unbar the gates?"

The rest of the group crowds into the hallway behind Gorkhan, eyes on the nervous templars and ready for action.

Gorkhan's Bluff has put the nearby templars off guard. You have a chance at a surprise round when you decide to act. Otherwise, the templars seem to be paralyzed with indecision.

Here's the Update Map.

What's the range on Nnn's collective? Seem to recall it being fairly large, so Raun's probably still connected. She wouldn't be paying much attention to what you guys are up to though unless someone addresses her directly :p

Raun surveys the Templars surrounding the gladiators, frowning at the numbers. With two of her own kind and two of the tougher magicy templars it would be quite a challenge. The half-giant and elf had fought well though, if they fought with her, then maybe they could get free to the gate and fight with the others there...

Either way she wasn't going to learn anything by hanging back, she moves slowly forward, watching the Templar carefully, trying to figure out what is going on as she approaches the ziggurat.

What's the mood of the Templar around the Half-giant and elf? Are they questioning them? threatening them? or are they as passive and confused as the ones by the gate?

Gorkhan nods his agreement with the templar that had spoken. "Maybe you're right and the gates should be unbarred. We don't want any of the peaceful law-abiding citizens to get caught up in all this. An orderly exit for them may be in order. And I'm sure the seniors are keeping things under control in the balconies. I doubt they would spare the distraction of handling a common evacuation."

"I well, um, I suppose that makes sense," the templar says. "We were told to keep the gates sealed until the final ceremonies but the senior templars had no way of knowing that the king ... um, the king would be attacked."

Turning, the black-robed templar moves to the gate and calls over two other to help lifting the bar. In the crowd, Nnn'tkklik'l telepathic prompting is causing a stir. In seconds, a crowd of several dozen spectators begins pushing down the stairs toward the gate. A few templars begin shouting at the commoners but only to get them into a more orderly line, not to stop them. Gorkhan and the rest of the group follow, staying out of the way but close to the gate while the evacuation begins.

Templars' Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

In the arena, Raun ambles closer to the group of templars, still undetected. Several have their spears lowered as a centurion argues with the half-giant gladiator, who has dropped his axe to cradle his fighting partner. The elf woman is badly wounded - her ribs shine in the sun where a chunk of meat has been tore free from her side. She's alive, but not for long.

"Come Gaanon. You must move below," the centurion says. "A healer will come for the elf."

"Raffaela, worm!" the half-giant roars. "She has earned her name. Leave me alone. I know you've called the deadhearts, not a healer."

Ooh, that was close. Hmm, tricky situation here. Easily in range of the collective though.

Raun frowns to herself as she draws close enough to hear the argument. She could get close enough to whisper to the half-giant but he'd hardly be able to respond, and would just increase the chance that she was noticed. She could pour her healing potion down the elf's throat, but that seemed even less likely to work.

<<Nnn-person. Can you make mind talky with gladiators? Elf dieing, think if heal her then maybe Gaanon help. They win match, not fair if they not get reward.>> the mind voice carries with it about the most emotion you've heard from the half-giant as she peers up at the pair.

Nnn'tkklik'l tells the commoner <<help black cloaked ones form line so they not beat you>>

After that quip, Nnn'tkklik'l drops the commoner from the collective and reaches out to the fallen elf, pulling the wounded one into the collective. (if she is passed out, should be no save i think) He will manifest Halt Death on her by expending psionic focus and concentrating to hide the display.

Halt Death:

Halt Death: The mender can target one member of his collective that is dying (at -1 hp or less). That creature is automatically stabilized and does not lose any further hit points. If the creature later takes damage, it continues dying normally.

if we are on initiative, then delay this until next round:

Nnn'tkklik'l then reaches out to the half-giant gladiator, attempting to pull him into the collective as well. In his attempt, he sends an image of himself forward into the gladiator's mind, stating, <<Hi friend. I fought in arena battle before you. Maybe can help your elf. Then you help my half-giant friend. Is OK?>>

Grit is tempted to move to help the gladiators but chooses to believe that they have a role in a larger plan and that role is to keep this gate open. He looks for a way to secure it open or prevent it from being re-barred.

Gathered near the gate, the main group waits breathlessly as arena attendees begin filtering down from the stands. Confusion is growing and shouts and arguments can be heard over the buzz of the crowd, but a few have begun to make their way toward the massive gate.

The doors swing outward, toward the city. Grit sees no obvious way to block them in their current position. But if someone starts to close them, a spear shaft could be shoved in the narrow gap between the door and the wall, preventing them from being fully closed or barred.

Out on the arena sands, Raun sees the half-giant, Gaanon, snarl and glare at the centurion in front of him.

"You think you can fool Gaanon with mind-bender's tricks!" He stops, squinting, then looks down at the elf, whose color has returned. She's still unconscious, but doesn't appear to be on the brink of death.

"Ha! So Rikus has friends, after all," the half-giant bellows, before laying the elf carefully on the sand. "Looks like Gaanon's axe will drink again before the sun sets!"

Flinging a handful of sand at the templars, the half-giant scoops up his obsidian greataxe and brings it crashing down onto the nearest centurion, sheering through armor and spraying blood across the sand.

You're up! Raun, you can take a surprise round action and a normal action before the templars have a chance to react. Everybody else - you're aware, via Raun, of what is happening in the arena, but the templars in your area may not react immediately. Let me know if you are sitting tight or taking actions.

Raun smiles as she senses Nnn's aid; she still didn't like to think about him being in her head all the time, but she couldn't complain about his effectiveness. She hadn't been sure he'd aid her either considering the others were apparently just watching people leave.

She is only slightly surprised when the half-giant jumps straight to violence, since that would have been the only way he'd be able to get away from the templar after all. <<Raun is female half-giant, like you. She will help you fight. Not attack her.>> she sends, along the link, before turning her attention to the templar in front of her. She'd prefer to get closer to the higher ranking templars and the others of her kind, but... she didn't want to leave these underlings to surround Gaanon, or worse to threaten the elf.

Raun emerges swiftly into the Templar's awareness with a roar and the whirling of her hammer as she lays about her at the two nearby templars. Gaanon should have just enough time to see Raun's features before they start to distort and swell into the fearsome mien of her tattoo's likeness. Sitting tight.

Gorkhan doesn't let his knowledge of the action in the arena reach his eyes as he continues to amiably assist the templars, in hopes of delaying the inevitable and thus allowing Raun and the other champions in the arena a better chance against smaller numbers. Still, he is ready to act should things turn and these templars realize their error.

Like a monster appearing from a cloud's shadow on the ground, Raun leaps into the fight, slaughtering the two closest templars and startling the centurion, whose armor saves him from her bite.

Seeing only a blur as the templars fall, Gaanon takes a step to the left, protecting the unconscious elf, as he brings his axe around in a broad arc that cleaves through the wounded centurion and hacks into the nearest half-giant.

The unsuspecting templars finally act. Gaanon chops down another templar that charges at him from behind, and Raun fells one of the templars approaching from the west. But the pair are quickly surrounded as templars rush in, jabbing with iron-tipped spears.

Calling for Kalak's blessing, the remaining centurion takes a careful step away from the combat. Invigorated, the other templars attack.

Three manage to poke their spears past Raun's defenses, but the puncture wounds are relatively shallow. (Raun takes a total of 22 damage after DR.)

Gaanon doesn't fare as well, as a templar jabs his spear deep into the back of the half-giant's right knee. Stumbling, Gaanon manages to dodge the attack of the one of the other half-giants, but the second lands a heavy blow with its mace that sounds like it must have cracked the champion's skull. Gaanon suffered two crits and is badly wounded.)

Seeing the fight, the centurion at the east end of the arena motions to the templar standing next to Grit.

"Gaanon's putting up a fight - help me close this gate!" he says, moving toward the giant-hair cable that secures the bone portcullis.

You're up! And yes, Gaanon and the elf are part of the collective now.

The kreen moves west (down on the map) three squares, then provides the comforting ablative barrier that the group is used to. Unfortunately, he provides it only to Grit, Raun, and Woki. 20 temp. i see Gorkhan still has his previous temp, so i chose Woki instead. I know Raun is out of temps, if Grit still has his, then i will pick Daina instead. I don't have PP that i am willing to blow on the NPCs, especially since one is an elf (thri'kreen dont really like elves) and the other is going to get us killed.)

<<my power is low. must conserve. survive.>>

I need a couple of clarifications:

Grit: I'm unclear who you want to attack. The centurion (black circle ringed in yellow) sounding an alarm is standing five squares north and one square west of your current position, next to the gate between the arena floor and the halls where the main party is. He's not by the main gate, marked in red, which is farther to the east. You don't have a clear path to charge/pounce the centurion because of the wall and the templar directly to the west of you, who would get an AoO if you move away. Also, your tigone is on the wrong side of the wall to be able to charge/pounce anyone other than the templars in the hallway marked "Main Corridor." Please clarify who you are targeting and that you have a clear line to charge.

Nnn: It's been much more than 6 minutes since your last fight, so no one has temporary HP left at this point. Let me know if that changes your targets. Also - Gaanon was about to go with the templars quietly until you and Raun started mucking around in his thoughts ;)

I did not realize there was a new map. Especailly if that wall provides corer from the centurions Grit and his Tigone will attack the templars nearest the gate then. Grit will full attack the one next to him and the tigone will attack the one closest to the gate.

So this centurion (gold ringed) is talking about closing the portcullis that he is standing beside (grey line) rather than the main gate (red line)? Also, are the guards next to the red gate (such as the one next to Gorkhan) the ones that are operating it? If so...

Round 2
hp 47/47
Effects: Magic Circle vs Evil (+2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves)

Full Round Action: Cast Call Lightning.

Sensing that things are about to get out of hand, Woki starts praying to the spirits for their assistance in eradicating the ones who wear black. Static electricity starts to build up in the area as the halfling chants in a sing-song voice.

Nnn'tkklik'l channels psychic energy into the collective, producing protective buffers around Grit, Gorkhan and Raun. (Grit, Raun and Gorkhan gain 20 temp hp)

In the arena, Raun flails ineffectually at the templars swarming around her. His axe dripping gore, Gaanon cuts down one of the half-giant guards.

"Can't leave Raffaela!" he screams, holding his ground over the elf's unconscious body.

The templars continue the attack, using their numbers to flank both Gaanon and Raun. Two spears find their way into Raun's hide, but she barely feels them. A spear also pierces Gaanon, but he blocks a blow from the remaining half-giant and stays on his feet. (Raun takes 10 damage after DR, which is soaked by her temp hp.)

Stepping back from the fray, the centurion casts another spell before drawing his iron sword.

In the halls near the gate, the rest of the group explodes into action. Grit beheads the templar to his left with a swipe of his claw, then advances on the centurion to the north. His tigone leaps on another near the east gate, disemboweling the unfortunate man, while Gorkhan plunges his sword into the heart of a third.

Daina finishes another spell, speeding the actions of her allies near the east gate while Woki summons a storm in the air over the gate. (Everyone but Raun and Gaanon get haste.)

Taken by surprise, a few of the templars hurl spears at Grit's tigone and Daina - all missing - while others draw up in a line, ready for a charge. Another runs up the stairs, calling for a senior templar.

As he disappears from sight, you feel a wrenching feeling in your gut. Accompanying the pain is a draining feeling, as if part of your life force was being siphoned away. A dark funnel cloud appears over Kalak's ziggurat as streamers of blood-red light fuse and are drawn into the structure. Everyone in the arena, including templars, PCs and non-combatants, loses 1 hp.

You're up!

"Raun said TAKE ELF!" she bellows back, the words twisted almost beyond recognition by her inhuman mouth. She swings again at the niggling templar between them both, connecting with a solid blow this time, though her horrible jaws snap ineffectually at another of the encircling templar. She steps over the freshly fallen templar, going back to back with Gaanon to ensure none of the other templar get between them.

A grunt escapes her maw as something is pulled from her, and she glares up in the sky momentarily before turning to the fight.

<<What happening?>> she demands over the link, glancing also at the ethereal figure of the Champion that flickers occasionally into sight.

Free Action: As the spell is completed in the previous round, a bolt can hit a target of Woki's choosing. Targeting the templar that threw the spear at Däina, which I take it is the only one around the corner with us.
Standard Action: Command another bolt of lightning to strike the same templar if he didn't go down from the first. Otherwise, re-target on the line of templars forming past the tigone.

Call Lightning (Reflex DC17 half): 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 2) + 1 = 11
Call Lightning (Reflex DC17 half): 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) + 1 = 9

As Woki calls upon the storm to rage against the ones who wear black, the leeching of life force from himself and the others causes the halfling to gasp. <<No! What the spirits feared comes! Death, destruction, and the birth of a far greater evil then what plagues your land. Hurry, hurry! No time to waste.>> Woki's mental panic is palpable as the little halfling drags down bolt after bolt of electricity into a templar.
