Dark Sun ala Fabian - To Save a Dying World (Inactive)

Game Master Fabian Benavente

Dark Sun played with Pathfinder Rules (and a healthy dose of house rules) focused on the on-going story of an unlikely group of heroes called to destiny.

Just to let everyone know, I am on holiday from this Saturday until Monday and will not have IT access during this time.

M Halfling Druid 5

Barega moved about the site of the ambush, examining the ground and collecting a few items.

At Ala'a's question, he pointed to the spot on the ground on the side of the road. "It looks like they moved off to the west, into the desert. I would say yesterday afternoon. They could be quite far from here by now...or not. Let me have a look."

Barega again entered his trance, looking up into the cloudless sky for a few minutes.
Eagle Eye again, to try to see the surrounding area, looking for bad guys, obvious signs of passage, maybe Thri-kreen burrows, or whatever they live in.

Assuming I don't see anything:
"I see no sign of them nearby. We have several hours of light left. It could be that if we move quickly south along the road, we will make it out of their hunting grounds before they grow hungry again, and we will not cross paths with them." He didn't look particularly optimistic.

I'd say we grab whatever looks useful and is quick to take (bags or chests of CP, the water, maybe the food, maybe a couple pieces of pottery to store water in or something, maybe there is some obvious valuable or masterwork item), and move on. Barega can Purify Food and Drink on the salvage after we get moving. Maybe we can make it to some other kind of shelter (Did he see anything promising with the Eagle Eye?) before too long after dark.
When we are within a couple of hours of dark, if nothing comes up, I'll do the Pass without Trace to make it somewhat more difficult to track us, and then we can move off the road a ways (maybe to the east?), I'll do what I can to disrupt the wagon's tracks as it moves off the road, and I can try to hide the campsite again at night. I think we should still post a watch in the hidden campsite.

Have a good holiday, Gbaji!

Valsavis stood up from examining the scene, brushing the sand off his hands and wiping the sweat from his brow, "While I would like to get to Tyr as quickly as possible, If I were forced to choose, I would rather meet them on our own terms." He says, nodding to Ala'a. Waving a hand at Gbaji, Come, help me move these wagons. I believe we can create a choke point here." Valsavis begins digging the wagon out of the sand, and once Gbaji, and whomever else jumps in to help, is ready, he will attempt to lift the wagon onto it's side, creating some cover as well as a suitable defensible position.

All of your ideas sound good Barega, and I agree with your thoughts on what we should pilfer from the site. I really am enjoying reading the thought you're putting into your character's suggestions and actions. Your use of spells while we travel has been exceptional.

And enjoy your holiday Gbaji! I would've been vacationing in New Orleans with the family in a few weeks, but I chose to get LASIK instead. I guess this is as good a time as any to say that I'll probably be absent from the boards for a day or two in early April due to the recovery period.

Thanks for letting us know.

Enjoy your holiday.

Barega nodded, convinced by the others' way of thinking. Not much use pushing debris around, he began searching the nearby area for natural hazards or carnivorous plants that they might be able to use to their advantage.

Thanks Valsavis. I'm not very good at this, hoping that you guys will rub off on me after a year or something.
Thanks about the spells! I am just kicking myself over not having taken Natural Spell...that templar party would be having a hard time of it out there in the desert. I think I had it in my 7th level doodle and then I was probably drunk or something when I refigured him out at 5th level. Ah well...gives something to look forward to.

I also think you're doing great and to think that I had to twist your arm into playing because you thought you wouldn't be good. :)

This just proves what I always say: Give me enthusiastic players and they will thrive in my type of game. I don't need the 'uber builds', just players interested in telling an 'uber story'.

To your point, in the same manner that I ask players (cough-Valsavis-recently) to 'modify' their 'build', I'm open to players asking me the same thing.

If it promotes roleplaying and you (and me) are not abusing the system, I'm all for it so don't be afraid to ask. Again, this is not a 'DM against players' game, it's about telling a great story, a story about heroic deeds.

I'm recapping now but I got some things to take care in the morning so you may not see the turn this afternoon.

What does everyone think about something like this?

Wagon set up

~~~~~0~~0~~~~~
"Push that wagon over here, like this. Yes, then flip it on its side for better cover. Okay, now drag that one there, to funnel them in one at a time," Ala'a said, sweat pouring down her sides from the work as well as the threat of the advancing thri-kreen.
She took a deep breath when Barega spotted the insect warriors, forcing her muscles to go slack as she harnessed the fire within.
Moving among the others, she wove curtains of invisible fire around those most likely to be in the thick of the fighting. Loosening her bow, she called down a final prayer, beseeching the flames to guide their blows.
Ala'a casts shield of faith on herself, Gbaji and Valsavis, then casts bless when the thri-kreen are near but still out of range.
Drawing back her bow, Ala'a aimed for the thri-kreen leading the charge.
"Eat this, you bastard," she said as she loosed the arrow - a glancing shot, if it hit at all - and retreated into the wooden palisade they'd erected.
Longbow attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 = 141d8 ⇒ 1
Male Human Slayer 4/Rogue (Thug) 1 | HP 40/40 | AC 20, Tch 13, FF 18 | CMD 22 | Fort +6, Ref +9, Will +4 | Init +4 | Perception +10 | Intimidate +14
Your set up looks good, too bad it appears they’re likely to jump right over them and swarm us…
1
Valsavis paused as Ala’a’s magicks surge through his body. He pulled the strengthening fruit from his pack and downed it in a few swift bites, his muscles growing, causing his garb to strain at the seams (bull’s strength), S*$&, jumpers. Well, let’s hope they don’t have the presence of mind to leap over our barriers, otherwise we might find ourselves fighting off the entire swarm.” he says with a growl.
2
He took up his recurve bow and knocked an arrow, firing at the first jumping kreen at which he had a clear shot.
Mwk composite longbow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
He grinned as he heard the kreen's shrill scream when his arrow found a seam in it's carapace. He then quickly discarded his bow as the chittering insects closed the distance and pulled out his blades. Beckoning with his knives, he bellowed, ”Come on! Come dance with death!” he screamed in an almost fevered pitch.
At least this way there are limited spaces for them to land inside, they'll take attacks of opportunity from passing over us, and we'll probably be able to flank them if we stay near the 'walls.'
1
Gbaj remained quite through the preparations (back now). Strategy wasn't really his thing, pounching enemies in the face was more his metier. But he nodded in approval to Ala'a's shaping of the ground they would defend.
Kreen... He didn't have much experience of fighting them. He watched the swarm hurtle towards them. Well, if they were planning on eating him, he was going to make them work for their meal. He stuffed the enchanted fruit of strength into his mouth.
Taking the Bull's Strength fruit as they charge up.
2
Like Valsavis, Gbaji felt Ala'a's magic course through him. Damn, but she was good to have around in a fight. And most other situations. He allowed himself a moment of dry amusement - he was back to relying on elves again. Hopefully this would work out better than last time.
He brushed the distracting memory aside - he had work to do. He took aim with his crossbow at the biggest-looking kreen he could see, and loosed the bolt.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 to hit, 2d8 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 damage
Glad to have you back, Gbaji.
I'll wait for Barega and roll some dice tonight.
I was hoping to have Lalali by now...
M Halfling Druid 5
I think that one of you guys should use the sword that gives you a free bull's strength once a day, instead of eating all the pomegranates.
1.
I want to do something like this in terms of spellcasting on the minute of prep time:
round -6: Longstrider
round -5: Call Lightning
round -3 or -2: ready the action for ...
[ooc](when the swarm reaches about 120'): Fog cloud to try to break them up so they don't all hit at once. Basically, I will try to catch the rear 2/3 or so of them in fog cloud, so that they have to slow down. Hopefully the ones in front will keep charging up and they will arrive to fight these guys single-file, like ninjas fighting Bruce Lee one at a time.
round -1: flaming sphere & attack one of them (if splitting them up, then the back group) with it, maybe it will distract them for a bit or make them duck back into the cloud or something.
Barega shuddered as he returned to his normal viewpoint. "They are very close, now."
He began chanting in a strange howling cadence, and climbed halfway up the rear wagon so that he could see the approaching creatures.
As the swarm crested a hill about 40 yards away, Barega suddenly moved his hands up and a great wind blew in among the kreen, kicking up a storm of sand and dust which obscured all but the frontmost creatures. The front row continued to leap ahead, and a few moments later the rear ranks emerged, stumbling, from the cloud. As the first of these stragglers emerged, a great ball of flame flickered into existence and leapt at him.
flaming sphere damage, DC17 Ref to negate: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) = 8
2. round 0: move action to attack with the flaming sphere; standard action to call a lightning bolt.
Barega's howling chant ceased, and he pointed at one of the nearby creatures. A bolt of lightning flashed from the sky and slammed into one of the kreen. The ball of fire leapt at another of the creatures, attempting to immolate him.
lightning bolt damage at one of the creatures that is close, DC18 Ref for half: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4) = 13
flaming sphere damage, DC17 Ref to negate: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6) = 13
I guess targetting for these will be like: preferably a wounded one, then preferably one that is not one of the melee guys' only target, then whatever.
ref save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11, no
ref save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9, no
Since the 'kreen aren't here yet, Gbaji will use a move action to access Martial Flexibility and give himself Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike). He will then ready an unarmed strike on the first 'kreen to get within thumping range.
Gbaji breathed in deeply as the 'kreen charged, held it as they gathered closer, then let it go as they made their leap over the wagons. His mind was focused. It was kill or die. Again.
Readied strike 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 30 to hit, damage 2d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 4 + 2 = 13
M Halfling Druid 5
Watching the creatures leap foward, Barega felt a tinge of fear. But his people were not known for their cowardice. He hit them again with fire and thunder.
move: flaming sphere attack on one of the most wounded remaining ones (DC17 ref to negate): 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) = 7
standard: call lightning on one of the most wounded remaining ones (DC18 ref for half): 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4) = 8
As the first of them cleared the wagon, Barega looked at its bulky, succulent legs and began to salivate. He grinned a terrible and insane grin, and his teeth elongated into catlike fangs. If we survive... we will eat well this night!
swift: use the Cloak of Fangs to gain a bite attack (at i think: +6, 1d4+1), so that I can take AoOs and provide a flank if the opportunity presents itself. I think I will 5' step to R9 to try to avoid getting surrounded.
Tastes like chicken, so I understand.
Valsavis' pulse raced as the kreen finally arrived, leaping over them and joining the choatic melee. Brandishing his blades, he screamed at them, hoping to cow their bloodlust.
Demoralize: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36
Excellent.
---
Valsavis will delay until the majority of the kreens have lept over the wagons and are visible, at which point he will use dazzling display (target is shaken for 2 rounds (bonus round from frightening included) plus 1 more for each 5 points the check result beats the DC.) If I beat the DC by 10 (making it 4+ rounds), can also frighten (house-ruled to dissuade effected creatures from attacking Valsavis instead of making them flee.) and take a 5' step to flank with whomever is available.
Bull’s strength: +4 Str
Shield of Faith: +2 shield bonus to AC
Site down yesterday so not able to do much. Will recap tonight.
Female Elf Slayer 1 / Oracle 4
Ala'a's breath stopped in her throat as she watched the swarm of thri-kreen emerge from the dust storm.
Spirits help us, she thought as she tightened her grip on her sword and shield and readied the words of a prayer that would summon a sheet of flame to blast the first kreen to draw near.
She held the spell as long as she could - dodging the clicking mandibles of the most eager of the creatures - hoping to catch as many as possible in the wave of fire she sent curling over their glistening carapaces.
Ala'a will hold her position and ready an action to cast burning hands, directing the arc to the northwest. She will wait until multiple thri-kreen approach, casting defensively if needed, in order to maximize the number of enemies in the area of effect.
Concentration check to cast defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
burning hands damage: 5d4 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 4, 4) = 16 Reflex DC 14 for 1/2
Female Elf Slayer 1 / Oracle 4
The thri-kreen were everywhere, on all sides, claws scraping against Ala'a's shield as she ducked their clacking mandibles.
Got to make some space, keep them from flanking us, she thought, spinning to block another attack. She turned toward Barega, separated by a jumping mass of armored bodies.
"Valash'ska, fu'zax!" she yelled, waving at the halfling with her sword to try to signal him to move out of the way to the north.
Watching as best she could while defending herself, she called forth another fiery prayer before slinging another fan of flames to the southeast, charring bodies and hopefully clearing space to maneuver in their makeshift fort.
I'll delay until after Barega acts, then cast (defensively) burning hands in an arc to the southeast. That should catch the thri-kreen in fives squares: 10Q, 10R, 11Q, 11R, and 12Q. Reflex DC 14 for 1/2. If the bug in 10Q dies, she will 5-foot step to there.
Concentration to cast defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Burning hands damage: 5d4 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 4, 4) = 16
M Halfling Druid 5
The kreen were everywhere, the stench of their madness and of their burning bodies. Barega staggered back two of the beasts dug into him with their claws. He uttered a quick prayer to the spirit of the sands of this place.
They are completely surrounded...He strained with effort as he pushed the flames onto another of the screaming kreen, and called down another thunderbolt, desperately trying to thin out the enemy. It had been some time since he had felt this pressed.
He took step back as the elven woman scoured the kreen with her holy flame, and then hurriedly took another as she shouted nonsense at him and the sheet of flame started moving in his direction.
I'll step to S9, and then hit the o10 kreen with the flaming sphere and the Q10 one with a lightning bolt.
GM:
I just want to make sure you're factoring the -2 modifiers into the kreen's rolls (in this case against saves and attacks). I realize that is most likely the case and you mentioned it in your spoiler, but I don't see it reflected in your rolls.
Valsavis' throat was raw from his battle cries when they struck, and struck hard. He shielded his eyes as Ala'a sprays fire from her outstretched hands and the halfling shapeshifter invokes the fury of the elements. He dodged and deflected the kreens claws and bites in a blur of defensive maneuvering, but there were just so many swarming them from every direction that a few attacks slipped through his defenses, and it wasn't long before his skin was slick with blood. "I will not die like this. Not to these chittering bastards!" He positioned himself as best he could, taking note of where his allies were in the chaotic melee and then struck out with his blades, directing his fury at whichever kreen looked to be the most injured.
mwk obsidian bard’s friend: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 14 Miss
damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4 + Sneak attack: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 9 damage total
These attacks are assuming Valsavis is flanking, if that is not the case, ignore the SA damage and subtract 2 from the attack totals.
The first blow missed horribly as he had to change his course of attack at the last moment to dodge a swiping claw, but he quickly recovered and his off-hand attack struck home. Hot ichor pooled on the ground at the kreens feet, serving to fuel his intensity.
Free demoralize if target is slain: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 25
5' step in an attempt to flank with either Ala'a or Gbaji and full attack. The additional bonuses to my rolls are reflecting my current buffs. Gbaji survived the initial charge unscathed. He swung about with his fists. He realized that Barega was surrounded, wounded and alone, and tried to fight his way towards the halfling, slowly wading through the tide of insectoid bodies. Flame and lightning struck about him.
Using my Brawler's Flurry to get Two Weapon Fighting. I'll attack the 'kreen between me and Barega and, if I clear a space, take a 5' step towards him. Ideally, I'll take down the nearest one between me and him, step into its space, and then punch the next one between me and him. If the first one doesn't go down with the first blow, I'll hit it again. Either way, I'll try and make the step if I clear a space
VALSAVIS HITS FOR 9 HP
This was going south fast. Both Barega and Valsavis were badly wounded, and he and Ala'a weren't looking much better. Gbaji hadn't planned on being 'kreen food, but...
There was no subtlety to it. Dodge the claws and mandibles, punch out when an opening presented itself. Repeat. A battle of attrition. Those who were standing at the end would be victorious. Right now, Gbaji's world had shrunk to the patch of earth where he fought, the chitter and hiss of the 'kreen, and his hoarse grunts as he struck out again, and the sting of his wounds.
This was a sure way to die. Time to fight smarter. "Valsavis! Alal'a! Here, form up!"
Still using Brawler's Flurry this round. However, Gbaji will 5' step to R11 so Valsavis can flank the one in Q11. Gbaji will then concentrate on punching the one in R10. If it falls to his first punch, he'll punch the one in S10 with his second attack. Hopefully that will take some pressure off Barega.
Punch 1 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 26 to hit, damage 2d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 5 + 2 = 11
Punch 2 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 32 to hit, damage 2d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 5 + 2 = 10
Er, yeah. This is an unavoidable TPK at this point. Based on the stats I can see (attack, average damage, saves and apparent hit points) these suped-up thri-kreen are at least CR 3 (and with the average damage output of CR 6 creature, per this table). At just CR 3, 18 creatures is a CR 11 encounter. We're not that optimized - at best, we're punching up maybe one level over the baseline. On a good round, we might take out three thri-kreen, while they took off more than half of our combined hit points in one round.
If there had been 12 instead of 18, if we'd been able to take attacks of opportunity when they leapt over the walls, if our fortifications had actually been useful in limiting their ability to swarm us ... maybe. But as is, we're all dead, barring DM fiat or some Korgunard-based deus ex machina. I don't mean to be a downer, but the campaign appears to be headed to an abrupt end otherwise. How do you want to proceed?
Ala'a watched as the kreen's claws gouged bloody holes in her new friends. She'd suffered a few scrapes herself, but could still run if she had to, although who knew how long she would last in the desert by herself.
At least we tried, she thought, leaping past the attacking thri-kreen as she tried to make her way to the fringe of the battle. Slashing at another bug-like attacker, she prepared to retreat when the others fell.
Five-foot step northwest, fighting defensively to boost AC to 26.
Attack on thri-kreen in O9: 1d20 + 11 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 1 - 4 = 181d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
A bit of psionic support at this point might not go amiss, either.
Incoming. We have a holiday and i have some time to read up^^
I've got my little monster all day today, so I won't be able to post until tomorrow afternoon. Feel free to bot Valsavis. 5' step to flank, full attack fighting defensively.
The Exchange
No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30
From a tactical perspective it doesn't make a whole lot of sense Ala'a stepping off to the north-west since she can be attacked on all sides. Gbaji has just vacated Q10 and Ala'a can step there - which was sort of what he was trying to convey above. It might be too late to change it but, if you can, you might reconsider.
Botting Valsavis, based on the comments above.
Feeling his wounds burn, Valsavis adopted a guarded stance to avoid as many claws as possible. As Gbaji shifted position, he took the opportunity to strike out at a distracted 'kreen.
Fighting defensively, two attacks. First attack on the 'kreen in Q11, which should benefit from flanking due to Gbaji's shift. If it goes down, he'll shift into Q11 so he'll be back-to-back with Gbaji. If he has an attack left over after all that, he'll attack the 'kreen in R10 (with the benefit if flanking from Barega) if it still stands, otherwise he'll just attack the nearest 'kreen that looks badly wounded (probably without the benefit of flanking, so -2 to hit and no sneak attack damage).
Attack 1 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 2 + 1 - 4 + 2 = 30 to hit, damage 1d4 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9 plus 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9 damage - CRIT!
Attack 1 critical confirmation 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 2 + 1 - 4 + 2 = 13 to hit, damage 1d4 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 = 11 extra damage
Attack 2 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 + 1 - 4 + 2 = 15 to hit, damage 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5 plus 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11 damage
Oh, Ala'a is not acting strategically at this point. She fully expects everyone else to die in the next few moments and is getting ready to flee. Just RP'ing elven instincts.
On a more metagamey level, she's got the best AC in the group, so I'm not too worried about being mobbed, and that might help draw some fire away from the rest of you if the kreen follow the tasty elf. And if it works, she'll of course say that was her plan all along...
M Halfling Druid 5
I've got to head out soon to take the kids to grandma's, but I will post tonight or tomorrow morning.
I think Barega could withdraw NE with only one AoO, probably his best bet (it might miss! maybe!). I guess he is the same speed as they are, so maybe it would eventually go to "Evasion and Pursuit", maybe he has a decent chance to get away and hide in the desert (maybe 1 in 3?) and come back later for Korungard.
Usually I wouldn't do that as a PC, though. He can perhaps take out two serious wounds bugs if he stands and delivers (fearless racial trait, after all). Do you guys want to stick it out?
I guess that like Ala'a, I was a little disappointed that none of the preparations had any effect. I figured they would be able to jump over the wagons, but it would provoke AoOs and limit the number of guys who could attack, they'd be slowed by the difficult terrain and maybe arrive in a couple of waves instead of all at once, plus we'd be flanking from positioning ahead of time, etc.
BUT -- I think that you get a better D&D game when you don't worry about all of the pathfinder mini-wargame rules minutiae, and just handwave a little for expediency and narrative license (like in 2nd edition). So, I am not opposed to that...I actually prefer it...I think the problem is just that it caught us by surprise.
With that said, I could have done better too. I had a couple of rounds to put up some summons, I just thought you guys kill stuff so fast, and I should save some spells for when we were ambushed in the middle of the night. My misjudgment. :)
Well, I was going to wait for Barega to post but I had some time tonight and it made no sense to postpone the inevitable.
Turn 028 is up.
Read the OOC.
Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?
I'll admit that my jaw dropped a bit when I saw the turn title, haha. I'm heading off to bed so I'll still delay posting until tomorrow, but I've got to say that you had me and that you're a $*#(@#*@%. :)
Gbaji watches in amazement as Kornugard's presence disperses the 'kreen like windblown sand. He gazes at the floating wizard, then back at the rapidly fleeing insects.
"I still reckon we could have had 'em. Shame they ran off like that."
M Halfling Druid 5
OK, you got me good.
Barega staggered back under the Kreen's advance, his vision a haze of blood and dust, smoke and poison. He barred filed teeth in defiance as the creature closed. And then everything stopped. The creatures were no longer advancing. The air cooled. The pain dulled, and the anger was blunted. It felt like...
Korgunard! He was conscious! and...flying about? Barega instantly felt the spirits of the sands respond to the preserver's presence, and for a moment joy overcame the pain.
But just for a moment. Barega warily circled around the kreen, making his way to the spilled supplies and righting the barrel. He let the ball of flames sputter out as the kreen dispersed, and began rummaging around in his pack for the herbs he needed to treat the poison that still burned in his blood.
At Gbaji's remark, Barega erupted with laughter, "Maybe we'll find some more for you, giant!"
He sat heavily on his haunches, with his back against one of the overturned wagons. He began to treat the poison and bandage his wounds, watching Korgunard thoughtfully.
When he felt that he could stand again, Barega moved about, doing what he could to treat the wounds of the others.
I don't know if events will supercede this, feel free to change it.
heal to treat poison on barega (so, can use that as the next save against the poison): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
CLW on barega: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
CLW on valsavis: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
anybody else need the lesser restoration? if not I will do it on Baregalesser restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 3
When we have a lot of time (camping or something) I may try the "treat deadly wounds" heal check like last time, at least on Barega and Valsavis. But it takes an hour per guy.
male
Just a small clarification before it gets out of hand: Korgunard isn't flying or floating. He flew out of the compartment like one might fly through a windshield but he's very much on the sand and still unconscious.
Game on!
PS: I'm glad you all have a sense of humor and remember that this is a game.
As the wagon toppled, Lalali-Re was spilled out like water from the barrel she had hidden in. Thrown out of her meditation trying to probe Korgunards mind, she was thouroughly disoriented.
Looking at her mangled friends, she shrieked.
What just happened? Did you have a car crash in the middle of the desert with some kreen?
And do they know him?
Obviously, she had been in a meditative trance a bit too long...
male
Lalali-Re wrote:
OOC: Lalali, I think that's not a bad 'fix'. We can all assume that whenever something happened (belgoi encounter, trader caravan on the road, thri-kreen attack, etc.) Lalali was 'in meditation'. I like it. Obviously, you may (and should) 'take some heat' from your companions but we can roleplay that out.
Glad you're with us to stay and I'm looking forward to having another involved PC in the midst to make this game even better.
Game on!
Yeah, like meditating through the 'kreen fight...
Good point.
Is she scared? Does she think that she's too good to fight along a stupid half-giant, a lying elf, a feral halfling, and an angry slayer? Does she black out? Is there something wrong with her?
I think Gbaji should take that up with Lalali herself.
Game on!
Valsavis screamed through the melee, coming to the realization that this was most likely the end. He dodged and slashed when the kreen Gbaji had kicked crashed into the wagon and, along with much of their cargo, the old preserver spilled to the sand. With a growl he turned his attention back to the slaughter and was baffled to find their insectoid attackers stood still as stone, and an eerie, almost tranquil, silence descended upon the field of battle. His blank visage was a blend of amazement and confusion as the kreen seemed to have adopted a reverent air about them. He watched in stunned silence as the pack bowed to the companions and then retreated into the wastes.
He turned to the others, "Interrupted or no, the ceremony seemed to have done something to the man. I-" but he stopped there, unsure of what he was about to say. He merely stared, struggling to process their good fortune. He fished around two fingers in his mouth and pulled free a cracked tooth, flicking it to the ground and spitting a wad of dark blood after it. They would live another day, it seemed.
Of the unexpected return of their human telepath, he had no comment. He simply gave the woman a questioning look. Car crash?
Female Elf Slayer 1 / Oracle 4
Well, you definitely got me with the April fooling. I was careful all day at work and home, but wasn't expecting it here. Bravo.
Ala'a still wasn't sure whether to turn and run or fall to her knees in prayer. After seeming to pay their respects to Korgunard's unconscious body, the thri-kreen had scuttled off like nothing was amiss.
Like they got us half chewed and decided they'd rather have jankx for dinner after all, she thought.
And now the human woman was awake. Although the time she'd spent senseless since Korgunard's ritual appeared to have left her more than a little confused.
"Crash? No, we've just been attacked by a swarm of rabid thri-kreen. We've got a templar and crew on our back trail and an unconscious preserver who must resemble some sort of bug god, judging from the way those kreen lost their appetite," she said. "So welcome - and no, you can't go back to sleep."
Still marveling at their survival, she crossed to Valsavis, motioning for him to let her inspect the deepest of his wounds. Summoning the healing fire, she scorched the worst closed, then moved to Barega to repeat the process.
Cure moderate wounds on Valsavis: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 6) + 5 = 19
Cure moderate wounds on Barega: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 5) + 5 = 11
Dizzienes let the world tumble for a moment and she struck out a hand to hold herself on the wagon. The harsh sunlight blinded her, her eyes not being used to it from the long meditation. How long had she been in that barrel? She didn´t know herself. Time had slipped her grasp while she was on a mental voyage. Why had she chosen the barrel? Next time she should choose a better place. But then, it had served a purpose. Like anticipated she had been able to stay near her friends and Korgunard as well as undisturbed. Mostly.
So you crashed into the Kreen? Because you fled from a templar?
She blinked around, seeing Korgunard on the sands, the spilled water and food.
Don´t worry, i had enough sleep for some time. Seems my attention is needed here and i have to postpone researching the astral imprint of Korgunards mutation. Speaking about a bug god. Did the Kreen smell on him?
Still to dizzy to walk, she got down on her knees and crawled over to sniff at Korgunard.
Just to give advance warning, I will be on holiday for a week from the coming Saturday. I won't have any meaningful internet connectivity in this time.
Gbaji watched with some incredulity as the human woman sniffed Kornugard. Disciple of the Way or just a moon-touched - well, time would tell. "Why don't we just put him back in the wagon? We need to get moving - our water has spilt out."
