Glad you caught it, Catman, I was definitely thinking of poor Kaltos.

BTW, your character sheet is archived here:

Nice touch Eradico, I did much the same with my first couple of posts, felt like a little wink to the sabbatical I took, lol.

OK, I updated the character sheets. In doing so, I noticed that Wikispaces required a new confirmation process to make the website visible to the public, which I completed, so if you weren't seeing it, you should be able to do so again.

The link for the wiki is here for convenience: The Oremor Affliction

Lorm, you should now correctly show 6 maximum Fate Points.

Vincent, advances should now be reflected on your character sheet.

Wardja, Kaltos, the 300 XP has been added to your sheets as well. I know Wardja wants to reserve his experience points, Kaltos, you can spend these points at any time.

As always, please check your sheets to make sure everything is reflected properly, and let me know if there are any discrepancies.

Sorry about the lull there guys, had a very ill co-worker in the hospital, and had to cover a number of shifts in the last week. This coupled with some more OT from this year's Storm of the Century has left me a little ragged.

Good news is that I will be updating both games tonight and should be back on schedule after that, so thanks for being patient!

Well I just threw gasoline on the fire! Hope you all enjoy the fire works Lol.

This ought to be interesting.

This might later be noted as an understatement, Lorm.

Just a head's up for Sav, I had to adjust some of the bidding/Draw narrative to fit the game flow in the last round, partly from a mistake I made, and partly for Sav bidding the final 20 markers before he was asked his intent by the dealer. It all worked out in the end, as the move called Trizo's bluff and forced the Changeling out, although it had no effect on Leprade or Tor who are basically all-in already.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

Sorry guess Sav jumped the gun a bit. Made sense under the circumstances though, and made for good narrative.

No apology necessary, Bal. Lovin' it!

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

Of course it is an understatement. I didn't doubt that for a second. Uriah also doesn't doubt it.

So I finally found my notes for my advancement. I am going to take Mechadendrite Use (Gun) for 200 from the Mechanicus Secutor list.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

OK, Kaltos, obviously this kind of bionic enhancement can't be put into place under the present circumstances, but I will allow for ample time for you to do so as soon as possible---the outcome of the next scene, of course, still being in doubt.

Also, congratulations on achieving the requirements for Mechanicus Secutor, Kaltos! A link to your updated character sheet is located here: Kaltos Havelock.

ya I figured I would have to survive the bout with the harvester and get back to a place I can smith it or have one hooked up. The next advance it the special for the Mechanicus Secutor. Just need 400 more xp ;-)

In Memoriam, Kaltos Havelock, being stuck 'Somewhere Dark'
November 17th 2011 through February 23, 2013

Funny how the pacing works in the play by post, huh?

Kaltos, I know a date with the Harvester hardly seems like the best reward for spending well over a year of RL time in what is effectively a prison, but let me just say for myself and everyone else how much your patience is appreciated. Staying with the game, in character is a pretty great achievement under the circumstances, and I promise---promise not to ever do this again in game to you...if you live.

LOL, seriously though, enjoy the combat, you earned center stage for this one!

Wow, no kidding, Rook!

Too bad Kaltos can't earn a free upgrade in a skill like 'eternal endurance' or 'composed patience' or some such thing. :)

Or maybe a small advance in willpower...

lol well I have enjoyed the card game and the game underlying it as well. So far so good for the start of the match. I hope things keep going well.

lol ya I was surprised the bp had a armor of 5. I just need to hit with the last number really high or low ;-)

Glad you've enjoyed the other things happening around poor Kaltos while he was sequestered, Catman, I really didn't plan on it being that long.

It looks like you, Kotts, and Ivaanov have been saving your luck up while locked away. The Harvester's last miss with the Righteous Fury really showed things as being on the player's side for a change, dice-wise.

At work now, but I'll have the map and the next round posted, and possibly the following round, if needed, tonight when I get home.

Ellipsis, any questions about the encounter set-up, just let me know, and I'll be glad to answer.

My main ooc question would be that since the scale is 4m per square shouldn't the group be a bit closer together. Each character occupies 1m so we should all be able to fit into 2-3 squares. They could conceivably be that spread out but it seems unlikely.

Also, can you give me a rundown of the weapons the other characters are carrying. I assume the guardsmen have las rifles and the heavy stubber for from the core book (by the way there is no "light" stubber only heavy stubbers) but I forgot exactly what Lauce and Ryuk picked up in the armory.

Hey Rook, I find running one combat crazy enough and now you're running two! How soon before Bjorn runs into trouble on Aurum or Kill-Team Umbra decides to start an insurrection aboard the rogue trader ship? :)

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Valid point with the PC's Ellipsis. The trouble with these maps and creating them with Maptools is that the counters are very hard to see if you scale them down too much, so I have been trying to keep the scale relatively close so the whole of it can be seen on one map without having to resort to a secondary tactical map. What you are seeing with the players is something of an abstraction and we can safely say they all would fit into Vincent's "square" and perhaps one adjacent to it (I doubt under the circumstances they would be very far apart anyway!).

That being said, I am perfectly OK with you moving the group as a party and 'stacking', I mainly wanted you to be able to see each counter at the get-go. Assume for sake of argument everyone is in Vincent's square for Round #1.

Given the prevalence of firearms in both DH and particularly DW, I'm thinking of going with a more hybrid approach (like Eradico has done with the Only War game, having tactical maps at scale and closer maps for detail, a great idea and innovation, btw!) for the larger scale set-pieces. The biggest issue with doing a single large scale map is characters seem to barely move when taking Half Action moves. As this one was more of a tweener, I elected to just go close, albeit at a more distant scale.

I'll give you a run-down of the specific weaponry tonight. Ryuk's you can find on his sheet on the wiki, but I will list out he and Launce along with the guardsmen in OOC for you too. The light stubber, is in fact a heavy stubber, I think the descriptor was just a case of my writing accidentally working into game data. It is 'light' in the sense that it is man-portable.

Wow Kaltos, fortune has sure smiled on you and yours during this fight. Although the Harvester managed a couple of hard hits early on, his rolls have been consistently atrocious since then.

It's kind of funny, I spent so much time building him up and he has turned out to be a paper tiger. Never saw this result coming!

lol well hes not out yet. I for one am not counting my chickens ;-)

The three on one melee definitely put the Harvester at a disadvantage and he would have fared much better if he had used fury earlier in the fight. That said, if a few of those rolls had gone his direction he would have wiped the floor with you Kaltos and company.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Yep, with Kaltos just having reached Rank 4, and assisted by Ivaanov (a less than martial tech-priest), and Kotts, who is essentially statted out like a stock NPC guardsman, I was trying to balance the Harvester out as a significant challenge and not an overwhelming opponent so that they would have a fighting chance.

With a fighting style, weapon and statistics that could lend itself to some very high damage results I opted to go a little lighter on the melee combat talents that would have perhaps granted him too much of an edge. I balanced this by giving him a higher Wounds total than I initially had planned. That being said, I didn't really factor in the 3-1 advantage lasting for as long as it did, because I fully expected at least one friendly character would be going down early. I had kept Frenzy in reserve for when the Harvester was on the verge or had taken Critical Damage. Like Ellipsis said, though, I think the biggest impact was that the Harvester couldn't hit the side of a house in this encounter, coupled with some really good rolls, both hitting and evading, by Kaltos and company. It's nice to see that the dice favor the players sometime, it hasn't always gone that way in this campaign. Credit is due to Kaltos for a very sound strategy going in, also.

lol well I did have many stratagems thought up going in depending on what we encountered. I was fearing an equal numbers fight much more. Basically fighting in a "corner" was all I could think up for that.

I think its a good time the fight ended for poor Vincent was beginning to have very bad luck going into his.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Ellipsis:
Ellipsis, just a quick question since I couldn't find it in my notes (I think it might have been settled in an email I no longer have). What did we decide upon for the appearance and location of Vincent's Witch-mark?

Vincent is hoping he can prevent any of the guardsmen from going crazy and doing something stupid. He has a feeling he is going to need them and their firepower if he is going to make it out of this mess.

On a more positive note, it looks like the dice gods have ceased their unjust persecution of my rolls.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

OK Ellipsis, I'll take that into account with regard to the guardsmen.

The dice have been pretty cruel of late, but they don't seem to be discriminating too much between you guys and the GM. Although zombies can't 'jam'---as far as I know!

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Sorry about the quiet week, guys, hoping to make it up this week now that work has slowed down a bit and some other commitments are complete.

Rook, are we using the original Dark Heresy combat rules or the new Only War style rules? I doesn't matter to me one way of the other, but I noticed it looked like you were using them for at least some of the actions and wanted to make sure I use the right modifiers when I post.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

Ellipsis, I've been kind of breaking in the Only War rules over the last few encounters, and they seem pretty solid. Feel free to use them as they seem the most complete/polished of the core books.

If anyone does not have access to the ruleset, use the normal Dark Heresy modifiers, and I will adjust as needed.

Dark Archive

Male Human Warhammer 40K GM

On another note, I also would like to start using the 'straight-success' on die rolls = '1 degree of success' that the more recent core books employ. As we have been using the traditional Dark Heresy method since the Tournament began, I will not start using this until the Heretics Wake Tournament is complete to avoid confusion.

I think it just makes more practical sense for interpreting die rolls.

Rookseye wrote:

Agreed and I don't think it will lead to "success bloat" in the DH campaign.

Male Catfolk Shade (magically altered human) Monk-8, Mage-16

Especially the way we have all been rolling., We are lucky to get any successes even with the new way. Lol.

Rook, I assume that Wardja's only option is to let it ride. If anyone else raises then there will be a side-pot of chips, right?

Correct, as Wardja is now all in. Raise is technically to Savalos.
