Rules and guidelines (transcribed)

Ability score creation is roll 5d6 seven times. Taking the highest three die and adding them together. Toss out the lowest of the rolls.

Races/Monsters is pretty open, especially since your 'monster' can be on the road to redemption. It could be just one step down that road, but trying.

No monster should be above a CR 5, all others will get character levels to get up to 6th. If they are above CR 5, we can de level the monster some. Also I am open to redefining a monster's abilities/reconstructing it. Total hit die would normally be 6 but with beasties sometimes you have less HD.

If a template adds 2 to the CR, then you get 4 character levels in addition.

Lets see what you can whip up in 24 hours or less.

I'm going to need more than 24 hours. At this point I should probably bow out rather than hold up everyone else. Good luck all!

Hmmm, I have two monsterish characters that were created for other campaigns, both of which failed. One is a Lyrakien Half-Fiend and the other is an Animal Lord (Giant Porcupine). Will look at them and decide what needs to be done if it is possible to make them fit.

Either way, this is an interesting concept.

Going to try out a Sasquatch Druid of some sort.

Alright, I'll try to get something up tonight but I'm gonna be on the road for two days starting tomorrow. I will try to post when we stop for the night but I cannot make any promises.

No clue what I might try to make.

EDIT - I am liking an Atomie - possibly a bard, although oracle, cleric and paladin are all options. Probably not paladin as it is not really that productive having a diminutive size front line fighter.

@ DM Wolf - how do you work the abilities? Take the base creature's, subtract 10 and then round down? So that a creature with a 13 Str would be +2, a 18 Charisma would be +8, a 21 Wis would be +10, and a 7 Con would be -4?

The 24 hour time limit is a bit constraining. Here's what I could get done tonight:

Story is up in the general sense; will fill in more detail and description.

Crunch is almost finished - still need to finish equipment and fill in feats.

I noticed the 3.5/Pathfinder bit. Are you alright with psionic classes from Dreamscarred Press? If so, I was considering a Vampire...

Background:
Golan believes he is genuinely cursed.

Left on a relative's doorstep, his mother fled to who knows where. At various times, different relatives told Golan different stories about where his mother was, which quickly lead him to the belief that adults were all liars and from there it was a quick skip down the path of cynicism.

The only thing that was pure and good in his life was his cousin Amelia. She was fair where he was dark. She was sweet while he was morbid. They did everything together, but her quicker aging left him behind as she blossomed into womanhood. When she finally settled on a single suitor, Golan railed against his cousin and grew so enraged that he fell upon her, finally giving into a side of himself that he didn't know he possessed and could no longer deny. He drank until she died.

Afterwards, horrified at what he had done, Golan fled town, traveling anywhere that promised a destination that wasn't there. Hopping from trade caravan to trade caravan, he quickly settled in a larger metropolis, apprenticing himself to a cleric of Sarenrae, who both helped him research his 'condition' and preached to him about redemption.

Helping out around the church, he quickly discovered his talent at shifting life from others to himself and back again, and refined it until he felt comfortable enough with his abilities. By this time, Golan has developed a deep seated hatred for undead, which is just a projection of his own self loathing that he has yet to confront.

Feeding is a psychosomatic behavior... his desire to feed grows in connection to his current psychological strain. To combat the urges, he proactively hunt animals, though he hasn't been above the rare nip on those he heals who may not be conscious enough to remember that something else happened.

Here's the pitch:

A Redcap who was unmagically charmed by a young elven girl's innocence, curiosity, and kindness. When they originally met, she magically stayed invisible to keep away from him but talked to him asking him why he wanted to kill her. They met once a month for years deepening their relationship. Recently, fellow redcaps or something evil that would connect him to the party killed his elven love causing him to vow to protect the innocent from the dangers of the forest, like himself.

Obviously the 24 hours was just a ploy of mine, not something I normally do...

Let's see what we have here!

A dot!

Scared someone away!

Lyrakien Half-Fiend and the other is an Animal Lord (Giant Porcupine)... Options looked to be scrapped

Sasquatch Druid....

*****You don't have to be monstrous!*******

Ptolmaeus Arvenus, did you decide not to go with your golem idea which was nearly finished?

More dots with ability scores...

More to come soon!

Atomie

Ability Modifiers....
-6 str, +4 Dex, +4 Cha

Racial...
Dr2/cold iron, sneak attack, spell like abilities, limit reduce person to 3/encounter.
Suggestions on skill bonuses?

Massive damage threshold would be 30.

Decr', great work in your short time, come on over to discussion!

No psionics.

Recap interesting and love the little beasties for good and bad. You have my interest, what class would you use or make him a CN Elder?

The 24 hour bit was to get you guys getting things done, or at least worked on like Decr.

The Lyrakien (half-fiend) and Animal Lord(giant porcupine) are still options if either is ok. I know I made the Animal Lord, but cannot find him now - it was a fun build, but sort of strange.

If the Lyrakien is acceptable - with or without the Half-Fiend template - that is a fun option. I thought the Half-fiend was a little harder to tie in with your campaign and that if she was a regular lyrakien, why would she be working with monsters. Thus, I had switched to other options and thought an Atomie who had somehow been shown the wrong of bloodshed for the fun of bloodshed would be interesting.

In either case, the character is most likely an oracle/bard/cleric, perhaps a monk/cleric to eliminate the need for really small armo. Need to figure that out.

The lyrakien is size tiny while the Atomie is diminutive - not sure what your opinion is of such small characters.

@ GM Wolf - would you allow the Bard(prankster) for an Atomie? It is specifically for Gnomes, but it just feels like something that would work well with the Atmoie's natural instincts.

Sorry. I somehow missed that earlier in the thread. I am sorry for wasting your time and mine.

GM Wolf wrote:

I was thinking Ranger for two weapon fighting with the boot stomp and scythe.

Lol - DM Doug M in our WotW campaign gave a perfect description of Red Caps. They are drunk Scottish football fans, specifically Ranger fans just after Rangers lost to Celtic.

OK I'll name my redcap Greig. He'll wear a light blue tunic and white pants.

And I'll use the English to Scottish translator.

Ok, putting together an Atomie Paladin(Sacred Shield)/Cleric of Shelyn. Not sure if this campaign is based in Golarian, but if it is not, I will adjust the deity accordingly.

Question. How are racial HD and feats handled? Atomie have Weapon Finesse and Improved Init listed as feats. Are these tied in with racial HD? The listed Atomie appears to have 2HD listed using d6 for hp. Not sure how this and racial saves should be handled.

EDIT -- Atomie racial appears to be:

hp 2d6
BAB +1
Fort +0
Reflex +3 <-- 2 HD I assume
Will +3

Do we have any starting money?

And what level specifically are we building toward? Atomie is CR1, but 2 HD (mind you they are d6). Do I get 3? 4? 5? class levels?

I have the background in my head, just need to get it typed out. Unfortunately it is almost mid-night here and I am supposed to be up early tomorrow. Will finish by then, hopefully you have not closed the recruitment by then.

Tirion I totally understand wanting to get multiple ideas out and get some input from other players and the DM. In the end I need one submission from each player.

No on the Half-fiend.

Everyone dotting and slowly creating your character, there is two more open positions and two in reserve. At this point once your application is done you claim one of the spots of your choice.

Money by level, so 6th level.

An Atomie would be coming in with its two racial HD and 4 class levels. Feel free to change the feats if you wish.

The first deadline for recruitment has passed. Second deadline is when the positions get full.

Golarian is the main material plane, the pantheon of gods is with the Inner Sea Campaign.

Ok, may I present a mostly finished Tbblbitz -- female Atomie Cleric/Paladin. <-- click on the name, I avoid posting with new avatars until they are accepted into a game.

I need to drop a Cleric level as I made her with 5 levels initially. Purpose is a healer and protector. I am likely to grab the Crusader archetype and lose the luck domain, although I have not made a final decision on this.

Background is pretty much finished, although I have not reread it for typos yet. Yeh, I stole one of the main characters from a series of books, but it just seemed right for her conversion.

------
Atomie
- I limited the Reduce Person to 1 time/1d6 rounds, probably 1d4 is better, sort of like a dragon's breath weapon recharge.

- need racial skills. Probably Bluff and stealth would be good. Also, Intimidate and Perception are options. If I had the choice, I would go with Intimidate and Perception.

Here's my guy. Need some help on game mechanics:

  • His ability scores are higher than my rolls. Need the bonuses like the Atomie, or just take his scores
  • Starting equipment
  • Plot hook to land my background into

    cheers

EDIT I found some math mistakes in the posted redcaps stats. Specifically his attacks were too high and forgot to remove for power attack. Damage was too high for why I don't know. Checking skills now...

  • Ok, getting finished. Hope I am not too late. Looks like the tiniest defensive juggernaut in history. Lots of armor, Dex and size bonuses for AC and good saves. Combat Expertise and Butterfly Sting to set up a big hitter, hopefully we have one.

    HP: 2d10 + 2d8 ⇒ (8, 6) + (7, 6) = 27 <-- decent

    Tirion Jörðhár wrote:

Well, Ibrox's critical would be 8d4+36. Big enough for you?

Yeh, Butterfly Sting + Heavy Pick/Pickaxe = lots of damage.

    Tirion
    Atomie
    - Reduce Person 1 time every 1d4 rounds, sounds good.

    - Racial skills: Intimidate and Perception, +2 for each.

    Ibrox Redcap
It all depends on how many hit die of Red Cap you are going to take. I am not going to post the whole entry...

In 3.5 Redcaps advanced in their own racial HD rather than classes.

At most you will have 6 HD. Let me know what mixture you wish to do for HD and classes.

Looking good guys. Hopefully you both can be fully done by tomorrow night.

2 HD of Fey & 4 levels of Ranger would be easier math.

Besides scaling from 8 HD to 2 HD using the Fey type here and adding 4 Ranger levels, do you have any other changes before I start editing the profile?

Sounds good. Will try to get everything fixed up tonight.

Waiting on answers to a few questions I PMed to GM Wolf. Should be able to get finished pretty quick once I have them.

Question - do we get the racial class skills for the creature - in my and Ibrox's case this would be fey?

    Ibrox, that works!

Giving you the special abilities of Edritch Stone, Powerful Build, +1 Natural Armor, DR 3/cold iron.

Tirion, yes you get the racial class skills for the creature.

    Any other questions?

Decr', Tirion, Ibrox and Rednal (Della):

I am going to have you both come in as if you were from 5 years in the future. This plane the group is in right now is weird. Both of you have been adventuring together for some time and are bringing a message to alert Wolf and his associates that the Ember city will be the first target of these creatures in the material plane. Also it will be vital to locate them and a few others in the material plane when they return. Feel free to explain the best way to find either of you in the material plane. Welcome to the world of time travel and plane shifting.

If you don't want to come in this way, just say so and I can figure out another way.

Work with me on creating a way to get you in or just go with my first suggestion. If you want to alter it somehow, please suggest ideas.

    GM:
I don't mind coming from the future, but I would like more information:
    - Who sent us? Do we have the capability to return?
    - What were we/I doing during the past 5 years ago?
    - What are "these creatures"? What do we know about them in the future?
    - What do we/I know about Wolf and his associates from the future?

    About Ibrox:

What is Edritch Stone? Can't find anything with a Google search on OGC.

Is Powerful Build from the Half Giant, replacing Heavy Weapons?

    Spoiler:
Powerful Build: The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for a Combat Maneuver Bonus or Combat Maneuver Defense (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A half-giant is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature's special attacks based on size (such as grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A half-giant can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject's size category.

I assume these replace the +3 and DR/10:
+1 Natural Armor, DR 3/cold iron.

He keeps Boot Stomp, Irreligious, and Redcap as is, right?

    thanks

    GM:
For my part, would the time travel bring Decr to before his family was killed?

Do we know why it is important to get this message to Wolf?

Are we together or split up in the material world? If together, would there be a place we know that Wolf is going to show up?

Boot stomp or Eldritch stone, your choice... Honesty boot stomp is better, E stone allows you to enhance 3 stones with Eldritch powers making them magical, 1d6 damage, and a +1 magical bonus.

Yes powerful build replaces heavy weapons. I was looking at the redcap from 3.5.

The redcap and Irreligious stays the same.

    Group of new characters/group 2:

    - Who sent us? Do we have the capability to return? Wolf sent you from the future.
    - What were we/I doing during the past 5 years ago? You get to choose, Ibrox was likely doing good things and working with Wolf's group of protectors.
    - What are "these creatures"? What do we know about them in the future? The creatures are from deep Ether, Wolf in the future knows little about them and wants to make sure to learn as much as possible to best prepare the group for the invasion.
    - What do we/I know about Wolf and his associates from the future? They are a group that protects the innocent and core races from the threats and knowledge of the creatures that bump in the night. Think of Hellboy.

Group 2, knows that Wolf and his starting troupe are on this island. Something horrible happens and they leave early. Wolf from the future hopes that with sending you back he will have more time to stay on the island and learn more. None of you are part of his group yet and that is why he can send you back.

You are to give them information to find each of you, where you would have been five years ago. Decr' it is up to you if your family would still be alive, maybe cutting it close, Wolf also warned that if you sent them to change your past fate has a way of changing things for the worse. If your family is saved, they could contract a disease that slowly makes them wither away or natural disaster might happen. You are fated to be an adventurer and the death of your family is horrible but it shaped you to be that adventurer.

Wolf right now is on a Demi plane and is one of the easiest places to use time travel. Group 2 is not with Wolf in the past but dispersed, you will give them directions to collect each of you, hoping to gain the power needed to push back the coming invasion or stop it before it starts.

    Any questions?

    GM:
So we will be playing our past selves after handing off info on how to find us?

Past Decr can be found heading towards the edge of a great forest, having recently encountered creatures that may be like those we are to warn Wolf and his crew about. He hasn't had much luck with the humans he has encountered, but is seeking help against such creatures.

I'm ready to go whenever you want to put us in.

    Decr is ready
    Ibrox?
    Tirion? Atomie?
    Rednal?

    Group 2:

You will be playing with the stats that you have now, though you can assume you have 3 more levels being from the future. Your stats right now show who you will be once they encounter you on this demiplane.

Tirion here -- I think that I am ready. Sorry for the delay. I will be able to post some in the morning, but will then be at a Con this weekend in Nashua, NH (if anyone is going to be there, let me know) - Thurs night - Sunday afternoon. Might get a few posts in, but cannot guaranty anything.

I would post now, but am really tired and don't think I would do a first post in a campaign justice right now. I will read over the background you have up in the morning and get a first post up.

Are we supposed to be posting in the IC/OOC yet?

If the others in Group 2 are ready, Tbblbitz can have a nap in someone's pack while the player is away.

I am wanting the whole group to be ready before moving forward. It sounds like the three of you are ready. I will bring in Rednal later when she is ready, (no response from her).

    I just haven't come up with a concept I really want to play here. XD;

I know, take your time we will get you in Rednal once you figure out your concept. How about fire or an element? :D

Ibrox?!? If you are ready you and Decr' will be popping in...
Decr' if you want to go in and when the little ones can respond when they can.

Wolf, I've been very busy since you answered my questions and haven't had enough time to rebuild the character. I need at least 20 minutes, which I haven't had today. I'll get to it in about 16 hours. Need to sleep and get the kids off to camp...

    cheers

Cheers, get to it when you can. Until then you can be in the woods hunting. Understand you will find nothing to hunt, so it will be a very long time until you give up! XD

Ok, more or less back from the Con. Let me know when I wake up from whatever pack I was sleeping in.

Wake up and join gameplay whenever you want Tbblblitz!
