Lorenzo, feeling energized by the sip, and at Dr. Benne's urging, finishes his glass of "wine". "Anything more unusual than a man crumbling to dust as he dies, no. Something else odd, certainly. The man seemed to be interested in a crate. I took a look into the crate to ease my own curiosity, and found a large amount of religious paraphenalia and a large number of sharpened chair legs."
:-) You may add one blood point to your character sheet for so long as you retain that bp you may add one dot of Potence as well. If you are injured you may also use that blood to heal. You may not use it to increase attributes temporarily.
Dr. Benne looks a bit dismayed for a split second then his face is impassive again.
"So it would seem that there are other witch hunters here besides your acquantaince. The question now becomes who is the mystery figure which Narses' agent met with before his demise? There is a good chance that figure will recruit others. We must find them.
First though I will assign you to your first task. You must convince this Signore Volkov that the death of Hans is due to some natural cause. I will leave it to you to determine how best to do so. I wanr you not to arouse his suspicion as he is likely a very dangerous man. I will return in two nights time to check on your progress. Is there any other question you wish to ask of me before I take my leave?"
do I know of this Signore Ansora ?!? Michael responds as any hospitable host would welcoming his guest into his office "Signore Renaldo the please is all mine please come in. How can I be of service to you today?" Michael walks back to his chair and motions for his company to take a seat along with him.
As you finish your sentence the breeze picks up mysteriously in both directions bringing the ships together. Grappling hooks are thrown by the crew of the black ship and they latch onto the rails of your ship.
The Captain smirks, "Not long now. Come I will go across with you and make introductions. After that we will part ways. I trust that you have found my service and hospitality to your satisfaction and perhaps we can meet again in the future".
With that said he heads towards the black ship and steps onto the gangplank lowered by his crew. What do you do?
"Working together in the future would bring us much coin. How would I go about contacting you?" After our exchange I will follow him towards the black ship.
Lucious Ansora is the guy you were looking for two nights ago.
The man enters sits and gives you a hard stare. "I believe you were looking for us, hard Signore Santo. I trust I am not wasting my time here".
"I have a contact in your city a Lucious Ansora. Find him, he can find me".
You step onto the black ship and are greeted by a small entourage of men. One is a Spaniard like Captain Domingo wearing a flamboyant hat with two cutlasses sheathed on each hip. Three others are dressed in robes the likes of which you would no doubt see in Egypt each holds a hooded lantern giving off just enough light to see by.
The last figure wears a dark cloak and hood. His hands are covered in tattoos, he is dark skinned and about your height.
The Captain addresses him, "Lord Sadir I present to you Signore Michele Querini Councilor of Venice as you requested".
Sadir stares at him then at you then back at the Captain. "He is not as I requested. He is injured Captain Domingo. Do you care to explain why thus is the case?"
The Captain clears his throat, "There was a misunderstanding over a card game. Such things happen on pirate ships my Lord".
"Bring the man that injured Mr. Querini to this ship. Then be on your way. The payment had already been loaded on your vessel".
The Captain opens his mouth to object and one of the men with a lantern turns to him, "You may stay in this man's place if you object".
The Captain shuts his mouth and nods heading back to his ship and calling out in Spanish likely for his crew to produce the easterner.
Sadir turns to you again, "Walk with me Mr. Querini, I am sure you have many questions feel free to ask away". The three hooded figures move with you while the other man heads towards the front of the ship.
" Lord Sadir- a pleasure to meet you after all these years of doing business together. The question that begs to be asked is, Why after all these years did you need to see me in person in such haste?"
"You are direct I like that. I have also found my association with you to be quite valuable. For a long time o have attempted to operate within Venice, it was not until my agents came into contact with you that my.business began to flourish. I would have preferred to leave well enough alone but those to whom I owe fealty have placed a great burden upon me. Thus have I called upon you. Your reward for this will be beyond measure if you serve me well".
He stops at the back of the ship looming over a trap door. Gesturing to one of the hooded figures to open it. As it opens a horrible smell turns your nose, sounds of moaning and despair from people rise out of the hole. "I am to deliver these whores to the city, to a Tavern named Greetings. Obviously slavery is outlawed in your Republic so I will need you to call in all of your favors to see to it that the delivery is not questioned or even glanced at by Venetian authorities. For this I believe your personal presence wad required. Do you understand now?'
Wincing in a little pain "I now understand the urgency of my presence. Anything can be arranged with enough coin to avert the eyes of those who would utter a word. How many whores are there so I can understand how and when to move them to this tavern?"
"It must be done under the cover of night. There are two hundred in there. They will be staying at the Greetings Tavern not the Inn. Under no circumstances must the ship be in port for the entire night thus it must be complete in one night".
Raising a brow when I hear of 200 women.. When are we expected back? I will need a few hours to make arrangements and drop coin when we return. Are they all accounted for or may I have one?" I will smile after my last statement
"We can make it in two days. I would prefer to wait near the city and approach the third day to give you the entire night to handle these affairs. Once we close on the city I will be taking an alternate route in. I will contact you once I have settled".
Sadir smiles at your last comment, "Would you prefer male or female?"
"Bring her back? My friend she never left, it is simply that you cannot see her. I assure you there are ways to bring her back across to the land of the living but this will take time years in fact to perfect. In the meantime once you have completed the task I have given to you, I will find a way for you to communicate with her".
"Tis smaller tha I thought but wit more land therbouts could be some potential in growin pipeweed, I see now why he's never been able tah go it alone an get tha farm goin."
"Donnach I knew yad be up fer a late night an a trip tah tha country in tha morrow. I always say God helps em who helps emselves."
Aodhan and Luag head back up to the room to alternate between sleeping and watching for English assassins.
Donnach leans into you and whispers in Gaelic, "What are we goin ta this warehouse fer anyway? Can't we just talk about the pipeweed on the morrow when we see the plot?"
Excellent, then I will go across on the 2nd day and make arrangements for the next night. A female would suffice. Humanity roll 7d10 7d10 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 1, 5, 6, 3) = 33
"Excellent idea Mr. Querini. I will pick a choice female for you. Come to my quarters and let us celebrate".
Sadir brings you below deck to quite nice quarters. His attendants remain above. He gestures for you to sit as he pours a glass of wine for you both. "To our new partnership". What do you do?
As you drink you realize that you are condoning treating people like chattel you try to push the feeling down but it simply stays on your mind. Lose 1 Humanity.
The wine is delicious. Each sip you take makes you eager to take another. You feel invigorated by the drink.
Sadir smiles, "Have a few more glasses my friend, I would be willing to bet that the properties of this will have a most beneficial effect on your injuries".
"I do appreciate your coming Mr. Ansora I must say you are quite hard to get a hold, but let me cut to the Chase so we can avoid wasting each others time. I am looking for a man named Michele Querini. Michele often makes use of my Gondola services transporting goods, but Michele only contacts me when he needs me. Now I would like to discuss an opportunity for him but I have been unsuccessful in finding his know where about. That's why I'be been looking for you. Can you assist me in this matter?
In between sips, "A fine wine like this always makes the body and mind feel better. It is an honor to share it with you." If we are drinking for a few hours I would most likely consume 5 or 6 glasses.
"I am Renaldo, Signore Ansora does not meet with just anyone. Now you seek someone Signore Querini a member of the Grand Council. It is not easy to gain an audience with such powerful men. This of course begs the question what do you offer us in exchange for facilitating this meeting?"
Antonio stands and kisses your hand in greeting he then pulls out your chair to the table then settles himself once you are situated.
The restaurant is quaint but certainly not top notch. Then again this man is a guardsman so it is likely that his pay does not rival that of a merchant.
"Yes I am glad as well. It is a rare thing to have time off but my Captain granted me such leave to pursue this opportunity with you. Work must not stand in the way of romance no? Tell me Signora Volkov are you here on a permanent basis?"
The night is thoroughly enjoyable as you sit in a cabin as comfortable as any room you have ever been in. The wine and conversation flows freely. Sadir let's you do all of the talking. He asks you about your family, its history, your current agenda, and what you wish to accomplish. He nods seemingly approving of your lifes choices.
He is also quite interested in the current political affairs of the city. You pique his interest when you tell him about the rivalry between the Pope and the Doge it seems he was not aware of the development.
Do you want to toss out any questions before you are done for the evening.
Sadir turns to you as the dawn approaches, "It is time for you to retire to your own quarters my friend. I will see you on the morrow". As Sadir finishes speaking one of hs attendants retrieves you to lay down in your own room.
When you wake in the morning all of your wounds from the knifefight are healed. Add 3 blood points and one dot of Potence to your character sheet.
"I think so Antonio. I am tired of my brother always dragging me from place to place on his business. It has been decades, well it seems like decades since I did anything for me. I seem to have fallen in love with this city. I will need to find a place to stay that is away from him, if I truly am to be free."
"I am sorry Mr Renaldo I will do well to remember that. My business has been well I can pay a decent sum to have this meeting arranged, or if you would like to barter a bit I do run a Gondola service which can come in handy for transporting people and goods safely through the city. What else could you possible wish for in exchange of locating someone whom your well familiar with that utilizes my services quite often. If it is to much to just tell me where to find him or at least let him know I am requesting him come by for a chat. I am sure he will show up sooner or later."
Michael gazes at Renaldo in anticipation of a response Is the Grand Council Public knowledge?
at some point during the conversation I would like to ask " So when and where do I return these whores when your associates are done with them?" at the end of the night after Sadir's last comment " many thanks again for the good drink and conversation. Perhaps tomorrow I can learn some of your grand adventures."
"Why do you seek to get away from your brother? You must value family my Lady, when all others abandon you they will be there to aid you. If perhaps he is violent my place is small but safe..."
"Ah but if it was so easy to obtain his attention you would not reach out to Signore Ansora no? Ducats are nice but Signore Ansora prefers to barter information. As one who ferries around so many people is there any information that you have which may be worth the price of arranging a meeting for you?"
Yep Grand Council rules the Republic, very public knowledge.
"Yes a fresh start. While I cannot offer you a manor house or fine jewels, a fresh start I can offer to you Signora. Do you wish to stay with me this evening or am I too forward?"
Lorenzo, Xing Shi, Katriana, and Michele are done for the evening. Michael and Andrew still have some things to resolve. Is Sergei in for the evening? Gunther is experiencing internet issues so I may have to pass him for the evening.
