Actually you know where they are going, let's just assume you get underway. I will post more on this later. Feel free to interact on the gondola in the meantime.
Volkov Prologue – Storyteller Shadow and Michael Santo::
Surprisingly, Sergei breaks the silence with a question. "So, Michael, how long have you lived in Venice? Such a different place than the snow-laden streets I am used to."
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
The man does not respond to the joviality in the room in any way. "I would like to conduct my business with you in a private place. I assume you do have such a place?"
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
Gunther laughs heartily along with the two long-time patrons sitting at the bar before him. Placing his hands upon the bar, he turns his attention towards the stranger.
“I’m Gunther. What can I do for ya, friend? Cold ale? A hot meal? Or are you looking for lodging for the night?”
Lorenzo, Michele, and Xing let's hold here until the others catch up. By tomorrow the first night of prologues should be complete and we can move to the next set of scenes.
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
The man follows behind saying nothing. As the door closes you feel a slight chill but shake it off. The man is very still his body does not have many of the involuntary actions most people do, there is something unusual about him but you shrug it off as being a foreigner, though his Italian is absolutely perfect.
"I represent a consortium which would like the use of your facilities. Guests would be arriving on March 16 and their journey here should be complete by March 18. We will require all of your facilities until March 28th at the earliest. We will need the premises closed to all outsiders during that time this includes the rooms and the tavern. We shall supply our own food and drink as well as attendants. Does this offer interest you?"
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
Spoiler:
Gunther cups his chin with his hand and sratches at his scruffy beard as he tries to discern what is so unusual about this strange gentleman. He can't quite put his finger on it, but business is business.
"Well, that is quite an intriguing business proposition you have to offer. Of course, I would have to ask for payment in advance, you understand."
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
The man smiles at your response. "Of course. You Venetians are sharp businessmen. I propose a counter-offer. Half now and half once we are finished conducting our business".
The man reaches into his cloak and produces a sack which jingles. He places it on a shelf next to Gunther. "I trust this is sufficient?" The man's voice has an eerie edge to it which alone entices you to accept his offer. What do you do?
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
:
Gunther eyes the payment placed upon the shelf for a moment before reaching for it and taking into his hands. Judging from the sound it made and now from its sheer weight, it appears to be more than he expected. Knowing full well that to begin counting it would be a direct insult, he merely holds the payment casually in his hands.
"Sufficient, indeed. We have an arrangement. You will find everything ready for you and your companions in two days time. I will close the tavern and the inn to all outsiders during your stay. However, I will be around to monitor the place on occasion and to be nearby in case there is anything you and the others should need. Agreed?"
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
"Two days time? I will not need to fully utilize the establishment for 18 days. Perhaps though allowing more time for my guests to arrive is a good thing. Very well I will accept the extended period of time you offer and reward you accordingly. Do you live here in the establishment or just close by?"
Michael Santos prologue. Storyteller shadow + volkovs:
"I have been here for a number of years. 2 decades to be exact. I came here in search of riches, and here I've remained... there is something about this place that has not allowed me to escape the serenity of these venetian walls. There's an old tale that travelers who sail these waters under a stary moon lit night like tonight will be granted safe passage and good fortune. In days to come. Are you here for business or pleasure?" Michael continues to row the gondola towards designated location.
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
:
Gunther could feel the blood rush to his face from feeling a little bit awkward for having misunderstood the stranger. It must be the way he speaks, the tone in his voice, or the icy chill he gets just from being around him. Either way, there was something about this gentleman that made Gunther a bit uneasy.
"My apologies, I misunderstood, but since you can actually make use of my inn and tavern then I will certainly make sure to accommodate you. And to answer your question, my family and I live nearby, right next door, in fact."
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
"See that you do not disturb us during our work. Should I have need of you I will call upon you. Many of my guests have disconcerting habits and we will need to make accomodations for them. Worry not you will be well compensated for any issues which arise. More important than that is discretion , I require that those I do business with understand that my business is private . I trust I am clear?" The hypnotic sound to his voice resonates in your mind.

Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
:
With his mind clouded and hazy, the stranger's voice continues to echo softly and melodiously.
"Of course! I understand completely Sir. Do not concern yourself about discretion. You and your associates will be able to conduct your business privately and without any interruptions. Welcome to Greetings! Enjoy your stay."
Volkov Prologue – Storyteller Shadow and Michael Santo:
As the gondala moves effortlessly through the canals of the city Katriana and Sergei take in the wonders of the city, truly this is a beautiful place. A pity it is infested with vermin but Sergei knows that he will soon exterminate that vermin. Michael gets his pole stuck at the bottom of the canal as the group nears their destination, an Inn called "Greetings" right on the canal. Michael apologizes for the delay and yanks the pole up.
Bubbles simmer to the top of the water quickly followed by something large. As it bumps the botton of the boat it turns over. Michael's eyes widen in horror as the face is that of his "late" employee.
Francois looks grimly at the body and spins around to see if there is anyone about.
Michael make a willpower roll difficulty 8 to resist retching, you have never seen a dead body before especially someone that you know. How to format the dice roller can be found below in the box "how to format your text".
Gunther Thesing Prologue - Storyteller Shadow and Gunther Thesing:
"This engagement will be most fortuitous for you I am sure. Anyone who belongs here will tell you that they are guests of Mr. Kestral. If they do not have such an invitation you will know that they are guests who should be turned away. I shall return on March 17 to ensure that the proceedings go smoothly. Have a good evening Mr. Thesing". Mr. Kestral nods to you and steps out of the small meeting area heading down the hall towards the tavern and presumably out. You open the bag and look inside your eyes widen as the coins are solid gold and Venetian mint. If this is half of what you will be paid by the end of his stay Mr. Kestral will make you a wealthy man, fortuitous indeed.
We will assume that you head back to the tavern and the rest of the night proceeds uneventfully. The Inn at night is tended by one of your employees so that you may focus on the tavern but the next day you will likely inform him that any long term stays should be given notice that they must be out within three days time.

Volkov Prologue – Storyteller Shadow and Michael Santo:
Sergei, angered, yells. "Not again!! We've been here 5 minutes and already!!" He grabs the body and pulls it into the boat, searching for signs of trauma.
Michael stares at the body and begins to cough he manages, barely, to hold down his dinner.
Katriana you see nothing in the surrounding area.
Sergei water pours out of the body and your good clothes smell of dirty water and death. Grimacing at the stench you begin to look for signs of foul play.
Sergei make an Intelligence + Medicine roll as you look at the body.
Michael speaks in a frantic voice" "NOT AGAIN", what do you mean not again does this happen often ?!? Just who are you people?!?" Michael squats down as his legs feel like spagetti... Arched over as if to hurl in the water but catches only his reflection...
Intelligence + Medicine 2d10 ⇒ (8, 5) = 13
"There is much you don't know Michael. Maybe one day we can fill you in, but for the moment I am not sure what happened here." Sergei replies. He leaves the body in the gondola and asks Michael.
"What do we do with him?"
"Let's put him on the bank if the canal for now. We don't need to attract this much attention this fast Sergei", suggests Francois.
Sergei you do not see the telltale signs you are looking for. In fact you see ni trauma at all. Beyond that you will need a doctor to examine him to reveal more.
Let me know what you would like to do. According to Michael you are just a few blocks from your destination.
Michael Santos prologue storyteller shadow + volkovs:
Michael stares at the dead body still shaking. "Here anyone old enough to hold their own cup drinks but the river is ever constant in our minds ... Yes this is my first dead body I have seen." pauses for a moment to gather his nerve. "Leave him here. I will notify his family. A proper burial would be in order. Just give me a minute to wrap my head around it all. "
Michael Santos prologue storyteller shadow + volkovs:
"Yes it is unnerving the first time. At least his death was a peaceful one, my sister was not so lucky". A look of pain crosses his face. "We should not leave him here though who knows what will happen to him. Let us take a detour and bring him to the church or a doctor for proper preparation for burial. Is there someplace close you know of Mr. Santos?"
Michael Santos ONLY:
You do know that generally Venice likes a body to be examined before it is buried to ensure that no foul play is involved. Make an Intelligence + Hearth Wisdom to determine if you know someone local nearby to bring it to.
"I will be the first to admit I am no good at examining a body. I would like to know what the doctor thinks." Sergei replies, still searching the area for the tell-tale signs....
You reroute the gondala to Dr. Arrigino's house and step off the gondola with the body of the unfortunate employee. Knocking on the front door you hear a window above open. "Why are you disturbing my family at this ungodly hour?!"
Michael Santos prologue storyteller shadow + volkovs:
Michael looks up towards the window and calls out "Please good Sir Arrigino it is I, Michael Santos, I know the hour is late but we impore you to work your trade. A body has been recovered from the river."
The window shuts and a few minutes later the front door opens. An older gentleman in night clothes opens the door. "Master Santos. I have used your business in the past. Who is this unfortunate soul you have brought to me on this evening?" The man steps back to allow you all inside. FYI the employees name was Hans an immigrant from the east European lands, you are unsure if his family situation.
Michael Santos prologue storyteller shadow + volkovs:
Michael helps carry the body inside the house."This man was a former employee of mine, by the name of Hans. He had emerged from the water when I struck him with a pole while working my last fare of the night."
"Very well. Leave him here and I will see to him in the morning. If I need to contact him I am sure I can find you. Have a good night I am sorry for your loss".
Michael brings his fare to Greetings and aids them off if the vessel with their luggage. Michaels somber mood leaves the Volkov's and Francois with a twinge sadness, deaths seems to cling to them like mist in the forests even in the most mundane circumstances. A senseless death by accidental drowning though is better than... other fates.
The Volkov's are greeted by the night innkeeper whose name they fail to remember as they ate exhausted from the long journey. Wilhelm Sergei's man is in the room, he assures the twins the others are nearby. Sleep takes them.
Michael heads home saddened by the tragic York of the night. He is awake for long hours before sleep finally takes him.
End of first night prologues. I will pick the game back up Sunday morning.
You wake in the morning with a loud buzz in your ears. Unfortunately this is not a fly you can swat away but a bug you brought on yourself. Church bells ring in the distance and the smell of fresh breakfast wafts into your small guest bedroom. You step out into the kitchen where Marco and Gino are cooking. "About time you are awake cousin. Let's eat fast. We can't miss the second mass of the morning or your mother will kill us!" Grimacing you sit down to eat. What would you like to do?
Xing Shi:
The rays of the morning sun refresh you. Somehow you managed to hang on and stay awake the entire night. The frost in your body begins to thaw as you continue to observe the apartments across the way. Through the window you can see your mark better now, he is a relatively young man and actually fairly attractive for a Gaijin. Looking around you see that your position does not provide as much coverage as it did under the cloak of night. Make a Dexterity + Stealth roll Difficulty of 7 to conceal yourself better. You still do not know his name or where he lives so your hunt must continur and rest will have to wait a bit longer.
Lorenzo Cappelli:
In the morning with an abbreviated nights’ sleep, not that you sleep much anyway these days, you wake up to go search for Dominic. You hear church bells and remember that he still believes in fairy tales like vampires and God so you head to church to see if you can find him there. You of course know that there is no God, how could there be? Even if there was you would not want to meet a God so cruel that he would take your precious Constancia away from you. Making your way through the morning crowds you are able to push through and find your brother sitting in a pew towards the back. What do you do?
Sergei and Katriana Volkov:
You both wake to the sound of a man knocking on your door. Wilhelm opens the door, “I asked not to be disturbed”, he states cooly but with an edge of menace. “Pardon me but I was instructed to let you know that we will need to cut your stay short”, replies the man not fazed by Wilhelm’s tone. “This is outrageous I have pre-paid for this room!” states Wilhelm. “I don’t make the rules but by March 3 you must vacate. If you wish to speak with the owner, Gunther, you may. He will be available after 4 pm this evening”. With that the man leaves to go on to the next room. What do the Volkov’s do?
Michael Santos:
Church bells ring nearby your home waking you much earlier than you would have liked. The events of the prior night still haunt you. Between Hans’ body and the cold reaction those visitors gave you are not sure which one was worse. You ready yourself for church. You don’t think much about it one way or the other but despite their apparent resistance to following the dictates of the Pope, these Venetians make it to church every Sunday. To keep up appearances you do too. As you open the door to step into your gondola (of course you live ON the canal) there is a note tacked to your door.
Chaio Michael. Unable to sleep after you woke me I examined your friend. I did not find any marks on his body but I also did not see the signs I would expect to see from a drowning victim though admittedly this is also not my specialty. Please contact his family and determine whether they will allow a more full examination. This often involves cutting open the deceased and families may object to this treatment of their loved ones. If they approve, I have a colleague who no longer practices but may see to the procedure for the right price. Let me know. My apologies for disturbing you on this day, give my condolences to the man’s family and may the Lord bless and keep you.
It is signed Dr. Arrigino. What do you do?
Gunther Thesing:
Generally you sleep late on a Sunday and attend the latest mass possible. Today though you are feeling great after the deal you closed last night. You take your wife and daughter to mass and make a large donation to the church coffers thanking God for this unique opportunity, you have never even heard of a deal like this before! On the way home you stop to treat the family to break their fast on a hearty meal. Your wife is scandalized by your splurging but you know that these opportunities are rare so you indulge. When you return home, Cyrano, your daytime employee is at your front door.
“Master Thesing. I received your note about informing guests about their need to vacate the premises. Some of them are not so happy about this arrangement especially one group who had pre-paid for a week. I am not sure if you would like to speak with them or not”. What do you do?
Lorenzo makes his way over to the pew in which his brother sits. Taking a seat next to him he says, "Good morning, Dominic. After you are done listening to the....sermon," he say bitting his tongue before calling the sermon a fantasy instead, "I wish to speak with you about something...perhaps in private."
Dominic smiles and puts his arm around you. "Of course, of course good to see you out". The priest drones on and on in Latin of course and finally gets to the gospel.
"You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect".
Amen respond the worshippers most of whom probably have no idea what was said. "Not an easy maxim to live by eh brother? If only the Pope and the Dofe could love one another we could all get back to business", chuckles Dominic.
As you walk out with Dominic he waves to a young man who waves back, the man looks exhausted, as if he had little sleep the night before. Dominic continues walking until you reach a cafe on the edge of the lagoon overlooking the Sea. You remain silent until an order is placed and you are both alone.
"This should be quiet enough Lorenzo. Tell me do you need some more, favors from me?" Though his face is serene his eyes betray a weariness as they gaze at you.
Xing Shi cracks her neck as she waits and looks about ensuring no one see's her. Quickly moving to a new location and hiding still waiting for her mark to make his next move.
Dex + Stealth 7d10 ⇒ (8, 8, 7, 7, 2, 7, 3) = 42
"What? Favors...no, no, no." Lorenzo says, shaking his head in disagreement with Dominic's assumption.
"One of you night watchmen came to see me last night. Some sort of altercation in one of the warehouses, and he wished for me to see if there was anything I could do for the intruder....he passed in the most curious way, he simply dissolved into dust. Seemed he was interested in a crate full of religious items and broken chair legs."
Before continuing, Lorenzo takes a sip of wine, [b]"Tell me, brother, what is going on, or does none of this make any sense to you?"
Looking towards Marco I say "Yes...you are right...but what a strange night. Who do you think those men where? I wonder if they left behind those strange weapons because I am curious if there is a new faction in town."
Upon reading the note left by the Doc. Michael thinks things over.oO(I would like to see this through to the end. If Hans didn't drown then what happened?!?) Micheal heads towards the location of Hans family home.
