Garra |
We are off duty, so it wouldn't be too much fo a stretch to say that we're out of uniform.
Garra busies herself with looking at the menu, and anyone that watches her for any length of time can see her mouthing out words with a confused look on her face as she reads. After a few minutes, her head falls to the table as one hand holding the menu cants to the side as her forearm stands straight up. Her other arm covers her head, and a soft groan can barely be heard coming from the archer.
"I can't understand a word of this," she mumbles. "What does sot-tee even mean?!"
Karola Kraal |
I'd expected us to be in uniform (ish, maybe shirt collar and jacket is unbuttoned, not wearing tie etc, but uniform trousers, boots, shirt and jacket), though it's also not on my sheet.
Karola barely glances at the menu. "I'll have the steak," she says, "ultra-rare, and the gazpacho to start. Pureed and warmed to body temperature." With a smile, she turns to Garra. "Sauté is quickly fried in a little hot fat - cooked, basically."
Custos The Sentinel |
Custos doesn't bother with the menu sitting upon the table, it wasn't like he cooked himself or had any reason to eat. As the waiter approaches, he keeps an eye out for anything of interest and listens to the conversations nearby.

Garra peeks out at the halfling from under her hair and arm for a moment before swallowing her pride.
"I've never been somewhere this fancy, what would you order if you were me?"
"I suggest the duck, my lady," says the little halfling. He then turns to Kut and affirms his order. " . . . A pint of the Nightwood Ale, yes sir."
The little halfling takes everyone's order and then returns to the kitchens.
Custos The Sentinel |
Custos does not seem to be bothered at all by the lack of food brought out to him and doesn't appear to take any offense. It was what was expected, after all. Warforged do not sleep, they do not eat, they do not breathe, they do not grow tired. It was why they were such obvious choices as weapons of war.
He smiles at the waiter, shaking his head before leaning down towards the others. There appeared to be no conversations happening nearby for him to eavesdrop into and listen in,so he focuses his attention on his three fellow cadets.
"So what shall we do now? Return to the academy? I am certain there are more tomes to study in preparations to our lessons."
Custos The Sentinel |
Custos and Garra almost share the exact same expression, as he nods a little and seems to settle in for the long haul. He didn't quite understand the appeal of shows, time could be better spent learning or practicing. At least it gave them something to do while eating, the whole process looked terribly time consuming.
Karola Kraal |
Karola picks at her soup, once it arrives, and resists the server's attempts to clear it for the main course - and once her raw meat arrives, still dripping blood, she happily dumps it into her soup and eagerly begins to slurp the thick, body-warm tomato-and-blood mixture down.
Glancing up, she pushes away the rest of her plate, loaded with grits and roasted mushrooms. "Feel free," she offers it to the group. "It'll only go to waste."
Garra |
Garra, not particularly enjoying the duck, dives into the grits and mushrooms with relish.
The show lightens her mood a little, and with a full belly, she finally seems to be relaxing some as she nurses a stein full of a fruity ale she'd found to her tastes.
Custos The Sentinel |
Custos sits back in his seat and enjoys the performance, the beautiful song on stage catching his imagination despite his grudging attitude towards it. The dark, green orbs that were his eyes looked over the others assembled at the table, taking in each one of them. It was an introspective moment, seeing what each one did when left alone and were quiet. The careful eyes of Ilbryn as he studied those that moved around them, the way that Garra had seemed to sit up more and the tension from earlier seemed to be less now. There was the curious way that the Karola ate her soup and meal, raising questions but showing off an oddly human side of herself. Kutishek's smile as the song went along, the way he spoke about the young halfling's voice. It was a quiet moment and the soldier was happy, even relaxed at the moment if a Warforged could relax. Some times, it was good to be off-duty.
EltonJ |
The song stops and people clap. It was a beautiful song about Halfling heritage. She then thanks the audience for their claps and then starts singing a song about Karrnath's current king, King Kaius III. It sounds like a mournful dirge through the most of it.
After the song is complete, you see your commanding officer enter the Red Lady. He was apparently looking for you.
"Ah, there you are," he says. "Good work on finding the Universal Solvent. But we need you back at the academy. One of you is out of uniform as well."Custos The Sentinel |

Upon spotting their commanding officer entering into the establishment, Custos sits up and murmurs to the others.
"It is Officer Rykes. Everyone, at attention."
When the man approaches, the massive construct would rise at attention and salute when the man steps towards them, enunciating clearly when he speaks. "Sir.
He looks down at his appearance, frowning for a moment before nodding. "My apologies Sir. I was instructed there were none at my size. I will rectify the situation posthaste."
The Warforged almost seems relieved to be leaving the ritzy inn, eager to return to the more practical study of tactics and strategy. He felt more natural there, everything just made more sense.
EltonJ |
"No it wasn't," Lieutenant Rykes replied. "Darguun has sent some hobgoblins in the forest and a group of adventurers had taken care of them with some help. I want you all to return to the academy and continue your training. Baroness Illyana ir'Menethil may want to choose some new officers for her live ranks."
He saluted Custos. "You may need to be fitted for a proper uniform."
EltonJ |
"Sounds good, Sir. So the goal is to get selected, and then to deal with some hobgoblins?"
"Possibly selected as officers," Rikes says. "Adventurers typically get passed up. And I hear you have had an adventure of your own, recently."
Custos The Sentinel |
The idea of a promotion gains the Warforged's absolute attention, as the large steel man nods for a moment. "The trouble with the corrupt guard was of little issue. We simply did our part."
He looks to the others, smiling. "If we are all paid, shall we go? I wish to have this proper uniform for my attire."
Custos The Sentinel |
Custos will look down at where Garra was, frowning for a moment before looking around for the girl.
"She must've gotten excited to return to the academy. Perhaps we're helping turn her around!" The thought brings a smile to the Warforged's face as he reaches into his coin purse and leaves the appropriate change behind.
"It appears she was too excited to begin our assignment. We should catch up with her. Officer Rikes." He gives a polite bow of his head to his superior before lifting up the massive blade up from where it was leaning against the table. Out he would walk, making his way towards the Academy with a skip in his step. Officers? What would they be doing? This was exactly what he wanted, he would have to write to Cornelius.
That was hilarious, I approve.
Karola Kraal |
With a sigh that's half admiration, half frustration, Karola pays Garra's bill right along with her own, then hurried to catch up.
"You know you owe me a meal," she whispers, directly into Garra's ear, her breath entirely devoid of body heat...
Garra |
Garra stiffens at the whisper, and gulps at Karola's words.
You're not, umm, gonna take that from my neck are you, she asks, seeming more than a little nervous.
Oh f!$%! I've just pissed off a vampire!
Karola Kraal |
"Whatever made you think that, Garra," Karola smiles. "It's not like I'm a vampire or anything."
Karola smiles at Garra... and are her canine's just the tiniest bit longer than normal? Even with the bright midafternoon sunlight reflecting from them, it's hard to tell...
Garra |
"Eep!"
It takes a moment for the archer to find her voice again, when she does so, it's a good bit shakier than it was.
"B-b-b-but the steak, an-an-and your breath not being hot," she stammers, her voice quiet.
Custos The Sentinel |
"Indeed, she cannot be a vampire." Custos will say, stepping up to the others as they make their way back towards the Academy. "A vampire in daylight would be destroyed, that is a common weakness of their kind." He would look at the pale woman, with her longer canines that catch the sunlight just right. "Definitely not a vampire."
EltonJ |
When you get back to the Academy, you notice this on one of the notice boards.
NOTICE
Thieves have been stealing both gold from the common citizen, and bodies from our beloved cemeteries. The thieves must be found and apprehended before more damage can be done.
See the Master of Swords at the academy for details.
Signed,
Baroness Ilyana ir'Menenthil.
Custos The Sentinel |
Custos stops at the notice board and reads the task that is being left there. A frown spreads across his face, grave robbers were an unpleasant sort to deal with and could lead to quite a variety of issues. Yet when Garra turned to him and asked if they could catch them, the warforged would grin and give a slow nod of agreement.
"I believe we could. We have shown skill so far and a proper investigation will show the worth of our recruitment. Let us speak to the Master of Sword for the mission parameters and see what we can do."
Custos The Sentinel |
"This way, I believe. Follow me. It is interesting the arrangement of offices within the academy. You can see the focus on how, in the event of an attack, the building can be reinforced tactically..."
The large metal man will lead the way down the halls towards the office of the Master of Swords, explaining the history of the Academy as well as some of the ways it has been designed for combat purposes. Upon arriving at the door, barring any interruptions, he knocks upon it and awaits a chance to enter.
