I can't see their expressions. Can you relay what the faces are relaying? Angry? mad? sad? Hungry? horny? Pensive? Murderous rage?
They look quite angry - and they look like they would be very happy to stab you!
To the men, "So just murderous rage then? So be it." Re-readies an action to cast grease on the mountain side when they are within 40 feet of the top.

As I said - for now - they seem to be holding action...

I'm gonna guess that this guy may want to stall us, so if those flyers would kindly go a-scouting, we can send garith and his riders along,

I'd like to have someone interrogating the prisoner, like Isani and/or Arasmes

we can see if khromm will go hunting for the leftover rider and the goods. I'm sure he'd like that since they have the cash, and the more we make, the more he makes.

So going to catch him, and having the riders at the city grab the last guy could work. He's Likely a caster, so sending a message to the city would be a good idea, if anyone knows a spell for that.

So we also need t ask the prisoner:
Where the other rider is going, back to the city, back north, hiding somewhere?

We can try intimidating him, if being sneaky with diplomacy doesn't work, but I'm not sneaky, and neither is Kae, so someone else would be better suited for that.

Kae knows about stuff, and can give information to the interrogator.

Your Perception Check was enough to discern that this is no man – but rather, an Ifrit. You were not sure, at first – as his heavy robes shroud his hair and horns – and his skin. But now – on closer inspection – you are certain.

"Peace be with you, Traveller. I too am new to this land so perhaps you may understand my dialect better than this Northerner's."
"This land you are crossing, it belongs to the General here and his Council, and as such they patrol its territory. You mentioned your purpose for travelling is to reach the cave to the north of us. Such a long distance you have come to gain access to an unusual location. What is your business with this cave? Of what importance does it hold for you? How did you know its location?"

Diplomacy with Question 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Sense Motive on answer to Q1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

This Ifrit watches you – you sense his eyes are cunning, and his penetrating – it seems he is gauging you for reaction – but; perhaps not – clearly he is measuring his response.

Salaam!” he responds, touching his palms to his breast and his face and lips – ”it is indeed a true pleasure to meet a person from my own lands in this somewhat uncouth and barbaric northern country. Well met, lady,” he says politely.

”You ask me on the caves? An odd statement on the distance – for how do you know long we traveled, if you do not know where we come from? Still – the cave itself was our destination for now – for it was rumored to be shelter in these hostile lands, and this rumor, of its location and hospitality - came from men who I do not know - but who have traveled here before. From their information - as I understand it – the cave is easy to defend, safe from most mundane monsters in the wild – and, of a certainty – is filled with, in its lower floors – a hospitable chamber for camping and casual meals and such. It is, in fact – a place where I and my companions would be free to rest during the night, and take ease from our travels - long, or otherwise,” he says with a magnanimous smile – and, you detect that, on this point – he is certainly not lying to you.

"You have many guardsmen for such a general ride to a secluded cave. Why the need for armed escorts if you carry no items of value on you or with you?"

Diplomacy with Question 2: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Sense Motive on answer to Q2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

”It is always good to travel with friends – even as you yourselves have."

"As for escorts? Why - there are many troubles in these lands. For example - it seems to me – my companions were traveling and – in all respects – waylaid by bandits – for so you would seem to me; even as I rode forward to aid my companions."

"If you have a legitimate claim to these lands and just cause to ambush us - well... I myself had not witnessed an evidence of this. Rather - to the contrary. For as I approached I heard one of my men call out quite clearly "It's a trap" - which I perceived was a warning of some sort of threat or ambush. Naturally – I and my men rode forward – expecting bandits – and with that in mind, I was not surprised to find that they were being assaulted - seemingly without cause, or without reason. At least - so it seems to me.”

”Yet, between people of noble or royal blood – such small matters can be overlooked. You have assaulted my men – killed them – and, their retaliation has resulted in the death of some of your men. Should we not, therefore, end such hostility now? Indeed - have not the poets said - "An eye for an eye shall make the whole world blind?" - Indeed! Come - let us call it quits to this misunderstanding."

"And - if this is the land of your peaceful people – and this is – moreover – the General of this land, who stands here with his blade to my throat even as I try to answer you... Well - know then that I have no wish for quarrel. You have killed some of my men, and some of yours died as well. Yet we are now finished with such errors. Come then – let us be on our way – and have no more talk of such violence and foolishness.”

He pauses a moment - considering the other part of your question.

”Ah – as for items of value – well, I think that a woman as wise as yourself would certainly realize that there can be nothing of value greater then life itself, eh? Well then – as that must be true – it can be said, truthfully – that our lives, such as they are - are valuable – and we do not wish to have them taken by thieves, bandits, cutpurses, footpads – or the like. Certainly that alone is worth protection, though – I fear – our best efforts were not enough; but, then again – you have already observed this,” he says with an apologetic shrug; - again – you are certain that, at this point – he is not lying to you.

"We were given information there were two robed riders travelling through this way. You are one, we would like to know the whereabouts of the other? You have magic and we have seen it. Is the other robed person magically hidden in this canyon?"

Diplomacy with Question 3: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Sense Motive on answer to Q3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

His eyes widen at this statement, but he says nothing for a moment, than purses his lips, as if considering something.

”Ah – your information about another robed companion? Well – in truth – there may be many such robed companions traveling the wilderness, and that may have nothing to do with any who ride with me – for robes are common clothing – yet, if you are implying that I traveled with such a fellow - garbed even as I am - then I must say I do not see one now – and if such a person was no longer with me – I cannot speak for that person’s whereabouts – for, during this conflict – and the resulting discussion after – I, in truth – do not know what would have happened to such companions. If they have magic – and the means to magically hide themselves – I do not know; nor do I know – if they had such power – if they had used it. Therefore – I cannot answer that question – for in truth, I am not sure of anything – about “robed men” – and “traveling companions” – other then those I can see with my own eyes. And my eyes may be cheated by sorcery and spells."

"Certainly – if such men have hidden – if there were any such men, hidden or otherwise – I would not be able to see them in any case, nor know if they had used magic, or not.”

Good roll – you know enough to realize that he probably is very aware of the other robed man – but is being deliberately vague – though he is not lying outright. Also – he is being cunning – for his words are fair – if his companion has used magic to hide – he certainly wouldn’t know that – and couldn’t know anyhow – even a Paladin or torture couldn’t get a better answer – for whatever may have happened to his companion – it happened after the two separated.

"As a fellow traveller I am curious, where do you call home? And if you are nomadic, then where were you born?"

Diplomacy with Question 4: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

”Ah – sahib – I call all places my home – for is not the world, and all the Planes of existence a fine and wonderful thing, each in their own way? And what is a home, if not a place to live in – a place with which we find to be fine and wonderful. As to where I was born? But my dear – can you doubt it? I hail from the very same place you do! Namely – the southlands!”Yeah – not as good as a roll. Again – he’s not lying, but that was really vague – you want to know more – but that’s pretty much all you can get at this time.

"Are you a religious person? If so, where does your faith lie, which god do you worship?"

Diplomacy with Question 5: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Sense Motive on answer to Q5: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

”Oh – I like to think of myself as a bit of deist – I observe all of the gods – and honor and respect them – as an apprentice may admire or respect a master. But worship them? No – I do not especially worship a god – no person of quality worships anything,” he says with a somewhat condescending tone.

”Indeed – sahib – I would say that only a slave offers worship to a thing – only slaves worship anything! A wise man worships nothing. In life – all things are prey – or predator – slaves or kings. Mark it well, sahib – if you find a being that offers worship to a thing – it is only because they are fools. A wise person know that a “god” is merely a powerful being – one that can be bested, used, co-opted, or defeated. Such a powerful being should be respected, and honored – for they are powerful – but why worship a thing that you can one day stand level with – or surpass?”

”No,” he says with a chuckle and shake of his head ”wise men do not worship things – even these gods – for they know that “gods” can be bested in time; with wisdom and cunning. Until then – I shall honor and respect them – or any powerful being. Indeed – I shall respect, and honor their power – but I shall do nothing more then that,” he says with a patient smile. – laced with invective language and veiled insult to religious folk – you are not certain if this because he is trying to bait you, as you are clearly a priestess – or because he truly believes what he says about gods. You are certain though – he is not lying about his religion. He is not a priest – and he does not worship any god specifically. Though you do wonder how sincere his respect for the gods are.

He gives you a very flat look.

”No – I have not, and am not,” he says dryly.

Bluff Check – 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 – it should be noted – the reason he took a penalty on this roll is because the lie is considered “Unlikely” – hence he suffers a -5 penalty, which was already factored in. That is only because you have a gut feeling that he is being tricky – but, as he has not lied so far – you have no reason to believe he is lying now.

Your roll tells you that he is not lying. Therefore – you believe him completely.

Kae – Shaezon is correct –he’s on top of a very tall pillar of rock, he cannot hear you speak – unless you shout at him.

Also – I am not sure what the rolls are for – I am guessing "Sense Motive" – it should be noted, though – that your efforts to put a blade to his throat have seriously effected Isani’s Diplomacy roll – which I have taken the liberty to factor in retroactively.

I am also not sure if you are rolling to “Aid” Isani – or if you are rolling independently (the only roll you have a +9 modifier I can see on your sheet is specifically Sense Motive – which is, I believe – what you are doing – though I am not sure).

If you are rolling independently – then none of the rolls matter – for he has not lied about anything. The last question may be a lie – but your roll to Aid - added with Isani - does not reveal anything false verses his Bluff.

It seems that the man who rolled a 1 has given you a +2 to any Charisma based checks to deal with these guys - they are pretty "non-intimidating" - it seems.

Khromm grunts, and grabs the nearest horse – swinging himself into the saddle, his face grim and cold.

He spits once at the Ifrit.

Kuss Ummak he barks out at him, drawing a blush from Isani. Then he kicks the horse into a gallop and moves south down the canyon that enters this small rocky valley.

Khromm is willing to use Survival to Track – if Garith and his men can toss up their aid checks – that would be good – as they can roll to aid in tracking. But remember – Khromm is moving at speed, from horse – which means that he will have penalties; so too will your men, when they roll.

Kae – if you can’t do this now – would you like another to do it for you during the weekend?

The ground is “hard” – and Khromm is moving at normal speed (this gives you a base of 20 + 5 for normal speed – however – there are penalties for the enemy – who, at the least – have “Large” animals – the aid of Garith and his men could be helpful – if they have it).

Survival to Track Roll -

1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 = 17

It should be noted – there may be some complications here. First – the combat took 4 rounds – then, after that – 2 rounds to secure the man, then unbind him to talk to him. Then – there were 4 “Sense Motive” checks – and the recurring answers. Then – there were 6 more questions with Sense Motive checks. The Ifrit answers took at least one round to answer these questions. Therefore - you believe that – at the outset of the combat until the time when they rode off– you have dealt with (at least) at least 26 rounds; but very likely, much more – as the man you questioned is taking quite a long time to answer these questions. Indeed – quite a long time before Khromm, Garith and his men could ride off. But – all told – you’re looking at least 26 rounds – possibly more… As an added note – a horses run speed is 250 feet a round… Just thought I’d toss that last point out for fun.

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

The Ifrit were rather cunning creatures and this one was certainly no exception.

In respectful appeal, "General Ka'etil, if you would be so kind as to remove the knife from his throat, I would be most grateful at this time. I would like a quiet word with you, Sir", and with that she steps a discreet distance away, guarded from the robed fellow's hearing and waits until the General is by her side.

In hushed tones, she discloses, "This robed male is an Ifrit and I do not believe he is lying but they are known for their strength and cunning and this one is as elusive as a grain of sand. His kind originate from the Efreet which are evil, powerful and cruel genies from the Elemental Plane of Fire. Yet, Ifrit can be good or evil and this one has proven neither side. What is your assessment at this time?"

Knowledge, Planes (more information re the Efreet): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14

After the General gives his answer, she will make her way back to the Ifrit male, "My apologies, Musaafir, for I had to confer with my companion. There will not be a knife held to your throat from this point on unless you give these men good cause for such fierce action. If you would be so kind, what is your name?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Efreet in general are typically loners - having few friends (if any) in the other planes - especially of the Djinn.

They are not known for their friendliness - but duplicity and desire to be manipulative - encouraging others to do work for them.

In response to your question -

"My name is... well, your pardon lady - but for now, I shall be known only as Hakim - more then that, I would not wish to share with you. You have assaulted my allies - killed my companions - threatened my life - and I am now your prisoner. Odd behavior - I should guess. Tell me, though - will you at least allow my companions to come to me? I fear they may fall from their position on the cliffs yonder?" he says politely.

You detect no lie at this point.

How about half a mile or until he finds something. He will not engage. SImply find and evade.

Elevation will play a part in this, too - also speed - how fast will you travel can make a difference.

Depending on when you left - and how fast you can travel - you may find something - or not (this depends on your height).

I also presume you will keep flying until you find something - in which case - it depends where you are when you find something - and how far you travel.

When I know more - you'll know more.

She looks up to the high cliff where the wizard and his young apprentice are currently stationed and Hakim's two men are holding against the cliff face.

Casting Ghost Sound, she calls out in elevated voice to the wizard (hoping the increased volume and echo will carry clearly to both), "Mister Shaezon, please do not kill those two climbers. If you could ensure they do not fall to their deaths, I would be most obliged. Hold them there with you for now. Thank you."

Turning back to the mysterious and cunning Hakim, "I have requested that your men be unharmed and rescued from their precarious vantage point. For now they shall remain with my two companions atop the cliff, Mister Hakim. You will be reunited in due course."

Circular pattern radiating out Plus flying down the canyon moving slower than 60', but not too slow. Probably varying between 10-40. Changing elevations as he looks.

Essentially it's a search pattern that varies.

The men will soon fall to their deaths if they do not have either a rope to lift them, or the chance to descend. Staying is not something that they can do - but, if they must - then they must...

Well - as Perception penalties are added for every ten feet - that makes things somewhat difficult to gauge/predict right now.

Still and all - you have decided to travel - needless to say - you are able to see Khromm and the others riding down various canyons after some sort of sign. Khromm is moving at least normal move speed - as he is on his horse - that is at least 50 feet a round - so he will probably outdistance you.

Based on his movement and attitude - you think he may have discovered some sort of trail... In any case - he leads the others in a rather direct route.

Mister – as you are flying some fifty feet above the heights of the cliffs you observe that out of the southern mouth of the canyon what looks like a minor cattle drive – only with horses. Roughly 8 or 9 horses come charging out of the wide opening to the southern entrance to the beginnings of the gradually raising chasms and canyons.

Horses and riders charge in a wide fanning arc in every direction – and you suddenly sense that the rest of the men and baggage are rushing to escape as quickly as possible. The riders are driving the horses in a wide fan in every direction – you do not know what they are planning – or where they are going – it seems clear that they are using their pack horses to confuse the trail so they can each rush into safety in the wild. Where they will go from there – you don’t know – but they are fleeing quickly.

You are able to return and report what you have seen in about ten minutes of flying…

The two men glance at each other - then you - their looks convey much - you believe they cannot understand you. However - as you have lowered a rope to them - and are not currently in the process of fighting them, their hand relax from their scimitars - and they merely say nothing and stare at you and Galen.

Currently - they are about 20 feet from you - roughly. One of them turns to another and speaks - but you do not understand the language. The second nods, and the two turn back and stare at you.

At this time you have the chance to get a good view of them, sans combat - and can see they are garbed in what looks like long flowing robes, over which is a well made (to your eye) breastplate, some basic greaves on their arms, a scimitar, a curved dagger in their belt - and a few odds and ends, such as pouches. Both of them have waterskins on them - which you find a bit odd - as it would be more sensible to leave the waterskins on the horses then taking them into battle.

They are clearly human - but they look southern to you - possibly from Osirion - or Khatapesh - you are not sure; but (to your Intelligent ear - coupled with ranks in Linguistics) their words remind you of the accents of Arasmes, Isani and Khromm; even though you cannot understand what they are saying.

Of course - for now they say nothing - merely stare at you, their eyes dark and intent; reading you and Galen.

You have a Sense that this mister "Hakim" in front of you was able to discern what you did - via his knowledge in magic. You saw his eyes reading yours, when you cast the spell - and you guessed he is able to infer what spell you cast.

You have not noticed any spell books on him, though - but this is not surprising. Such a valuable item would most likely be in his personal effects.

He does hear your words, though - and you can see he gives you a polite smile at your generosity - though there is still a somewhat condescending light in his eyes. Indeed, his expression looks like it is saying to you - Ah; mercy for your enemies? How droll... -

Of course - that is merely something you inferred. He certainly did not say it - and as you are certain he was honest about his statement about not being part of the Black Kota gang - or having anything to do with it - you have no doubt that, other then being a bit obnoxious, he is no true threat now that you have him bound...

Fyi - make sure to check the other board, too - Ariarh may be very interested in offering some help - and quickly!

May have a bit of miscommunication - the men actually climbed the rope and are standing on the top of the narrow plateau. However - they are standing 20 feet from Shaezon and Galen - but they are on top of the plateau. But - in answer to your question...

"Apologies miss..." "Hakim" responds politely "They merely speak Osirion - as I believe you do," he adds with a nod of his head.

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

Thanks for the clarification as I hadn't read it that way.

She gracefully nods her head in response to Hakim's reply.

Using Ghost Sound, she speaks in Osiriani to the two riders in Hakim's entourage, "Hello, we are granting you mercy. Do not try to attempt to attack or flee. Surrender to my companions near you. Peace!" She then quickly translates the words in Common so the wizard and his young apprentice can understand.

Returning her gaze to Hakim, "Mister Hakim, how long were you planning on travelling or visiting these lands with your attendants?", gesturing to the men atop the plateau with Shaezon and Galen. "Do you intend on carrying on business or deal in trade of goods and/or services while on these lands?"

Combined Responses –

1. I spoke to Ras/Laz tonight – I was hoping he was going to be posting a few times tonight. However – it looks like that may be delayed. Bad luck – but, if I may recommend – I’d take these folk as prisoners, or kill them. Then – ride after the other robed man, his bodyguards, and the 6 baggage horses. I suspect that you may find what you’re looking for there.

2. The men are able to hear you, and you suspect that they understand you – but, very clearly – they are not reacting or listening to your commands. Your Diplomacy roll suggests that these men will not listen to anyone’s orders but their leaders. If he says to desist – they will do so. But, they certainly will not desist if another person says to desist and their leader is in bondage. If you want them to halt – you’ll need to go through “Hakim”.

3. Answers to your questions

Re- duration –

”In truth, lady, I do not know. Certainly I was intending on doing business; business is a very important thing to a merchant – such as myself. I suppose that – when business is concluded – I and my colleagues shall move on to a more profitable climate.”

Re – profession.

”Oh – apologies lady – I am but a simple merchant. My business is to sell trade goods. As to what goods? Why – that is not truly my concern. I am merely a middle man. Do not the poets say - A successful merchant can sell sand to an elf – if he knows the right words and has the right persuasion – Indeed! Give me an item to sell, and my task is to study the prospective buyer – to observe them – and then, at the right moment – to say the right words that will persuade them to buy.”

He flashes you a winning smile which is almost certainly lost on Isani; though it is rather wide and bright.

In neither case is he lying – he is merely being – circumspect – but it is likely that you already deduced this…It is almost as if he has learned the art of talking at length but saying nothing of value. Clearly – he is very wise. For do not the poets say - A wise man can talk on Skype for hours and hours – saying the same thing over and over – and never actually getting to the actual point? - Indeed!

The Ifrit is certainly evasive but his charm is wasted on the likes of me. His last answers certainly make me suspicious -- he is indeed lying through meaningless verbosity!

"Well then, Mister Hakim, it seems we are at an end in this conversation. Your men above do not seem to be very cooperative, which is rather unfortunate. There is nothing to be done for it, unless of course you would like to advise them to surrender? But please, do make it clear and transparent that a peaceful surrender is the appropriate course and prudently required. Thank you. I will confer with my companions now."

She draws General Ka'etil and any others to the side and in hushed voice begins, "He is lying; well to be exact he was lying in his last answer. The Ifrit is cunning and dangerous. We have two options before us: take him back to your Saravale for further questioning or kill him and his companions in this canyon and then search out the other robed creature and the remaining riders. In good conscience I cannot take his life or the other two on the plateau. Yet if you and the others believe this course of action is the best for your lands, then I will abide by the decision and action you take. I defer to you in this matter as the party leader and a councilman of the new land." She gives a small bow to Ka'etil and awaits his word or the word of any present.

Kae nods, and turning his language whispering Dracinic to Isani, he says "Well, time is wasted on these men here. They are as evasive as the Ustalavians, so we bind them to horses, and search for the others, first the robed man, and then the pack animals."

Then to the Ifrit, he says, "Order your men to throw their weapons aside and be taken prisoner, if you want them to live, and come with us." After the Ifrit gives the order, Kae tells him "You do not speak plainly, so you shall not speak" gagging the man once again, binding the man's hands to the horn of his saddle.

We take the prisoners, and ride after the fleeing riders tacking course with the report from mister, having Laz track them as well.

Technically - you do not know Hakim is lying. In point of fact - he only lied once - but, during that one lie - you Sense Motive verses his Bluff failed. So you would not know if he is lying - though he is certainly being circumspect.

Just to note, as soon as the guy responded so uselessly to kae, he sent garith out to search and yelled at mister. He would not have waited for Isani to quuestion him further allowing him to stall us. Khromm did whatever he wanted

And kae did NOT have a blade to the prisoner's throat, just out and ready to attack if he tried to cast anything. I did specifically say that much.

There iss the order to execute the prisoners if the try to fight

Fair enough about the blade at the throat - however;

As for when Kae sent Garith out - that happened when it happened. If Garith went out unilaterally to Khromm - then I would have needed to know when. But, I did not know - so Garith went with Khromm.

It should also be noted that Khromm is fairly adept at tracking; hence his use of Survival to track the enemies. If Garith does not have survival - he and his men (assuming they went alone) would need to -

1. Try to track the enemy - possibly getting lost
2. Need to make Survival rolls to demonstrate the success of their survival rolls.

Remember - survival impairs your move speed - but you can avoid that impairment at significant penalties.

So - the real questions are -

1. If you would like to do a bit of ret-con; then when will Garith and his two men leave? (the other two men you had died in the fireball)?
2. Do they have Survival - if so - will they use it - if so - what is the roll? (Please note Mister left when he left - and that was after the questioning. He cannot help you with the roll until after he catches up).

On the other hand - you can leave with Khromm and take his successful Survival roll - following the enemies only minutes behind. They have a big head start - but, you can catch them.

I should add - if you had anyone who could fly with ranged weapons that would be very helpful here (ahem!)...

The Ifrit's eyes widen in surprise.

"Truly - the lands of the barbaric north! You have assaulted my person - murder my servants - steal my property - and now treat me as a common bandit? Sir - you are the thief, and the murderer - and the villain - not I! And - as for this farce? You do not seriously think I shall let you attempt to bind me without protest, or pilfer my goods without attempting to cling to my freedom? And - as for ordering me to order anyone - you are gravely mistaken if you think that I shall bend my knee to your unjust commands!"

"Instead - my body is beaten and weary. No - you shall unshackle me now - for I have no desire to be bound further - I am already your prisoner - but I shall not be your slave! Therefore - cut my bonds - instantly!"

The man uses Intimidate on Kae with his words - he is attempting to get Kae to untie his bonds and give him some peace.

This is considered getting Kae to give him Limited Assistance. His target number is Kae's leve + 10 + Kae's Wisdom Modifier - if he succeeds - Kae will grudgingly unbind his hands, and give him "some peace".

Should he fail - Kae - you've been called out - it will be your move, then...

Intimidate roll -
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

Hmm... that's less then promising... Well - unless I am mistaken - only Isani and Arasmes are around - though of course - they are also able to hear both the threat, and the persuasiveness of his voice. However - unless Ghost Sound is being used - Shaezon and Galen are not privy to this speech - and its effects.

Rules clarification - it does not say your Intimidate is limited to only one person - but it does not say you can do it on more then one person. Realistically - if you can do Diplomacy to "rally the troops" - I would think you could use Intimidate to "frighten the enemy" - at a penalty for larger numbers. I may be wrong, though. But even if I add +5 to the DC for each target - then Arasmes, Isani and Kae should all be Intimidated - but I don't know if you can do this on multiple targets. Can I get a rules clarification?

Meanwhile - if you do fail and become intimidated - you are now considered "his friend" for 1d6x10 minutes - or 1d6 ⇒ 6 x 10 minutes.

I believe that the intimidate roll is VS a DC, so multiple parties are not a factor except that they would all have chance to fail/succeed. Any bonus (to intimidator or intimidatee) would be a be a situational bonus assigned by the dm.

I believe that between answering our questions, "Hakim" is gagged by Kae (upon Isani's insistence), so how is he intimidating with words? And affecting Kae, Isani and Arasmes, all of whom have stepped away from Hakim and are conversing in private?

Because the last thing Kae said to him was "Order you men to throw down your weapons!"

Kae then infers that the Ifrit does not listen - at which point Kae suggests the man is as useless as Ustalavians - and then decides to gag him.

Logic would suggest that before Kae gagged him - the Ifrit was still ungagged - and, at the time that the Ifrit was "ordered" to tell his men to throw down their weapons - rather then yelling to his men "Throw down your weapons - now. I order you to obey!" - or instead merely stand there and smugly look on at you guys and saying nothing - instead - he took the alternative plan and did neither.

It was at this time his new plan was to answer Kae directly, but in a bold and Intimidating way. Hence his speech - hence the intimidation.

Hence the fact that Kae, as well as (seemingly) you and Arasmes - are all cowed under his very Charismatic appeal; unless he does something to overtly upset you.

For now - asking that you remove his binding and gag so he can be somewhat more comfortable as your "Prisoner" is not too unreasonable - nor do you think that is beyond the realm of possibilities.

So - you agree - but only because you are nervous by his unusually powerful Charm and Charisma - and his speech was pretty Intimidating to boot.

FYI - Kae - I agree with you - Intimidating is pretty pimp, compared to Diplomacy. But, if it is any consolation - Intimidation is considered an "Evil" action. Certainly the gods will not be pleased by his actions to use that skill.

The worst part is - as long as he behaves himself and does nothing too over the top - you will have no reason to disagree with him - at least for 6 x 10 minutes - or 1 hour.

Standard action Glen burns the rope with whatever power he chooses. We jump off the cliff (move action) and leave our enemies otherwise stranded. I then cast feather fall on us during the descent (free action).

Indeed they do! Both of them have Composite Longbows - which they probably planned on using when they attempted to climb up here. You are free to ret-con your decision to jump; though. The next thing would have happened probably before you jumped - in which case you would have seen it, and most likely acted. Though - you may also have decided to jump anyhow. It's totally up to you.

See next post for more news, though...

The Ifrit's next move...

Seeing that you are cowed in front of him - the Ifrit then takes a moment to declaim:

"So - your companions have fled after my master! Then my little ruse worked - for by now he is long gone. Thank you for releasing my bindings, my little abeed. Now - let us bring an end to it!" he adds.

Turning to his men briefly, he calls out in a loud voice - "Hojoom!" to his men on the cliffs above.

His voice carries well - and with that - he casts the spell "Fireball" so that the radius shall explode behind you - and move forward to consume you - but not him; for a total of 7d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 1, 5, 4, 4) = 22 damage.

However - this can be reduced to half damage with a successful Reflex Save.

But wait - there's more!

Though you are Intimidated and do not have the need to suddenly interrupt his actions - Kae - you suddenly feel a hot wrath as he's casting! Something seems to be prompting you beyond his power of persuasion and his ability to do something to daunt you...

Kae - you are free to toss up an Initiative Check - if you succeed, you can attempt to interrupt the spell - causing him to both lose the spell - and suffer whatever damage you can use!

His initiative Check -
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

As you prepare your rebuttal you hear echoing briefly in your head -

- Sorry, I'm late to the party - just a girl's perogotive, right? I'd have been here sooner, but the boss must be taking a nap, and getting out of his head is such a chore... Meanwhile, hot stuff - I hate people who don't stop talking all day! So stop with the yakkity-yak-yak and let's blow this popsicle stand! Don't worry - he's evil - so killing him is totally the right thing to do! Trust me Captain Tight Pants - Now; it's clobbering time! -

Kae - you're not entirely sure where this mysterious and never before heard voice came from - but, after hearing it - you are now free to take your action and do something! I recommend roll high ;)
