Introduction

This is the Kingmaker Campaign, yet it is filled with many deviations from the boxed set. The "Campaign Information" page is meant as a quick resource to help sum up the thousands of posts quickly.

Cool - is Isani helping, too?

Posted -- I was working on it when you were making your post. ;)

Night, Ras!

Excellent - Cali is out - you'll need her - you haven't gotten to the tough stuff :)

Meanwhile - as Ariarh moves slowly up the beach, and Isani moves down - Isani sees in the distance a small stone pier - the pier is about 100 yards from the boat - you can get there rather quickly - you see a small stone building near the pier - but; you see no lights by it.

Isani - what do you do with this information?

Good night, Ras and Shae - where is Kae when we need him? Blast - well; you're here now....

Okay - this has nothing to do with anything but deliciousness - but; click this link and tell me you wouldn't want to go eat here, too? I gotta say - G!~ D#$N that looks awesome, so - had to share it... Deliciousness

FYI - that is no joke - I really want to eat at that place now... so; yeah - totally... Just had to say that...

Isani - what do you do with this information?

She wrestles with the notion of making her way cautiously down to the stone building near the pier to investigate, yet sanity prevails and she will not undertake it alone -- especially having heard a possible witch resides on the island. It is better if they are a united front -- and not going off on their own to face whatever manner of evil.

She runs back up the black-sand beach to find Ariarh and the others and to tell them of her discovery and together they may return to take a closer look at the small stone building by the pier.

A little out of breath from the run and the cold, she speaks once she catches up with the leader, "Lady Ariarh, as I moved down shore, I happened to see a small stone pier about 100 yards from our sailboat and near the pier was another small stone building but there are no lights by it. Perhaps, we should all go down the beach to investigate further, my leader?"

Quick Question - wait; did Ariarh morph back into Human - because if so - like - I dunno - she could probably have moved down the waterline - "in disguise" as a wave... or something - just let me know if she is now in human form - or elemental form... ?

Just curious...

Meanwhile - Brett is now getting out his gear - luckily - as there is no specific rules for gunpowder - so, I'll just assume he can now help the party with his pistols for now.

What is the rest of the party doing?

Or at least - what is Isani doing?

Okay, you moved the storyline along quickly and I got confused what happened with Ariarh and her wildshape form -- I had presumed you had morphed her back. (Sorry I misunderstood.) But if it is up to me, then she'll keep her water elemental form a while longer and will be moving down the waterline incognito, searching things out.

I can retcon Isani's actions to suit -- in a little bit. I have a mighty headache I'm trying to shake and took myself away from the computer. Plus, since I am technically the only PC player on the board right now, I didn't think you wanted to proceed so quickly without the others around ... or at least until Kae showed up on the boards.

Too true - and also - I've slept 6 hours since April 20th - I am a bit worn out... :(

We can hang of for the rest of the party, then -

the only thing keeping me going now is dreaming of all the food on that menu I posted... Any thoughts on it?

To all -

You're all on the beach - you've burned off many spells - but luckily you're doing well HP-wise - which is good news...

That said - at least you're not in the lake...

Quick question - you're free to make some conclusion about the sand on the beach; people who have been to Hawaii are not part of this discussion - unless their character rolls high enough on Knowledge: nature...

Go to bed on time then, Mister GM. ;)

That menu is a heart attack waiting to happen -- too much lard! But Dior may like all that bacon! ha!

You totally should have seen the live show - the bacon floating in the maple syrup - the bits of bacon and the syrup - and the congealed bacon fat with the syrup - then they put it on the pancakes... Not to mention the brownie with the bacon on - oh yeah!

Again - you're on the beach - you know your current use of spells/summoned stuff - and, meanwhile - I am very tired, so - yeah. We'll start fresh tomorrow - you're standing on the beach; soaked, the rain is coming hard - and, meanwhile - the fog by the water is thick...

What is your plan, gang?

Isani would have seen the strange stone building by the pier and would have returned back up the beach to find either Arasmes or General Ka'etil to inform them of her discovery and then will proceed.

"As the Lady Ariarh is otherwise occupied in her elemental form and is scouring the coastline, I will advise you on what I have discovered. Approximately 100 yards down shore from the sailboat, there is a small stone pier and beside that pier lies a modest stone building. I do not know if the building is occupied for there is no light within and I did not think it wise to investigate on my own. Would you accompany me down to the pier?"

She casts Light on a piece of driftwood she found on the sand and hands it to General Kae'til so he may better see in the dark. She uses her darkvision to aid her in the darkening/darkened landscape, yet the rain and wind seek to make it difficult.

She wonders about the black coloured sand beneath her feet and takes a moment to inspect it,

"Mister will accompany you. He is quite stealthy and he can allow you to communicate silently through telepathy."

Mister hops off Shae's shoulders and flies over to gently land on Isani's shoulder. His long neck swings around to look her in the eye.

In her mind she hears a very childlike voice say ::Hi.::

You should thank the Lady Ariarh", giving a humble nod of her head, feeling her teeth ready to chatter from the cold.

She had never had such a communication before, in her mind's eye, and marvelled briefly at the clarity and apparent intimacy.

In her mind she responds to the little dragon creature, ::Hello, Mister. We would appreciate your form of communication for we do not know if the stone building is occupied. Will you be comfortable on my shoulder in this rain?::

After Mister responds, she begins cautiously walking back down the dark beach toward the small pier, looking about her as raindrops fall into her eyes, glad she is no longer alone in the endeavour.

In her water elemental guise, Ariarh travelled up shore but could see nothing of note. She turns around and begins swimming back along the shore toward her companions, heading for the area the Priestess was last seen searching, hoping to spy something from her secret watery vantage point that mayhap the others had missed.

::Yea, I'll be fine here. Your shoulders are a little slimmer than Shaezon's, but not by much. He's an elf after all. They can be kind of bony, but don't tell him I said so. I can also scout if you need. I'm very stealthy.::

Guaging Isani's apparent confort with the situation Mister shifts slightly so he is drapped across both shoulders and the back of her neck. All in all it's fairly confortable for both parties. (Imagine having an elongated cat lay there) Isani can feel Mister's body heat and rythmic chest movement that accompanies breathing. It's rather pleasant actually.

Telepathically to Isani and Arasmes
::I'll be monitoring both of your surface thoughts so if you want to talk to each other telepathically just think it at me and I'll relay the message.::

In other words you can telepathically talk to each other without waiting for Mister to do it in character, but technically he's relaying all the messages.

F Elf Spellbinder Conjuration (teleport) Wiz 1

Soaking wet and obviously not happy about it Shaezon makes a word and motion in his direction. The water soaked into his hair and clothing seems to momentarily come to life and roll off of him. He then makes a similar motion and any rain that hits him immediately beads up and rolls off in a similar fashion.

Prestidigate to dry and then an ongoing prestidigitate effect to keep him dry. If not renewed the latter effect will last one hour.

To whomever is closest,
"I can dry you off, but I cant keep the rain off like I have done for myself unless we stay in physical contact."

With a wave and word Shae will dry off anyone that asks for it.

If I am not around tonight feel free to NPC Mister. He'll relay telepathic messages, search around with the others, scouting ahead if asked, and looking for tracks. His modifiers are below. He's not much of a fighter, so if something goes down he'll stay out of the way and/or go warn the others.

Perception +6
Stealth +19
Survival +6

Isani, I forgot to mention. Mister has a long tail with a barb at the end. It looks very similar to a scorpion barb in a lot of ways, but sleeker and more draconic.

Edit: I just realized Mister has Blindsense 60'. That's cool.

Blindsense (Ex) Using nonvisual senses, such as acute smell or hearing, a creature with blindsense notices things it cannot see. The creature usually does not need to make Perception checks to pinpoint the location of a creature within range of its blindsense ability, provided that it has line of effect to that creature. Any opponent the creature cannot see still has total concealment against the creature with blindsense, and the creature still has the normal miss chance when attacking foes that have concealment. Visibility still affects the movement of a creature with blindsense. A creature with blindsense is still denied its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class against attacks from creatures it cannot see.

Format : blindsense 60 ft.; Location : Senses.

Isani - you have not rolled the highest - something about it seems familiar to you.

You recall vague tales in the southlands of folk who could not find steel in the deep deserts – they used bone or stone weapons. They favored weapons that were hard – and for this – the stone of preference was always obsidian. The sand reminds you a lot of obsidian for some reason – more then that – you are free to make your own conclusions.

The stone structure at the end of the pier –

This is, for the most part – a ruined building. You would guess that long ago it may have been a guard post, perhaps a keep for a series of docks. Now it is only a ruin – a stone structure, small, squat and broken.

Even so – there is crude evidence that the building has been since modified. The open ceiling has been remade – there is now a roof on it – but it is clearly recent. There is a crude door on the door, it is shut, and there is no light inside the building.

Meanwhile – from the pier to the building itself you notice that a stone path – perhaps 20 feet in width – stone bricks – most of them still there, though many are cracked and broken.

The path stabs northwest into the heart of the island – through the trees, and up the incline of the hill which leads to where the tower is.

Question: What do you do when you see the bolted door? The building stretches 60 feet down the length of the beach/pier – and 40 feet back – pushing into the pine trees. The building is only one storey – and the fog is still thick.

FYI – I may not have been clear – but it is still pouring rain – and the wind is high from the beach. Not sure how dry anyone will be – no matter what spell they cast.

Yeah - despite Galen's massive support for spells in general - Prestidigitation can dry something - providing it is in a 1x1x1 foot cube. So if you want to clean your whole outfit - that will take a few rounds (at least 6 - as you are over 5 feet) - if you want to keep yourself dry - every cube you move the spell over - it will make the clothes dry for 1 round - you are at least 5 feet tall - which means as you slide the cube of Dry down your body - it takes at least 30 seconds for each foot to be dried/cleaned/whatever - which means by the time it got to your feet, your head and torso probably would be soaking wet again... Just something to remember via the spell.

Fair enough. I haven't read the spell in awhile. That being the case Shae would know the futility of that well before he tried it. Please disregard.

No worries - rainstorms just are a pain... not to mention all the lovely fog...

Okay gang -

Is everyone planning on exploring the pier - or the forest - or the stone road?

Just curious...

Arasmes bends down and runs his hand through the black sand and looks around at the fog, a thought clicking in his head. I have seen sand like this before around the Brazen Peaks in Katapesh. I believe this island may be the home of some sort of volcanic activity, perhaps even a live volcano. That would make sense for the perpetual fog if the lava was flowing into the lake.

"Sadiqi, have you ever seen obsidian? The black of this sand reminds me of it and fits into your theory of volcanic activity."

You cannot tell if the door is bolted in any way but the fact that if you try the latch - the door won't open.

It may be trapped - you don't know. If you bring Brett down, he'll give it a once over.

To hurry the process - I'll assume you do -

Brett searches for a trap -

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

"Don't think it's trapped lass - and I don't see no light from past the door..."

He attempts to "pick the lock" (such as it is) -

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

He slides a thin, flat piece of metal inside the door's thin opening - and then, lifts it slowly up, lifting the bolt up - and you sense the door is now unlocked...

He jerks his pistols and levels them at the doorway.

"You want to do this - or me?" he asks - and you have a "hunch" he's suggesting you open the door.

He's waiting, even as he aims the pistols, readying for your decision...

Arasmes will go as well.

Really exhausted. Teaching this week has been rough. Whomever would like to please NPC me as needed but I need to go to bed.

The door swings in. You see a wide room, with a series of crude bunks, chests, and some cupboards. There are 12 bunks with chests and other gear to go along with them...

On the far side of the room is rows of tackle, rope, and other gear for fishing boats. Odd - you saw no such boats moored outside...

Even so - the room is - other then the general gear - empty.

"Hmmm... odd..." Brett says, moving in, looking around.

Without waiting, he pushes open a chest and peers inside.

You see various bulk robes, warm clothes, blankets and so on.

The cupboards have other things - some iron shackles - slave catching tools - and other things.

There are two crude "Franklin Stove" type fixtures on the fall walls; and the back wall has a low fire place with a small, meager grate.

You find barrels of beer, salt pork - hardtack, and dried fish and apples.

A few clay jars of honey, sacks of salt - eating utensils, cooking utensils - and so on.

Further - you find gear like nets, fishing rods, and other fishing gear - most of it seems dusty, though the food seems fresh enough.

Brett examines both the stoves and the fireplace...

"Huh - nothing here - no coals, but there is ash in the fireplace - but it's cold, and damp... someone had a fire here in the last day, I reckon..."

He looks up at you all -

"Well - what's next?" he adds, holding pistols loosely.

Twelve bunks would suggest at least twelve men stayed in this cottage and it has been occupied in the last day or so, she mused to herself.

"The hour grows late and the darkness fills every space outside. The rain is heavy and any tracks would be washed away by now... and any hidden pathways hard to maneuver and slippery. I would suggest we camp inside this cottage tonight -- I do not believe another boat will come by, especially not in this storm, so we may be safe for now. We cannot remain out in the cold, wet night ... We should gather everyone in this stone house and take watch lest its owners come back unexpectedly. I would suggest we do not start a fire for the smoke from the chimney may alert the creatures who generally sleep in these quarters ... or the witch. We can use muted magical light if necessary, there is food in the cupboards ... and there are blankets and warm clothes inside that chest Mister Brett has opened. What is your opinion?" addressing the others in the room.

She looks about the room for anything else that Mister Brett may not have discovered/uncovered,

"And someone should find Lady Ariarh outside in the water and ask her to transform back into her normal form and take shelter in this cottage."

"Nay lass - that be a bad plan about staying here..." Brett says sternly.

"The lads all left this room - they did it today, and left their gear. Which means they're either out and about - or they'll be back..."

"They didn't take no damn boats - if they did - they'd be smashed by the storm and the croc! The croc was damn hungry - which mean he didn't eat lately - which means he didn't eat no sailors lately... But if they ain't here - then where are they? Nay - we stick around here, they'll come back..." he adds.

"Now - this island be less then two miles long, and by all accounts, barely a mile and half miles wide - give or take..."

"That means they got hardly any place to go - and I reckon they'll be back... Now, there be a path out there - I say we move up stealthy-like, while the cover of the rain and fog lasts... We wait here; hell - they may be coming back and get the drop on us!"

Brett shoulders his gear, glancing at the window, as if any moment he expects that an enemy may be coming down the trail to corner you in the stone room.

FYI - yeah - it's roughly 6:00 PM now... What's your move?

Isani - you don't find anything here - just mundane gear. This looks like a guard room for the pier - but where the guards are - you don't know...

Male

Dior slowly padded his way into the now partly lit cottage, shaking the rain from his sodden fur and feathers, opening and closing his beak, taking in the scent of the room. He tilts his head as in query to the whereabouts of his mistress and lets out a short screech.

"Then Mister Brett we should alert the Lady Ariarh to your plan and have her travel the path with us ... Is this acceptable to you? Or is her presence imperative out in the water?", watching the Lady druid's griffon from the corner of her eye, hearing Dior's alarm at his mistress' absence.

Isani will follow Brett stealthily up the path but would like to inform Ariarh first, if the other Councilmen agree.

"Best thing for it - send mister Mister - see; he can communicate with his brain - that can make it easier to find Ry Lass - and, as it were - none'll see him flying around - and none of us are likely to find Ry if she looks like water - and unless we tip her off we're around - she probably won't see us - in which case we tip off the whole coast by shouting!" Brett begins - even as it is clear that his suggestion is fairly redundant.

"Also - if we stab up the path - we better first do a quick inventory on our goods, gear and powers - see who casted what, when and where... and how many times they can still do it!"

"An we best do it quick! I got mates that are likely caught on this bloody island - not to mention the last ward of the people that be living here! She may not be much to you - that miss Anuk-su - but Ariarh looks up to her like a big sister! And our mates - them silver kobolds? We got to find them fast - and the sooner the better, you know? We can't wait - they may be in trouble - we didn't charge down here for nothing, did we?" he adds, looking at Isani - hoping that things would move forward faster...

He was worried about his friends - and with all the fairly obvious clues laying around - things were all coming together fairly easily... There was therefore no time to waste!

In her mind, she asks Mister to search for the Lady Ariarh in the water in her elemental form. ::She may resemble a wave, Mister, but I am sure you will pick up on her mental chatter. Let her know we have found a path, 100 yards down from where the sailboat is moored, by the stone cottage. She may even be closer than we know. Please find her quickly, little telepath, and bring her to us. I thank you. Now please go, it is imperative. May the gods keep you safe.::

Once Mister raises himself from her shoulders and flies to seek the Lady druid, Isani turns back to Brett,

"It is true that I have not formed a bond with your young dragon ward, Mister Brett, but I have learned enough to know what a precious commodity she is to the Lady Ariarh and your people. I would not see any of your beloved allies endangered or killed, councilman. I am at your service."

"Lass - if ye don't mind - "Commodity" sound too close to "Property" to my ears - but maybe that be southern lingo in you yet? Even so..." he adds, thinking a bit "well - just don't say hash like that around Ry lass - she don't take kindly to that sort of words... though I reckon you don't mean it that way..."

Brett grins a bit, and slaps Isani on her arm, and nods his head.

"Nay worries - anyhow - we need to get ready - I say we take the action to any that be there... You see them things in them chests? That be slave-catching gear - I know it - seen enough of them bloody folk in Cheliax - killed some - but never can kill enough slaving types, heh?" he adds with a laugh that sounds somewhat strained.

"Aye - even so - I reckon that whatever be going on 'round here be tied to this gear, right? I mean, the thing is - think of it like this..." he adds, even as Mister heads out to find and retrieve Ariarh... discovers her - and brings her back quickly to the group.

"See - I mean, here's the thing - we get our lass and her boys rushing out to fetch her folk on this place, so we think... and what do that make her folk? Prisoners, I reckon..."

"Now - what happens if prisoners escape - you catch, 'em, right? And - they be 'sposed to be looking for slaves, but also - folk for experimenting on - like that basterd Lencher did, eh?"

Brett grins a bit sheepishly - realizing he is kind of stating the obvious - but he plow's on...

"So here's what I be thinking - the folk on the island catch weird folk and mesh them into some kind of soldiers - they got a handle on the last bit of silver kobolds, eh? Well - what if some of the folk here feel bad about it - or like it be going too far? Next thing you see - maybe the folk here get the last straw, as it were - like - maybe - I dunno - they see something that make 'em say "No bloody more"! Right? Well, what would they see to say that? Not more kobolds, not if they got 'em... but; what if they saw the young lass?"

"Ye don't mess with dragonkind - that ain't be good and true! Ye do that - some may say "Hey - kobolds just be little beasties - but a dragon lass that looks like a little girl? That be stepping over the line!"

"Maybe some folk get upset about it... maybe they do a little knife work they be that mad - like Hey - cutting on kobolds be one thing, but the dragon lass be too bloody much" and - maybe they fight - and maybe the boss say "Them that fight for the lass - they be like... traitors?" - eh? I mean - like, you know... that'd make a lot of sense, if we saw any traitors laying about, it could tie it all together, right?" he adds with a shrug and nod.

"If that be the case - we likely be on the right track, I reckon - and we can't wait any longer... I say - soon as Ariarh gets back - we move!" Brett adds emphatically.

I know that Clari, Kae, Shae and Arasmes have used spells and spell-like abilities - please toss up what you've used - and get ready to move... Yay team good!
