Introduction

This is the Kingmaker Campaign, yet it is filled with many deviations from the boxed set. The "Campaign Information" page is meant as a quick resource to help sum up the thousands of posts quickly.

Ariarh's and Isani's suggestions:

1. The horses can remain "stabled" in the town hall where they currently are. But we must provide them with enough grass/food and fresh water to feed them whilst we are gone -- we don't want them weakening or dying from thirst or hunger.

2. Ariarh and Isani are coming on the boat/s, though neither Ariarh or Isani have experience with sailing. They can both swim, however. Dior will probably fly and if he requires rest will come in and do so on the boat.

3. Ariarh and Isani opt for the sailboat and trying to figure how to manage it in bad weather etc if it eventuates.

4. I say we find a hiding place or hole for the gear we found (and no one wants to use) and store/bury it until we return to reclaim it -- whether we dig a hole and mark it so only we recognise the marker or find some hidey-hole in one of the abandoned buildings.

Ariarh will listen to everyone's suggestions/ideas.

Just a thought -

If you have the following 8 medium sized folks on board -

1. Arasmes
2. Ariarh
3. Brett
4. Clari
5. Dior
6. Isani
7. Kae
8. Shaezon

Then you'll have no room for Galen.

Given the intense amount of potential danger on this island - Galen may easily be killed - however, if he remains behind on the mainland - he is less likely to deal with true danger - this is hard stuff and he's only level 3.

You're having a tight fit on the boat anyway - and having him stay back with the horses may be a safer bet. You doubt he'll have much trouble on the mainland - the island is the real crux of the matter.

It's true that there may be a wandering tracker or tradesmen - but it is doubtful they'll be coming in the next 2 days - given the weather and lack of fishing - and condition of the buildings.

Leaving him would be safe - but, it's up to Shae in this matter - as Galen is his apprentice...

But - if not Galen - who do you leave behind? Brett will volunteer in a pinch - he's not too keen on taking black powder weapons in the rain - and you guys may want to take Galen instead, anyway. Again - it's up to Shae.

Otherwise - what do you do?

The sailing boat's rules to prep are already in place. Anyone using a raw profession check to get things together? In this case - it's a simple Wisdom modifier - unless you have Profession: Sailor.

Remember - to get the sail boat together you'll need to get a 25 Profession in an 30 minutes. For every +1 you beat it - you cut off a minute, up to a total of 10 minutes.

Both Brett and Galen will attempt to aid the best suited person for the job. Shae - would you like to roll for Galen?

Brett's aid roll to get the sails up and ready
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Who's the one doing the job here - to get the sails ready? The primary roll, that is. The time you start with the sail - after finishing the last rites - is now 5:00 PM.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Dior will fly most of the time, so he wouldn't technically take a seat in the boat the entire time, maybe not at all, as he can fly pretty fast (80ft). Ry was simply suggesting things and will wait to hear from Shaezon regarding Galen.

Ariarh's aid roll to get the sails up and ready:

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

Isani getting sails up and ready: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Ha! The desert girl gets the nat 20! and with the others aid may be able to achieve it.

With Ry's aid +2, she's up to 26. Waits for any other aid forthcoming so we can reduce the time further...

Hah - we'll chock it up to your bloodline :)

Meanwhile - those who help can do well - you may be able to do very good, actually.

I guess I'll roll for Galen now to aid Shaezon's roll -

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Whoo hoo! Looks like you currently have a 28 - so, yeah - currently you'll be doing this in 27 minutes, so that's good.

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

Yes, Isani's maternal bloodline indeed. ;) Plus she has had some experience around/knowledge of boats/barges with the River Sphinx so close to Sothis.

Indeed! It's too bad no one else is around to play - you guys were just ready to set off for adventure.

Oh well - I should say nothing - we got a lot of good social RP done today, so - yay!

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh has stuff she can socially RP on her province page, so it's all good. :)

With Kae's +2 to aid, it brings Isani's roll up to 30 and the time down to 25 mins. :)

Cool - the time is now 25 minutes - good times!

Depending on what Shae and Arasmes decide to do - if anything - they will be able to lower the time to about 20 minutes - if they both succeed.

That said - I'm just going to say they did - and you got it done in 20 minutes...

Shae will have to tell us if Galen will stay behind - otherwise - you drag the boat down to the water, and hop in.

Meanwhile - if Galen does not stay - then Brett will stay instead. It's up to you guys - Brett feels that someone should stay with the camp, though.

Of course - Clari could stay with Galen, or instead of Galen - if she wants...

The breastplate is made out of cold iron - with a possible mithril alloy to strengthen it - much like the hilt of the strange dagger you found.

Sadly - no one knows much about the dagger - if you used a 1d20+BAB you may discover more on it...

While my armor from home has served me well, if nobody objects, this fine armor will lend a bit more protection." he says to the Priestess and Druid. Kae wishes to step up his game, and gets hit too often as it stands, so It's time to get serious and boost his AC!

Kae takes a minute to remove his Elven Wooden armor and stows it in his saddle-pack with Konur, and prestidigitates the breastplate clean.

Yeah - Kae's been on Skype for the past hour - the two of us wondering where you are... good times! :) You planning on taking the other stuff - and do you want Galen to stick on the mainland - or Brett - or both?

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

I had to go get groceries -- the cupboards were bare! I didn't know you were waiting on Skype ... LOL ... sorry. I think Galen due to his age should stay on the mainland and wait it out with the horses -- Ariarh would have him protected (but that's up to Shae -- I hope he's okay with the suggestion).

Now get over here, it'll take you forever to get that on and you look like an idiot doing it yourself." Clari assists him in donning the armor, so it only takes two minutes, not four. "Honestly no no matter how much i think you've grown up, your still the little brat i knew back home." She says shaking her head as she assists him, "What would you do without me"

Two minutes later Kae and Clari be good to go and ready to sail!

Putting galen at home is really Shae's call, but i do like having brett around...

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

From the middle of the sailboat, Isani watches quietly at the interaction between the General and his old childhood friend, Clari. How different and easy her manner and demeanour are with him, she privately muses. Perhaps one day the Elven female will not mock me so. She then returns to the sails and hoisting and rigging them up so the company could begin their trip down the river.

Male Half-Elf Invulnerable Rager 2/Crossblooded Envenomed+Draconic Sorcerer 1/ Trapper Ranger 1/Rage-Vivisectionist 2/Dragon Disciple 1

Ka'etil whinces as Clari decides he needs her help, grimacing at her usual condescension which he had almost forgotten. He glances around and feeling Isani's gaze, he turns his head away silently cursing the loss of credibility he must be suffering to have a child younger looking than Ariarh calling him a brat. The tightening of a strap on teh breastplate jars him and takes him from his tought, as he winces. "Thank you kindly for your assistance," he says through gritted teeth, hiding his frustration as best he can...

"Well - Galen can wait here with the horses," Brett adds, stuffing his black powder weapons deep into a satchel - to keep them dry from the torrents of rain, as he slips into the boat.

"Gods - the rain's really something, eh? Well - let's get going, then, heh?" he calls out, as the water in the lake sloshes up and down....

Brett loosens his sword in his sheath, and hoists a light spear - which he founds in the bow of the boat.

"Come on - get in, then," he calls out over the downpour.

Well - let's go - for now I'm guessing Shae won't mind - if he does - we can retcon things - the lake IS 3 miles to the other coast. Though Cali won't be able to fit in the boat - she can either be dismissed - or she can just fly around above. However - if she does fly around - it's likely that she'll have to circle the boat consistently - and, even more likely - her presence will give you away. But that's up to Arasmes on what he wants to do with Cali.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

"Shaezon, I must ask if you would consider leaving Galen here on the mainland as we travel by water to the island. The sailboat has limited space and also, your apprentice is a mere 14 years of age and I would not see him mortally injured during this excursion. What say you? Will you instruct him to remain in the old town hall building with the horses and wait until we return? He could ensure the horses are fed and watered and whilst hidden he could keep an eye out for any travellers who come this way. I know he has magic but he is untried and has a long life ahead of him -- I would not see it cut short. I leave it to you to decide. Thank you."

Ariarh's manner is respectful for she does not want to offend either master or apprentice. She has considered all sides/factors and feels it is best considering his age ... On the other side of the equation, Brett's experience in battle means he would be an asset and Ariarh would see him go with them. But she will listen to Shazeon's opinion on the matter.

Haha. This post looks strange and out of order considering Brett's previous posting but I wanted to socially rp it with Shae. It's there in case of any retcon. :)

Galen moves quickly back to the horses - he is not happy to be in the room - but it is more comfortable then being in the downpour - plus - he can get some much needed sleep. - though he would have asked Ariarh to borrow the Draconic War Manual - as it is unlikely that you will be reading it on the way there - or back - and he'd be happy to read it "Whilst" you're gone :)

If you wouldn't mind, that is...

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh leaves the Draconic War Manual with Galen, with the instruction he takes very good care of it, does not lose it or pull it apart to transcribe it (or even just transcribe it for his own copy). She will take possession of it upon her return.

He promises not to pull it apart - and he'll take very good care of it.

"Come on, you scurvy dogs! The wind's up - the storm's high - and action is brewing, like the bubbling deep," Brett roars out as he bounds up to the stern of the boat, gripping his pipe between his teeth, peering at the gray chop before you.

"Now you bloody buggers - CAST OFF!"

And with that - the party gets into the vessel and lets the sail out - sliding the oars into the water, and easing quickly into the lake choppy lake.

Arasmes I still need to know what is going on with Cali. Is she there - or not... Are you swapping her for an elemental to help you, for example - or are you having her fly about.

Yeah - I've been waiting over 8,500 posts for Brett to say that - so - huzzah!

All you rolls get the same result as Isani - ironically - the one Knowledge Check that may have been helpful here was "history" - and in that alone you got a 10...

wah wah wahhhhhh

Brett leans forward on the gunwale – his features nearly obfuscated by the pouring rain and mist as the boat plows into the water – the chop of the rough storm causing it to rise and fall.

He slides out his spyglass – and peers forward at the island, takes a quick glance, then slips it back into his satchel and spits deftly to the leeward.

”Well mates, good news – and bad,” he calls out over the sound of the storm.

”That island yon? It still be blanketed around the base by a bloody fine mist… Near to fog, I should say… I can see the stub of that tower peeking up from it – but not much… When we get closer we’ll need to angle the sails to slow our pace by near half speed – else we may dash on some unknown rock – and I don’t know how we plan on getting off the island, without a boat!”

”Now – we can’t see into the mist – so I’m hoping that they can’t see out of the mist! If that be true – then we may be lucky on some cover, eh?”

He pauses a moment to adjust himself – so that he can lean forward more dramatically…

”Now – here be a notion to chew over. Like as not the crew that done the killing landed on the beach – we saw evidence o’ that when Kae and I done walked the shore looking for bloody clues! But I reckon that any beast o’ the briny deep don’t be too risky-like, else it would have smashed them bad that done the sailing twixt yon island and the mainland,” he adds, nodding sagely.

Female (totally, totally) Succubus

Yeah – so, in simple language – Brett seems to think that if the bad guys sailed between the island and the shore and didn’t fear a monster attack – then maybe there’s nothing to fear? Then again – it also strikes me as a dark and sinister coincidence that even as you’re sailing across a choppy lake, peppered with heavy rain and storm – that the GM decided to casually ask about rules involving Skill Checks which could be modified by weight… And I mean, seriously – his guff about “Climbing”? That totally didn’t fool anybody, right? He’s secretly wants to know the deal with “Swimming” – just to make sure we don’t all drown, ‘cause he’s totally going to make us have to deal with that any time – sneaky basterd! Oh well – at least we know what’s coming. One more thing – just a casual question – so, like – is Brett trying out to be an extra in Pirates of the Caribbean 5 – because that guy needs about a dozen eggs to go with that amount of “ham” in his “speechifying… I mean – totally, right? Oh well – back to the game…

Yeah - I said it - we were all thinking it anyway - and besides - it's been weeks and I barely say anything - you need me - life would be boring without me... Now - you may all cheer while I blow you kisses! Mwuah! Mwuah! Mwuah!

As everyone sits there, pretty much letting the wind carry them forward over the water, Brett continues to lean out, his hand gripping the spear tightly. He is deliberately using his Perception abilities every few minutes – trying to see if there may be a creature to watch out for.

What makes it a pain for a guy like Brett is the following: the weather is severely cramping his ability to spot anything. I mean, was that chop of a waver – or the crest of a huge monster! Oh – no, wait; it was just a wave…

Also – even if he got a natural 20 – it may not matter, as there may actually be nothing there to see.

Even so – Brett is now “on guard” – and is actively using Perception as a “take 10” to spot anything. However – he will not be rowing (as Arasmes is sure to point out – glibly I suspect – Brett is too small to reach the oars properly anyway) – and he isn’t sure how to handle the sails. So – he will at least be watching with a “Take 10” – for Brett, that equals a 21 – Does anyone wish to aid Brett – remember – I need at least one person on the sail, and one on the tiller – and the more on the oars – the more speed you’ll get.

As a bonus – the person on the tiller can also “aid Brett” – for obvious reasons, of course.

That said – I need four on oars – who’s up for it? I also need one on sails. Your current speed is about 2 knots – with oarsmen – you can probably increase this by half – and if anyone uses magic? Probably even more then that – just let me know your plans….

Female Changeling - Osirion Cleric 4/Oracle 3

"I have the sails, Mister Brett!" she says with raised voice to be heard over the wind and storm.

Isani handles the sails and keeps her mind focused on the force of the wind and how fast the vessel is moving. She is ready if they need to change direction or speed.

You don't need to make Acrobatics Check - I asked on the Discussion Thread because of a point about new playable races - you don't need to make the check, though - yet...

Well - for now I guess I'll have to NPC Kae, Clari, Arasmes and Shaezon - and have them all working the oars - any plans for Dior?

Meanwhile - while this goes on - after nearly half an hour you are about a little over a mile from the mainland - and you'd guess maybe about a mile and half from the island - hard to say, though - as the mist makes it difficult.

FYI - yeah - the time is now, roughly - 5:00 PM -maybe a quarter after...

You still see nothing - yet...

Hmm... hard to say - it's coming down pretty heavily - makes it difficult to see more then 50 feet from boat - Brett recommends lights on the prow - so if there is rocks - you can see them...

The fact that is late in the day - approaching evening - and the sky is heavily clouded, this certainly doesn't help.

"Oye," Brett calls out "Anyone think we could get some light here? I'm thinking I want to see more then I want to be sneaky - and on the water, well - we hit a rock, we may all go down!" he calls out.
