Introduction

This is the Kingmaker Campaign, yet it is filled with many deviations from the boxed set. The "Campaign Information" page is meant as a quick resource to help sum up the thousands of posts quickly.

we're not going to go there now, so i jsut wanted information as Arsinian has no real experience with dungerneering himself

Arsinian wants to have a report to submit about the caves and how to proceed. None of the men are on duty for more than 8 hours. They are on duty for 8, and then there are a third of the group that are to be awake and able to mobilize quickly in case of attack, but they aren't on duty.

profession: soldier check
1d20

Quick Note:

When/If Arsinian reaches level 2, he will need to drop 1 rank in Profession: Soldier. Don’t worry about it – if you do this in the long run, it will help. Remember, too – any time you have 5 ranks in a Profession skill it generally offers synergy bonuses to other skills and abilities. So, in the long run – having your two officers take that skill would be useful. Remember, also – they can put more then 1 Rank in a skill per level – just so long as the Ranks don’t exceed their maximum level.

In any event…

It occurs to Arsinian that the current state of the “Bounty Hunter Guild” is a little too “Independent” for his taste. Currently they are sort of “Unionizing” to create their own codes and policies, and then levy them on the town/nation – as to what they think is fair.

If Arsinian (though Kae may be better equipped to handle it when he gets back, even though Arsinian can promptly start the process) – were to approach the Bounty Hunter gang/union leaders soon, he could probably set up a basic contract with them; a sort of set of rules, then have them stick by the rules.

Of course – the rules would be sort of loose – you can’t make them do things – they are independent. But you can sell them licenses to work as Bounty Hunters – kind of like “bail bondsmen” – with specific rules. And if a person doesn’t have the license – then they are considered a vigilante.

You recall that former Town Leader – Alaric – had done something like that in the past. Perhaps he has notes on how to proceed in the fortress? In either case – his data would help you a lot – and with Kae as your “General” and “Go-between” – you think it could work.

Finally – Ariarh is pretty diplomatic, and has some pretty good ideas on how to be “good” in the town. Her suggestions may be useful in this as well – and, as a last resort – you can always ask Brett. Though he generally hates to just “Tell People what to do” – preferring to be allusive and only give vague hints/suggestions.

Ariarh, and Kae would, in this case – be your best bet, and looking at Alaric’s old notes would help, too.

But a formal Bounty Hunter Guild – created and mandated by town law – would help a lot, at the least in stabilizing prices, and the sooner that was done, the better it would be for the nation, and its treasury!

Dire enjoys himself at Otter's but otherwise just kicks around town for maybe a day before heading out to go hunting/exploring in the nearby woods.

To Dire –

”If you’re looking for a farmstead – okay, what exactly are you planning on doing with it? Well – nah – that be yer affair, I reckon,” Brett says.

If you want to go hunting – do you have a particular place you’d like to travel in? If so – what is your plan? Did you have something particular you want to hunt for, or just having your character kill time? If you want to hunt – let me know – because when it happens, we can RP the hunt out, if you want to.

Dire grins a bit sheepishly, " It's not for me, would be for my family. Place they could come that might be a bit more hosptable than up aroudn Port Ice. As for me? I don't need any lands but I might build a hunting cabin around here somewhere, far enough away to be on my own but not too far away to not be of help to the area."

Dire isn't looking for anything in particular, just to see if there is a good supply of game animals, and he's always on the lookout for new and interesting places. He'd likely ask Brett if there was any place nearby to go and explore that the townsfolks want to know more about. Not a cave full of trogs mind you, just someplace to satisfy a bit of wanderlust.

Absolutely wouldn't mind Rping it out.

To Dire

Okay 2 quick things –

1. The party is scheduled to go explore to the south – there is specific land that they needed to explore. To level in the game is “quest based” – everything that is done, be it killing monsters, gaining treasure, and defeating bosses – as fun and cool as it is, it will not allow you to level; just get some bonus’s to your character.

None of the players are able to level until they explore the lands to the south.

The majority of the party is currently exploring to the north; they will not be able to explore the southlands until they return back to the town – this will take them roughly 3 days “in game” before they get back. Once they get back – it is likely they will want to begin to explore the south. This is fairly wild country – that has had no formal exploration – though there have been forays there before; none of those probes have been from anyone that is formally part of the party.

2. So, we can socially RP some combat/hunting, but you won’t get XP – since I tried doing XP in a play by post game, and it was a bit of a problem. If you’re lucky – on the trail you may stumble across something with potential wealth – but then again – you may not.

If you still want to formally go hunting, though – just let me know where you’d like to head to, and we’ll make it happen.

Meanwhile – as for getting a house? Because the game uses “Kingmaker” Rules – there is specific fixed costs for building property and houses – and so on. They each function around the idea of Build Points – (BP for short). A typical house costs, roughly – 3 BP – if you want to “Buy” a Build Point – 1 Build Point costs (according to the book) 4,000 GP. Hence the price.

As for getting a piece of land to build a cabin on – on the main map you’ll see hexes – each hex is 12 miles side to side – for a total of 144 miles. The town of Saravale is located in a hex – you could build a house near to the town (say, 2 miles from it) – have some privacy, but still be within city limits.

However – all property owned by citizens is kind of controlled by “eminent domain”. The Council decided that no one could formally “keep land” – because they didn’t want an independent to come in, buy a bunch of land, and create some sort of “secession” from the government.

Therefore – to get some real land/power – you need to be recognized as a noble – or a member of the Council – once that happens, you can eventually create a barony – and then inside that land your own township – your own hirelings, your own taxes, and your own army – once that happens, you can then do what you want with your army, as you like to.

But that’s kind of farther down the stretch. Baronies aren’t even something people can get access to until the party hits level 7 – which won’t happen until after they explore the lands to the south. After that, then things will start moving – but for now, you kind of have to wait until they return from their mission to the north.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about how this works – just toss them up on the discussion thread, though – and we can go from there.

What sort of check do i need to find Alaric's notes regarding the Bounty-hunting Licenses?
After speaking with Selendrian and Delain, Arsinian goes to Sylvath, as Sylvath is the most Senior officer here (Warden). He throws a smart salute, and reports, "Sir Sylvath, I've set up guard rotations, and have some extra troops for patrols. While we were in the Swamp, we found the Trogg caves. I've also put up a bounty on the Trogg's 50 gold a head, and am martialing defenses. Just wanted to keep you appraised of the situation. Also, if you see Counsilman Ariarh, would you inform her that I am going to the fortress to work up a report for the COuncil regarding a Bounry-hunter's guild. Let us keep things more organized, Sir."

Sylvath is the Commander in charge of CIty defences at the moment, and Arsinian is seeing to business for kae, but Sylvath should be able to run things. Arsinan gives a report on the Troop dispersals, and assignments. He orders the men with him to return to the Barracks, and make sure it is known that they are to report directly to Sylvath for the time being.

Does Sylvath have a group of men under his command at the moment, or is the only force the Army?

He also sends an Infiltrator to find Ariarh, let her know that he is at the fortress working out what to do about the Bounty-Hunters, and that he would like her input in compiling the initial report.

He's going to gather information right now, tho. WHat checks does he need to make? and what does he find?

Answers to questions -

1. The best way to find such documents is to go through all the paperwork in the Council Chambers - but that's a lot of paperwork, and chances are that Sir Sylvath wouldn't like you making a unilateral search through the documents - however; it is likely that if you spoke to either Council members Kane or Rowan (Ariarh or Brett) - then they will be better able to direct you to the proper paperwork.

Brett has made no secret that he went to Otter's - you can find him there with Dire. He may be interested in the Bounty Hunter guild potential.

Failing that - report to Robert Tyrell - he has been made "Deputy Leader" - as long as the party is gone. He may know where the documents are as well.

2. Sir Sylvath has a small company of personal retainers/men - who have sworn first an oath to obey the god Apsu - and obey the laws of the land. They are - in effect, training to be squires - the men who tried to serve under Alaric's "Adopted Brother" - they are now working directly for Sir Sylvath; they number 7 men - as well as the kobolds.

Of course - Sir Sylvath gives his loyalty to the Council - as well as Anuk-su.

3. The Infiltrator will let you know that Ariarh is currently busy speaking to the other kobolds; Adjt specifically - then is going to speak to Sir Dashan and Aliento about her findings in the cave - you are welcome to come track them down, if you prefer - or find Brett with Otter, or report to Robert Tyrell at the Fortress.

Arsinain, swings by Otter's place, asking for Brett.
When he sees the halfling, "Ah, Councilman Rowan, I been running around, and seen potential situation with the Bounty-Hunters. Setting up a guild, rules and such. Thought you might be interested in lending a hand. I was going to be heading up to the fortress to find some any old notes and information so I can write up a report for a plan..."

To Arsinian

Brett is lounging on a large mattress – he is surrounded by the usual hodge-podge of “attendants” – who are giggling and feeding him sweetmeats as he chomps lustily on a cigar, while a heavy-set woman is pummeling his back. You can see his clothes are already well pressed – and his leathers oiled and weapons polished.

”Ohhh…. yeah – that’s the spot!” he groans as you enter and lay out your plans.

”Wait, what – paperwork – gods, I hate paperwork – oh for… oh yeah – that’s bleeding beautiful!” he calls out.

”Nah – ye don’t want me to be leading ye all over the bloody town – I’m more of handy support lad – and, occasionally – plucky comic relief, eh? But, nay, nay – fer now I recommend ol’ Drake – that fellow be bred to the task o’ paperwork – he learned it – and he knowed the land well when he done banditry – before he done got reformed… he can help ye best in setting up the guild. He knows the in’s and out’s – as I see it. And he be having to mind the coin, and all the other hash that needs being done in the fortress yonder… Ask him fer help – he’ll give it to ye straight and true. Just lay out yer plans, and he’ll iron out any loose ends!”

Brett snuggles in the cushions a moment, then barks out –

”Now – where be my “happy ending” – I want a taste of some sweet pie!”

Turning a suddenly sour look to Arsinian, he lets out a frustrated sigh.

”Oh, you…! That ain’t a poxing metaphor – they really do have pie here – and I can’t be getting a happier ending then a good slice of hot apple pie with a cool dollop of sweetened cream on it, eh?”

Brett falls to muttering to himself about any misconceptions about his time in the laundry.

”Huh! I may be a rake – but I ain’t never be bleeding paying fer it – I get all my lovin’ through charm, rugged good looks, and surprisingly well-above-average bits and pieces, if ye know what I mean!”

The girls giggle, even as he looks eagerly around for that hot pie…

Arsinian raises an eyebrow at Brett, paying or not, Arsinian doesn't much care about the predilections of others. Had he, his time as a bandit would have been much more unsavory. He'd rather leave each to their own and not know much about it. "Enjoy your pie, counselman," he says, with a slightly uncomfortable expression. "I'll be off then"

He leaves Otters, and mounts up his horse, riding to the fort to find drake. "Ah, Sir. I'm here looking for some documents left by Alaric, regardin the Bounty-Hunters. Trying to get some information to write up a report and such, but I don't really have much information on those folk or what's been done afore. Busy with the army and all. Anyway, think you could lend me a hand, help me figure out what sort fo information there is about bounty-hunters, and what it would take to say, set up a guild and get things ordered?"

Robert Tyrell is sitting in the council chambers. He is well dressed, wearing dark green trousers, black leather boots, a light green tunic, and a long gray cloak draped over his shoulder. He seems focused, intent and professional.

Standing near him, almost like a retainer, is the girl Dasha. She is different also – and is now wearing a long honey colored dress, with cream colored sleeves and a rich maroon colored cloak, with a deep hood that hangs low over her face; her black hair peaking out from under the hem.

Tyrell leans back and listens to your proposal, nodding once.

”Very good – the former lord Alaric did have some sort of proposal toward that end. His project was to sell legal licenses from the crown – er – the Council – to private citizens for the purposes of being a formal recognized Bounty Hunter. Specifically, under his policy – any person who wished to attempt to track down a legal bounty was formally required to purchase such a license. Without the license, any person who tried to collect a posted bounty would be prosecuted as a vigilante.”

”Lord Winter’s suggestion was wise – roughly 100 citizens applied for the licenses – they were worth 200 gold pieces each – which earned the crown 20,000 gold quickly. Even so – not all hunter’s are successful – many of them may die during their expeditions – not even being able to collect a bounty. But, Lord Winter was correct in his assumption - for the State had already collected their money, whether they lived or die to collect a future reward.”

Tyrell pauses, considering.

”I believe this is why your initial proposal was rejected – for a citizen to endanger their life for the promise of returned coin is risky at best – the reward best be worth it. But – your pardon – you offered a very small amount of coin for a man who’s chief method of earning his bread is to risk his life in the wilderness and endure less then savory conditions. From this venture – a citizen must believe that, on their return, they would earn enough for one “mark” to be able to pay for their meals, their roof, and their other necessaries – such as materials for hunting more elusive prey – and the means to heal themselves should the venture miscarry.”

”The price you promised would earn them hardly anything. A baker or carpenter earns more of a profit then a mere 5 gold a month – and who knows when the next bounty will be available? All of this is further compromised by the fact that they purchased legal licenses to hunt in the first place! This would suggest the promise of high returns, not to mention the fact that such a price is bound to encourage an independent that he has some legal latitude in the procurement of illegal agents. That is to say – they are more likely to assume that because they have a license that, at least for them – “anything goes”.

Tyrell sighs, as Dasha moves behind him, to rest her young hands on his broad shoulders, she watches you with an expressionless face, her eyes staring deeply at you from under the hem of the hood.

”Though the Lord Winter’s plan did earn the land much money to start – I believe it has given anyone who purchased such a contract the right to assume they have legal stake in the government and the ability to dictate terms. Yet what can be done? The licenses were issued – and, as I see – were to last for the term of a year. To cancel those licenses now would mean the State would – in good conscience – be forced to return the money; money that has already been earmarked for spending. And even if the State returns all of the money – then it loses quite a bit of respect with the community – as it has formally repudiated a contract authorized by our formal leader.”

”If the Lord Winter had not quit his post, no doubt he might be better able to solve this dilemma himself – but he did leave us – we are without his aid – and there seems to be little to do in this matter, except allow our hand to be played out.”

”Yet… we must never forget that the hunter’s are first business men – not loyalists. Their primary motivator is coin – not honor or love for the kingdom. That said – we can, likely – assume that even now the rabble-rousers among them are eager to create better terms for themselves. It is likely that they are saying, if you’ll pardon me – Forsooth! What manner of man is it who does govern us? We were forced to pay huge amounts of coin to this government – and, having ceded the coin – expected the promise of high rewards! Yet, what is this? When enemies have pushed to the very doorstep of the walls of this capital – to bring death and bloodshed to the citizens therein – rather then engage the full might of the army and sally forth to bring death to these creatures – we are asked to engage our own selves – forced to move to the front lines – to take action – to die, if necessary – to heft them from the vice they have pinched themselves in! And what do they offer us – who stand ready as the vanguard of their own advances – while they themselves do nothing but rally behind the walls – fortifying their own position? Nothing but pittance! Faugh! Say rather – we earned more recompense then this offering by being sundered from high wealth and forced thusly to pay the crown. Or is that not a ruse to seek easy tax from those they believe to die before such payment can be collected? – Your pardon – I am not very eloquent in longs speeches, save now and again by necessity. But my poor guesses aside - it is likely that those needs are certainly to be in the forefront of their minds.”

”I presume that now there are men in the town below with their own personal assumptions on what their license formally grants them – what they can properly expect from us – being that they purchased the license in the first place. I also believe that we are likely to see a slow surge from the town – and, in time – we will see men, representatives, if you will – ready to come forth and speak for the slowly emerging group – demanding terms and forcing action with threats.”

”The task at hand, then – as I see it – is to circumvent such foolishness. I would ride to the town, and seek the citizens who have begun such speeches. Find among them the wisest and most mature of the group – see what exactly they want – decide the value of terms that is being asked – then, if those terms are goodly in nature – accept them – and take the mouthpiece of their faction and confer upon him some sort of honorary title – let him therefore be the go-between from them and us. Let him be personally responsible for quashing any potential trouble – put the man on a modest salary, if necessary – and let it be known that he is to be a “Man of Respect” in the community. Then, in the future – they can sort out this foolishness without great trouble to us. Further – once we know what these people want, formally – we can determine if it is worth our time – if it is, if we tolerate it – we agree – and then force them to stick by their own words. In short – we outmaneuver them,” he adds.

Leaning back, he reaches to Dasha’s hand and holds it gently in his, watching you.

”Very good – then, for now – advance into town – examine the citizens – find those who have purchased the license for hunting – see the needs they want – consolidate that list of needs – bring it back to the fortress – present it formally to the Council – let them ratify the decision – and, having done so – force them to adhere to the values that are mutually agreeable.”

Tyrell says nothing now, contenting himself to merely watch you a moment.

”Now – I am a bit busy – so, either attend to the task, or let me know if there is anything else you need help with,” he says with a polite but stern tone.

Arsinian – you feel as if you were dealing with a young, extremely educated and worldly lieutenant. Despite his age – he is clearly a man who “knows his stuff” – and also knows you are, at best – a sergeant in the military – while he is acting as the Deputy Leader – unless a Council Member is in town. He is not being rude – but he is not being “chummy”.

If it helps you understand him better - the relationship you are now seeing between Tyrell and Dasha is best characterized if you were to watch the movie Hitman - Tyrell behaving very much like Agent 47 - while Dasha is behaving now much like (in both voice and appearance) - like Nika Baronia - if you haven't watched the movie - do yourself a favor and do so. It's worth seeing...

Now - the Black Stone – this was an item worshipped by ancient men – before true civilization came to be – but it was called an idol – the stone itself was worshipped almost as if It was more then a stone, but rather, a god unto itself. The stone suggests an item that is whole and solid to be worshiped - this is not consistent with chipped black flecks embedded in rock deep beneath the earth – even though the chips in the caves below may have such powers, I know of no people that would worship such little stone flecks, even though those fragments may have such power…” he adds, somewhat frustrated.

Remember – the stone itself that the black flecks were buried in – it was not necessarily sandstone – the one clear thing is that the stone was consistent with the same stone on the cliffs of the fortress… odd that such stone would be found so deep underground.

Anuk-su’s Answer

”No – I do not know where they come from; I do not fully know anything – though I do have guesses – on their origin. But I do not wish to share my guesses – until I have more proof – if my guesses are wrong, then they would miscarry – I do not wish to fail – so I shall wait, until I know more,” she answers, in a way that is completely inconsistent with her usual bravado.

Knowledge of the “Old Gods”

Ariarh would have no knowledge of these things – other then what Aliento has told her – except to search her memory – she vaguely remembers that the creatures called “Old Gods” were so named because their were beings of such extreme power that they were worshipped as if they were gods – and though they never created life, or made things of note – they had an innate power that was so strong that the simple worshipped them.

But there was another side to them – Ariarh at least would remember that any person who spent long study in the Old Gods would eventually feel the stress of that knowledge – pursuit of those things would eventually drive a person insane – even mentioning the names aloud can conjure dark forces – the same applies to the written words.

Of course – it can be done – a person can study these things and not go insane – but in the end, such study is dangerous and often times deadly. Aliento has feared to dabble in this information – though he has learned much of it already. Nevertheless – you have seen what type of person he has become – was it because of the study? Was it because he was a half-breed who may not be judged as a full human – suffering racism all of his life – or was it because he pushed so close to these dark powers?

You recall vaguely that there was another who dabbled in such knowledge in your party – the one called “Hermia” – she suffered from those curses now and again when she studied the information – her demise was less then pleasant.

Short answer – the Knowledge Religion is very hard because it is a very specific knowledge skill set; you do not learn anything new on it at this time. But remember - you learned quite a bit from Aliento already - more then most people know already about such things without going mad...

"You are a good and brave man, Sir Dashan, and I do not question your ability or your conviction. Alas, I believe we should wait until my fellow councilmen return to the city and I have spoken with them. I realise al-Kazeem's power may spread and grow even as we wait but we need to learn more about this creature, observe him, before we approach him so directly. What say you?"

Diplomacy with Dashan: 1d20+10

Good diplomacy roll – therefore…

”Lady –thou art as wise as thy are beautiful,” Sir Dashan says with a gracious bow – only mildly interrupted by a noticeable harrumph in the background from Miss Anuk-su, who seems to be a trifle annoyed at how well Sir Dashan has accepted your suggestion.

”Yes – apologies – If it were possible I would indeed rush to these villains and slay them outright – if only for the insult they offered thee. Yet – thou art correct. Caution would be better advised at this time. For myself – I am at a loss – I am not gifted with subtlety in such matters,” Sir Dashan says, grasping the hilts of his sword tightly – clearly eager to take some direct action rather then talking. A man of action – sitting by when he is certain that this person is guilty – though he cannot formally prove it – clearly bothers him.

But – he is bound by the laws of the land, and will not go against them.

Aliento stops in his pacing, halting to drink a draught of wine, then turns to you.

”As for this “al-Kazeem" – if that is even his real name… which I doubt – for this creature seems full of duplicity – I should not think we need worry overly much. At least – the Council should not worry much – for some time. A being like him will have realized that you are no doubt suspicious of his action – he will in turn take great pains to be very… honest? Yes – for the moment – I think this person will be very mild for a while – he knows he is being watched… even now, I suppose that he may be engaging his own espionage network.”

Aliento steps quickly to the window – peeking out quickly – glancing around for a moment with a frown on his face.

”That recalls to my mind – have you seen anything – noticed anything – since your interview with him? Have you observed any suspicious behavior from anyone – anything like that?” he says, suddenly sharp and intent.

”This “Kazeem” person – he is likely a spellcaster – he may have even tried to use sorcery to manipulate you – or possibly something more insidious – by that I mean – if he is not human – but some other unusual creature – he may have… his own powers to call upon – not necessarily sorcery – but some other powers. For example – your goodly ward here can breathe noxious gases which can paralyze an enemy – this is not magic; but power inherent – if this creature is not human; he may have tried such a power on you… Gods! Would that I knew more on this creature – there are far too many coincidences with creatures that are “part men” and “part reptile” – and now this?”

Aliento rubs his chin as Sir Dashan watches him in surprise – obviously his mind not used to absorbing such concepts so quickly – or coming to such deductions when duplicity is involved.

”Lencher was the first, as I recall it – do you remember? That arrogant little sod – I met with him momentarily at Oleg’s – and Councilman Rowan informed me of more – I had ample time to read his journal during Winter Solstice – the information inside was extremely disturbing – and again, the connection with Osirion from the elemental Plane of Air – his desire was to mix blood as well; part men, part beast, part reptile? You found such evidence as well – these “coincidences” seem far too blended… We must know more - we must find out more, and soon!” he adds, almost to himself.

”Aye – nevertheless – it is not our place to impose our duties upon the legal law of this land – nor to attempt to supersede their will in such matters, my brother,” Sir Dashan says, interrupting politely.

”Bah – such talk is well and good – but when men do not take action – if we are not bold, if we do not dare great risks – then we may fail and…”

”Aliento, enough,” Sir Dashan says quietly, but firmly.

The half-elf turns a quick look to his comrade, than lets out a deep exhale of air.

”Of course – you are right, yes,” he says after a moment.

Aliento turns to you.

”Lady, apologies – I was somewhat distraught – but, the moment has passed. If I may be permitted a suggestion? This Kazeem fellow is filled with a triple set of danger. Firstly – and most clearly – he is outright deceiving you to his true purpose and background. Perhaps he has good reason to lie to you outright – but I doubt it. We therefore know, on that very basic level, he is a liar.”

”We know he is further embroiled with southerners who have come to this land – and are likely connected to a cult – such things do not breed folk who are liberal with their information; he will work all the harder to keep his policies secret, and is thus doubly distrustful. And, finally – you have strong reason to suspect he has connections to illegal activities with potent chemicals which, if used – could cause citizens to become weak, and spend large monies to enrich his purse – and that aside, his ultimate problem is that he is behaving in a dishonest fashion again.”

”In all these things he has far too much to jeaprodize – but you need to be watchful. Who among your people is well skilled in espionage – and, not known by the general public? Surely Councilman Rowan may be adept in his own way – but in the end – he is too well known… this is, after all – a small town, as of yet,” he adds.

”Do you have anyone you can trust – implicitly – that is able to take the battle to them – er, by battle – I should say – espionage? Someone that is skilled – and someone who can watch – and someone who is very careful – for if this Kazeem is as powerful as I suspect – such an ally who is careful may not live long, if he is discovered… of course, I do not truly know… I still think that Kazeem will do nothing forward for some time – he is no doubt assuming that you are watching him already. But without further true evidence – well… in this I would say caution is best, whatever you decide, lady.”

Now you know the total of the coin – minus the cost of the magical stuff you found. Tell me what you are thinking of doing with the total wealth, and we can go from there. Of course – it should be noted – only the council can formally decide what to do with the cost of the narcotics – and, of course – if you are able to take a “cut” of the goods – you will need to deduct that cut from the total cost.

In other words, if someone wants a masterwork breastplate – they can take the breastplate – but it will count for their cut. This assumes that the person has a formal “cut” of the loot.

Just let me know what you want to do.

I agree, Mister Aliento, Hadad al-Kazeem is probably lying low at the present time and has temporarily suspended whatever manner of business he is undertaking here in Saravale. I do believe he is trying to cause unrest as he has been visiting our townsfolk door to door to bring them the word of his beliefs. That cannot be good."

"There is a spy in town that is little known by the village let alone these cultists and he is a very clever fellow from what I have heard. He travelled here with the man and lady mentioned and has been moving about the city quite inconspicuously. The goblin is called Gragakh and I would like it if you could keep his identity quiet, please. I would give him the best opportunity to garner information without the threat of exposure. Okay, I just realised I have no idea where the meeting is taking place between Ry and the Ustalavians -- I thought it would be in the village but remembered they had rooms in the fortress. Let us say they met up with Ry in the village ... in her apartments.

Since the two parties haven't formally come together and Ariarh is still interviewing various folk back in the village, she would not know about the enemy treasure at present ...

Indeed - yeah, I thought that was the case myself, but I was not sure either. So the village it is. More on their response when I get home from work, which may be sooner, rather then later - depending on if I do tutoring today or if my student cancels or whatever happens. But'll have the answer on the board formally later today.

Yes, I kind of put it on both threads in case, for some reason - people aren't looking at both boards. Now they'll know that if I don't hear any follow up questions by this evening - I am just fast-forwarding. FYI - excellent job on Gragkh - I was hoping you'd remember him, I'm glad you did. He's already been working on things privately - with your encouragement, it can only get better for you guys.

This name is used for lack of a better term. They are the military units that are skilled at gathering information, Interrogations, negotiating, running errands, etc. They are not necessarily spies, or at all unsavory, but rather they are much more socially apt than nost of the other soldiers.

Bounty Hunter Question

You have several questions – all of them are connected to various answers – those specific answers are going to be radically different based on the two primary “candidates” that are listed below. I shall simply give you all the information from both candidates – and let you make your own conclusions.

There are two primary leaders that are gaining support. Each have their advantages – and disadvantages.

The first of the two is a man named – he is from Andoran. Your infiltrators have discovered that he is 32 years old – his name is Ulric Stevon – he is from Andoran. He is eager to unify the people, in some type of “Union” – specifically for the rights of citizens who are eager to have formal powers within the context of the State.

Ulric is interested in giving the people of the town a specific voice. He is rather poor, though has had some basic experience as a military border patrol agent in Andoran – specifically as a special agent who’s job was to watch out for Cheliax agents. He served a 10 year commission – and left the service at 26 – then headed north.

He spent time in Galt – and learned something of the people there – studying about the lore and history of the land, especially interest in the people’s revolution – and then, after that – spent time moving north – and eventually ended up in the River Kingdoms – specifically coming to your land eager to see something of the government.

He has no desire to work for the government here. He has no desire to work for the military, either. Instead – he has a personal desire to see justice done – and villains brought to justice – but believes this should be a matter conducted by the people, and for the people.

But he also believes that the people should have a better representation then the current government. Stevon feels that the current “Council” is not much different then an elected nobility – and does little to listen to the voice and will of the people that it represents. Stevon feels that other independents – such as himself – should have a right to unite as team and offer their opinion to the government – and expect to be heard.

Stevon has suggested that, as Hunters are specifically responsible for bringing in criminals, at great personal risk – they are, in fact the means that justice is produced. He has further added an opinion he learned from Galt that whoever controls the means of production has the true power. Stevon feels that if the Council sells legal license to Hunt down villains – it is right and reasonable to expect anyone who has purchased such a license should have a formal “vote” on the council.

Stevon is advocating for the unification of all workers that risk their life – specifically encouraging citizens to take an active role in telling the government directly and implicitly what the citizens want – and bring the agents of the State “To the Table” – and tell the State formally what the people want – and expect prompt and reasonable actions from the state.

Stevon is not considered violent in any way (outside of his work, when he does work as a Hunter, of course - he uses whatever force is required, but as for political control - he does not advocate anything aggressive) – he specifically advocates for nonviolent methods with all honest citizens – and when it comes to the State – he argues for people to be as reasonable and courteous as possible – saying that courtesy and non-violence are the only way to effect change in any government. Despite the fact that he is a very competent Hunter – he does not argue for anything – except granting any citizen who has formally “paid the State” for a license to have the right to speak and be recognized on the Council.

Stevon concludes that if the State is willing to profit from their coin – the State should be responsible for listening to what the citizens feel is best.

The second man is Argyle Mornay – he is 43 comes from Brevoy. Argyle is a man from a minor noble house – very minor. He is the youngest child – and has had some experience as soldier – specifically an officer – but not very noteworthy in the job, though he does have some skill.

Mornay has done some work with independents, and seems to feel that the Brevoyian government is very connected to political infighting. He grew tired of this and desired to go south and make his fortune without the stipulations or frustrations of the government.

He believes that reasonable rates of payment should be expected – and received. He also believes that the government has no right to interfere between the business of two private citizens – provided they are acting in consent. Therefore – he feels that there may be many things people do that bother him – but ultimately – he believes a “My business is mine – your business is yours – if you’re not hurting me, and are happy doing what you like – that’s your own business. I don’t judge people – they shouldn’t judge me.”

That said – his desire is to create a method in which a “free market” can exists for all Hunters. He believes it is right for the State to enact a demand of payment via “license” – but, having received this license – he believes that the State should mind its own affairs – and those affairs should be minimal at best. Let the citizens protect themselves first; the State should mind its own affairs; you don't need it's interference.

He recommends that all Hunters advocate together – inasmuch as they recognize the fact that a strong voice and leadership can protect them from the threat of a new “royalty” that has control over the population.

Mornay has even suggested that the Council – though theoretically benign in its inception and concept – is only prevented from being a tyranny by people like himself – who refuse to allow the government to become too big or powerful. Mornay adds that the nobles in Brevoy had a benign purpose as well – and now they are reduced to nothing but political squabbling and infighting.

Mornay is somewhat more aggressive then Stevon – he seems eager to get the people angry – but only because angry people will need a firm hand and direction. Perhaps he could be that firm hand… but perhaps that is only speculation. He may not be so eager to do anything formally – of this you don’t truly know. You only know he is eager to talk loudly of doing what every man feels to be best – and have no interference from the State – as that would compromises freedom.

Okay – just posting between jobs now – I’m leaving for work soon – so, here is a few details, in cased you missed them.

Regarding the treasure you tookFYI: The following detail is an exact copy of notes in the Combat Thread made to Kae. If you already them, you can skip ahead.

There is currently certain party members who (I believe, but am not sure) are up for “Cuts” – if we assume all PC’s are up for cuts, and include Khromm – then the following players can agitate for a cut of the loot:

1. Arasmes
2. Isani
3. Kae
4. Laz
5. Shaezon

Khromm asked for 10% off the top, that part is his. However – all the rest of the loot can arguably be divided 5 ways – which means, that – although Khromm is able to take a higher number to get his “10 Percent” – the rest of you will (theoretically) have 20 Percent of the remaining figure – which means you’ll probably have more then Khromm.

Khromm gets it – and he won’t argue – he made the deal, and he’ll stick by it, because of the “Mul” trait that forces them to stick by their “Focus” (more on that can be found later).

As for what the cut is specifically – that will be up to the party with regards to how the loot is going to be divided (do you take the drugs, some of the drugs, none of the drugs – sell them illegally, or through an open market – or what? That sort of thing).

While I’m it – in addition to expanding your kingdom by moving south – something that is kind of important – you may have picked up on the fact that to the south – by virtue of coincidence – there is quite a bit of unusual new races that are not “core” – these races will have full stats put up and detailed after you encounter them.

This is because – theoretically – after you explore the south – you’ll have a full “year” in game to pick-up a cohort. During that time – your cohort could be one of the new playable races – which you haven’t seen yet – and won’t see, until you finish the exploration to the South – and (depending on what you do) – meet these new creatures, and then in the year long “Down Time” – tell me how this new creature met with you and decided to be your Cohort.

So, plot points aside – that’s kind of the plan – get everyone together – go south – get the job done – level up – finish the chapter of this section – and then pick up a whole new style of play as soon as you level – in which many of you will be lords/ladies with land, title, wealth and power – and some flexibility within your own “baronies” – if you have one, to pretty much run it however you want to run it.

Okay – I hope that was helpful.

What the town tells you about buying the loot:

The following information comes from your citizens – assuming you offer full disclosure to trusted people. If you decide not to tell anyone – then disregard the following information. It is only important if the people in the Council chambers volunteer it to the public. For sanity sake – Khromm will say nothing to anyone about what he saw – it’s all up to the players.

1. Regarding Armor: Right off the bat you’re approached by Sir Sylvath – impressed with the Masterwork Breastplates – he will buy them all immediately for the small group of men he is creating for a team of knights. If you are willing to sell them, he will pay you – he does not formally have enough for all of them now – but will pay on commission if you sell them to him outright. No strings attached - but it will be 3 months before you formally have all the coin needed for the armor - for now he can only pay you 1/3 per month, but you know he WILL pay it off, if he buys it.

The other group who wants to buy the armor is the Bounty Hunters. They'll buy it all, right now, no questions asked, if you are interested in selling to them instead, and they'll pay full price, right now, if you sell to them.

2. Regarding Weapons: The Bounty Hunters are fairly impressed with your finds for the Bows – and scimitars – both excellent quality. They will pay full coin for them – with the provision that you only sell them to men who have a license to function as Bounty Hunters. They will pay full price, in coin – up front.

If you choose not to sell to the Bounty Hunters – please let me know who you want to sell them to – assuming you sell them. You may not want to, deciding to keep them for special members of your military forces – such as officers, and so on.

3. Regarding Combat Trained Horses: Sir Sylvath, and Bounty Hunters will both pay flat rates for Combat Trained heavy warhorses. Same terms as above.

Robert Tyrell will also offer base prices for the Combat Trained Heavy War Horses – but hopes to transship them north to Oleg’s – as they very little cavalry for border patrols. Tyrell will send letters to Oleg to instruct him to pay for the horses out of the coin up north. You'll have the full money from Tyrell 2 weeks after you send the horses north; just as soon as he can get it from Oleg and send it south.

Neither he nor Sylvath care who else you sell the horses to.

4. Regarding Regular Horses: The following organizations offer to buy horses for same terms as above. Bounty Hunters, Tyrell – via Oleg’s town up north. Add to that list Grishnak Black Marketeer – who wishes to purchase riding horses for the transport of goods for his people, provided you sell them just to him.

In addition to that – Allen Harper Bard/journalist expresses a desire to buy as many light horses as you will allow – for the transshipment of information between towns. He doesn’t care if you sell them to anyone else.

Deville Casino Operator also wishes to buy pack horses for the ability to import goods and services for his casino with some ease. He does not care who else you sell the horses to.

The Osirions have a desire to buy the regular horses – for the same reasons that Harper and DeVille mentioned – the easy shipment of goods. They don’t care if you sell to anyone else.

5. Regarding laudanum: Selendria, after discovering the allotment of laudanum will offer to do the following; she wishes to sell the laudanum herself, but only through specific needs of the people. She suggests keeping it in the vault – and only selling it people who have a genuine need for the drug for actual medical reasons.

She is further impressed by the statements of Ulirc Stevon - Bounty Hunter and political agitator - who has advocated the idea of purchasing legal licenses from the State – at cost to an individual – should allow the citizens who purchase such rights to have access to some sort of Vote on laws for the land, and a representative on the Council which would speak for a newly constructed Guild.

Selendria is eager to create a Guild specifically dedicated to “Healing” – allowing any religion not banned by the State to join – and include Alchemists, Spellcasters of any sort – and anyone with a knowledge for Healing.

If the Council agrees to her terms, she will monitor the sale of laudanum to the citizens – she will make sure it is not sold illegally – and she will pay the State for the privilege of creating the practice – and even believes that the State should have a right to expect “taxes” from the sale of such more potent drugs. However – she is also saying these rights and privileges the State gains must be moderated by allowing a voice on the Council – and she is now recommending creating a Healers Guild – though she is very polite about it, and is recommending this as courteously as possible, she thinks it would be good for the community in the long run.

By coincidence – you hear that Hester Goodwyfe also supports the idea of a Healers Guild – but according to Colleen Rourke – this is mainly because Hester hopes to become “In Charge” of the Guild herself. However, Colleen will inform Ariarh that even if Hester doesn’t have any formal power on the Guild – her support will be large, and noticeable – but something to consider, because Hester can motivate a lot of support for the Guild, and make sure the people are really well controlled and not behaving badly or illegally at all. Selendria does not have such an extensive ability to monitor for illegal action, but she is far more open and upfront then Hester. So if you choose the Guild, Hester will run it with a firmer hand - but Selendria will generally be more reasonable with the Council. This assumes you elect to allow such a guild, of course.

Grishnak, DeVille, and the Osirions will also offer to buy the laudanum. However – they have certain caveats that are somewhat different.

The Osirions will pay – up front – full Black Market price, no questions asked – for the full amount of the laudanum.

Grishnak will pay – up front – full Black Market price for the laudanum, with the understanding that you sell it to no one but him – and only he is allowed to sell it in town.

DeVille will pay – up front – full Black Market price for the laudanum as well. However – he does make a cogent statement about such purchases/sales. Namely – he feels that if his Casino sells the laudanum it will be better for business and therefore taxes – he also reminds you that people who succumb to the “sleeping drug” are generally stable cliental who tend to be non-violent, as the drug makes them act very mellow and generally “zoned out”. He adds that though he has no interest in joining a “healers guild” – having license to sell any addictive substance should be mandated and sold via the State. He further recommends you add to the list of substances that the State should control – even if you don’t sell him the laudanum – tobacco, alcohol – pesh – tea/coffee, and any other substance that is discovered to be “addictive” – whether or not it is actually “harmful”. He suggests that any business that provides addictive substances does so only to “biologically blackmail the cliental into being forced to come back” – he says if the State is going to allow the selling of a substance that causes the citizens to have to come back – logically the State should make sure that only “proper licensed individuals” can sell these things; claiming the sale of such things, even coffee/tea – is not unlike alchemy or magic to manipulate or compel another person to keep coming back. He says that’s how business works – but believes that no one should be able to have that power over someone’s body – without permission from the State.

He cheerfully points out he has already purchased a year long license for such things – which would include alcohol, tobacco and so on – excluding other harder substances if the State deems them outright illegal, such as Pesh, and also reminds you his license is over at the end of they year.

DeVille is clearly operating out of selfish motives – but, his point is very reasonable. If you allow anyone to sell any chemically addictive substance – it should be someone that the government trusts not to abuse that privilege – he adds – ”You certainly don’t need fine folk like Mister Grishnak getting our lovely citizens hooked on a substance – then, when they have no control over themselves – raising the price? He could do it – we wouldn’t – because you could monitor us and shut us down if we fail to obey the law. But, if another person sold illegally – well… Then throw them in jail! That would put quite a number of disreputable folks out of your hair – and the licenses would earn you quick coin – for myself, I paid 20,000 gold out of pocket to Mister Winter – before he left – though my services are broader then most. Still – every tavern, every bar – every place who wants to sell such items – if they want to – let them pay for a license – and even if they have the coin – tell them “We won’t let you sell it at all” – if you think they are not good businessmen, or good people.”

Again – he’s being slick – but he does have a point – and will offer to buy the laudanum with the conditions he mentioned.

6. Regarding the raw Opium: Only Grishnak, the Osirions and DeVille have the money to offer you the coin. They will offer it – with the same terms as above. Of course – they will pay full “Black Market Price” – if you are willing to sell to them.

Selendria herself will make one suggestion – keep the opium in storage – you can use it produce more laudanum in the future, if you decide to sell the chemical to healers. You don’t have to sell it right away, though.

Remember – if you do not want to share information with the town – as in – you don’t mind telling the town you found horses, but say nothing about the armor and weapons, that’s fine – then just disregard any of the comments about the armor and weapons. The same applies to all the other stuff. Again – for ease sake – no NPC will mention the stuff you found outside the “Council Chambers” – this is all pretty much up to you guys what you do with what you found. I tried to give you as many reasonable options as I could – with some potential social RP down the road, too. Hope you like it!

Arsinian writes his report of on the status of the hunters. He doesn't add much commentary beyond the facts that are presented here, and the basic assessment of their motives as likely actions, and presents the report to the council as soon as they arrive.

Between the last two bits of "loot income" I have no idea what Shaezon should have. It's gotten a bit convoluted for me. If possible could you just dumb it down and give me a number please. I can work with a number. Please and thank you. Frankly, Shae doesn't really care about the details so long as he's treated fairly and equitably. He might double check to be sure he's not being cheated, but I (the player) won't.

In council chambers, Kae wants to bring Clari along. She's not likely to interrupt as it is council business, but he'd like to have here there. He's been away a while, and has yet to see how she's faired, and wants to acclimate her to this area and such... So unless anyone objects, she's there.

Kae's votes:
1: Armor: Sell it to Sylvath. Our Peace-keeping force needs to be strong and well equipped to protect us, etc. And we'll get our cash eventually. We'll give the Mul his cash up front.

2: Weapons: Bounty Hunters. only ones who offered, may as well equip our employees. And Arsinian can't use a +3 bow cause he only has 14 str... sad times...

3: Combat Horses: I like the idea of selling them to Oleg's city, so they have a slightly better cavalry

4: Regular Horses: There's 6 of em, if Harper wants all of them, I like building Infrastructure. Kae would want to sell a couple to Grishnak, but it seems Grish wants all 6, and I doubt that the council wants to sell all of them to him, so Harper is the next choice. Don't want to sell them to Deville or the Osirons.

5: Laudinm: Set us a healer's guild and sell it to them for medicine. More to come about guilds later

6: Opium: How much laudinm can we make with the 320 oz of opium? I like the idea of keeping it in the vault to make more laudinum later. I'd say the amount Khromm get is based on making it into Laudinum, and selling that, unless the price is lower, in which case we pay him based on the open market value of the raw opium, whichever rate is better.

Guilds
I like the idea of having chartered guild sorts of organizations. Those who have to pay for licenses can band together under a single umbrella and have some sort of voice in the council chambers. So we would have the Hunters, the Healers, the Merchants, others may crop up that need to be unionized, but those three for now work to me.

Merchants would be people like DeVille, and Grishnak, and brewers and such.

I like Deville's idea of selling licenses for controlled substances, and the holders of them could be part of the merchant's guild.

Grishnak
Grishnak was the one that told us about this shipment. He's useful in that regard, and Kae feels that he has the potential to keep any sort of black-marketing in check. It's going to happen, unless we create some kind of Utopia, and I'm less than confident that that'll happen even if we try, so Grish keeps the Underworld in check and he's a known figure. It's not like we're going to have to be watching our backs. we just work with him, and he's the only real problem that we have to deal with. All we have to do is intervene if there's violence, and Grish would be clever enough not to actually reek any havoc, so we won't have to give him trouble for anything.

To make this work, tho, I'm thinking that we go with DeVille/Alaric's licensing idea, and give Grish a set of licences. That way we keep him happy, feeding us valuable information, and basically paying him on credit for Intel. We let him keep his licenses and he gives us information. Even if we pay him some coin for what he tells us, We make the deal so it's cheaper to pay him in licenses, and he gets to operate as the Only "black marketeer" while DeVille only serves really high-end clientele.

Hunters
The hunters seem to be all about self-regulation. The guild responsibility is make sure there are no vigilanties. They get bounties, can only use lethal force on a "Dead or Alive" bounty, otherwise they capture the targets.

I like Ulric, He seems to be mainly concerned with Justice, and protecting the people from the state, so it is the guild/his job to make sure the Hunters don't violate the rights of the people, and are honest and good. If they keep themselves in line, then the state has no reason to intervene in their affairs.

Argyle seems to combative for my tastes, so if we can throw our support behind Ulric's faction and increase his power-base with more contracts and such, we can maintain a peace. Then we just have to keep Argyle happy with fair pay and non-interference, everybody gets what they want!

So that's Kae's input.
While we're at it, Kae wants to build a garrison this month if we have the BP for it. but that's really a matter for later...

No problem. For simplicity - I shall include you in the "20%" of the party loot - after Khromm's 10% is taken - however, this only means you will get more then Khromm - even though his "10%" comes off the top - your 20% still trumps his.

But I can't give you that detail until I know if the party wants to get rid of nothing, get rid of just the opium, or get rid of the opium and laudenum. As soon as the Council decides what they will formally claim - I'll give you each your flat rate.

To all, then -

Once I know what the Council decides, formally, about the opiates - you'll know how much coin each of you will get.

For simplicity - each one of the Player Characters will get 20%. That's pretty much it - if someone like Shaezon wants to share that with Galen - he's free to. If someone like Kae wants to transfer some of his money into the State's treasury - he's welcome to. If someone like Arasmes wants to keep a Masterwork Scimitar instead of flat coin - the cost of the scimitar is swapped out for coin.

I just need to know what the Council decides on the opiate to decide what is the total gold to work with.

When I know that - I'll give you the answer.

Excellent input Kae - nicely done! Looking forward to the others, soon.

Questions 1-5 Sounds good so far - Brett will not debate any of those ideas.

Question 6: 1 ounce equals 1 bottle of laudanum, for simplicity's sake.

Guilds: Brett likes the idea, but foresees, in time - probably having to keep an eye peeled for both Religion and Magic user Guilds down the line. He also recommends - possibly - including into "Healers" - any practice that is not specifically related to magic - but is helpful. So, for example - in addition to healers in the group, he wouldn't mind seeing the same group having to monitor poisons, toxins, alchemical potions and elixirs (Tangelfoot bags, sunrods, and possibly Black Powder) - basically this would give you a formal guild for any person with skill in town who can help the community using non-magical means; so alchemists and - potentially - gunslingers and anyone with skills like that could have a place and method to make things work; he still thinks Selendria is an excellent choice, as she is already a 3rd level Alchemist - at the least.... (she may have leveled, but you won't know that until you finish book 2).

In any case, Brett will bow to the will of the Council.

Grishnak: Brett is not fond of Grishnak, and does not trust the half-orc whatsoever. On the other hand, he makes this statement -

"Well, sir - I'm not an idealist. I know a lot of things that people do are far from decent, but that's between them and the gods… So in this land, I will tolerate ONE den of thieves, because that is the nature of things. A certain amount of corruption is inevitable in any country. But more then that? Well, that’s going too far. So long as things stay reasonable, I’ll settle with realistic, not idealistic."

Brett also agrees that if you have one criminal organization in the city - well, better then the devil you know then the DeVille you don't know... He then grins, hoping everyone got his clever pun.

Hunters: Brett likes your idea on the hunters a lot - but he does add one word of note; the concept of limiting them to forced capture is not always realistic. Accidents happen, and trying to take someone back to Justice can quickly turn into a "Kill or be killed" situation. He recommends amending your suggestion to eliminate the bounty - or, at the least, mitigate the majority of the bounty - if a person is wanted alive, and is brought back dead. He feels this will keep the dishonest folk who would otherwise ride out and just kill people from getting too "trigger happy". If a Bounty Hunter kills a target he shouldn't have - he better have a good reason, but that would be almost impossible to prove. Tell the Hunter they won't get any money for bringing back a corpse (on certain occasions, that is) - and he feels that will squash any crazy people who are more of assassins then legitimate hunters.

Oh! Brett also adds that if such behavior happens, a Hunter can lose their license - but the issue would have to be properly examined. After all - if you try to ambush an enemy, capture them and take them alive - well, the next thing you know they may decide to go crazy so the Hunter is forced to kill all the enemy, and quickly!

FYI: Brett likes Ulric better, too - but feels that Ulric will probably be agitating more for the people, but, if Argyle gets to be in charge, you can probably get rid of any problem he has pretty quickly by simply bribing him, rather then actually doing what he is arguing for.

Garrison: That will largely depend on how much BP you get this month. He's totally cool with it - mainly because of the troubles in the swamp. Luckily - since the walls have been fortified - there has not been any trouble in the past several days.

Brett's final word: He recommends expanding the Council at this time. Putting some people on the Council could be useful. If not now - then, possibly when you get back from the south.

Regarding Loot: So far I have one vote for what to do with the loot - if all the raw Opium is converted to the Laudanum- and the Laudanum sold - you will be able to collect the value of Open Market Laudenum - plus 320 doses - for 520 doses, for a total of 26,000 GP (open market value of the laudanum). This assumes that everyone agrees with Kae about selling the laudanum to Selendria and constituting a Healer/Alchemist guild). For now I need answers from Ariarh - and any votes for expanding the Council at this time.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh seconds the idea of expanding the Council as having only three (not including Oleg) councilmen can stretch their resources and stifle action etc. Put it to Council vote on who should be permitted on the Council.

When you say Osirions have the coin to buy the Opium do you mean the Cultist Hadad al-Kazeem? If that is the case, Ariarh would say "No, Never!"

Selendria would make the best choice to run the Healer's Guild and sell/administer the opiates for medicinal purposes. Hester Goodwyfe does not have the social graces nor the acumen to communicate and foster harmony. Plus, she is elitist ... She would not help the entire community. I would even go so far as to suggest Colleen Rourke be Selendria's second in charge. Ariarh is all for the Healer's Guild, well for any legitimate Guilds to be established and run properly.

Keep the laudanum in the vault and use it to make more.

Grishnak needs a tighter rein (and a muzzle). Ariarh does not like him nor trust him. She is upset that Kae has such faith (for lack of a better word) in the half orc. Sell Grishnak a license but he is told to shut his mouth and not give the townsfolk cause to distrust the Council or worry over his level of control or power within Saravale (or else the Council will deal with him). He is a crook and it is best the Council remember that.

In regard to the bounty hunters and their leader, Ry likes neither Ulric or Argyle (because even though they are opposites of the other, each have obvious, specific flaws and traps for the Council ...). I suppose for now I would rather the guy that wants to keep the Council honest ... *sigh* That would be Ulric Stevon.

The Council should solidify its relations with Duke Esserian and the Western Brevoy loyalty vote. We need allies as it seems the Southern enemy/ies are gunning for our land etc.

Good – so what I’m hearing is the following:

1. The creation of 2 guilds – and the allowance of each. Specifically – a Bounty Hunter Guild and a Healer/Alchemical Guild (Brett asked to amend the Healer Guild to any that can produce alchemical aids, healing or otherwise).

Each Guild will be working diligently on what they want to see for the Council – and from the Council – and have proposals set up by the time you reach level 7 – at which point you can levy an appropriate licensing tax on them, if you think that’s a good idea.

A possible third guild for Merchants is being kicked around – but so far no merchants have stepped up to speak on the idea yet.

2. Brett seconds Ariarh’s idea about getting the Duke to be formally allied to the Council – and is currently preparing a binding agreement between the Duke and you guys. It should be ready to look over when you hit level 7.

3. There is some debate on bumping new members up into the positions on the Council. Hopefully, after seeing the value of the new people – the Council can decide who they formally want to include, and in what capacity. No doubt you’ll have that all figured out after you return from the trip south, and at which point you’ll have (coincidently) hit level 7.

4. Brett recommends heading south, and possibly exploring the lands down there formally – he has a hunch that could be useful. Though I am not sure what the Council will vote on, if they agree to Brett’s plan, and complete the mission to the south – it is likely that they will return and be on level 7.

5. Well; that’s pretty much it – oh! Except, if you decide to travel south and actually explore that area as a team and return, chances are very good you’ll hit level 7 and we can advance – so, just tossing that out there…

Hey – someone wake up Shaezon! It’s about money!

Okay – here is what is now going to happen, via Council discussion – and the [ooc]Distribution of Loot[/b].

Let’s deal with the money, first.

Your total loot you can make right now is 11,971 (minus opiates) – let’s round that up to 12,000 gold pieces. Khromm takes his 10% off the top – giving you all 10,800 gold pieces to split up.

As of right now, you each have 2,160 gold pieces.

Now – the opiates.

Your plan is to sell the laudanum – and from that make money. You have (theoretically) 520 doses of laudanum – provided you convert all the opium into laudanum and sell it all right now. That won’t happen, you can’t do that so quickly.

Here is what’s GOING to happen instead.

The value of the 520 doses on open market is a total of 26,000 gold pieces. Khromm takes his 2,600 for his 10% - leaving you all a total of 23,400 gold pieces. You will then divide this number by 5 – each of you will be getting 4,680 gold pieces.

However – this extra figure has to be spread out some – specifically over time. Selendria will not be able to sell that much opium – it will take her about 1 year to sell it all (realistically).

What this means for you then…

Right now you will each be getting 2,160 gold pieces PLUS an additional 390 gold pieces a month, every month – for a year. So, at the end of each “month” – you’ll have at least 390 gold pieces coming from Selendria’s shop. That extra 390 kicks in at the end of the month, not the beginning. By then you should be on level 7.

If that is the case – no worries – because it won’t matter – since between level 6 and 7 you have a whole year of down time (that is to say, when you hit level 7, you should be done with book 2, and then you can have the gold for the opiates then).

So – to be clear about the gold: Everyone on the mission gets 2,160 gold pieces – at the end of the month, and every month for a year – you’ll get an additional 390 gold pieces to spend.

Everyone on the mission formally includes – Arasmes, Isani, Kae, Laz, and Shaezon. It should be noted that the NPC’s (Galen, Arsinian, and so on) need to be paid for “out of pocket” by the respective bosses, if at all. Khromm is already taken care of.

Please let me know if there are any questions about the loot. Thanks!

F Elf Spellbinder Conjuration (teleport) Wiz 1

Money? *ears perk up* What is this "money" of which you speak?

F Elf Spellbinder Conjuration (teleport) Wiz 1

Oh, also we/I never got paid for the previous adventure. We had to ran off to the drug shipment so fast nothing got distributed.

The money...

Yeah, that's the loot you just got on this adventure.

However - if I may make a suggestion?

Currently your town is lacking in most departments for places to buy anything useful.

You have no magic shop, no temples, no churches, potion shop, no weaponsmith. You do have an armor shop - but getting new armor made would take a bit of time - via crafting rules.

You can either buy very basic mundane gear (I mean very basic) out of your own shops - or you can try to buy from a business an NPC set up - but, they will probably charge you more - after all, you're rich; you're good for it!

I would recommend that you probably just hold on to the loot now, unless you got your eye on something special. The reason is - during the theoretical hiatus when you have reached level 7 (which happens after you guys actually leave town as a team and head south) - you'll be earning BP for your town every month - the town will be growing and expanding, and - by the end of the "Year" - you'll probably have lots of good places to buy your new gear from, as well as some extra money just from your month-to-month savings via profession roles, and other such things.

No point is blowing it all now before you head south.

Of course - I should add when you DO go south - it will be a little challenging. All the easy cake-walk fights are going away - this will take some teamwork and some ingenuity to get it done.

I figure if anyone actually dies on the trip south - well - in between books is a great time make a new character. So - you know - this journey will be a bit challenging is all, as opposed to the others.

Okay - as for how much money your character DID have - I am not entirely sure. The fact is, I try having people sending me their character sheets on a Word document, so I can read the sheet, and update it as needed when needed - so I have a record of what is going on. Of course - you probably are doing this too, with your character icon on the boards - but there are thousands of posts to read through - and it's kind of hard for me to remember what your character has in terms of gold right now.

I'll do a little looking around - but, again - this assumes you have anything to buy right now.

I also recommend taking Isani AND Ariarh this time out - because they both can heal - healing magic is probably going to be very helpful.

F Elf Spellbinder Conjuration (teleport) Wiz 1

last adventure we never distributed loot because it had to be sold etc. I plan to save most loot, but I need to pay Galen, get my shop up and running, etc. that's why I've been *ahem* let's say persistent. Not mere greed.

No worries, man. For now - just toss it all in the pot, as it were.

You aren't going to get a shop set up in the next few days - but take some time out of game, come up with a basic plan on how you want your shop/school to be designed, toss me an email to that effect - and say that you left the details for the architects/design team in town when you're abroad.

They'll start work on it this month - and finish it in a few months - most likely when/if you guys ever get to level 7.

Speaking of which - is anyone actually planning on doing something toward that end? I mean, packing, coordinating the team - getting the mission in gear? Just let me know...

FYI - Yeah, don't worry about Galen - he's certainly not the type of guy who forgets about money - nor is he the kind of guy who forgets specific things like how much you owe him - right down to the copper piece. If you don't have the correct figures set up for him - he'll let you know, with only a modest fine for any discrepancies... ;)

Were the Ustalavians going to reply to Ariarh? You mentioned a few days ago that they would, so I was wondering ... :)

Ariarh Kane wrote:

Yikes - sorry about that. Actually - funny you mention that - it appears that Gragakh was looking for you!

I think this was in reference to you talking to the Ustalavians about a good spy - which you believe Gragakh to be - hence these details. The Ustalavians will be able to share the opinion on the subject, but I have to toss that up tomorrow.

In the time the party was gone Gragakh had tracked down Tyrell - and, from there, would have told Tyrell specifically that he had information he wanted to pass on to you - but would have waited for Tyrell's go-ahead before he passed any information to anyone, other then his boss - Tyrell.

Of course - as soon as Tyrell hears what Gragakh has to tell him - he instantly informs you and asks that you come to interview Gragakh specifically in private - he indicates it would also be good to bring Anuk-su, and offers to sit in on the interview to help "warm up" Gragakh and help with the interview, but only if you like. He strongly cautions privacy for the interview, based on what he has heard.

Naturally - you find the information to be very useful and extremely valuable.

Good times!

Sorry - I'll toss up the details soon - pretty tired now and I need to crash - just let me know if you'd like to do the interview with Gragakh alone - with Tyrell around - and if you want to bring Anuk-su or prevent her from coming. When I know more - you'll know more...

Ariarh will bring Anuk-su into the interview with Gragakh. Ariarh will be conducting the interview and occasionally throwing questions or asking opinions of her young ward (who has been instructed to remain quiet otherwise). She will ask Robert Tyrell to remain present in the meeting as the goblin spy is his man and it will make the interview go smoother.

Will the meeting with Gragakh be conducted up in the fortress or have Robert and Gragakh ridden down to Ariarh's apartments in town?

Hey dude – are you still planning on playing? The entire party is about to go south for a pretty epic adventure, and likely they’ll want you to come, too.

If that was my friend dave I think no. He said he told you, but I don't know where.

To Ariarh

Upon hearing Gragakh’s basic information – and request – Tyrell will insist that you have the meeting in private, in the fortress, in private Council. Of course – by “insist” I don’t mean he’s telling you what to do, but only that he feels this is the best plan. Tyrell has sent a private messenger, the message itself is clearly from him – but it is somewhat cryptic – you have a hunch he did not want to come himself and potentially arouse suspicion, nor did he want to risk having the message/summons captured by accident, hence the cryptic style of the letter. The escort who is there is a guard, but fairly large and burly – one of Sylvath’s new recruits – Thomas “Tom” Fletcher - a former member of the late Sir Bronwyn Winter’s entourage – this man is now a recruit under Sylvath and you understand that he is a Level 1 Paladin at this time. He’s definitely trustworthy – tough, and incognito. The entire nature of this message is very unusual – but clearly very important. As for the date and time it occurs – you would have known about the very day before your companions came back. Therefore, even though you didn’t know Arasmes and Isani and Kae were coming back tomorrow – any plans you make TODAY would happen “Tomorrow” – at the same time everyone else shows up. In other words - any plans you make about what you hear from the interview - they will be executed on the very day your friends return, because that is the very day after you hear the details.

The following are the details between Tyrell, Gragakh, and Anuk-su (I should add that Dasha is present during the interview, though she says nothing, and seems content to function mainly as moral support for Robert, but is available if you want to question her, too. Robert Tyrell and Gragakh trust her completely, however – and the man outside the door as guard is currently the same Tom Fletcher. You have complete privacy for these details – they will now share everything – Anuk-su will offer her opinions – and you are then free to offer all questions. No need for any rolls – anything you say they will answer to the best of their ability.

Details for interview:

You are quickly ushered into the chamber. The doors are shut behind you. You see that some food has been prepared and laid out for you, and that Robert is sitting in his chair, Dasha standing somewhat behind him, watching you all. Gragakh is sitting near Robert, eating some meat with a lusty abandon. Despite this, however – his face is grim, as is the faces of Robert and Dasha.

Seeing you and Anuk-su, he rises and bows, while Gragakh continues to munch, and Dasha says nothing, merely watching you and Anuk-su.

Not sure if Dior is there, too – of course – he can be, but that’s up to you.

”Lady – welcome. There is some troubling news I heard, and I wanted to speak to you directly. Apologies for all the subterfuge, but after hearing the details – I am not sure what to trust – nor whom to trust,” he says, somewhat ominously.

"Gragakh has told me news, and I felt it best to hear it as soon as possible. Gragakh – proceed,” he says, turning to the goblin, who nods, belches, and throws the scraps of meat on a plate. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand – he begins.

”I be in town few days – Chief says I need to be watching things – watching for tricksy folk – I listen good and watch good, and see very bad things,” Gragakh says, beginning his tale.

”Few nights ago I walk dark streets – cool from bright sun, I come by houses of little hairfoot family –“

”He means the Halfling family – the Banks’s,” Tyrell says by way of explanation.

”Aye – hairfoot – Banks, I not forget Chief,” he says with a nod, then continues.

”I see man in dark alley – he not see me, though. I watch him for a while – think he may be watching little Banks family – think he may be drunk, but he too awake – his eyes watching streets. I see he not watch Banks house though – he be watching house across street.”

”House across street – I don’t know who house – but he watch all night, he awake, sometime pretend to sleep – sometimes pretend to beg for food – but no too much – very quiet like – no attention – always watch house.”

”In morning, I see he gone, so I look at house – it be your house,” he says, pointing to Ariarh.

”I think – this be bad – but maybe, only one bad, watch to be sure. So – next night I watch spot – I don’t see him, but I move a bit – look all around house – see new man this time – don’t see him night before – don’t recognize – but he be doing same thing. He watch house – he watch all night, I watch him – morning comes, he leave.”

Gragakh takes a drink, and though this is somewhat disturbing, it is not overly intimidating and you wonder on Robert’s desire for such secrecy. Even so – he gestures for Gragakh to continue – and the goblin does.

”Next night I see two men – one on either side of house – but then – very early – near to rise of bright sun – I see new man come – he move to first man, talk quiet-like with him – can’t hear words – then first man leaves. He does same to second man – second man leaves – I think new man maybe see me – but he do nothing – then he leave too. But before men leave at sun wake – this night they leave in very dark night – when night be dark and coolest on skin – they all three leave. Think maybe man saw me – but he did not say anything, and he left, so I say nothing, but hide and wait.”

”Last night I move to wait again – to see what happens. I wait and hide – hide very good – sure no one saw me. I see no men – not either side of house – but I wait, maybe they late? Maybe new men tell other men not to watch – I don’t know, but I wait; hide very good, though.”

”When it be darkest time – like night before, I hear noise – I be very good at hiding, but it don’t matter – because I think they know where I hide – they come to find me. I see from alley suddenly running at me two men, in different places – and I know they see me – so I run.”

”I run down street so they can’t catch me - but they coming fast – I see steel in hand – so I hide quick, pull out my steel, and when they come, I cut first bad – but he not cry out – only grunt – try to cut me – but miss – other man come with steel – he try too cut me too – he cut good – I bleed – get angry – very angry – rage at men – kill man dead, and be fighting other – but all time no noise – very quiet – I yell for help – then I hear nothing from my mouth – my mouth makes no noise,” he says.

”I believe it was a spell – oh, apologies – please continue,” Tyrell says quickly.

”Aye, Chief!” Gragakh says, taking a draught of something red, and what you hope is wine…

”Other man be fighting better – very hard – we fight at each other – he close to winning, but I cut him deep – then, behind me new man come – I don’t see him – I smell him, though – not man, something else, I think. I turn, now be trapped between two men. One with steel other with dark spells.”

”New one make bright fire from hand – burn me – burn his friend – he don’t care – we both be burned – man with steel look like he scream – but I hear no words – I roar – but hear no noise. I be cut bad – bleed bad – dead soon, I think – but I think “Been like this before – die now, maybe – but kill this slub-gob! make him bleed – make him food for worms, eh?”

Dasha sighs at the description and Gragakh winces – the proceeds.

”Then – I be in bad trouble – skin be burned, body bleed – and this man be laughing at me – he smell bad – not like human – like something else – and then I knew I be dead because he come to me; spits on face – eyes burn, can’t see good, fall on ground – like blind, only see little bit; but I can hear good. Hear new man stand over me, new man that not man. He whisper some – magic go away, I guess – I can hear – but too weak even to yell.”

”Then – when I think everything be dead – I smell new smell – not know smell either, not at first. I look up – but can’t see good – eyes burn from what he spit. Blooding out of belly – arm is covered with burns from bright fire – I see only two in dark – new man come – but not smell like man-flesh either – don’t know what it was, but looked like man.”

”Bad man turned to see new man – I see new man not talk, not move – just stand like stone. Bad man make more bright fire – but new man not burned, or not act like burned, I think. Then bad man spit – I think spit – I don’t know – can’t see good – but new man, moved, very fast move – then I see new man fight bad man with hand and foot – very fast, very quick – not sure what I see – but new man kill bad man fast – with only hand and foot – I hear new man say something – not know words – but I hear now – I remember them – not forget them – but I don’t know word meaning – I tell Chief Drake – and he not know – his woman know – she said we best get you and silver girl who not girl here,” Gragakh says pointing to Anuk-su as he keeps talking to Ariarh.

”Then I think all finish – dead soon – new man kill me sure – take my loot – ogre tooth necklace very fine – he take for sure! But new man not take – he come to me – he come very close – not sure at smell – very strong now – very strong. I know smell – but head hurt can’t remember. He say nothing though, turn me on back, I think he look at me – but I can’t see good, eyes still hurt.”

”He take something from robe, I think – put in my mouth – make me drink – it be magic – good magic, though – make me heal fast. Feel burns stop burning, skin at belly is close good, blood stop spilling out. I can see good – I see him maybe – but still a little dark – but before I get good look, he puts hand on face – and says something – then I fall asleep.”

”When I wake in morning, I got all my stuff – nothing be taken. I got fresh rag on belly – he not use good goblin medicine with urine to kill worms – his medicine on belly smell strange – but I know smell too, or close to it. Nose very good – I remember much from smells.”

”I be laying near house – I think house – but not house. It new building – not finished yet – very early – sun only come up. New building still be worked on – but I don’t see it right – then I know building, and I remember smells – and I remember words, too. So I come to Chief and tell him all – he says wait here – stay secret – be tricksy – wait to share news. When news be shared – then make good plan – but no one knows who more bad men are – I went by place they be killed – bodies all gone – no bodies at all – no blood at all – only nose to remember what eyes don’t see – and no blood left.”

He takes another draught of wine, and you are clear that Anuk-su has grown somewhat impatient, even if she is interested in the details.

”Very well – thou speaketh in riddles and circles! Pray – come to thy point. Thy dallied about three instances of clarification – I would know more! Thy say thy had heard strange words – what were these words? And if the lady Dasha knows them – what was the language? Also – thy have said thy certainly smelled things with thy nose – verily I say to you – enlarge on that subject before the world ends, if it is important! Finally – where at the least was this building thy awoke at – if you found no bodies in the morning – surely thy would know that building!’

Gragakh looks a bit ruffled at these words, but at a glance from his “Chief” – he grunts, mutters a few choice words in goblin, then nods and speaks.

”I wake first place in building not finished. It be like temple – only very small – make place to new god, they say. God be called “Apsu” – they say. I wake before anyone see me, though.”

”A very odd point,” Tyrell says, interrupting quickly ”for this same unfinished shrine– the one that had mysterious donations – well, after the donations Sir Sylvath put a watch on the shrine – to make sure the construction was unmolested by any vandals or dangerous folk – for though he appreciated the donation – and its good faith – he seemed very suspicious of such a sum of wealth – and wanted to make sure that no other anonymous person would stray too near the place, without his men seeing the person and finding out where another donation came from.”

”It seems Sir Sylvath is not fond of charity – believing good folk should work for their bread, even if they may be charitable themselves to others less fortunate. The point is – the unfinished shrine was under guard – but Gragakh was inside the building when he woke up – I questioned the guards – they saw nothing, and Sir Sylvath demands vigilance! Whoever carried or magically moved a goblin inside the shrine – they got him past the guards – without either Gragakh – or the person – being noticed.”

Anuk-su’s eyes narrow at this, and she rubs her soft chin, looking over at Dasha – who’s dark eyes stare off somewhat vaguely in the distance, even as she leans gently against Tyrells chair.

”Aye – a strange thing indeed – yet I am now thinking that the true mystery is best solved with the one faculty thy assuredly mentioned over and anon! Speak then – and enlarge us on the power of thy olfactory sense!”

Gragakh turns a confused look at Anuk-su who rolls her eyes somewhat.

”Tell us what thou smelled!” she adds, somewhat huffily, as Gragakh’s eyes widen in sudden understanding.

”Speak plainer silver hair! I not know big speech,” he says sourly, but then proceeds.

”I smell many things that night – many things I not remember – but then remember later. Sometime smell be better then eyes – help remember better then eyes they say. I smell new things that night, and old – some things I not know till after – some things I not know still.”

Seeing a look from Anuk-su, and a somewhat less severe but similar look from Tyrell – he quickly plows on.

”Of smells I not know – first two smells come from new bad man. Other two smell like man-flesh certain – but third man – one I see two nights ago – and last night – one who use magic to make bright fire to burn Gragakh – he smell different. He smell not like man-flesh – not elf, or dwarf – not any smell I smell before. He smell more like… like… ah! He smell of many things – first smell be clear, I smell it sometimes before – not know it – smell like plant that is smoke for making nice dreams,” he says.

”What plant do thy speak of? Is it hemp?” Anuk-su says, somewhat confused at this word.

”After some long words with him – I believe the plant he speaks of is called the poppy. Some of our new citizens carry it, sell it – and, I hear – they smoke it too. It is becoming somewhat popular – and though, to my knowledge – the only ill effect is that the person who uses it becomes weak and sleepy – their skin yellowing with time – I am not pleased with the drug. I do not know the plans of the government – but, if my opinion mattered – I would ban such a thing outright – or at least restrict its use – once a person becomes addicted to a substance – the seller can raise the price to huge sums – forcing the buyer to go to great lengths to get the money. This is a deadly recipe for crime – but yes; we think the spell caster who attacked Gragakh had, at the least – the smells of poppy on him – most likely from opium pipes.”

Gragakh belches again, takes another drink, then continues.

”Yes, yes – poppy plant. Not hemp – he not be sailor – they use hemp for rope and such – this be used for nice dreams – dreams of little rabbits – Gragakh tried before – but Chief made me not try anymore – Chief says “not do” – so, I not do – but I miss pretty dreams.”

”Fine! It was then the poppy – but, what else? You mentioned other things,” Anuk-su adds impatiently.

”Ah – yes. He had other smells on him, too. His robes stank of that – but, no man-flesh – underneath he smell – he smell like animal. I know animal in home – like snake – he smell like snake – and when he spit on Gragakh’s eyes – his spit smelled like very strong snake – very strong! Smelled just like snake – but he be man-like!”

”Not a kobold, then?” Anuk-su says tentatively.

”No – not kobold! I say no smell I smell before! I smell kobold before – I eat kobold before – no, not kobold,” he adds, somewhat sadly, as Anuk-su grimaces at the thought of eating a distant cousin to the dragon kind.

”Very well – thou spoke of things that thy can recall! Enlarge on them – what did thy smell that thou art certain of?” she snaps.

”Two things – when I wake I smell cloth on belly. My people be smart – not think so – but we are. When we get cut – we put rag in piss pot – but only after piss be like wine. We not drink – but piss turns after while – very strong smell – but it clean very good. Clean wound very good!”

Ariarh – your knowledge of Healing would instantly alert you to the fact that Gragakh’s people are actually using a base of ammonia – by fermenting urine; or leaving it until the excess moisture is largely evaporated – the remaining acid compound produced by the kidney’s is, in fact the same chemical used in ammonia for cleaning – it seems his people created ammonia from fermenting urine – and used it clean wounds! Not exactly the best substance to clean a bleeding wound – but then again – goblins have rather unconventional methods of healing.

”But this stuff not like goblin medicine – not like human medicine either – not know smell at first – but then I know smell – I remember smell at meal. Same smell as what you drink!” he says, pointing at Ariarh.

”You put roots in hot water – make water hot – then drink water – smell same – like that,” he adds.

”We believe the cloth may have been steeped in tea, but we’re not sure – and we don’t know why,” Robert says with a somewhat helpless shrug.

Ariarh – again – your healing knowledge would clue you in, here – at the least putting rags in boiling water would kill any things that would cause disease – and it may be that some teas have natural medicinal properties – though you cannot recall anyone using tea in such a manner before.

Anuk-su looks puzzled here, and interrupts.

”Well – what of the words that thy heard spoke? Thou hast said thy did not know the meaning, but the lady here did so assuredly – what of those words?”

”Ah – words! I not know – but I say them exact to Chief – he tell woman – she know! Say the words be… “

Tyrell interrupts.

”The words were - Not in my city! - or some approximation of them. However – the words spoken were in draconic,” he adds, glancing at Anuk-su.

After hearing this – I sent for you, Councilwoman – I knew that someone needed to tell you that your house was being watched – and you may have assassins watching you even now – with so many potential spies afoot – and not know who to trust – especially when magic may be involved – I thought it best to bring you here directly and speak to you personally, privately, and without any chance of observation. Now that you have the details – and are aware of these strange things – please tell me what you think should be done next.”

”Indeed! Many strange things are afoot – aye! And this not the least,” she says speaking with barely controlled excitement at the mention of the words spoken in her native tongue.

”Yet – as this is the full extent of thy knowledge” Anuk-su continues ”we must now endeavor to put these clues together and…”

NO – no – not all clues! One more clue – I smell night before – and again when I came to look for bodies – but saw none!”

Anuk-su sighs somewhat impatiently.

”Fine then – what was this other clue that thy smelled, then? What was it thy sniffed where the bodies fell and where this other figure was?”

Gragakh speaks emphatically – even though his suggestion seems to somewhat embarrass Tyrell. You have a hunch that Gragakh at least thought it was very important, even if Robert and Dasha thinks that the detail makes no sense, and is hardly worth mentioning.

”New man not smell like man-flesh either, no – but I know smell very good! Smell it good here, better then up northways,” he says, waving with his hand to what you believe to be the north.

”And – what is this fine smell that thy claim to have detected?” Anuk-su says – somewhat bored with the proceedings now.

”Pig dung! New man smell like pig dung!” he adds, as if this is the real case-cracker.

Tyrell sighs a bit, and Dasha says nothing – clearly they are a little embarrassed by this last detail – as, clearly – there is likely no relevance here whatsoever.

To all

You have now returned from your quest and are now in the conference chamber. You are now free to social RP any details. Of NPC’s the Council Chamber will formally include Anuk-su, Brett, Robert Tyrell and Dasha. Khromm is out enjoying the first cut of his loot – if you want anyone else in the Council Chambers – you are free to invite them. If you want to exclude an ALT character for brevity’s sake – you are free to. If you need or want any other NPC’s there – you can invite them, too.

I need you guys to start talking to each other, though. I can’t always have one-on-one conversations with each of you when we’re all in the same room.

Two other points of note –

While you are free to talk about anything you want at this meeting, there are two things I DEFINETELY need to know from everyone:

1. It is likely after this conversation you will be planning on going south to explore the lands there (At least – that is my absolute prayer at this point). If that happens, I need to know what your plans are for the south. What NPC’s you want to bring – what gear you want to take – and what you plan on having done with your stuff in your absence – so, for example – what would Kae leave as his standing orders for the troops – or what would Ariarh suggest for the town – what does Shaezon want to pack – what is Arasmes’s new plans for what he wants to do – that sort of thing.

2. You found some interesting stuff on the trail – what are you planning on doing with it? Specifically – The Crystal; the Dagger; the translations from the Ledger. I know your plans for the opiates at this time, and that is already being set in motion, though you can formally play it out when in council.

IF/WHEN you get back – you will see a formal list of what each new Guild wants from the State – you are free to agree/disagree with the proposals – and we can worry about that then.

The journey should take about 2 weeks minimum – of course, the last journey to the north was scheduled at 5 days – so, that took a while. If anyone has a character opt out of the journey south – they will not only not be leveling when the party returns, they will also not be participating, because I am not running two quests at the same time for a while; and I’ll need the combat thread open.

And, for fun – everyone who survives the trip south will gain 4 BP for their own potential barony, if they get one and 6,000 Bonus GP for their potential Barony, if they get one (if you elect to have a starting Business instead of a Barony the Bonus GP is only 2,000).

Remember – to actually start your own Barony – you will need to have the following, as already mentioned:

1. Formal member of the Council
2. Petition the Council for a “Hex on the map to Build” – the Hex must have 6 adjacent hexes that are not used by another Barony.
3. You must have in your “Bonus BP” reserve 30 BP (I am keeping track of the bonuses currently, as you may recall). On that track – many of you are getting “Bonus Coin” that can only be spent on your barony – to buy build points – and to pay your general staff, as you gain your own Baronial Council/Town Council.
4. You must be at least level 7.

Good Hunting!

Ah - thank you! I don't know where he told me either.

Oh well - another one bites the dust, I guess. Sucks that he wasn't actually part of the real campaign - he was a pretty good writer while he lasted.

If you can find him - see if he is interested in trying to head south. It may be useful to have him around - if not, that's okay, too.

To all

New Rules for Synergy Bonus’s for Profession: Skills should be in your Inbox in the next day or so. Please check them if you are leveling, or know someone who is.

To Shaezon and Ka’etil

Your peeps are becoming a bit more complex then the usual hirelings. Therefore – to simplify – Arsinian and Gartih will no longer be paid “by the week” – rather, they will be paid a flat rate – per month – at the start of the month for the entire month.

However – this is because of two things. The first – I am now aligning their entire loyalty to Kae as base of +8 base, for a -70% weekly base rates. This figure jumps to +10 ( or -80%) as soon as Kae gets to level takes the Feat Leadership.

The other reason this happens is that your character may actually advance in level during the week, that means next week the prices goes up. This keeps all prices flat for each month, and in the future – in kingmaker – all “Turns” – are meant to be 1 Month – this is helpful for simplicities sake.

To Shae and Kae: I need you to send me updated sheets for Arsinian, Galen, and Garith. All of them have now raised their levels a bit. All of them are now on level 3. Please send me their new updated Word sheets as soon as you can. Remember - you control what Feats, Skills, levels and so forth that they take. However - Galen is still sort of "co-ped" as he is not a paid man - so you have less control over his actions then Arsinian/Garith.

Shae – if Galen is coming south with you – I’ll need his sheet sooner then later.

Kae – no real rush from you at this time – unless you want Arsinian and Garith to be coming south, too.

Your monthly payment for 2 level 3 men would be 3,000 GP a man, for the month. But, at 70% off – you’ll only owe them 900 a man – for the whole month – even if they level again. Also – they’re paid up until the very end of the month. I assume you will leave roughly before the end of the month (the month ends in about 4 days now). If you leave their next month’s coin – they should be okay.

Of course - you don't need to pay your apprentice, Shae - but this is why he is much more independent and under joint control.

F Elf Spellbinder Conjuration (teleport) Wiz 1

Shae will ask Galen what he wants to do, Stay and get the business up and running or come with. Shae suspects he'll want to join us going south.

Assuming he is allowed Shae will join the council in their chambers.

Hey all, sorry for this, but i got an assignment to try to get a job due in 5 days, so i'll be spending most of my time on that, so i'll be giving mimimal input, but reading posts.

I'll come up with orders for Kae to leave for the army. i think i'll leave them in the city to manage things while i'm gone.

I'd like Sylvath to stay as well, me-thinks So we have our Warden, and a Chavalere/Bard taking my place as general.

I'll be on when i can and respond when i can but may not spend too much time actually using my thinking brain for steaches to come up with plans...

i'm bringing Clari as well, but as i recall she's to be NCP'd in combat, so i'll be on with Dain about how she is built to work in combat, and I'll be acting as her abrasive self out of combat.
