Seeing the dwarf spread out, Khatijah decides to try a slightly different tack. Her archer sweeps wide to get behind the fighters to the mage. She maneuvers her main group to where the treed archer is within the range of his magic and blasts the trees with arcane fire aimed at their bases while the fighters form a shield wall to cover him.

"I do not remember your face my friend. I believe I would if I had seen it before. Most in the pits are little more than animals, only worried with killing and mating and eating. Your, are much more clever than that."

@ DaWay: That is a really apt analogy. I like it! Personally, I like Warmachines, specifically Khador, but I dont' have the funds, time, or a group to play with to play. The one time I did I enjoyed it.

@ Count Buggula: Sorry I don't mean to keep forgetting to say hi. Sorry the Kingmaker game fizzled on ya. Here's hoping we get in. :)

Perfect, time to attack

The archer takes a little damage and jumps to another tree, effectively keeping it from attacking. While the fighters are busy shielding the mage, he has his own mage make noises behind them to distract them, then has his fighters charge and attempt to push them back towards a sand pit

I am more of a Cygnar fan myself.

Kara stares at Arizhel for a moment as if she were crazy, but still nods and gives an amazed "thank you..." She turns and orders a simple meal of porridge without any garnishing, which she eats slowly and delicately, as if savoring each bite.

1d20 ⇒ 14

She realizes what he's trying to do, but the distraction works and she suddenly finds herself hard pressed. She keeps her archer circling around the back of the other mage and starts a game of cat and mouse by loosing an arrow on the enemy caster.

The main group is another issue. She has the mage blast the center of the line and has the fighters from a wedge and charge through the blasted hole in the jungle.

@ DaWay: Cygnar will fall to the ice-crusted heel of Khador, Comrade. Do wish to perish on the field of battle or celebrate in glorious victory with drinks and women aplenty?

Taldor is surprised at the girls quick thinking. He quickly has his archer fire on the enemy archer, using the high ground to his advantage. The mage attempts to find cover, and then summons something in front of the enemy fighters. Then he has his fighters attempt to finish off the mage while the rest are distracted

1d20 ⇒ 19

Things seem to be falling in place now. Khatijah has the archer sneak around using the cover to his advantage to attack the mage again from a different angle. She has the mage attempt to banish the summons and quickly rearranges the group so that the fighters are now between the mage and the enemy. She has the group move forward towards the enemy caster being careful to use the thick jungle as cover from the archer's arrows.

A slight smile forms on her face, she seems to genuinely be enjoying the developments as the game progresses.

I can't believe that worked!

Just trying to clarify something. She is finding this interesting and as she gets into it, very enjoyable. It's not because she's stating to ge the upperhand. She's wise enough to know that is a very tenuous position to maintain.

Grand Lodge

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Taldor sees the situation falling apart. He leaves his mage to die, deciding to focus on the other pieces. His archer attempts to get at a better angle but can't get past the enemy fighters, and his own fighters class head on into the enemies.

1d20 ⇒ 19 Dang.

Khatijah's mage roasts the other caster. Her archer maneuvers through the undergrowth to harrass the fighters while her main formation reverses direction and concentrates on one of the fighters.

Taldor notices the mage die, and doesn't seem to be that upset by it. He has a moment of insight and has both his fighters bull rush towards the enemy archer, leaving the enemy fighters trying to rearrange themselves for an attack that isn't coming. his archer disappears into the undergrowth

Hadassah wrote:

"Barkeep, toast, eggs, and bacon for my friend"

"The stories are full of heroes who had meager meals before their greatest adventures. Generally, the hero only gets an ornate meal as a reward." He looks down at the two halflings. "Nothing wrong with eating well when you can, though."

"I'll have the same, please."

"Please do," Hadassah hands the innkeeper another twelve silver coins, "And breakfast for my friends playing that game over there," gesturing towards Taldor and his companion.

1d20 ⇒ 20

The rush at her archer surprised her, but gave her a clever idea. She pulled him back and used it as bait to lead the fighters into an area thick with quicksand and melts into the foliage. Her fighters finish of the lone fighter and circle the mage in a defensive ring and hunker down to wait for the archer to reappear..

Background:
Born into an Varisian noble family, Eduard grew up with some luxuries other children did not have. However, as old-fashioned as his parents were, saying that he had everything is a misconception. He was introduced to physical games at a late age and was not very social; instead of taking on what other children would do, Eduard would stay at home and read educational scrolls, write stories, spend days in front of puzzles, or study with his father.

A major turning point in Eduard's life was at the age of 10 when his mother had converted into Sarenraism and introduced it to the family. Soon, his parents changed. Some say it was for the best; others call it detrimental. Eduard then moved to a conservative church-bound school, which was good for two things. One was that he skipped almost 2 years worth of study due to his transfer exam records, and the other was that he could start a clean slate, away from various fights he had gotten in at his previous school.

However, that was nothing compared to what had happened during the age of 16. Eduard's father had passed away due to an unrecorded epidemic. It was unexpected as he was a man who survived sickness many times before. The doctors had said he could not react to the restoration spells due to all the drugs he had taken during his childhood. This caused a massive drop in the family's finances, forcing them to move to a smaller home and sell most of their luxuries. But it had also given Eduard the window to travel around the world as a sort of spirit journey and rekindle his flame towards the theatrical arts and improve on his social skills.

He decided to go into a theater apprenticeship, where he met his current set of friends. Although it took him only a few years to realize that the maestro wasn't teaching him what he needed to know.

Eduard is now 21. He lives with his brother near that Katapesh marketplace and works with him on an Andoran-style theatre, sponsored and owned by the Pathfinder Society. He had moved there since his mother decided to travel to Andoran for a second chance of luxury and romance.

He joins the mercenaries on their journey on behalf of the Society out of adventure and curiosity. And even though, he is still well maintained by his family's former wealth, he still feels he needs to make money as he is a bit spoiled with his childhood.

Personality:
The thing that one must know about Eduard is that he is arrogant. He may not always show it as he understands this may not look well to others, but his pride does drive a lot of his motives. For instance, the reason why he quit apprenticeship was that he thought he was not learning anything and could teach himself much faster, which is true in most cases. The more his family asks him to go back, the more he refuses; a fire sparks within him every time to prove that he would be great without formal education. He goes on with this because he knows he is both one of the most talented in his family. Another instance that shows his pride is his separation from the church. He still believes in the pantheon and worships Sarenrae, but he also believes in the fallacy of others: sermons that were logically incorrect, clerics going against their own doctrine, and the concept of faith: completely believing in something without understanding the full concept of it. He enjoys being in the spotlight and instilling either hope or fear to others.

This arrogance, though, does not necessarily translate to selfishness. He is prone to place the needs of others over his, overcoming sloth and greed. Although he is usually out of money and needs to borrow from others, he never forgets his debts and plans a grand feast for his friends who he has borrowed from when the time comes. He is also a crying shoulder and advisor for his friends in need. However, he had learned recently that sometimes the best thing to do is let the person defend and educate themselves.

Eduard's pride also instills a sense of self-loathing as much as it does confidence. When nobody looks, he sometimes talks to himself, mostly insults and abjurations. He is also notorious for deleting old online accounts as an escape from his own history. The only reason he hangs on to his current ones is the understanding that in this day and age, one must keep available and visible to others. This is for business and social life more than anything. It is this self-loathing, though, that fuels his drive to improve. He constantly thinks of techniques to make his ways of living more efficient.

Eduard's personality is a paradoxical oxymoron. He is both a dreamer and a realist. Even though he sometimes strives for the absurd and impossible, he understands that there is a reason why most people think of such things as unattainable and uses proper strategy to his benefit. As an analogy, he will try becoming a superhero if possible, but this will follow years of extensive research. Anything he sees fit to a dream of his will be researched on. He's quite passionate in becoming some sort of human miracle, and his perfectionism and philosophy that nothing is impossible leads to various radical actions and written plans for things even more so. Because of this, Eduard keeps himself quite busy between work, family, and personal projects, which lead to a day cycle longer than 24 hours, and constant shifting between 3 hours and 12 hours of sleep as he juggles multiple projects, both long term and short term. This also makes him a logical strategist, as long as he knows what he is talking about. He is both creative and rational, and will sometimes say things others would take as jokes due to impossibility, but believes it may work not only due to his own skill, but by his belief that others may become as unhindered as he is.

Physical Attributes:
Of raven eyes and hair and tan skin, Eduard's arrogance and handle on reality are apparent in his clothing. Whenever he has a good supply of money in his wallet or if he is trying to impress someone, he will come with a rugged stubble, short hair, and clothes that match his nobility. When he is has debts to pay, he reverts to artisan's clothing, accentuated by nothing more than old sandals, and a forgotten goatee to match his unruly hair.

Growing up, Eduard was never into physical games despite being an endurance runner during his childhood. Up to now, his exercise mainly comprises of walking and sprinting long distances to save commute money and practicing basic Tien martial styles within the comfort of his room. He is agile, but not strong. He is also less enduring as he was before due to a lung condition and an unhealthy diet, although he is currently dieting to fix this. He isn't scrawny, but he is lanky. He has gone through fights mostly by strategy, manipulation, and sheer luck, which is one of the few reasons he still believes the pantheon exists. He understands that one cannot fight if he is mentally, morally, or emotionally incapable to do so.

Eduard keeps 5 scrolls of Cure Light Wounds at him at all times, just incase his health might feign. He'd rather keep Restoration scrolls, but he finds them much too expensive.

EDIT: A few things fixed. Sorry.

Difficult as in non-traditional party makeup (flood-o-bards) or just a high number of PC's?

As the game progresses Tolus begins to pull out blowgun darts and stick them in his mouth. When he draws them out they're covered in a visibly green substance.
Tolus smiles and congratulates Katijah on her victory, praising them both for an informative and enjoyable game well played.

OMG 43 posts since I went to class this morning ... *faints*

...

Fionn slips back in from the little gnome's room and takes in the increased crowd in the tavern, no longer having the coin to treat the newcomers to drinks, she simply sits herself down on a stool near the game and watch with avid interest. While obviously completely in the dark as to what is going on, she is also obviously fascinated by the game itself. She quietly asks a few questions about it of those who are not directly playing at the moment.

"What are they playing at? How is it played?" and so forth.

She does order a plate of food as well, a mix of fruits nuts and meats, the smell of the halfling's meals making her ravenous.

Fionnbharanel wrote:
"What are they playing at? How is it played?"

"Honestly, I don't know. It looks like something Sheiks or warlords would play to prepare for war. They move their soldiers about the field, adapting to the choices of their opponent, sacrificing their men to gain an advantage. I can't imagine wanting to take direction from someone that you know values his people that little. I wonder if they give their men food and water or if they tell them of their impending deaths by starving them in order to conserve the resources . . .."

The bronzed figure shakes his head as the warriors continue to learn not to care about sending their own to die.

Fionn scowls in concentration while she watches the strategic sacrifices of men to gain (or lose) advantage as the game the progresses. She munches on her food idly, far more interested in the tactical maneuvers being made on the board than in what she is eating.

She howls in dismay as men are lost, crows in delight when a clear advantage is gained (by either side)... she is not cheering for any one player, but just fascinated by the game itself.

DaWay wrote:

That made me laugh :)

If needed, I could make a different class?

Grand Lodge

This game was the best idea i've ever had haha

Taldor looks up and notices a large crowd had gathered to watch the game. Focused as he was, he stopped paying attention to his surroundings. His spiderweb-smile fades slightly, and he immediately blushes at the large number of people watching him. Well, this is better than I hoped I guess...lets try my luck

"Would uh...would anyone else like to play?'

"Ooooh, it's so much fun to watch, but I'm afraid such military things are beyond my limited scope. I'd rather just watch the rest of you play for now... besides I'm eating! Want a grape?" She offers Taldor a small bunch of grapes still on the stem.

Khatijah stands up and bows slightly to the dwarf.

"Thank you for a most intriguing game. I thought you had found victory at several points, my friend."

She moves out of the way so that another could take her place at the table. As she does so, she pauses to whisper something in the dwarf's ear.

Taldor or Perception DC 25:
"It is a shame that I did not know you before. My ear is waiting if you wish to talk."

perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Grand Lodge

Taldor has a moment of surprise, then nods to the girl.

Tolus is feeling a little less comfortable among these people. Nearly every one has proclaimed a severe dislike or hatred of slavery. He honestly cannot comprehend why. All he knew from his masters save the one 'bad egg' was kindness and privilege. Why were these people against a system that had done so much for him and so many of his old friends?

He had to admit that he served the wealthy nobility and that may have had an impact on how he was treated. Maybe poorer Masters treated their slaves differently.

He holds up his hand in polite refusal at another game. He was almost done with his blowgun darts and wanted to finish before bed.

Grand Lodge

After the girl whispers to him, he hears the gnome offering him some grapes. Nearly bursting with joy at his acceptance, he gratefully accepts

"Mmm... good, aren't they?" She munches on another small bunch of grapes on her plate, then takes a bite of melon. "Tell me, friend dwarf, where did you acquire and learn this wonderful game?"

Something tells me the discussion thread for this AP will be pretty active.

Grand Lodge

Taldor's face takes on a sorrowful edge

"It was used to train new recruits back home. Usually around 40 (about 16 human age) they stopped playing, but...well...I stuck with it. Gives me sometin ta do with me hands, helps me take my mind off of things too"

Holy crap. I just realized that I do get the trap finding feature of the Rogue. I thought it was replaced. Only trap sense is replaced. Revising character sheet to reflect this.

"Oooh, it's a teaching game... and for ones so young! I don't even think I could understand it now and I'm far older than that. Recruits you say? Recruits for what? An army? Were you in the army? I've never been in an army... was it hard? Did you have to fight?"

She seems sincerely interested in Taldor's story and looks at him intently while she asks her questions. She does tend to talk very fast and her questions bounce around mercurially, barely giving him time to answer one before she's on to the next one.

As a clarification on my class I will not get any bardic combat buffs. I will get fascinate, inspire competence, and the ability to use bardic performance rounds as an attack bonus. So I'm more rogue than I thought. Only a touch a bard.

Tolus finishes coating his darts and stows them away carefully.

How's that for a low post day. :P I have a lot of work tomorrow so it'll probably be as slow for me tomorrow as it was today.

Taldor tries to answer, and quickly gets baffled by the multitude of questions. Finally he just decides to try to remember all the questions and wait for her to finish. He has an odd tickle of happiness at having someone so interested in him.

"Erg...yes, I was in the dwarvish army. As fer hard...well it beats trying to talk" he laughs nervously "and the fighting, oh it was miraculous. Serving meh god's will in the most direct route"

His eyes glaze over as he remembers his days in the army

"Oooh, tell me about your god please... I was supposed to learn about all the gods when I was in training to serve Sarenrae, but I'm afraid I got distracted. I'd love to hear about yours now. Is it a dwarven god? If he is, I'll bet he's terribly devoted to warlike things, isn't he? Are you a warrior or do you serve your god more directly?" She does seem genuinely intent on Taldor's words. Though her eyes stray from time to time to the flickering of the torches around the room, they always come back to rivet on Taldor.

Excited as they begin to talk of gods, Taldor's smile begins to show up again and he spews on, pulling out his necklace to show her the hammer of Torag

"In the beginning of time Torag hammered the world out of stone with his great hammer Kaglemros. He is the know as the Father of Creation, and while he does promote war when it's necessary, he is a god of protection and creation. During the great battle when all the god's good and evil alike combined forces to defeat Rovagug, it was Torag who planned the battle strategy and alongside Iomedae led them into battle. Through his guidance and strength the dwarves prevail'

edit: if you know anything there is to know about sarenrae, than you know that it was she who battled and held off Rovagug long enough for Asmodeous to create the seal to imprison him forever

"Ah, I know that tale at least... Sarenrae herself helped Asmodeus imprison Rovagug at the end of that battle. Ah that was an awesome event, that it was. Protection and creation are wonderful things indeed. I am no warrior myself, but somewhat of a healer, when the Goddess allows. Well, if we both find ourselves on this mission to Kelmarene, I humbly offer you the promise of Sarenrae's healing touch in exchange for a little of that protection. "

Fionn lowers her voice somewhat at the mention of the mission and it's destination.

She seems fascinated by his symbol of Torag and nods sagely. "It is good you carry your god's sign with you. It shows devotion."
