"Captured? I hear a lot of talk of slaves and masters and capture... are most of those called to go to Kelmarene ex-slaves? If so, I guess I am the exception, never having had to call any man... or woman... my master. Even my Goddess does not require slavish devotion, but only the service out of love and the desire to serve. I must say I have a strong aversion to slavery, so if any are here who are not but wish to become free, know that I am on your side and will help you in any way I can."

"I kneel to none besides my dwarven elders and Torag himself. These slavers shall pay for what they've done"

Oh! Hey Adam! You were in my Kingmaker game - good to see you!

Kara rolls her eyes. "Typical bureaucracy, I'm sure. So we're to wait." She looks around the room, sizing up the group. May as well make the most of it. Finding a tall stool, she climbs up and sits with her back straight, facing most of the room. In a clear voice that pierces to the corner of the room, she begins to sing a mournful tune.

Oft wandering in doubt, despair
Through endless fields of plain
Cold, chapp-ed wind whips sandy hair
Though long she's numb to pain
Sorrow creased into her eyes
Cannot forget remorse
Yet dreams untold within her lie
Of better life, or worse.
For stinging sand and darkened skin
Are all she ever knew
Her burning spirit, trapped within
Sparks fire lit anew
So forged within this hope and light
Hate torn from regret
And laughter of th'enemy's delight
Torment she ne'er forget.

perform(sing): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Tolus quickly waves his hand in that direction and grabs their attention. He locks eyes and motions for them to stop discussing the topic of slaves escaping. They may all be on a quest for freedom, but they weren't alone in the tavern, and ears were everywhere. Just looking around the room he suspected at least 3 informers. Then again, just about anyone would inform for money and they would not hesitate to weave her comments into a confession of thievery. Tolus had seen more than one slave captured after an escape attempt and charged with stealing the cloths on their back. Invariably, that slave lost a hand. He didn't wish for his new found companions to be forced into battle with a fresh, bloody stump.

After warning off the dangerous conversation, Tolus sits back and listens. He enjoys every second, imagining himself back in the house of his first Master, serving food with his overseer and mentor Ashshram.

Khatijah gets a far off look in her eyes as she takes another sip of her tea. She sees Tolus motion for them to find another topic of conversation.

"Calm my friend. If they were worried about revolts, I doubt they would allow us to keep weapons."

Tolus doesn't open his eyes when he responds,

"My caution is as much for myself as for them. I have seen more than one slave try to flee the benevolence of his Master. They were all caught and charged with thievery, of course. They did steal the clothes they wore after all. They all lost at least a hand. I'd rather not go into what is certain to be a battle with two freshly one-handed warriors."

"I think it is time for me to check out the rooms upstairs. It seems there will be much to do, and I think I could use the rest before the coming . . . whatever."

With that Arizhel stands up, finishes her drink, and makes her way to the inn's hostess.

That's a good point. Do any of us other slaves want to do this as well? I'm open to it if it'll be generally accepted practice.

I am ok with passing on the wealth, Not that I have much of the 80gp left...
@ DaWay I modified my inventory for three things I can not do without.

Background:
Jonamee was found by Haleen not long after Finn. She missed her gnomish "sister" when she left to go study in Qadira, but she always had Haleen. That changed when the two found their adoptive mother gone one day. While Finn found solace with the church, Jonamee spilled into depression. In her darkest hour, she was almost enslaved.

Almost.

Her anger, bottled inside by fear and sorrow, burst forth in white-hot rage. She dodged and twisted out of the grasp of the slavers, and ran. Ran to a smithy where she could find a weapon, any weapon. She found a long handled hammer, just a bit too large to be used as a normal warhammer by a human, but the perfect size for a gnome to use with mighty two-handed swings. The fastest of the slavers rounded the corner, shouting in triumph, only to cry out in pain as a rage fueled blow shattered his kneecaps. The next two went down howling in pain as she brought the hammer to bear. She had found an outlet for her anger and frustration, and damn did it feel good.

Personality:
Polite society might call her spirited. At least five slavers call her the gnome b$$*+ that ended their careers. A few thugs are out right terrified of her because of what she did to a dwarf once. She is as fiery as the desert sun and blunt as her favorite weapon, "Knee Breaker." She's implusive, and rarely thinks things through. If it sounds cool to her, she'll do it, consequences be damned. Her favored tactics involve swinging a big, heavy hammer at a height where most people have their knees. Dwarves, however, are less fortunate, and any dwarf slaver working in areas she's known to haunt has taken to wearing protection after what happened to Fire-beard Hassad.

Appearance:
Looks like a more muscular, short-haired version of Finn.

Before Khatijah can reply to Tolus's statement, a gnome, much like Finn, walks into the ever-increasingly crowded room and stops dead in her tracks.

"მსუბუქი? რას აკეთებთ აქ?"

Gnome:
"Fionnbharanel? what are you doing here?"

Taldor looks at the crowd piling up, and feels accepted, if not liked. Seeing that there's probably a long wait ahead, he goes back to the corner table and sets up a larger map with many more figurines on it.

Tolus also didn't expect their new Master to show any time soon. They were never on time. He sees Taldor setting up his game again and an adventurous mood settles over him. He stands and walks over. "So, can two play?"

Grand Lodge

"Oh yes of course! Sometimes as many as twenty play, all controlling their own divisions. Here i'll set up for a basic small battle with fighters and archers (mages tend to complicate things)"

Taldor looks excited to have a playing partner, and sets up the map with 3 fighters and 2 archers each. He sets himself up in the south, and Tolus up in the north, where a 20ft long by 10ft span of flat ground separates their troops. on the west side is a plateau that looks climbable, and on the east is a small body of water. Already Taldor's eyes are flickering across the board as he plans his strategy. so i'll have one archer climb the plateau and another go around the water, that way they are both protected and can offer different angles of steady fire. one fighters shall sneak around the back while the other two hold him off, then he'll ambush them from behind and i'll attempt to push his soldiers into the water. that will kill their maneuverability, and certainly end the game He explains the basic rules, then allows Tolus the first move

" 'Namee!!" Finn leaps off her barstool, which is a far leap down for her, and runs over to her fellow gnome, hugging her tightly. She prattles on in a strange language...

in Gnomish:
"What am I doing here? What are YOU doing here?!? I'm here because I had a dream about Haleen... that she was in a ghost town called Kelmarene. I heard there was an expedition to Kelmarene being formed and I came to join. I've missed you SO much... Sarenrae bless our reunion!.. I see you still bear 'Kneebreaker'. Is it still feared throughout the realms?" She chuckles at that last comment.

intellegence check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19

Tolus doesn't know much about military tactics, unit strengths, or anything of that nature, but he does know songs, and in all the songs archers are always described as better up high. He sends both his archers up the hill and moves his 3 fighters up cautiously, trying to keep them about even with the archer's slower forward progress.

Grand Lodge

combat check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Taldor is surprised by the snake-man's quickness of taking the high ground. original plan partly foiled, he still has one of his fighters start sneaking around the back, but instead of their original position taldor sends both archers next to the plateau. he has his fighters advance quickly but defensively. now he's got his archers to a location where they couldn't be picked off from the high ground, but also it will be much harder for them to support the other troops

i decided to add about 3, thinking it's reasonable. he has full BAB progression, and has taken combat expertise and a maneuver feat.

Intellegence: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16

Perception for the sneaky fighter: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

This is where the stories and songs get a little fuzzy. They always describe a glorious clash of arms, but rarely describe exactly how those clashes... clashed. In his thought he completely misses the sneaking fighter and has his archers move into range of Taldor's archers, firing if they can (he is unsure, and asks). He moves his fighters forward to match, but also toward the plateau to block the possibility of a fighter charge taking them in the side. He assumes that would be bad as his archers seem to be wearing less clothes than the fighters.

Here I'm trying to come up with a standard language I go to for different fantasy languages.

So far I use:
German for Orc.
Arabic for Elven.
Georgian for Gnome.

Grand Lodge

combat check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Explaining that the archers can still attack, just not as well, Taldor continues to set his ambush up. His fighter is now approaching the back, but the rest of his party is at a disadvantage due to the decreased number and loss of the high ground. He has one fighter charge in, and the other move between the enemy fighters and the water. for now he's losing, but senses his moment coming

you could probably add more as your class is inherently martial and i'm a social/sneaky character. Tolus probably should be taking a penalty, actually, because of his inexperience with war of any kind other than politics. I'll add that to the next rolls.

Some die rolls:

Finn CMB: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1 v CMD 12

Jonamee manages to set her feet to avoid being tackled, but still lets out a squeak of surprise when it happens.

"გამოგრჩეთ თქვენ ძალიან, და თუ ეს ასე არ არის მე უნდა მიიღოს უფრო დიდი ჩაქუჩი."

Now that we are engaged, definitely. The setup is more intuitive anyway, the actual combat takes some know-how, I'm guessing. I say [Int Mod + BAB + Martial class lvls (half for classes such as magus and arcane dualist),+1 per year prior experience with the game]

Taldor has his bloody and wounded soldier retreat to the other one, then has his fighter ambush the archers. not quite as effective as his water plan, but seemed to get the job done. after Tolus's archers were busy with melee, the had his only slightly wounded archers emerge and start firing onto the enemy fighters

The ambushing fighters takes a few nicks, but takes out the archers. the retreating fighters are chased down by Taldor's two archers and final unwounded fighter, who eventually get pinned. Taldor's face breaks into a smile, and you see the scars bend as the smile spiderwebs his whole face.

"Haha indeed a good game! You certainly took the initiative and ruined my original plan, but with splitting my forces i reversed the ground advantage. might have been good to get those archers out of melee, but two against one kept it from being too bad. Well played indeed my friend!"

Taldor immediately takes a liking to Tolus, and orders another round for him and his newfound friend
