did Kara actually pay him for the kukri? I thought you said she didn't, now you're saying you gave him what he asked for.. so I'm confused.

I agree with Kara, again. The Lady's will must be accomplished. Whether good or evil can wait, we must make ourselves scarce of prepare to face another onslaught of foes.

Personally I think this is a waste of time. What's done is done. If he is alive...wonderful...if he is dead...meh...either way we need to get a move on I am thinking.

"I would pay this merchant myself if I had any gold... which makes me wonder how Kara intended to pay him, or did she bargain in bad faith from the beginning, knowing she had no gold? Until the merchant is paid, I feel no obligation to share in the bounty of MY Lady's healing with you, Kara. Tolus is right, whether good or evil can wait... but perhaps healing cannot. Consider that when next we are in danger."

Fionnn helps the merchant to his feet and brushes him off.. "Perhaps you should wend your way home... this is not the time or place to be out and about, I think. I offer you this in partial payment of what you are owed. I know it is not of equal value, but it is all I have to spare. I'm sorry." She hands him her small scimitar.

well i am about to go on my journey west. I will be able to update maybe once a day for a little while. Please feel free to explore the darker natures of yourselves while the Kardswann gathers his forces.

"Say what you will, but I have no such guilt. The 'bargained price' was ridiculously overpriced and he knew it. Nor did I ever agree to it.

"Know however, that while you're threatening to withhold healing, I will never, ever harm you. As long as I'm standing in between you and our enemies, you're safe. However little we may like or trust eachother, we're on the same team. Got the same troubles, same enemies, and more than enough of both. Now, we could circle each other and growl, sleep with one eye open, but that thought wearies me. I don't care what you think of me, but I'm trusting you. I think you should do the same. 'Cause I don't see this working any other way.

"So unless you'd like to face a mob of angry gnolls by yourself, I suggest you leave it be and get moving."

Kara wrote:
She scowls and looks around at the group. "Bunch of hypocrites with your finger pointing and calling evil. While you're at it, why aren't any fingers being pointed at Khat? I had just secured safe passage without bloodshed when she almost got us all killed. Now quit wasting more of our time on the goblin and let's get out of the open before we're attacked again."

Khat had finally recovered from the shock of what she just witnessed. She didn't know if it was a fair price or not. Her experience had her measure a blade's worth by how sharp it was, but Kara's "payment" to merchant was not what she expected.

Her temper was rising to a hot simmer, but Kara's retort dowsed it.

She had started that fight, and all of them were worse for the wear. She was angry, angry that the man was greeting them acted like they were the ones slaughtering people for no reason. She did the right thing. Didn't she? Doubt crept into her mind. Her chest tightened as she slipped away from the others, looking for a dark corner, anywhere she could hide. The weight of a decade of repressed emotion was crushing her from the inside. THERE! Hide, turn invisible, fade away, don't cause trouble, just disappear. She crawled into the corner, tears brimming her eyes as she curled up, her head buried into her knees.

This wasn't the brief terror from when the mold attacked them. The fear, sadness, and anger that she had hide away came to the fore and staggered her. She wasn't Khatijah the fighter that seemed to never lose. She was a nameless girl from the streets of Katapesh. The tears came with quiet sobs, the kind that shook her to her core.

"ألأم، أريد ألأم بلدي."

Kellish:
Momma, I want my momma.

She chokes back a cry of anguish when she realizes she can't remember what her parents looked like, or what they were like. She can't remember her name, the one they gave her. She shudders as a single thought consumed her.

You are a slave. Always have been. always will be.

Upon turning from the goblin and Fionn, Kara notices Khat sobbing quietly in the corner and shakes her head. Idiot! Why did I lash out at her? She didn't need that right now... She moves quickly to the warrior's side and places her hand on her shoulder. "Khat, I'm sorry. It's alright, there was no permanent harm done. We're all still alive. But it's not safe here, we need to get moving. Can you get up please?"

Khat looks up, her face and hair are a mess. Her eyes look glazed over as she blearily tries to focus on the halfling coaxing her out. Slowly the fighter crawls out, her voice a hoarse whisper.

"ألأم؟"

Kellish:
Momma?

As he cares not even a little about the Goblin, Tolus follows Kara over to the bleachers unobtrusively. He doesn't want her to be alone with an emotionally compromised Khat should foes arrive on the scene.

With the goblin now stable with Fionn, Arizhel moves quietly to Khat. Taking a seat next to the frightened girl, Arizhel tenderly strokes her hair, and leans against the warrior in a (hopefully) comforting manner, "Shh, it will all be ok soon. We just need to finish this little job, and move long."

Khatijah nods. She follows the others listlessly, almost like a puppet whose strings were about to snap.

At least the tears had stopped for now.

Kara, just an FYI, if Khat ever finds out what you did, she's not going to be happy. Especially since she hates, hates being a slave.

Female Halfling Bard (Dervish Dancer) 4 - HP:22/29 AC:18/14/15 CMD:16 F:3 R:8 W:4 P:7 Init:+3

Kara takes Khat's hand as she stands up and turns back to the other. "Let's go." Kara looks for an exit to the open arena they've been fighting in, hopefully a way upstairs, and leads the group in that direction.

Grand Lodge

dang, apparently the forums ate my post

Taldor listens quietly, then comes up next to Kara and puts a hand on her shoulder "'Take care to not become the evil you wish to destroy'. That's some advice an old dwarven monk gave me when I lost my temper one battle upon seeing my commander die" as Khat gets back up Taldor lets himself fall to the back of the group, and once he's standing next to Khat he hesitates, then reaches up and pats the small of her back "I can't say I know how you feel, even though I'm a slave I've never considered myself one" his eyes flash "And you seem a lot more proud than I am. Remember, the others are looking to us to lead the charge here, don't let yer fears get to you. Besides, we have to experience fear to have courage" he looks at her another moment "I don't know how much help I'll be, I was never much good at this sorta thing, but I'll listen if ye ever want to talk" then he makes his way back to the front

Female Human Fighter 1 (HP: 9/16 NL:2 AC 16/11/15: F +4, R +1, W+2, Per:+1, Init: +1)

FYI, Khat's pretty much a waif, well, slightly less agile and with more muscle definition, but still a waif. Taldor probably isn't having to reach up at all.

Khat's focus is elsewhere. Her voice cracks a little as she speaks.

"I fear that I've always been what I am. How can I have courage against that?"

Despite the scars, the swords, and the chain shirt, she seemed every bit as vulnerable as any typical girl of sixteen.

Grand Lodge

For the first time Taldor realizes just how young Khat really is "You have a tough, brutal life. That I can say I've experienced" he pauses "I've met full grown men who were born in combat and raised in the army who don't have half the guts you do" he raises his arm up and makes a fist, a greeting in the dwarven army "And I know you have the courage for this"

I believe we left off with you having just finished inside the battle market itself. Finishing off a grueling battle with most of the gnoll population inside the market. That and stabbing a poor defenseless goblin. The Kardswann is still left. How do you wish to proceed?

Most of the group manages to move up the stairs stealthy except for Khat who clammers up the stairs one weighted foot after the other.

Two sets of stairs lead up to a second floor landing on either side of the battle market. The inside walls of both landings are open to the main outer ring of the structure’s second level.

Khat nearly jumps out of her skin when Arizhel gooses her with absolutely no warning. She spins around, and can't help but chuckle a little at the board grin on her face.

The voice up ahead brings her back to the situation at hand, but her shoulders aren't as slumped.

She would fight, and fight as hard as she could.

I'm going to assume those friendly Gnoll forces have been keeping up

Tolus hisses at his Gnoll (and the chief and any other friendly gnoll in earshot if possible) If your tribe ever had an opportunity to destroy your rival tribe here, thisss would be it. Kill the Kardssswann and anyone else who dares stand against you. Ssseize your time! Bathe in their blood!
Tolus has lost some of his measured composure. He is becoming more serpentine with every engagement. You could swear he was growing actual fangs, though your mind is certain this is preposterous...right?

Arizhel there are rooms you can hide in or go down the stairs a bit.

The gnolls look at Tolus, the Flind leader says Yes, but you will not send us to our deaths, you will join us on the field of battle.

HP 8/8 AC:16/13/13 F+1 R+3 W+3 (+2vs Poison) CMD 13 Per+5, Init+9

If you insist, but what would the other tribes say when they heard that the mighty Flind had been assisted in his victory by lesser races? You would never see the end of the challenges to your legitimacy.
I was simply pointing out, as a good ally should, that now is the perfect time to take down the leader so that the rest will scatter and flee. They have seen us kill many of their kin and one of their mighty ones, surely their morale is weakened. If you strike now, the Kardswann will fall. If you wish us to engage the rest of his troops while you do this, so be it, but we have taken our share of licks. It must be quick.

Grand Lodge

Taldor grunts "It is not our fight, and if we made it ours we would take away the glory of it from you. Do you want to tell your children of the mighty battle you won...with help?" Taldor reaches up and strokes his beard "If you truly think you cannot win without us, then we shall join you. But if you think victory is within your own reach, go out there and prove it"
