Yeh - that is the inconsistencies in the rules. For magic items you need a quiet place. For arms and armor, you need a hot fire and tools to work on leather, wood or iron. I guess I figured that you are not really messing with the item itself, but rather inscribing the necessary runes into the "leather, wood or iron" to enchant the item. It does not say that you cannot do it on the road, just that it takes longer. I don't think that I actually need an anvil. Obviously it is your call, but I guess it seems strange that I would need a masterwork sword, and then have to pound on it with an anvil (which would seem to screw up the masterwork) to enchant it. I figured I had to heat the sword up so that I could etch the ruins into it. For wood and leather, it seems that a heat source should not be necessary. Thus the big difference in time required. In a smithy, it is much easier to heat and reheat the blade to get the etching of runes done faster.

I think right now we're more eager to rest and recover and get ourselves prepped for bear. We did okay at the house but I think honestly that came down to luck and good rolls when they counted most. Nevermind Aldern, he was a punk. it was the damn bat, the bad saves, and the hosue itself which damn near killed us.


Very true, as I said, I had groups in that house before which did far worse. Just tell me when you feel you're restored and prepared enough. This is one of the very few downtimes of this AP.

So it is 500 for +1 armor and 1000 for a +1 weapon. Everyone check your cash and let me know what you want. Not sure whether I will purchase anything yet myself. Better armor would be nice. I might get a Mithral Shirt and give it a +1. And then save up enough to make Celestial Armor if I can. It is 11.5k to make, but well worth it.

Turning to Perdition, Celestra asks, "Perdy, would you be willing to be a dear and escort me further around the town. I hate to be entrusted with all of this gold with little support from my friends! Mind you, if I start spending too much of Karlan's money at the pub, you better stop me!"

Celestra (and Perdition if he is willing) hits the town with Ailetha to purchase equipment and supplies needed for this exciting new task.

"Ailetha, my dear, I'm excited to trying out my knowledge of magic and putting it to a practical use that will help us with the next stage of the adventure. So, where should go to get started?"

Knowledge, Local 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Proceeding to a shop to get the needed equipment, Celestra tells Ailetha her needs.

"So, Ailetha, my dear. If you are going to enchant some arms and armor, I could really use a Masterwork Rapier and a suit of Masterwork Breastplate enchanted. This would help immensely against the evil I fear we will be facing. Does that sound doable to you?"

If you get the armor, I should be able to give it magical enhancement to make the rapier a little sharper and the armor a little tougher to hit. No guarantees, but I think I can do it.

If you are planning on keeping it for a while, you should see if you can't get a golden stein engraved on the breastplate, that would be very appropriate for you.

The materials should cost 1500 gold in addition to the cost of the masterwork equipment if you do not already have it.

@DMZZ - I will buy masterwork tools, I figure that 1 set of masterwork tools should be enough, I think that everyone has metal equipment - only perdition fights with a wooden club and nobody has leather that they are going to want enhanced.

Spellcraft(rapier+1): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 vs DC 8 --> 1 day
Spellcraft(breastplate +1): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 vs DC 8 --> 1 day

Harry, keep em both unless you need the cash. The ring's +1 is a deflection bonus while the Armor's +1 is an enhancement bonus. If you are short on cash, you are better keeping the ring and getting the upgraded armor when we have the money.

Actually, we will have to check with DMZZ, I think that the +1 is an enhancement bonus to the armor, but the armor grants an armor bonus. Thus you will have the chain shirt (+4) plus the +1 enhancement for a total of +5 Armor Bonus as well as a +1 Deflection Bonus from the ring.

I am quickly learning all the different versions of available bonuses as I try to figure out how I want to play Jez in HoJ. What can I do to make her the buffest sorceress around.

Touch of Good granting a +3 bonus

After purchasing the needed supplies, Celestra spends two days crafting a Headband of Alluring Charisma +2

Spellcraft Check vs. DC 13 1d20 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 3 = 23

Sixteen hours of work, two days later, Celestra pulls out the headband and smiles to herself.

"Hmm, Karlan is going to like this!"

@Celestra - if you are doing the Headbands in 2 days, you need to do it at the accelerated speed which is +5 to the DC. So your DC would be 18. A little risky, but gets the stuff done faster. The time is 1 day per 1000 in base price. You pay 1/2 base price to make it, but it is still the base price that the crafting time is calculated from.


As far as I remember are bonuses of armours always "armour bonuses". They should stick with deflection

And Ailetha is right. Base price stays the same.

Sorry for the mistake, I was using the 2,000 crafting price as the base price. Celestra would not hurry for her first attempt. If time is not an issue, please give her the four days to create the headband.

Ailetha, I realize that I do not have the money to invest in Masterwork Breastplate plus the enhancement. So, I will have you enchant my Mithral Chain mail shirt instead. In fact, I think I prefer the light weight instead. Perhaps some day I can purchase a Mithral Breastplate, but not yet.

After four days of labor, Celestra approaches Karlan with her first attempt at creating a magical wondrous item and presents to him an elegantly crafted head band.

"Here you are, my friend. This headband is crafted with divine magic and my own special touch that will give you the charm and wit you have always dreamed of. Not that you weren't charming before, my dear. However, I am certain that it will serve you well in your need. I even have some spare change for you as well. I didn't need as much as I thought."

Celestra hands over the Headband of Alluring Charisma +2 as well as a small pouch of 100 gold pieces.

Karlan and/or Celestra - I can loan you some money if you need something. With Karlan's glass jaw, an extra +1 on his armor would not be a bad thing. And a +1 on the shield if he feels so inclined. I did not buy anything as I do not want to waste the money on masterwork armor at this point.

Already have a +1 breastplate and a +1 shield. At this point he needs to look at other items like rings of protection or natural armor. The charisma headband actually will help quite a bit more things than either item. More Lay on Hands, more attack and AC while smiting, better saves. It's like three items rolled into one. :) Also learned my own lesson about keeping a spell slot open to memorize what i need at the time. I dont regret the bless weapon since auto critting on the bat helped immensely. But, a lesser restoration would have solved a lot of problems too.

Karlan graciously accepts the headband and the money. "Thanks so much celestra. I've got a feeling we're going to need all the help we can get.

No, a mihtral shield is not available. You could be lucky and find one in Magnimar, provided a dwarven caravan from Citadel Janderhoff made the trip during the last weeks.

Nearly a week after you have returned to Sandpoint, you feel equipped and refreshed enough to make the trip to Magnimar.

Yesterday a high priest of Pharasma has arrived from Korvosa and after listening to Karlan's detailed report, he has proposed to hallow and consecrate the whole place. But since a lich-infested house is an entity totally unknown in all over Golarion, he also proposes to hold a synod to gather more clerical knowledge and "firepower". He also underlines that such a phenomenon could mean a great opportunity to learn more about the secrets of undeath. He will soon meet with Father Abstalar and Mayor Deverin to work out details.

The Sandpoint Saviours now have to decide how they plan their trip to Magnimar, if they look for Vhisky's or Quink's help, where they want to get started in magnimar etc.

Karlan doesn't seem to like or even care for the idea of "studying" the house and learning about undeath he makes a point to diplomatically avoid the priest so he doesn't feel compelled to knock his teeth in. Instead he dives headlong into his job and simply goes along with the others hoping to find the root of this aldern problem.

Going along with Celestra and Ailetha for now.

Jabryl is the head of the local Sczarzi - they Sandpoint thieves guild if you will.

I figure if someone will have contacts in Magnimar who can tell us where we can find this Skinsaw Brotherhood, it will be him.

Since everyone seems to be in agreement, I lead all who want to join - hopefully including at least 1 or 2 front liners - to Jabryl's tavern hangout.
