Yeh, CDG the hippo would have been nice, but one mistake and it is Harry vs team mutated ogres.

I support this ogrecidal tactic.

The other doors are locked, but you think you saw a keyring poking out under one fleshy leg...

Avoiding temptation, Harry quietly withdraws from the house and returns to the party to fill them in on what he saw...

"So Harry, did you see any sign of the Rangers? How about ogres? Is the inside of the house really as disgusting as I am imagining it to be?"

Harry draws a rough model of the house on the ground.

"There are traps located here and here" Harry points out the couple he found, "These doors were all secured and locked, however this door was open just a crack, thats where the leader resides. Miss Zomesco this place is worse than we have encountered so far; its worse than the Misgivings, at least that was a lair of undead and so we can rationalise what we saw, but these things are living in that filth by choice. I didn't see any living Rangers, but then I didn't get to go everywhere in that place, and with the place being trapped up as it was it was only a matter of time before my luck ran out and the jig was up. Like Misgivings, try not to touch anything, play with anything, or pick anything up... for all we know its all trapped at worst and diseas ridden at best"

"Sir Karlan, I think if we moved hastily we could rush the woman in her bed and strike a decisive blow. Once she goes perhaps the rest will be demoralised. On a side note, the coridoors seemed awful small for big creatures, so we can box them in pretty well"

Sounds like a plan!

I don't want to use all my limited magic, but I can make us all invisible as long as we stay within about a 10' radius of me and I can make us all silent as well. The invisibility lasts 6 or 7 minutes like what I cast on Harry before. The silence is less than a minute, but should give us time to get to the whale.

Karlan frowns not particularly comfortable with the idea of an ambush.

"If we do it that way we demand her surrender before the hacking begins. Bobby Joe at least had a chance to surrender or at least plead for mercy. If we all just start cutting into her and kill her before she can open her mouth well..." Karlan sighs not particularly likeing this decision either. "We stop her from casting or even calling for help. But she doesn't get a fair shot at surrender either."

Karlan stares down at the map. "So no one else was in there but the mother? Where in the hells are the rest of them..."

Ailetha shakes her head and looks over at the paladin: Karlan. If she does surrender, then what do we do? She has a room decorated with curios made from human body parts. We are miles from the nearest town, and Turtleback Ferry did not appear to even have a judiciary. We are not talking about some confused child who killed his parents in a fit of insanity, we are talking about a spellcasting ogress who murders and then eats humans and then uses their remains to decorate her home. Personally, I think that an axe to the neck would actually be giving her the easy way out.

Or are you planning on tying her hands and walking out of here while her spawn set up some trap? They know this area, we don't. I am not a big supporter of murder, but this is not murder, it is a justified killing that must take place and to avoid any of us being killed in the process, a silent invisible axe is the best method by far. If you wish to pronounce judgment or remain outside, that is your choice, but I would prefer to be alive when I get to the ranger fort, not part of this monstrosities next necklace.

"Chances are she's not going to surrender anyway. But a chance is a chance and there lies the difference between us and them. We can argue about what to do with her after. Whether we execute her for her crime or drag her massiveness to turtleback ferry to be hacked apart by a mob the point is we're dispensing justice. And justice doesn't come in the form of murder from the shadows. If this bothers you you are welcome to wait out here in the dark."

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

I do not believe it is a wise choice. But if this is what you demand, then here is a plan. We use my magic to get in invisible and silent. I will move far enough away from you that you, and only you, will be visible with the silence dispelled. Harry can stand on the far side of the bed still in the invisibility with his axe raised. You demand her surrender. If she declines, as we all know she will, then Harry's axe falls immediately.

Male Human Paladin 10| AC 28 T 14 FF 26 | HP 99/99 | F +15 R +10 W +13 | Init +2| REACH

Karlan sighs. "No it's not wise. But wisdom isn't a part of it. We'll go with that plan then."

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Unless someone else objects, I will cast Invisibility Sphere. It does not list a duration, so I assume that it is the same as Invisibility, 1 minute per level.

Once we are directly outside the "home" and prepared to go in, I will cast Silence on myself. It has a 20' radius and should silence even the Full Plate armored paladin. I know it is hard to believe that anything would silence that tank, but apparently it does, at least for 1 round per level.

We can see each other within the sphere, but nobody else can. Then we will make out way into the rather heavily trapped structure behind Harry's lead.

If someone else has a different plan, speak now for the silence will force you to hold you peace in a few moments.

Well, in these narrow corridors you won't be able to stay invisible, since one or two are always outside the sphere. But if that is your choice, I need a marching order and modus operandi. Btw. where is Rune?

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Dunno - he posted a few times yesterday in the other campaign. I will post in the OOC over there.

How narrow can the passages be? These are ogres, aren't they large - 10'x10' monsters?

My thought is Harry up front with Karlan next to him or close behind. Me in the middle with Marek. Alana right behind with Celestra watching the rear. We should be able to get 5 or the 6 in the sphere if it is a 5' wide hallway. All 6 if it is 10' wide.

The corridors are five feet wide combat-wise. So the ogres can't fight in the corridors but still squeeze through them (I know, this is a strange detail of the AP).

Can two people squeeze together into one square. Not looking Alana and Celestra's direction.

Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

Alana nods her agreement, "I too think that this thing is undeserving of an option, and that our best chance is to move swiftly, but I will do as you say, Sir Karlan."

If the coridoors are 5' then there's a lot of squeezing going on for the Ogres thats for sure... seemed odd on the map but I rolled with it... glad to see it legit as it sure hampers the bad guys!

"Suppose you have to ask for surrender Sir Karlan, that's the proper thing to do - even the blackest pirate has a few last words of going through the motions before a keelhauling, and I reckon we are at least a few steps above that"

Harry looks back down at the map,

"If we can't all fit in the magic bubble, then perhaps we have two groups... once we are safely in place the second group can come in fast whilst the first group starts talking. Wont be very long before the reinforcements arrive. If we do it that way then Sir Karlan, Miss Aurcalam and I go in the first lot, with Thumper signalling the move for Miss Wayworth, Miss Zomesco, and Mr Ironblood. If the second lot circle out wide and come in from the treeline then its only a short distance to the porch once they reveal themselves."

"What you reckon Sir?"

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Just remember, that there is a limit to my magic. I can make everyone in the group invisible twice, or I can speed everyone within about 30' up to make them quicker in battle. I can one or the other or both, but only twice per day in total. Also, I can make a single person invisible or silence an area, but since I have already made Harry invisible twice today, I can also only do this twice more today. I also have a few more minor spells, but they are not as strong.

What I am saying is that this is a one shot action. If we screw up, I cannot make everyone invisible several more times.

It is interesting. If everyone is within 10' when I cast it, we all will gain the benefit of the spell. Then if 3 stay behind, they will no longer be invisible, but if they rejoin us and get within 10' of me, then they will be invisible again. If someone attacks, it spoils the invisibility only for them, not the whole group. Only if the target of the spell, most likely me, attacks is the whole spell dispelled.

Marek harshly responds:

I believe those monsters are beyond any measure of human justice but I will respect your wish, sir Karlan. Just do not ask me to stay my blade. I have seen that unholy cow rip the flesh right out of my cousin's bones and only survived because they fully intended to fatten me up before the slaughter. Of course whilst Sir Karlan is being righteous and doing the right thing, I am fairly sure he fully shares our zeal and enthusiasm for the task when they refuse"

"Miss Zomesco the plan is for the second group to withdarw into the trees and circle up to the North, you'd come into the grounds up between the house and the farmstead and through the front door behind us... Thumper will probably jog it in quickly, but if he runs in really fast then we are probably knee deep in something gone wrong"

Karlan shrugs off MArek's harshness. "Vengeance isn't a part of it either. Like I said chances are she's going to see me and Marek and try to fight back before the words "I" come out of our mouths. Is there a difference in the span of the spells Ailetha? Can we remain silent while not invisible or vice versa? And yes I meant Marek. Harry works best when he's coming out of nowhere anyway and Marek here seems to have a personal stake in this so I think he'll agree with me that he'd rather face the source of his torment right? You can circle in and get in position and me and marek will count to what? 30? 50? Before we move in behind you. At least this way if she manages to rush out in the corridor Harry has a solid shot at her before she can act against us."

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

The invisibility is fairly long in duration, six or seven minutes. The silence is much shorter, less than a minute, probably only forty or so seconds.

Harry, will we need to slow for any traps or doors? Or can we barge straight in. The silence only lasts a brief period as I said, but we can charge right in through doors or even walls and not make any noise, at least until the thing making the noise gets to be at least 20 feet from me. In other words, smashing a door would be silent. Leaving the door swinging on rusty hinges would make noise once it was more than 20 feet from the center of the spell, me.

Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

"Will the casting of other spells, aside from your own, disrupt the silence or the invisibility?"

"Alright. Miss Aurcalam and Miss Wayworth, we will lead in and get in position. We will sneak in and stay quiet as the grave but position ourselves for a fast reponse. Sir Karlan, Miss Zomesco, and Mr Ironblood will come through the rear, and Thumper will accompany them through to make sure they don't get turned around inside... he should come straight to me."

"Theres a trap out front, and a trap inside on the first door; don't touch the strings. Those were the ones I found along the path to her room, but anything and everything else could be trapped, so just stick to not touching any new doors or anything that could conceal something nasty... they were pretty brutish mechanical traps, and fairly large in nature."

"Sir Karlan, a count of 50 should be plenty for us to get in ahead and in place... when you lot come in I'd half expect the fat cow not to pay much attention, probably assuming its her clumsy brood returning. Just don't do any 'announcing of your presence' until you get in close and she'd probably stay none the wiser until you were in her lap asking for a dance."

All things being in agreement, Harry will lead the advance party back to the bedroom; when he gets to the door he waits for a breeze or the like outside, then moves the door as though it was drifting on a draft of air

To Alana: If it is general spell, it should not affect the invisibility. You could cast a spell to make Harry bigger or faster for instance. If cast something at or against another, for instance fireballs or magical missiles, those will disrupt the spell.

Male Tiefling (Daemon-Spawn) Magus 8 (Fiend Flayer)

So me, Karlan and Celestra will enter without any cover from the spells, relying on our Stealth?

I will accompany you, Karlan, just give me a few seconds to raise my protection spells.

Whe the others leave, Marek starts counting from 50. He separates several different arcane foci during the count, starting to cast his spells on the count of 20.

Marek will cast greater magic weapon on his cold iron scimitar (it lasts 7 hours) and cat's grace on himself.

That still isn't very clear :) So we have group 1 and 2 and group 2 will stay outside while 1 sneaks in and opens the door to Mammy's chamber?

I figured group one: Ailetha, Harry, Alana, would sneak in and wait in position on top of mammy graul while the rest of us would wait outside, count to 50 and march in on her?

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

I figured that Harry, Karlan and Ailetha would go in under silence and invisibility. Then Karlan would step out of the Invisibility Sphere next to Mammy's bed and make his ultimatum. The second that Mammy declined (about a 99.999% chance), Harry would drop his axe on her neck while Karlan would attack from the other side. I could then run out and bring the others in invisible, or they could simply come in while visible.

Male Half Orc Rog5 Cav 3: HP:84/84, - AC: 21/T:14/FF:18 - Perception: +12(Dark Vision) F: +6/R: +8/W: +4 - CMB: +11 - CMD: 25, Speed: 30ft, Init: +2 (+4)

I went with Karlans plan. He seems uninclined (and rightly enough) to go sneaky peeky style and instead do the march up. There's very little reason to hide the secondary team as there's not reallymany bad guys in a position to notice their advance.

So whilst I know what I put was a bit of a departure, it seemed Karlans plan just plays out as Karlan probably would. This way we are ALL there when the haterade starts flying.

Male Tiefling (Daemon-Spawn) Magus 8 (Fiend Flayer)

The outsider works hard to rein in his anger with his intellect, reaching a compromise on both.

Sir Karlan, if you mean to really apply the concept of justice on this situation, you can have me as a witness and victim to the depredations of the Grauls. I will gladly stand in trial however hastily it occurs and specially as executioner of the sentence that falls upon that creature. I have my spells prepared, and I am ready.
