Celestra Zomesco |
" If Alana and Celestra can handle the dogs the rest of us can take out their master in short order."
"You can count on us!" Celestra replies as she prepares to charge in.
Alana Wayworth |
Alana nods her understanding, her features tight, her eyes ablaze with fury. Since Karlan wishes quiet, she will prepare her crossbow instead. She will attempt to stay out of the thick of things and take shots at the dogs, and of course once things are going she will cast spells.
Heavy Harry |
Harry likewise will push a little closer on the flank, no point having to spend a full round getting to the Ogre just to get it beating on him repeatedly before he gets to act... Harry will attempt to close within 30' of the rear of it, so he can do a move/attack, or into position for a charge. If it spots him first and his cover is blown then so be it... but eating an AoO and THEN its full attack action is a baaaad idea. :)
Karlan Bladetwist |
That's why you pull your bow and shoot at it. So it charges someone after you pumped a full attack in it hopefully to its FF AC. It charges, you step in and hack it to pieces after it's at a -2 ac. Marek will be there to provide flank. I suspect though he'll be sending the dogs to the other side. Eitehr way theres plenty of meat on both sides to handle it.
Marek Ironblood |
Marek nods to Karlan's suggestion, comfortable at following concise orders and trusting the group knows their strategy best. He concentrates for a second, running a finger through the blade. His thumb is nicked and trails a thin smear of blood along the blade, which the iron appears to drink.
Swift Action to activate Arcane Pool, spending 1 point to increase the weapon's enhancement to +2 keen. Since Harry will try closing in, you can put Marek in AG30. He should be hiding under the grass cover.
DM Zyren/ Heart of Runes |

Ailetha
Even though the ogre knows nothing of the danger, he crouches to pick up a small glittering stone just as Karlan's arrow whistles past his head
Huh!? Was there little birdy bird above my head?
Celestra Zomesco |
Surprise Round
Celestra casts Spiritual Weapon and directs it to attack the Ogre. A glowing rapier appears and stabs itself into the ogre's leg when he least expects it.
Spiritual Weapon 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Confirm Critical 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
For this round Celestra will choose the following for her Blessing of Fervor.
• Gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. So her AC= 20.
Ailetha Aurcalam |
Appreciating the martial prowess of her companions, Ailetha begins a rousing song about ogres dying by the blades of good warriors.
Begins Inspire Courage - +2 att/dam/fear saves for all <-- move action
If this is Round 1 and not a surprise round, I will then cast Glitterdust centered at AM33/AN34 which should get both dogs and the ogre.
Move Action: Start Inspire Courage - +2 att/dam/fear saves
Standard Action: Cast Glitterdust <-- DC17 or Blinded
Ailetha Aurcalam |
Make it just the Glitterdust. I do not know if I will catch all three of them together next round. Hate losing the +2 for you guys, but Harry, Celestra and Marek can all delay until after me next round.
Heavy Harry |
Surprise Round
Taking aim at the space between the lumbering creatures shoulder blades, Harry grins cruelly and looses an arrow from his shortbow.
Attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 v flat footed AC.
Damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Sneak Damage 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6) = 14
Wow, nice hit...
Marek Ironblood |
Surprise Round
Greater Magic Weapon: +1 enhancement to attack and damage (bonus to attack does not stack with masterwork).
Arcane Pool (extra +1, keen): 1 enhancement to attack and damage, critical range 15-20.
Giant Slayer (trait bonus): +1 trait bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against creatures of the giant subtype.
Blessing of Fervor: Gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves.
Marek breathes heavily, struggling to restrain himself as the divine spell beckons him to fight.
This is what you've been waiting. You have been forged and tempered for this moment. Calm the f@+& down.
He looks at the grossly mismatched monster, forcing himself to ignore the memories flashing before his eyes.
Ya eat only what ya kill, dog!
His mind goes back to the precise incantations needed to perform his opening spell, the cadence of the arcane words focusing his concentration. It takes him only a couple seconds to notice he picked the wrong spell, his furious subconscious having taken over his composed self.
The spell heightens the tiefling's reflexes momentarily, allowing him to spring from cover directly through the enemy's reach, too fast to the naked eye to follow. The sound of a cut and the sudden smell of blood is all that indicates the blow dealt during this movement.
Standard Action: Cast Bladed Dash, moving to AL32.
Bladed Dash Attack roll (using Power Attack -2/+4): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32. Bladed Dash Damage roll: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18.
Bladed Dash confirmation roll: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22. Bladed Dash critical damage roll: 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Marek Ironblood |
Hope that doesn't screw the pooch too much. It's way too personal for him at this moment, and on a judgement call I figured the spell pushed him over the edge.
Karlan Bladetwist |
Well other than flying straight into a glitter dust and ensuring that if one or more make their saves you'll probably get flanked and spanked yourself while simultaneously messing up a chance for a solid full ranged attack from me and harry (who dont have precise shot). Nope. Not at all.
Heavy Harry |
Never mind, Harrys gonna probably just gonna have to be Harry and come in swinging too then :p Besides, Harrys arrow is gonna hurt, and then Mareks big hit might help towards getting this fight closed down pretty fast.
DM Zyren/ Heart of Runes |
Harry's arrow pierces the thick leathery hide of the Graul offspring and Marek's blade bites deep into his flesh. Bobby Joe Graul gives a gurgling shriek of surprise and anger as he turns around, ready to face his new opponents!
When suddenly the glowing rapier appears poor Bobby Joe is distracted for a moment and closes his eyes, just long enough not to be effected by the glitterdust.
Alana
Karlan
Bobby Joe
Hounds
Harry
Celestra
Marek
Ailetha
Marek Ironblood |
Marek should be at AL 32, one square to the south of his position, hopefully providing Harry a flanking position.
Karlan Bladetwist |
"Oh for the love of.." Droopping the bow and pulling his sword and shield free karlan charges ahead sparing a brief line to the girls behind him. "Try to take out the dogs we'll just have to play this by ear!"
Charge to A34. Smack dog with sword.
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 Scimitar
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Damage
DM Zyren/ Heart of Runes |
Karlan hacks at one of the hounds and blood sprays forth from its flank. Bobby Joe Graul grins maliciously as soon as he sees the charging paladin and raises his spear
Bobby Joe Graul attacking Karlan/ Spear1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Damage1d10 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Bobby Joe Graul attacking Karlan/ Spear1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Damage1d10 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Heavy Harry |
R1
AC20
Harry bursts forth from the undergrowth with his axe, jogging to the Ogre...hoping to catch it off guard as he closes and silently praying it will miss when it strikes at him as gets into range... he wants to get in under its reach.
Move action to AK34 - Fighting defensively, hopefully dealing with any AoO's. Harry readies his attack for Thumpers arrival.
He spits abunch of phrases, something guttural and offensive that is hard to make out given its tone, but the Orcish translation is something about the Ogres mother.
Cavaliers Challenge - Harry's attacks deal +2 extra damage against that target. his allies receive a +1 circumstance bonus on melee attack rolls against the target
Thumper takes off like a flash from Karlans side and races at the opening beside the Paladin, and past the fellow to the Ogre to help outflank it with Harry.
Charge action to AN33 - drawing an AOO from the dog theer, bit HOPEFULLY the Ogre is out of AoO's now
Bite 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 30 Charge/Inspire/Outflank/Challenge
Trip 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 30 FALL DOWN!
Damage 1d6 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 = 15
Harry now steps in to do his nastiness...
Attack 1d20 + 10 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 4 + 2 = 28
Damage 1d12 + 14 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 14 + 2 + 2 = 21
Sneak 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9 + Sickened for 2 rounds (Brutal Beating)
Celestra Zomesco |
If Karlan stopped Celestra from casting the spell, she would have listened to him. No Blessing of Fervor yet.
Round 1
"Try to take out the dogs we'll just have to play this by ear!"
Heeding the advice of the Paladin, Celestra directs the Spiritual Rapier toward the dog at AN32 and lets it attack.
Spiritual Rapier: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Meanwhile she advances closer (AO33) to the dogs with her naturally quick stride (Move 40 ft.) and slices at the same beast with a quick and deadly cut from her own rapier.
Rapier: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Confirm Critical: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Marek Ironblood |
Round 1
Greater Magic Weapon: +1 enhancement to attack and damage (bonus to attack does not stack with masterwork).
Arcane Pool (extra +1, keen): 1 enhancement to attack and damage, critical range 15-20.
Giant Slayer (trait bonus): +1 trait bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against creatures of the giant subtype.
Inspire Courage: +2 competence on attack rolls, damage rolls, and Will saving throws against fear.
Flanking (with Thumper): +2 on attack rolls.
Feeling confident due to the party’s presence and prowess, Marek falls back on his most practiced attack routine, seamlessly mixing broad sword cuts with a quick spell. He revels at the feeling of electricity coursing through his body to his blade and into his enemy.
Full-Round Action: 5 ft. step into AK33, flanking with Thumper. Then Spell Combat.
Cast Shocking Grasp, using Spellstrike to deliver it with a scimitar attack.
Shocking Grasp attack roll (using Power Attack -2/+4): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17. (Missed)
Spell Combat attack roll (using Power Attack -2/+4): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33. Spell Combat damage roll: 1d6 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18.
Confirmation roll: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 Spell Combat critical damage roll: 1d6 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Marek Ironblood |
So, I missed with the touch spell. Does that mean it is lost or do I still "hold the charge" and could have used through the second attack? It could mean an extra 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 2, 2) = 19 electricity damage on the second attack.
In most cases, if you don't discharge a touch spell on the round you cast it, you can hold the charge (postpone the discharge of the spell) indefinitely. You can make touch attacks round after round until the spell is discharged. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates.
Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets as part of the spell. You can't hold the charge of such a spell; you must touch all targets of the spell in the same round that you finish casting the spell.
DM Zyren/ Heart of Runes |
Bobby Joe Graul attacking Harry/ Spear1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Damage1d10 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
As Harry comes into reach Bobby Joe thrusts his spear and pierces Harry's shoulder. Grinning dumbly, he is totally surprised as Thumper rams into him and makes him double over - suddenly Harry is over him and a quick strike later, Bobby Joe Graul is dead...his dogs, bound to their master mostly by fear, flee at once and don't put up any more resistance...
unless you want to slaughter them
Marek Ironblood |
Err... I apologize, Sir Karlan. I do not know what came over me. You have my promise this situation will not repeat itself. I can tend to your wounds if you'll let me.
Marek approaches, sheating his sword and readying a few spell components.
Marek Ironblood |
Zyren, did Marek get to cast his spell? I'm waiting your confirmation to cross it out as spent for the day.
Marek Ironblood |
Nah, if it's still on he'll discharge it in the corpse. No point in sneaking around with a buzzing electric scimitar. I asked because I thought that Harry killed the thing before Marek got to act according to the description given.
Marek concentrates and detects magic on the area, fearing that someone could've been watching the battle.
Ailetha Aurcalam |
Ailetha stops her singing and joins the others.
Lets see what this inbred thing had on him.
She then begins to search through the ogres possessions taking stock of anything magical or that appears to be of value.
Marek Ironblood |
Marek keeps looking around, searching for any hidden threats.
The monster still managed to wound Sir Karlan and Harry, and he was alone against six people. Beware of the animal he was chasing. I do not claim to be a woodsman, but even I know a wounded animal is a dangerous animal.
