Adventure Path Rise of the Runelords - Strange incidents in Sandpoint: a goblin raid, shadows of the past, a serial killer...what other perils do the brave Sandpoint Saviours have to master?

Whisper back:

Sandpoint? This sleepy little town? I always wondered if that lighthouse there was a remain of a Thassilonian watchtower...but anyway, a lamia matriarch is a powerful monster, not the kind of creature that would fall for every impostor...so if she was believing that Karzoug could be revived by using the runewells, there might be some truth in in that...And now you have come here hoping to find answers to unformulated questions, mhm? The one thing I can tell you is: No one from outside has entered the Irespan and moved to its lower regions. So, if there is a working runewell in its depths, I don't think it can be fed - whatever is down there, it is isolated from the rest of the world.

"I know this runewell appears isolated from the rest of the world, but how certain are you that it is not onnected to the others? There feels like a great resurgence of power within the legendary Thassolan ruins, and I am convinced they are connected in some way. Tell me, my dear professor, is it possible that we take a small group of adventurers down into the lower levels and investigate before it is too late?"

And, are you certain that there are no other entrances to the passages beneath this ancient building?

You'd need Harry to find that out; turns out that he has quite the talent for finding all the hidden and not so hidden entrances in Magnimar

I am not even going to try to respond to that.

Why not? :)

My dear, he appears like a benevolent grandfather now if you go down, you will perish. Great heroes have gone down, scores of them, when the Irespan was entered the first time. Only two or three returned and they spoke of horrors...horrors of godlike power...So, I hope you can see that I can't allow you to go down there. he sighs and adds Yes, the wells may be connected, but they won't be able to feed this one, because they can't harvest souls from outside. So I don'T think we have to act. You should search for that lamia though, I guess.

"My dear professor, you are so sweet to be so concerned for out safety! You truly are a such a kind man." Celestra gives the professor a gentle kiss upon his cheek. "However, I should assure you that I will not be bringing my students down into the Irespan. The others that I have in mind are two of the biggest, strongest, bravest heroes you will ever know. One is a bit of a pirate and the other is a grumpy little straight shirt, but you cannot doubt their skill with the axe and sword! Perhaps sometime in the near future you will reconsider when our need is greater."

"Do you think we should have any concern that they could start harvesting souls from the outside. We have already had a number of murders here in Magnimar. You don't think those souls could be harvested here do you?"

Professor wrote:

"Perhaps you are right again, Professor. Searching for the Lamia sounds like the wisest course. Do you have any idea where I could look to find this wicked creature?"

No, no...they can't escape, so we don't have to worry they suddenly emerge out of the Irespan and start kidnapping people, heh! Finding that lamia? Oh sorry, I don't I can help you with that. I know they are hideous and clever and I doubt it will be an easy task...but let me tell you one thing: Most things happen by accident, so I wouldn't focus on that. Maybe you find some other work in the region, until you come across her again. then, finally, he turns back to Ailetha I can 100% guarantee that there are no other passages into the Irespan, we have double-checked that a thousand times.

"Well thank you very much, Professor. Unless you have any more questions, Ailetha, I think we should be going and not take any more of this man's precious time. I cannot thank you enough, and I do hope we will have the opportunity to return and visit with you again. "

Turning to Tino and the gang, Celestra says, "Ok class, I think it is time for us to leave. Please be sure to thank Professor Bluebelly for graciously giving us a tour and a look at both the Irespan and his work."

Celestra gives the professor a sweet embrace and another kiss on the cheek. "Take care, Professor!"

When Ailetha is all set, Celestra departs with her and the boys. The next stop will be to return to Harry and Karlan at the Inn.

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

I understand your reticence to believe that someone is attempting to bring back one or more of the Runelords, but trust me, I have seen too many interrelated happenings to consider this to only be coincidence.

I have one or two more questions. What exactly are Rune Giants? And if we were to meet any, do you know of any type of magic or weapon that would be most effective against them?

Also, when they were in power, did the Runelords have or use any other weapons besides the magic we still have today? In particular, I would be referring to Karzoug, the Runelord of Greed whose followers I believe have gone on this recent murder spree here in Magnimar and have been carving seven sided symbols on the chests of those they kill.

The boys depart with cheers and many thanks, this was surely a divertion from their daily fight for survival in the streets.

The professor also seems happy, the boys and you have obviously lightened up his day. He even blushes a bit as Celestra gives him the small kiss. But quickly his scientist-expression returns and he thinks about Ailetha's questions:

Runegiants? It is believed that they were the generals and highest officers of Karzoug's forces. Magically altered stone giants from the mountains. Their bodies were covered with runes of power which lead to physical growth and increased mental abilities - I can't imagine that these monsters had any weaknesses and we should thank the gods everyday that they perished during Earthfall. To your second question: We do not know for sure, but we have found lots of evidence that their magic was entirely runebased. Now the question is, whether this magic had other effect as ours, but that is a question that has to remain unsolved until we find some rune-magic made artifacts.

Female Changeling(Hulking) Bard/10 (HP: 82/82; AC27; FF23; T14; F+7, R+11, W+7; Perc: +11, Init +10)

Do we have anything that would be Runemagic based? I know we have found some stuff - what about the amulet that Karlan has? Sorry to be asking this, but I am not entirely sure what was found before I joined, although Ailetha assuredly would have been told at some point.

Is there some way that I can contact you when we do find such an artifact? Considering what we have faced so far, I have no doubt that something of this nature will turn up before long.

Also, before the kids all disperse, I will buy them all a good meal.

Male Human Paladin 10| AC 28 T 14 FF 26 | HP 99/99 | F +15 R +10 W +13 | Init +2| REACH

Karlan sold off the amulet shortly after the encounter with Xenasha.

You can contact me at the university, it's a side building of the Grand Library, when you ask for me, they can surely tell you if I#m here at the excavation site or in my office. But let me forewarn you, many before you have searched for Thassilonian artifacts, and very rarely has someone found one. he smiles and you bet he has met dozens of adventurers who promised to return with ancient Thassilonian runeworks.

I guess everything is said now and you can meet up again? I'm not even sure where?!

With that said, Ailetha and Celestra leave the Irespan with their gang of boys - Tino and his friends are much quieter on the way back, this special excursion has really impressed the boys and they can't thank you enough for taking them with you.

What a coincidence - just the way the AP wants it :)

Without a firm lead on Xanesha, we wont be going off to crack her head. I'm just hoping we are setting off at the right level/equipment... was a bit dubious as to whether they really think about the level of the players on these AP's in that Xanesha fight; the current fun in SD for example... that many dudes? At level 4? In a low wealth campaign!?

Ok, then we will advance into Part III of the AP now "Hook Mountain Massacre - what a nice title. You definitely need a fifth party member, otherwise you will have a very hard time surviving :( Maybe ask around in your other campaigns?

Thats encouraging :p Finding active players that stick seems a bit problematic. That said, who is free in HoR perhaps?

As far as players I can;'t really think of anyone specifically. Plenty of characters who probably wouldn't work that well though.

If your background was 2-3 lines followed by "I plan on developing it through the campaign", I don't think I would recommend the player.

Celestra arrives at the pub and is delighted to see Harry and Karlan having a drink.

"Hello gents! Did you start with out me?! Well, that's ok. Let me buy you another round to keep you going!"

"Lets get these drinks down then off to the Mayor and see what he has in store for us."

Harry still looks worn and jaded from the last night activities.

More discussion about the Irespan or shall we jump to the mayor?

Harry has always had good manners, and has refrained from kiss and tell behaviour. Besides, you get more when the ladies know you are 'very discrete'

Is that so? :) I have to google if there's a "Shifty's 100 Pick-Up hints" book :)

"Miss Zomesco, it's sort of like this see. Riddleport is one big tavern, and not a very nice one at that. I was raised in such a place, real saw-dust on the floor whorehouses full of nasty men doinging nasty business, and not too worried about whom or what they did it to. Places like these have been a blessing and a curse, they provided me with lots of opportunity to eke out a coin battering most of the life out of men in order to collect on debts they owed, and I wasn't to interested in them crying about feeding their starving kids none either. A debt was a debt, and a job was a job. Some of those fellows found themselves bound hand and foot and delivered by yours truly to other men, in nice taverns like this, and those bound fellows never made it back out of the cellar."

"It's not all bad though, as after all, it is also places like this that put wenches in my bed and gold sails in my pockets, I have made a pretty good life out of places like this, but I don't see any reason to stay in 'em any longer than I need to."

"Besides, I'm trying to turn over a new leaf and leave some of that dark business behind and listen to that nice voice that the good Sir Karlan says I should be listening to, the one about principles and standing for something, and I wont find neither principles nor something worth standing for in a booze hall. The Mayor needs help, people are in trouble, and I am set on helping them"

"It's an interesting thing being half a monster, sometimes it makes you try forget you are also half a man, well I don't want to forget about being a man, but that monster wont be forgotten either... so I reckon setting myself to decent service for a good cause, even doing bloody work, well that's got to be a balance doesn't it?"

"Well good for you, Harry. I'm actually proud of an old pirate like you trying to change your ways. I respect that, but Just don't be treating the pub like its a dirty word. You know what they say about all work and no play, don't yeh? Besides, Cayden Cailean has been looking after us and it hasn't been because we are so well behaved between the adventures yeh know. A good time and a toast to the Drunken Hero can only help our chances when the going gets tough. Well, if I can't persuade you to stay any longer, then I may as well join you. Let's go find the mayor and see what he wants."

The fast approaching fall sends its messengers again, strong winds and drizzling rain greet you as you step out of the tavern into the bustling streets of Magnimar. Wrapping your cloaks tighter you make your way up to the plateau where the mayor's mansion lies at the edge of the cliff. This time you don't have to discuss with servants or guards - Media has already waited for you at the gate. A business-like smiles spreads on her face as she notices you

Ah, mayor Grobaras has already asked for you. He has found another adventurer to fill-up the ranks of your party. Please come in, he wants to introduce her to you and explain the last details of your coming journey.

The gardens look much less exotic today and you even feel a bit sorryful for the fragile looking palm trees that are suffering from the wind.

Skip the limitations on the search. Try just looking for female or female human/elf. Really, I would just look through the female ones as there are a ton of untyped female pics out there - for outsiders and the like - that are really cool. If you want to stick with this one, that is fine, just seems strange since they are so similar with the tattoos/patterns on their face together with the hair color.
