Sebastian DeGray |
"Winter, I have a healing wand if you prefer to save some spells in case someone awaits us in the cave."
If needed
2 for Caterine
clw wand -> 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
clw wand -> 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
3 for Bree
clw wand -> 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
clw wand -> 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
clw wand -> 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Wand 45/50
Kabal Breven |
Agreed.
The mercenary put a hand on the boy's shoulder and spoke directly to him.
Mercus, you handled yourself well. Not many men can say they've been that close to those beasts and survived. Now, can you show us the rest of the way to the cave?
Winter Snow |
"We must clear the island of this menace so that Riddleport may be spared the anguish and suffering of the foul beasts within. These creatures are as rabid wolves, and can only be destroyed... attempting husbandry with them would be folly"
Sebastian DeGray |
Shivering slightly as the rugged Taldan works his magic, Caterine gives him a rogueish smile "My thanks Sebastian." She then falls in a prepares to follow the others onwards to the cave.
Sebastian gives her a wink, "Just one of my talents." He gives the wand a twirl and almost drops it, before he catches it clumsily and tucks it back into his belt
Bree Longfield |
Bree watches the encounter between Sebastian and Caterine. She rolls her eyes and says to Sebastian, "Not another one? Won't the other two be jealous?"
She gives Samaritha a wink as she passes by her to stand near Mercus. "You alright, kid? You're looking a little pale."
DM Zyren / Heart of Riddles |
Samaritha gives the catching Sebastian a smack on his bottom with her wand and just shakes her head
So many talents, so few morals...
Mercus looks at Kabal and the presence of the fearless warrior makes the boy hide his fear
No problem, follow me, to the cave!
Soon you leave the fir woods and hear the sound of the rolling ocean again. In front of you looms a giant bluff, reminding you of an outstretched arm pointing towards the sky. The stone is at least 60 feet high and on the landside surrounded by small bushes. There is no recognizable cave entrance and as the boy notices your questioning looks, he explains
Well, the entrance is on the seaside of the bluff...a narrow ledge... about 3 feet wide leads around it...
Kabal Breven |
The big man's eyebrows rose at the lad's description of the ledge and he couldnt agree more with the witch's assessment and remembered one of his first lessons in soldiering...size is not always an advantage...
You got that right Sable. I'll be wishing I had wings like Korax. My mother said these shoulders woudl be the death of me. Although I always thought she meant in regards to women...
He said it stone faced but it happened to be one of those rare times where he attempted humor.
Caterine Gabor |
Taking in the size of the rock and the description of the thin ledge, Caterine has no intentions of being the first to walk along it and be stranded. Standing slightly back and arms crossed she alights next to Bree talking quietly "Only two then?"
Bree Longfield |
Bree sniffs slightly but then gives Caterine one of her odd smiles, "I haven't known him all that long, but it seems to me the women love his charm. He... uh, sometimes gets wrapped up in the moment when a pretty girl smiles at him. Not me, of course, he knows I'd stab him if he tried kissing on me," Bree looks at the ledge and shrugs, "I'll go first. Kabal, if Croat could make it I'm sure you can too."
Acrobatics of climb to begin, Zyren?
DM Zyren / Heart of Riddles |
Samaritha sighs, her ankle is still swollen after the the escape from the tower and she does not look like climbing was very appealing to her.
Hey, I will stay here and cover your back, ok? I'm not very into climbing you know.
She finally says.
Mercus has already run ahead to the beginning of the ledge. Like he said, it's just a very narrow stone sill - beneath it, about 30m below you is only the ocean, crashing against the rocky wall of the island.
Mercus sets his foot on the ledge and says
Watch out, it's pretty slippery thanks to all the gull droppings.
Acrobatic roll, please
Kabal Breven |
Kabal was becoming more and more impressed with Riddleport's civilians.
Huh? You'd rather stay here and maybe face more akatas alone than risk a little, treacherous climb? You're made of stern stuff lass, stern stuff indeed. Be careful with this one Sebastian.
He eyed the ledge dubiously and watched where Bree placed her feet carefully before easing out after the willfull woman. He felt better about such things since their chase on the Arch but was still trepeditious considering his bulk.
Acrobatics - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Sebastian DeGray |
"Me? I am always the gentleman." Sebastian eyes the guano covered path a moment, "As such, Ladies first.", he says with a bow and a proffered arm toward the trail.
Acrobatics -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Sable Eboncrow |
Sable doesn't concern himself much with the ledge, being accustomed to perching in narrow places, and trusting his witchery if he should slip. He follows last.
To Samaritha, "If Anything comes this way, even hanging onto the ledge is your best bet since saltwater seems to be the anathema to them. Shout if anything happens."
Acrobatics 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
If Caterine's footing isn't solid, Sable will either reach out to grab her, or dive after her.
Attempt to grab Cat if she falls 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
DM Zyren / Heart of Riddles |
Samaritha nods and says
Don't worry, I'll still be here when you return and...
before she can speak on Cat slips, but with one agile move is able to grab the edge of the ledge with one hand.
There is a split second in which the world seems to stand still and all of you hold their breath waiting to see if the muscles in her fingers are strong enough to save her...and yes, she still clings to the edge.
One of you: STR check DC 10 to pull her up again.
Sable Eboncrow |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
That's why Sable went last, so if anybody fell he could dive after them and levitate back up... or worse case scenario and they get eaten by megashark before he reaches them, feather fall and levitate to save his own feathers.
"Nice talons, Bree."
Winter Snow |
Winter was a little surprised at the slip, but continues his preparation and re-donning his armour.
He keeps an eye out for any danger that might be coming their way regardless..
Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Caterine Gabor |
A curse half formed on her lips as she started to drop, though stilled there when she managed to get a hold on the cliff. When hauled back up by Bree she is contrite and thankful "The thanks of the sea lord to you... whatever is ahead I'd still prefer it to the fall." before clutching the wall and making to where the footing is more stable.
Bree Longfield |
Bree's cheeks flush momentarily, shrugging once again she says, "Yeah... well, I'm sure we need all the help we can get in there... so, yeah, glad you didn't fall..." As she continues on she can be heard to repeat "Thanks of the sea lord..." under her breath in that odd way that Bree often does.
DM Zyren / Heart of Riddles |
Now even more cautious than before you slowly balance along the ledge and around the bluff until a yawning black opening at the seaside of the cliff comes into view.
Mercus has already taken a crouching position next to it and signals to be quiet. Silently he whispers
I heard something from inside - a low wail!?
The boy's voice is scarcely audible with the thundering waves below you.
Sable Eboncrow |
Using message to whisper to Mercus, Bree, Sebastian, and Winter, "Keep quiet then, lest something hear us. Sebastian and I can use these enchanted whispers. Sebastian, please relay this to Caterine and Kabal. We must flit very quietly."
Sable cranes his neck to listen to the opening.
Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Bree Longfield |
OK, for some reason it's not letting me edit my last post. Every time I try it bumps me back to the first page of this thread. I forgot to add:
Bree nods her head in response to Sable's whispered words, and eases her knives, which she had to put up while crossing the ledge, back out of their sheathes.
Kabal Breven |
Kabal was still trying to figure out where Bree got the strength to pull Caterine up so easily when he got the whispered message. With the way he was armed if he moved it was going to make noise so he stood stock still; thankful to have made it past the ledge.
Kabal Breven |
Realizing that if they were attacked by something that Winter would be at a severe disadvantage until he was once again wrapped in steel; Kabal risked going over and assisting him.
Reduce time to don armor by half. 2 minutes if rushing.
DM Zyren / Heart of Riddles |
Cautiously and without much noise you enter the cave. The walls are salt crusted and after the opening the tunnel leads steeply down until it roughly reaches sea level after about 30m. The slope is so steep that you have to skitter down on your bottoms not to slip.
Once you have made it down the slope you find yourself in a large lagoon-like cave. The water to your left has lost all its power after breaking against the cliff and it's rather quiet inside this cave. Mercus points ahead, where the tunell branches off and whispers
The wail must have com from there.
The boy was right to whisper since there is a strong echo in these tunnels amplifying every sound.
