Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

Speaking to the group in Common, "For those who could not understand Korax, it seems that those who were fighting these akatas are rising again after being slain. What strange beasts are these?"

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

Dark and Empty! Like this trip couldnt get worse. Now we'll have to kill sh1t twice. Just fecking great!

Kabal was getting angry and started pushing his way through the brush to the west the way Sebastian indicated.

"Well nothing has to be killed twice as long as we kill them properly once, it seems"

move to the west

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Once again Bree will attempt to do some scouting for the group headed in the new direction.

Witchlight

The ascent to the top of the hill isn't much easier on the western side, where there is less undergrowth but the slope is even more steep. Still, after about an hour or two you reach the top the hill after you have followed a winding pathway during the last leg of your climb.

Now the ruins of Withchlight lie before you. Several white houses, with clearly visible marks left by time and weather surround a large tower in the middle. Vultures circle above it tip and there the strange flash of light must have sourced.

Besides the vultures there are no animals or humanoids visible and a strange atmosphere of dark tension lies over the village.

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

"We want to end up in that tower, I'm sure, but we shouldn't overlook the smaller buildings. People could easily hide there, guards or a simple ambush."

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

At this point Id be happy if all we faced were simple guards and such. But good idea on clearing each building before we get to the tower. Go on pick one then.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

Using his feral speech, Sable calls up to vultures in their tongue,

Avian:
"Feathered friends, do we fly to an empty nest? Predators? Food?"

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

"East to West then..."

Winter moves to the east building.

"We can start here"

@ Sable: Please roll Handle Animal. Afterwards we will procede.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

Sadly it isn't a class skill for Witch and for some reason I haven't invested any ranks in it, so I cannot use it untrained.

If Diplomacy works, 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

You may use it untrained in this special case. Normally humans aren't able to speak animal language, so I will allow it now, since you speak Avian. Still I would recommend investing a skill point next level.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

Handle Animal 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Yeah definitely investing in that next level.

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

You got it Winter.

Kabal will take a moment to listen at the door.

Perception - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

If he hears nothing too ominous he'll kick it in with his trusty falcata at the ready.

Strength - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Male Half-Elf (Taldan) Bard (Archivist) 7 Drow Stats 51/51 hp;AC 19/T 14/FF 16; F +2/R +8/W +3; Int/Wis Skills -1

Sebastian catches Bree's eye, and with a nod of his head he indicates that he is thinking the same thing. He will spare an eye to see if Kabal run's into any trouble, but his attention will be on peering around the building to watch for additional trouble.

Perception -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

My post was deleted because I recalled (well was reminded by Sable) that Zyren wanted to wait until after he'd dealt with the consequences of Sable's actions before we moved on.

EDIT: I suppose for the sake of clarity I could have left it up and made a notation. The post read: "When Winter suggests the east building first, Bree readily agrees as this is the one she would have chosen herself. As she moves over to the building, following behind Winter trying to be quiet and discreet she sees Kabal approach the building and listen at the door. When he proceeds to kick the door in, Bree can only stop and shake her head in wonderment. So much for sneaking in through a window or a back door... if there is anyone in those other buildings, they probably heard that...

Bree looks to each of the other buildings looking for any sign of movement, suggesting that our presence has been discovered and we might be about to have company.

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21"

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

Winter gets his sword ready, unsure of what might choose to attack them.

Well, who cares about birds anyway, eh?

While Sable communicates with the purple vulture, Kabal approaches the first building.

Sable:

The vulture seems not unfriendly and reports of about a dozen "featherless" who were attacked between the "stones piles" by "blue lions". They lost many of their flock, but while they looked dead, they returned to soar again after a time and fled into the "stone piles".

Kabal kicks the door in and staggers back as he is greeted by a horrific abomination

The creature snarls and roars, but does not attack imediately.

Knowledge Local Dc 18:

The thing wears the torn robes of a cyphermage.

Witchlight

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

Kabal didnt even try to hide the horror writ plainly on his face.

What in the Nine Hells is that?

Heeding the priest's advice he takes a 5' step back from the door and readies an attack if it tries to come out of the building.

Power Attack - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Damage - 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Bree glances into the building when Kabal makes such an exclamation about what he has seen. There isn't quite enough light for her to make out much, and she's certainly not going in there, not while the others hold back. She continues to eye the other buildings, knives drawn as they wait to see if this thing will be coming out after them.

Know. Local -> 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

"That thing is a cypher mage, or was. Those are the robes they wear. It seems that was the second team whittled down."

The "thing" paces along the far wall of the ruined building, it seems to assess the situation...the ugly grey and extremely longue tongue nearly hangs down to its pelvis and you wonder what could have caused such a rapid zombiefication of the Cyphermage.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

"My feathered friends have told me there are more or less a dozen that fell and walk again scattered throughout these buildings. Uncertain if any akata remain in the area though, so be on guard my friends."

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Sable scans the area, and calls back to the vulture,

Avian:
"Thank you, my friends. What meat falls from foes belongs to you!"

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

"When was the last time a Zombie stopped and thought?" Winter asks curiously.

Detect Evil

A faint aura of evil is emanated by the creature.

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

"It has the usual taint of Evil about it, so it is still a Zombie no doubt, but a thinking one is concerning. We already know that the fallen can turn into these...things. Who has a bow or a crossbow, please put the creature to rest"

Winter readies an attack for when the creature comes at them

Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 3 = 11

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Bree draws and loads her crossbow, aiming it at the "thing" in the building she pauses and looks to Winter, "Are you sure you don't want to try talking to it first?"

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

"Hmmm..."

"You there, identify yourself or be slain!"

Argahluorgha!

growls the grey creature as you address it.

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

"Oh..."

Winter now looks confused.

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

"Winter it may not have thought, but more of a primeval purpose to spread its disease. Put it down from afar if we can."

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Bree looks around the group, and since there seems to be no protests she shrugs then fires.

Crossbow 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage 1d8 ⇒ 1
Super!

"I don't think that did much," She says as she steps back to reload, assuming that it doesn't just stand there waiting for her to reload and shoot again.

With a wet *thump* the arrow hits the creature and it gurgles angrily, then it rushes over intending to atack Kabal, but the seasoned warrior had anticipated that and with one quick strike cuts the creature down.

After a short moment of silence you hear someone calling from the top of the tower

Sebastian? Is that really you?

You can hardly make out who is calling though.

Perception DC 18:

But then you spot a blonde elven woman - it's Samaritha!

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Bree is much more interested in whether she looks injured. "It's that friend of yours, Sam-something."

Liberty's Edge

Male Elf Witch/10 (HP: 27/27; AC15; FF13; T15; F+2, R+5, W+10; Perc: +31, Init +2)

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

"Sebsastian... it's Samaritha. But how?"

Male Half-Elf (Taldan) Bard (Archivist) 7 Drow Stats 51/51 hp;AC 19/T 14/FF 16; F +2/R +8/W +3; Int/Wis Skills -1

Sebastian moves to get a good look at the tower. He calls on some of his magical power and points up to her while casting Message. In a voice barely above a whisper, "Quietly my dear. We don't want to attract too much attention. Are there more survivors with you and are there any Akatas..um...the blue lion things still about?"

1 person marked this as a favorite.
male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

"Heres Sebastian rescuing his lady-love from a tower surrounded by nasty beasts, and here I was thinking this was just in fairy tales"

Winter looks genuinely warmed.

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

"I thought he loved that other one, that... ah, um... Lora?" Bree says quietly to Winter.

Sebastian, "Make sure she isn't injured. We don't know for sure what's causing this... she could be infected."

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

Winters warmed look takes a slight cooling.

"Oh. Well I suppose you might well be right, I have a hard time keeping up with all the paramours floating about"

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Bree chuckles and offers one of her rare, genuinely endearing smiles.

A whisper is carried over to Sebastian as Samaritha answers

Three of twelve are left. These monsters attacked us yesterday and slew most of us, even Archmage Alundra. We barricaded in the tower using Pyrotechnics to call for help. There are infected zombies in the houses and maybe some of these lions too, I don't know. Oh I'm so happy that you have come!

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

Winter detects magic on the fallen body, then moves back into the building to ensure it is clear. (Detect Magic in there too!)

Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24

No magic auras clinging to the body or the house.

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

Was there anything of note inside?

As you enter and move around the house's walls and roof suddenly begans to creak threateningly...search on?

male Aasimar Clr 3/Pal4 HP:62/62, AC:21/T:12/FF:21 - Percep: +13(Dark Vis) F:+10/R:+5/W:+14 CMD: 20, Spd: 20ft, Init: +2

Winter backs out.

"I wouldn't suggest standing around in there, sounds as though the place might fall in"

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

Ever the pragmatist; Kabal was searching the daed man's body when Winter gave his warning.

He'll drag the man's body outside where he can search at his leisure.

Perception (take 10) - 10 + 10 = 20

The tattered robes of a cyphermage, a small flask with some kind of spirit and a dagger are the only things the dead one possesses. During your search you spot hundreds of small holes in his skin, holes that must have been caused by larvae or something similar that crawled out of his body.

Male Human Weapon Master 6 ~ Inv. Rager 4 | AC 24 T 13 FF 22 | HP 129/129 | F +14 R +6 W +7 | Init +2

Kabal quickly wiped his hands in case any of the disgusting larva happened to be on him.

Gods be damned but thats a horrible way to go. I pity this man and any other that fell prey to such a thing.
