Agreed. Cummings nods and toegther you go to Mrs. Hobbes.

As you're about 50m away from her house you suddenly spot Miller coming out of the front door, shaking his head and pointing with his finger at Mrs. Hobbes' door. Even though you can't understand what he's saying it sounds like a curse or threat...

The professor cleans his glasses from the road dust and mutters

Ohoh...

"Hide?" whispers Charlie frantically, ducking into the nearest bit of shadow until the group decides to either keep going or wait for Miller to leave.

Stealth 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Male Human Offensive Option 3

Daniel trie exactly that - if possible he takes stays in the shadows of one of the other houses, hoping Miller doesn't see him and hoping the others try to do the same
Stealth 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

After leaving the veranda, Miller pauses, turns around and shouts

You know what we can do to you...to everyone! Stop being so stubborn or...!

The last words are only whispered but Mrs. Hobbes who has come out of her door, covers her mouth in sheer terror.

"Well look here, I have had enough of that. That r@tf&ck sonofab1tch has gone too far this time."

Murphy walks out in the open.

"Listen pal, you're outta line, you can't threaten the average Joe like that and get away with it, I'm going to take this up with your Chief or Commissioner... I ain't no punk, I know how things work, and you've gone too far buddy."

Murphy has his jacket over his arm and bag, concealing the pistol he is actually holding.

Cummings curses silently, but follows Murphy into the open.

Miller hectically turns to Murphy, sweat runs over his forehead and it's a bit a high noon situation...

What? You don't tell me how I should do my job, do you? You're just a lousy reporter, so f%*# off and get out of my sight, before I arrest you.

"Arrested for what? Being a witness to a flatfoot who doesn't know his job? I spent my time with a shield back in New York, not some nickel and dime backwater and I'll be damned if I am going to stand by and watch decent and honest folk be unlawfully harassed by the likes of you... so scram before I have to file a report you might not like"

Intimidate 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Daniel sighs. He fiddles with his hair until it looks a bit like it did in 'The deadly passion', one of his best known movies, then he steps forward, a little overarticulating his gestures, like he did for the silver screen.

Although he is not armed, he prepares a monologe in his mind, reminding Mr Miller, that it might draw unwanted attention to him if 'Danilo Giordani' is arrested on the fiel trip 'his studio arranged for him to research his next movie', but he waits for miller reaction, before he starts talking...
in case it is needed to see how his improvised changing into Danilo Giuovanni works: disguise (or acting, both at at the same level): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Miller points at you and shakes his head

You Mr. Loudmouth don't know whom you are threatening...I will... he again shakes his head

I'm sorry, maybe the sun...and those strange murders, maybe I've reacted a bit too harshly. Let's be friends again, kay?

He smiles, but you hardly trust his quick change of attitude.

"Yeah it has been a bit of an odd time for all of us, perhaps you just needed to blow off some steam. We can be friends, that would be swell. Perhaps you should go grab that coffee and take the rest of the day off, nothing happening here worth looking into, my friends and I will just take a walk back to the bus and take another look around, maybe the driver made his way back. Tomorrow morning we can all meet up with cooler heads and try work out whats what eh? Whatcha say buddy, meet tomorrow morning with clear heads and a fresh breakfast?"

Miller smiles...you seem to have convinced him

Agreed, you're a clever man...I know you would understand a cop's dilemma.

He nods to the rest and walks away.

The professor now also leaves the hideout and asks

But you weren't serious, were you?

Professor wrote:

But you weren't serious, were you?

Murphy looks at the Professor, slightly incredulous, as if the Professor just grew another head.

"No."

Murphy shakes his head.

The professor grimaces

Sorry Murphy.. just being nervous. Ok, we should get our bags now, but we shouldn't tell Mrs. Hobbes that...hey, look over there?!

The professor points at a young man you haven't seen before here in Dunwich who climbs onto the veranda from the side and grabs Mr. Cheeps from his cage. He twists the bird's neck, before he throws the small creature against the Mrs. Hobbes' door.

F!#~!

curses Cummings!

Male Human Offensive Option 3

In a (fairly stupid) fit of rightuous fury, a completly unarmed and definatly not fit for fighting Daniel runs toward the unscrupulous birdkiller, trying to bring him down...

Murphy sees Daniel run and follows. The Bird Killer is destined for a beating.

"What the sh*t?" Charlie stammers as he follows more slowly than the others, looking around for any ways the Bird Killer might escape, or if he has any friends.

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Murphy and Daniel race after the brutal boy, but when Charle tries to follow them, Cummings grabs him violently by the arm.

Hey, stop, over there!

He points at two men, one a shotgun in his hands, waiting in another dark corner observing the scene.

Murphy and Daniel have meanhwile ran around the corner of the house and follow the lad up a slope of a low hill. Roots stick out of the ground and it's not easy not to fall.

Acrobatics Check Dc 10 please.

DM Roll:

Acrobatics1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Male Offensive Option

Waiting for a moment, Victor looks at the scene. First rule of battle: Don't rush in until you know what you are rushing into. Looking where Cummings is pointing as well, Victor places his hand upon his pistol in the shoulder holster under his tweed jacket, preparing to aid the other two should the two in the alley do something.

1d20 ⇒ 1

Murphy loses his footing, going for a slide...

The boy fares no better, luckily he was in advance, but if Daniel is a bit more agile than Murphy, he might grab the lad.

Male Human Offensive Option 3

Acrobatics Check1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Daniel is indeed more agile, those roots are't worse then power lines, cables and bad carpentry on stage. He tries to grab the birdkiller and, well, beat him up, switching between the real thing he learned as a drifter and the stylish yet ineffective attacks called physical acting.

Looks like Fortuna likes Daniel today:

The boy tries to crawl up the hill, but trips, and slides directly into Daniel's arms. You punch him in the face twice, before you suddenly hear a shot behind you.

The two men have stepped out from behind the corner of the house and the man with the shotgun is aiming at you

Le' me boy go, ci'y slicker!

Male Human Offensive Option 3

Daniel freezes, his fist already up for the next blow, as he stares into the barrel of the shotgun. His teeth grinding, he forces his eyes off gunto look into the face of its owner.
"Your rat of a boy just killed an old gals pet and only companion man."
He tosses the boy with all the force he can muster through his fear toward his 'old man'.
"So you better continue where I left off"
Daniel tries his best, not to flinch as he looks into the mans eyes and to amplify the anger written in his face through whatever he remembers from his acting lesson.
In case it is necessary - acting (for intimidate reduce the result by four):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Murphy is still holding his pistol hidden by his thigh as he stands almost side on to the men.

"Take your brat child and give him a good kick eh? Whats next, torturing locals?"

Daniel Perception Dc 10:

You notice the Believer's tattoo on the boy's wrist

You pull the boy up and push him down the slope. Scramblingly he runs to his father who is about to begin to start the next tirade of threats as suddenly Mrs. Hobbes' cry pierces through the moment of silence

Mr. Cheeps! Oh Mr. Cheeps, what has happened to you?! Who did that!

The shotgun wielder just bellows back

Ask the strangers!

Then he, his son and the other man quickly leave the scene.

Meanwhile Cummings' face has become a mask of red hot anger

This f#@@er is so lucky that I had to give my gun away!

Male Human Offensive Option 3

perception1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Daniel is unsure if they should even talk to poor Mrs. Hobbes. Though it breaks his heart, he is afraid that might put her in even greater danger. He walks upt to his fellows, to just silently leave this decision to them, while fighting against the bitterness and the rotten urge to drown it in booze.

Tumbleweed?

Male Human Offensive Option 3

still watching the tumbleweed...

Male Offensive Option

Mrs. Hobbes we need to speak to you right now. There was a group of men that came and one of them killed your bird for some reason we cannot fathom. Please come inside with us. Victor will try to get her into the house before anything else happens.

Murphy Lets Dr Aldern take the lead on conversation. He is more concerned with watching his surroundings, half expecting a confrontation.

Mrs. Hobbes offers no resistance as you lead her inside. Like hypnotised she walks into the kitchen and slumps down a chair.

With tears in her eyes she looks at Victor and asks sobbingly

Who...who did that?

Male Human Offensive Option 3

Now the decision is made, Daniel still tries to protect Mrs. Hobbs from the potential wrath of the cultists he already learned to fear. He gets down on one knee beside her and places a hand on her shoulder around her neck. Talking smoothly and not too loud, he tries to give the worst description of the boy he thinks he can reasonably get away with.

"Mrs. Hobbes. I am so awfully sorry. I could hardly believe it when I saw it. How could anyone do that. It all happened t6o fast, but I could see it was all but a boy, between five and six fet tall, nothing special about him so I, a stranger to these people could hope to describe him any better. His complexion...well, he did not appear to be the most vibrant flower in gods garden...Oh, dear Mrs. Hobbes, if there is anything I could possibly do to make you feel a little better..."

Mrs. Hobbes seems hardly able to listen to you

They did that because I housed you...Miller warned me...

She sniffs and asks for a handkerchief.

Turning to the others, Charlie says quietly, "We should go. We'll only make things worse for Mrs. Hobbes if we stay here..." but he seems very conscious of the dangers implied by finding somewhere else to stay for the night.

"Maybe a mad dash through the night is the best idea..."

The professor nods

Mr. Poolsworth, I think you're right. We should hurry and get on our way to the Whateley Farm!

Cummings takes Murphy aside and whispers

Hey, what about leaving a gun here? Mrs. Hobbes could need it...just in case, you know?

The professor has meanwhile gone back to the front door and mutters

These gruuesome kid who killed the bird is out there...watching us. We have to leave the house without being observed, otherwise they will know what we are going to do.

Male Human Offensive Option 3

Daniel steps to the professor. Since hopefully, he is far enough away from Mrs. Hobbbes and there arre others talking in the room, he hopes she doesn't hear him whispering into the Professors ear:

"They killed that man who wanted to talk about the cult, right, without even knowing what or to whom he talked. What do you think, will happen to Mrs. Hobbes, if we just escape from Town?. I think, if we flee, we must flee with enough evidence, that the Marshalls will swarm this damned town and arrest every one of those bastards. If we cannot do that, we must somehow take care of the old lady. She has suffered enough because of us."

The professor pats your arm and nods

You're absolutely correct, Daniel...my intestinals twist painfully when I think about leaving her behind...

"If we sneak off, they may kill Mrs. Hobbes. If we leave and try to take her with us, they'll probably find us and kill us all. At this point, I'm ready to steal a car." Charlie's jaw is set, but his cheeks are twitching with fear.

Cummings joins you at the door and mutters

I'll stay here. Just leave a gun here...I will protect her while you get the car. Oh and don't start a discussion, I will stay, you go.

The determined tone of his voice signals clearly that he does not want to hear any arguments.

Oh dear, we have nearly ground to a halt :(

Well. I was quiet for a few days in all of my campaigns there for a while, but I'm here and ready to keep going. Stealing a car sounds pretty exciting :) but who knows if the other characters are going to let Charlie go through with it...

"Alright, then. Who knows anything about that sort of thing? We could try to get a key, otherwise we'll have to be a little more clever."

Male Human Offensive Option 3

"I know, I already said that, but stealing a car might could really make things worse. Miller could pursue us as criminals on the run, not suspects. He could easily persuade policemen across the country to use force to stop us, or even drag us back here - and nobody believes a carjacker."
I hope it was just a short stop, let's hobble on for a few days and see if the others return so we could take up speed again...

Male Offensive Option

Hey guys sorry about the delays. Sold my house and looking for a job so its been kind of nuts. Going to new york tomorrow but I should be back pretty steady by this weekend. Again my apologies I love this game so I hope to keep going.

Victor looks at the group and says Stealing a car may be prudent. This is getting quickly out of hand. We need to find a way to communicate with the outside. LEt's get to the Whately farm. Victor pulls his pistol, chambers a round and gets an entirely new look to his face. You can now see the man that survived the trenches of the great war. Mrs. Hobbes, forgive me madam but you need to come with us. You are not safe here. He looks at the others and says Gentlemen, if anything occurs get Mrs. Hobbes to safety. Let's go. Victor will move to the front door and walk outside, the pistol in plain view, his rucksack on his back.

Charlie gulps loudly. "Here we go, then..."

Before they leave the house, Charlie is going to search around for anything small and concealable that might be usable as a weapon of sorts.

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

"Well I think that particular Policeman is an offence to the job. The sooner we can get out of here and report him the better - if we have to steal a ride to make that happen, well I'm ok with that, I'm sure we can shine that over later"

Murphy keeps pistol and coat in hand, in case any of these crazies gets any ideas about stopping him getting out of town.

Male Human Defensive Option

I've just been super slow after getting back from Wales, sorry about that.

"If the situation becomes dire enough that our only option is too flee I can probably get a car started without too much trouble. I'll leave driving it to someone else however. For the moment I agree with Victor that Mrs. Hobbes will be much safer with all of us than with only one protector, however tenacious he may be. Safety in numbers and all that."

Following Victor's lead, James retrieves his own pistol from his briefcase and chambers a round before making certain that the safety is still on. He then moves to follow Victor, keeping his pistol hidden with his jacket and nervously scanning the surrounds of the house for any signs of their apparent enemies.

"I can handle the driving... I've done my fair share of high-speed chase scenes in the pictures." Charlie's eyes sparkle at the thought of getting behind the wheel again. "But we still have that problem of too many people. Now we have yet another person, and no car whatsoever. We could aim for some kind of truck, or maybe even two cars."

Cummings nods and maybe he is even a bit relieved that he hasn't to stay here.

Ok, as the professor said, let's get to the Whateley Farm. If this Old Man Whateley guy really has a truck, this could be the solution to all our problems, kay?

Cummings opens the door and steps out to the veranda, there he hesitates and whispers back to you

Mhh...what about the backdoor? I mean, this kid will tell everyone that we leave and where we head to, huh?

The professor has meanwhile walked over to Mrs. Hobbes and tried to explain her that the Believers will also harm her if she stays.

Yay for activity!

"We leave in one direction, then hook around, might throw them long enough to make the Whately farm... that kid follows us alone then we give him a seeing off"

So are we stealing a car, or walking to get that truck? Also, did Charlie find any sort of weapon?

Charlie sticks behind Murphy and Victor as they leave the house, knowing they are the ones with guns.

Being the good cook Mrs. Hobbes is, she has an assortment of knifes in all sizes.
