Zaladrel Orain |
Zaladrel rises from the claw marks and frowns. Though young by my people's standards I am old enough to know better. This was not a regular animal that did this damage. We best be vigilant against potential creatures as well.
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
"It would take quite a foe to do such damage to Ulfen vessel. It is strange, though, that ship's owner left. Sailing vessels are pride of my people. For drakkar to have been left for any length of time makes me worry for the fate of those who were board." before looking to Zaladrel, offering a nod as he straightens, tkaing his axe in hand. "Agreed. We should be cautious in this place. We cannot fail Ameiko and the others."
Zaladrel Orain |
Zaladrel takes on a grim expression and slowly draws his sword as he moves forward to look at the shape Runa has noted.
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Úlf creeps forward slowly toward the mass on the beach, straining his eyes to try and get a good look at it. Is it flesh? How large is the mass? Is it breathing or moving at all? He doesn't approach closer than about 50 feet or so just yet, afraid that his utter lack of stealth would betray their presence before they are ready to disturb whatever the shape is.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Seeing that it's a corpse on the beach, Úlf approaches a bit more quickly toward the shape, though he doesn't loosen the grip on his axe in the least. Recent experience has taught him that the dead don't always stay dead.
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Úlf looks back to the others, calling to them in a voice that is loud enough for them to hear, but low enough that it won't carry over the ruined city.
"Is dead, friends. Is some kind of...dragon-serpent. It looks to have been dead for two or three weeks now. Is perhaps what damaged the drakkar so badly...maybe whoever was on-board killed it.
Runa |
Runa looks over the dead creature, but seems much more interested on the boat. She wraps her arms around herself, and shivers. Tofa give a plantive whine that draws her attention back to where she is.
"Well I guess the next stop should be the keep. Lead on Ulf, tofa and I shall be close behind."
DM Wellard |
You make your way through the deserted village finding a Smithy and a Bakery..it seems that the village is battered but not destroyed, from the Smithy you can get a good view up the hill towards the keep. There is also a Glassworks which, in style, bears a remarkable similarity to the much larger one in Sandpoint.
Lissa Tesarani |
Lissa wanders through the desolate streets of the village in a daze. Only one thought is running through her mind - It's just like home. She shakes her head as they continue to the castle, trying in vain to rid her mind of the melancholy that seems to be slowly increasing as they approach closer and closer to the castle's walls.
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Hearing her voice, Úlf shakes himself out of the daze he continually finds himself in from seeing how eerily similar Brinewall is to Sandpoint and looks to Omara, nodding his agreement. "Is good plan. Is better to find out about any enemies now than when we are at front gate."
Zaladrel Orain |
What maybe an hour at most, just to see if as the day passes there is any obvious activity?
Zaladrel Orain |
Zaladrel shifts in place as the figures move by. How are they dressed? We should follow?
Lissa Tesarani |
Lissa crouches down and tries to get as good a look at the figures as she can without being herself spotted. Spells of all sorts run through her mind.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
This is the 3rd 4 in a row I've rolled on these boards today... It would seem Paizo is displeased with me for some reason, lol.
Zaladrel Orain |
Zaladrel blanches at raven headed humanoids. Desna be praised, are any of you familiar with such creatures? Do we attempt some manner of greeting?
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Úlf glances over to Zaladrel, shaking his head. "I have never seen such creatures. I do not know if they are hostile or not. Is probably good for us to not introduce ourselves by attacking, though. We will have enough enemies here without making more for ourselves. If we confront them now, is good chance we stop them from getting back to fort to warn any others. Assuming they cannot fly." he answers.
Even while suggesting a peaceful approach, though, Úlf's grip on his axe tightens.
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Úlf first looks to Omara, his eyes widening to mirror hers as she recalls the warning given by Ameiko in her coma. He then looks to Runa as she identifies the creatures, a sudden fierceness suddenly coming over his features. "Then no talk is needed. They are danger to us and others. We must put them down".
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
DM Wellard, how many dire corbies are there?
Whether Runa's hex is successful or not, Úlf charges as soon as she gets it off, knowing that the enemies will know magic was used against them regardless of its effect.
Is it possible to charge in this situation? Or no? Normally surprise rounds only allow a single action, so I don't know if charging is allowable here. Please let me know one way or the other and I'll go ahead and resolve the attack.
Zaladrel Orain |
3 figures Wellard noted in the initial description. If the way is clear charging is allowed in the surprise. One of the rare full round actions that is.
Zaladrel shakes his bag off pulling his shield. Ready to use his gifted speed to enter the fray as fast as he can.
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Gotcha. I see the three shapes now; didn't go back and re-read. Sorry! I'm going to go ahead and post a charge action for Úlf.
Úlf leans forward, pressing his weight down on one foot as he readies himself to return to the fray. The very moment Runa's spell goes off, he pushes off on that foot hard, rocketing out of the derelict smithy toward the dire corbies, aiming for one that is still standing.
Unlike normal, he makes the charge in utter silence, the only sound his heavy footfalls on the damp earth. No point in giving a war cry and letting anyone...or anything...in the castle know of their presence. His greataxe rises up over his right shoulder as he nears the group, picking his target and lunging forward, bringing his axe down in a diagonal chop to try and split one of the corbies open from one shoulder to the opposite hip, giving a muted grunt of effort as he puts his full strength into the blow.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Wow..not expecting that to hit, but if it does, that damage is bleh. Sheesh.
DM Wellard |
There is no obvious leader so Runa targets the rear most Corbie as the pass..
Will Save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
It slumps to the ground and Ulf hurdles it his axe biting deeply into the next in line.
Surprise round actions for the rest off you please remember unless charging you get only a single action.
Initiative Order
Ulf 24
Zaladrel 22
Omara 21
Runa 12+
Cinder 12
Corbies 4
4 seems to be what all my groups of bad guys in all my games are getting for initiative for the moment
Lissa Tesarani |
Lissa sees all her companions jump into action against the bird-men and she will not be found wanting here. She focuses her mind on the spell of summoning and pulls forth a creature from Nirvana to appear right in front of the creature Úlf attacked.
"Confn ekess sia aso rekisix di mitne!"
Casting Summon Monster I to summon a Celestial Viper. It immediately attacks the nearest rat.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
If it hits it deals 1d2-2 damage for a minimum and maximum damage of 1, plus poison.
Omara Dalaston |
Omara will charge the final creature and attempt to impale it with her rapier, deftly dodging Ulf's axe in the process.
Attack 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Good thing they don't get their Dex bonus, which means:
Sneak attack 1d6 ⇒ 6
Sorry I'm late, just got back from a movie. Yes, that one.
