Dabbler made a small error and showed the wrong room as being revealed..that will be the one that Marak opens as Romon already opened the one with the double doors..

Marak..the room to the west off the entrance seems to have been the Forts Library/Archive..it contains writing desks and tables and bookshelves that have for the most part been destroyed..the books lie in tatters on the floor.

Naria..The tower is a small cramped round room with a ladder ascending to the upper floor..you reckon that ogeres would never make it up the ladder.

We'd both already posted opening those doors! We would have had to retcon our posts and OOOhhhh the confusion. Better to just go ahead and open them and then stop wasting time.

I was just checking again to see if the snake-ladies crept in behind us.


Inikai...The room appears to have been the main Barracks..like everywhere else it is wrecked an blood and gore spatters the wall and floors.

Romon..What appears to be a guest room..again wrecked..

Naria..the ladder ends in a trap door.

Those giants don't disappoint. Having seen the amazing human quill, Romon hardens himself against similar scenes throughout the fortress.

Romon closes his door and glances quickly trough Inikai's. "Don't even think about what happens if they get a hold of us. Peachpits and cherrystones don't even cover it."

Ready to obediently follow once again.

I nearly posted that Inikai would follow Naria in order to back her up against any surprises. Then I remembered that he cannot see her, nor she him.


Naria manages to push the well maintained trapdoor open and finds that it leads to daylight. looking cautiously around she sees the tower has a battlemented wall running west and north away from it.

So, where/which way are we going? Also, might not be a bad idea to have ranged types up on the battlements, especially as it seems ogres can't get up there. Naria? Roman?

Inikai makes his way up the ladder with one hand extended in front of him. His hand comes into contact with what feel like invisible thighs. "Uh, sorry" he mutters quietly. Please let that be Esteriende he tells himself. Ali might take it as an invitation, and the men would never let me hear the end of it.


As Ali is still a wolf and not invisible I don't think you have any problems there

Ah, advance Where, exactly? Is the plan for everyone to go up the ladder? For that might not work so well for some of our four legged friends. Perhaps it might be helpful in this situation if Esteriande or Muchorak takes the leadership roll and just tells us all what the plan of action is? Ali's just not that type, so she's basically just waiting to find out what she's supposed to do.

To be clear, I have no problem with that, and could make some sense tactically, have some ranged support from on high while the melee types hit from the ground

Bears and even dogs can climb ladders, the latter with a little help but it's doable.

Esteriande chivvies the party and herself up into the upper level of the tower and checks the door to see where it leads.

Romon climbs through the trapdoor and looks around.


Crouching down behind the battlements you can observe the courtyard which is milling with Ogres..some who are bigger than others seem to be trying to beat them into some form of order but their chaotic nature mmakes that almost impossible.

What else is up there? An upper story I presume, but is there any means to gain entry?


the upper story of the fort has no connection to the walls.

The ogres look like they are beginning to realise that the attack is nothing more than harassment some off them are trailing off towards various buildings in the compound.

The fire you set on the barracks is out.

Crouched behind the wall, Romon peeks out between the battlements. One, two, three,... seven, (Did I ralready count him), eight, very ugly ...

The rogue does some rapid thinking, The party's breaking up. It's only a matter of time before some of them come back in here and we don't have an escape plan....

He intentionally lisps, "Etheriande. We thould get off the wall."

Wellard, can we get a rough count of big and small ogres, +/- 10 or 20%? Also, just to be perfectly clear -- we can see along the wall all the way to the cliff face and there's no noticeably route onto the parapets other than the ladder we just climbed?

Azoun, we didn't secure the doors. They were too broken.

Ali and Lunas, having not climbed up the ladder as yet, wait for their packmates on the floor below. Restless, they explore any areas the others have not been into yet.


Inside
The scent of ogre is overpowering in the keep as Ali and Lunas move back into the hallway..with the exception of the rooms already checked the doors are closed...and will need hands to open

Up on the Battlements.

There are at least 50 'normal' sized ogres and 8 of the larger ones who you would guess are the equivilant of sub chiefs

I am having trouble visualising this. The upper level is the 'roof' of the lower level plus the 2nd storey of the keep, correct? The second story of the keep should be accessible from this area in some way, if the keep follows standard castle design, we just have to find it.

"Indeed. To Ze upper keep," Esteriande whispers back. Esteriande moves to seek out the 2nd level access, staying low in case the invisibility wears off at an inopportune time.

Have to admit, I'm a little lost, spatially, as well. But didn't Wellard just say that there's no connections to the walls there?

While Lunas keeps guard, whenever Ali needs hands to open a door, she swiftly flows to Gnome and then back again once the door is open, nudging it open further with her direwolf snout.

Don't know which ones are open or not, she'll just pick the left side and go in order, to the next unopened one from the ladder


Ah I just spotted what was confusing me..Ok back on track now

The battlements are part off the flat roof of the first story of the keep, from where you are you can see no obvious way into the main part of the second story.You can however pull away from the battlemented area and essentially remain unseen

Esteriande..North or West for your search?

Perception checks for those on the roof still watching the compound.

Romon looks around. The lack of a clear exit route troubles him. Jerking his head for Esteriande to go west, he turns north. He moves in a smooth crouch along the along the battlement while his eyes sweep the area for entry back into the keep.

Fast stealthing -- normal movement speed. Take 10 = 29.

Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

So, Wellard, are you ruling that bears and wolves Can make it up a ladder? If so, what's needed? Also, are there any archers among the ogres


Bears can climb..and Lunas can make it with help..The ogres seem to be armed with the usual clubs ogrehooks and other crude melee weapons

Esteriande withdraws back around the tower to locate Romon and let him know of the door. She then returns to it while he fetches the rest of the party.
