I'm excited to get into a game with such a high level of writing from the DM and fellow players. It's been a while since I've done a PBP like this. I'm going to try my best to keep up with the rest of you and bring something to the game. Looking forward to it!

Of that I have no doubt whatsoever. Now, if you want to bring a gift to the party so-to-speak, I'm sure if you have an auto-boost option to their RNG rolls on the boards, that would be greatly appreciated ;)

@Willem Remember that Willem is prone on the stairs right now (AO25) in Round 10, and also while he can see Sorkana through the Capacitor chamber (at AL28), it blocks his line-of-fire completely. So unless you're looking to burn that Hero Point Willem has, it doesn't look like you can get a shot on her (standing up, moving, firing).
Also, the dropped fireward gem from the last fire sprite is on the ground in square AN33, and is visible.
DM Vord |
So. Close. Gemma. Great post too.
Though there's no Take10 in this encounter, Gemma will certainly be able to try again in Round 11 - On the Round 11 post I'll include some details on Aiding Another for STR checks, as well as how many people can aid another or try a STR check at once (four max., squares AZ17 to BC17).

Thank you GM Vord for the battlefield update ... :-)

Just a heads up that I will be out of touch until Tuesday while filming.if you have to NPC Ifris she will continue to relentlessly fight Sorkana and distract her from the wounded marine. If it comes down to Ifris taking a risk to save the marine's life she will.
See you guys Tuesday!
Just give us a shout here when you're back in action Robert, and I'll stop trying to kill off your chara...ERRRRR...stop DMPC'ing Ifris.

1. Can Willem tell if Sorkana is looking at him or engaged in combat.
2. If I spend a hero point, can Willem run up to the fire gem pick it up and run back to Emerson or the stair well?
3. Is Sorkana armed?

Hmmm...let's see...
1. Best guess by Willem would be that Sorkana is focused mostly on Ifris as she was just wounded by her, and not aware that Willem is conscious. However, once he moves this round he's going to be noticed.
2. If you use a Hero Point in giving yourself an extra standard action, I think it would only get you farther to the stone, but not much more than that, so you probably don't want to burn the big 'ol HP on just moving farther.
3. Sorkana is clearly a fire-caster, but right now she is holding a vial in one hand, and nothing in the other so she can cast spells. She may have a dagger at her belt but that's about it.

Sorry about the short post but Willem is trying to be discreet as possible and standing up takes too many actions to do much anything else than what he did without burning a HP. In addition, I have been pretty busy this week and did not want to hold up the game.

Sounds good - it's also reasonable that Willem would be cautious after being revived from the ordeal.
I'll see if I can get the top of Round 11 going in the morning (Ilton and Sorkana) before work tomorrow, which will allow everyone to take their Round 11 actions, so it won't be long before you can act once again.

God that was a hard post to write. I thought about trying to blindly hit her with the alchemist fire (and risk the miss chance) but I just saw it veering off and hitting some powder kegs or something and just blowing the entire ship to hell and back. 1 point of damage is still at least 1 point of damage! :|

Well in the very least, you gotta think Ifris has now made her conflict with Sorkana a bit more personal in nature!

Willem's up to finish out Round 11, and I'll get Round 12 up as soon as I see that.
In the meantime I'm working on my next Shale post for Johnathan.

In other news, I've been reviewing Pathfinder Unchained, and may consider adopting aspects of the "Automatic Bonus Progression" for our Zeitgeist campaign. I'm still early on in the review of it though to see if it makes sense and adds something worthwhile.
I've also picked up something called Fire as She Bears! from Frog God Games, as starting in the second adventure there are some great opportunities for ship-to-ship combat. I'm not overly keen on the Pathfinder Gamemastery Guide's ship combat rules, and unfortunately the "Seas of Zeitgeist" has a lot of holes in it that doesn't feel it's well-made for Pathfinder. So far the FGG's product is looking promising for later on.

Please excuse my absence, I should be back in the game Monday. I had a very busy and frustrating previous week and I am taking a break. If you need to NPC me or already have, that is fine. One more thing, it may take me a bit to get caught up but I will start Monday.
Thank you

Not a problem Anderlorn, but thanks for the info update. Normally I wouldn't DMPC anyone on a weekend, but I wanted to keep up momentum for the three PC's down below that are trying to stop the sabotage. At this point your Round 12 action can continue on as before or you can take him in a different direction for RP emphasis.
To me it appears that Round 13 may very well be the "final" round of this long and complex combat + skill + puzzle encounter, so play it up as you'd like over these next two rounds, and then I'll be moving on to some post-event narrative and such.

Almost caught up, I will post here tonight since I need to look at the map and adjust myself to the DMNPC. I can not look at the maps or anything at work.

Yeah I'm sure that image site is blocked by category for you...probably others like Photobucket are the same way. At my place of work I can get to Paizo, but d20pfsrd and other sites (such as my home-game based Guildlaunch site) are blocked under the 'Gaming' category by our web filtering platform.
Willem Muhnee |
We have a special web proxy package that allows us to bypass the enterprise one, which is a lot more stringent, but there are certain things that are still blocked like file sharing.

Working on a post now.

And yes, I agree with Robert as well. The automatic progression seems to fit Zeitgeist perfectly.
After reading the Unchained rules on Automatic Bonus Progression, a related variant treatment for armor/weapons in a Paizo Blog by Designer Mark Seifter, and a whole bunch of posts on the topic by various Paizo gamers, I am close to being certain we'll go with a modified Automatic Bonus Progression that fits the campaign. Zeitgeist has some rather unique things going for it (closely regulated stipends for wealth at specific times, strict limitations on flight/teleportation magic, plethora of firearm/alchemical/early-tech options) that favor some sort of hybrid approach on progression.
Right now I'm leaning on using Unchained's Automatic Bonus Progression rules to replace four of the "Big Six" items (Cloak of Resistance, Ring of Protection, Amulet of Natural Armor, Stat Belts/Headbands), yet leave the armor and weapons mechanic intact in the "normal" sense (magic weapons/armor have enhancement bonuses and are not part of character level progression), and not reduce WBL considerations to any great degree overall. That, plus some explainable "in the world" restrictions on Bane items should do nicely I think. That being said, I"m still doing my research on this topic.

Cat is out of the bag here a bit - though we technically have not finished the encounter yet (waiting for Gemma's post as well as any final Round 13 actions anyone else wants to do), the successful conclusion of the events on 1 Spring will bring all of you to 2nd Level. So you can start to plan out your 2nd Level at this time and update your characters!
NO increase in your wealth at this time please. Also, remember that anything acquired in the events of 1 Spring will need to be turned back in to the RHC HQ Quartermaster's Office (pistols, unused potions, etc.).
For hit points, I'm not a fan of taking the average (for PC's or NPC's). This is from my DM Vord profile page: "Hit Points Max at 1st level. Hit Points at subsequent levels are rolled - two rolls and take the higher of the two. On a truly horrible set of rolls, a Hero Point may be expended to make a single extra die roll, with average hit points counting as the "floor" of that roll."
Willem Muhnee |
Yes, I have a safe flight, looks like things are turning up now assuming you are in the US ... :-)
1. 1d10 ⇒ 2
2. 1d10 ⇒ 8

DM Vord, are we all healed up but not rested, correct?

DM Vord, are we all healed up but not rested, correct?
Right - I'm just hand-waiving the healing part because a couple of hours have passed and that would have been taken care of.
EDIT: Anneca is in a somewhat unique situation because of her use of the Brand, which ties into her character progression for later on.

I'll be leveling up Ifris tonight. Once we have a moment of downtime I have a post ready related to the further discovery of her psionic powers.
Very cool -- not to lead it out too much, but after the current scene you are all in on the ship I want to give each of you an individual "interlude" scene, tying in something to your respective backgrounds. So that can definitely allow for feeling out the aspects of your newly acquired level. That will also give me the space to complete Johnathan's introduction.
Willem Muhnee |
Is it Price-Hill calling Wil over or Delft?
Willem Muhnee |
I thought so but wasn't sure and I didn't want to use the wrong name ... lol

I'm back from my trip now. I'm not sure if you're waiting on me to post or what. I guess Johnathan would be trying to do some combat at this point, sniping from windows and such. I dunno how you want to handle that, Vord.

I've got one post buried in there already that you can respond to, and then I'll work in your sniper desire a bit as narrative in my next post after yours. Everything is still on track I'd say, even as I work the parallel scene with the rest of the party.

Just as a quick FYI, the post in question for you is #462.

So Anneca is unconscious for this scene and Arthur can be silent as we're transitioning him out, but I need Gemma and Emerson to get in on this scene. Major stuff just happened...they're Risuri patriots and the King's sister has just started an insurrection...I'm sure they have something they can talk about.
I've got stuff for both Willem and Johnathan to get written tonight, plus whatever is going on with the other PC's and Stover Delft.
DM Vord |
Okay...still have a post for Gemma and Emerson for me to do, followed by a special surprise for all in the room! Also a post for Johnathan on the Shale side. I envision changing the scene to our "interlude" period by mid-week next week.
Hmmm...just Ifris left to roll HP's for 2nd Level?
Also, I have some more work to do to flesh out some descriptions, but I've updated the campaign info tab with a better breakdown of NPC's and numbers at all four R.H.C. branches, and updated our current PC roster.
