DM Vord is just protecting his Sorkana because Willem was going to conduct some double-barreled musket surgery on her ... :-)
Willem Muhnee |
If your road block wasn't there, Willem would have given it a shot or double shot rather ... BOOM ... BOOM ... Two .58s center mass ... ;)
DM Vord |
@Isaac: Safe travels and have fun! Northern California was my old stomping ground as a boy in fact.
Slate Branch Trio: Soooo....in my haste to get you three into a scrap I realized last night that I had forgotten about a map for it! Working on that tonight, so hopefully I can get something suitable together for you, and then we'll setup the combat and get initiatives going and all that - oh and congrats for everyone not falling into the water :)
DM Vord |
So gang I was out late tonight with both of my daughters either being in a school play or competing for her annual chorus rating, so no time tonight to update the combats as I would have liked. I'll see if I can advance one of them in the morning before work, but if not I promise I'll have both updated by Friday night.

Sorry all if I am delayed, pain medication is doing well for my pain after surgery but not role playing. Be back on track soon.
Tobias Utegg |
Is there a cover bonus if I melee attack E3 from D3? I was waiting to see what Jesselle did before I moved but I can get a post up today to speed things along.
Willem Muhnee |
If Willem followed Gemma outside to M12, can he get a clear shot off on Sorkana since Gemma is off to his left and down 5ft?

Hmm...well Sorkana is even farther down the stairs than Gemma, so the way I'd need to rule that is that Gemma + stairs is going to provide Sorkana cover (+4 AC, +2 Ref Save) vs. your attack if you move to that M12 (somewhat M11-12 because of the way the guy did the map) space and fire. That still may be worth it to you though, as you have Precise Shot.

Good question Tobias - I'm going to rule that from D3 attacking E3 the marine will receive partial cover (+2 AC, +1 Reflex Save) since you can't get at his entire body, but you will have the 'On Higher Ground' (+1 hit) bonus, so that may be good enough to give it a shot.

Dude! Emerson, double 20s, definitely needed!
Ifris Lanvaldan of the RHC |
Ifris is going to throw a grenade between first and second floors to have blast come a little ways down the stairs to the first and second. Where does she need to stand to throw the grenade to do this without getting injured. Also, I imagine the structure can take a grenade since it is built from stone? I am guessing Ilton is at the top of the stairs on the second floor about to come down stairs and that is where she want to throw it. At least that is her guess and about the timing of it all.

Well you're going to use the same rules for throwing splash weapons in the CRB, throwing the grenade at a 'grid intersection' as a ranged attack AC 5 (w/ 10' increments) - only in this case the grenade does damage out to a 10' radius burst unlike other splash weapons. So let's say you want to target H-I/15-16 there at the top-right corner of the stairwell - basically a ranged attack AC 5 from where she's at in K13 (if she backed up 5' or 10' it would be a -2 to hit and be in the second range increment). HOWEVER (and this is where for me it gets fun hehe), the stairwell is now obscured by smoke, so after hitting that AC 5 she's gotta roll 50% concealment chance (1-50 being a miss, 51-100 being a hit), or she misses. At which point the splash rules force you to roll a directional d8 and the grenade will "bounce" or land 5' off in that direction for every increment you're throwing distance-wise. In this case a miss with a direction '1' would push it farther up the stairs, and a directional '2' or '3' would basically stay where it is...and a directional '4' or '5' would have it come back towards Ifris! But hey, those are the breaks for being a hero right?
DM Vord |
Well sometimes you just gotta take your shot (or throw in this case) and go for the best probability. I often look at the rolls as "fog of war" in that the best laid plans and tactics can always go awry or something unexpected happens. Not literal fog...even though in this case there literally is fog...smoky fog hehe.
Emerson's two 20's and two 5's were definitely what I would call streaky with that RNG.
DM Vord |
I'll post this morning for Ifris, sorry if waiting for me. I had to see the dentist yesterday for wisdom teeth extraction dry socket and had a lot of pain prior. Then about 3 to 4 PM, I fell asleep for a while because I had some sleep to catch up on after having painful nights awake.
Eesh. Well if you want Ifris to go (delayed) before the end of the round I can certainly wait - I was waiting also for Anneca's actions before going to the end of the round, so no worries here.
I'd like to post up the next round (9.1) tonight, but that's only if everyone is good with what they're doing in Round 9.0
DM Vord |
Color Spray: Will DC 15. Now I believe that if I angle it down from it's origin at E3 I should be able to hit all three living marines, or if it's ruled that I can only shoot o the level I'm standing on I at least hit the two directly in front of us.
Yep that was perfect placement, and the angle of the stairs was fine to extend it down to the bottom. One save and two failures for the color spray AoE goodness!
Tobias Utegg |
Love me some color spray! Also Tobias is activating his shadow splinter ability that he placed on Jesselle, which may alter yoir post. The description of the ability is on this alias I'd link it but I'm on mobile at the moment. Do you need me to post that I'm activating it before you resolve it?

Ack! Glad you said that -- okay let me see if I can edit here in time and at least defer the damage part, and then I can have you do the rest of it as to where it gets sent to...
EDIT: Okay she takes 1hp and the other 7hp you can roll Sergeant's Will Save along with the other turn actions for Tobias when you get to it for Round 4 - sounds good?
Tobias Utegg |
The will save actually goes to one of the unconcious marines (I'll roll randomly for which one), being unconcious blinded paralyzed do they still get a will save? I'm a bit fuzzy on those rules.

I'd say they do though they're not going to be very good at it unfortunately...somewhat academic but it's good that we're stretching our legs with these mesmerist powers a bit.
Tobias Utegg |
I agree, especially since the nuances of the class aren't much talked about yet, it's good that we have a trial to run them through before getting to the heart of everything. I should have the full post up in an hour or two. Thanks for the prompt responses!
Fethryth Teldanona |
DM Vord: I was just going to ask about that. If there's a chance the Sleep spell will knock out the Sergeant I'd like to see the results before I act. Thanks :D
DM Vord |
@All: I will be out of pocket today on my monthly RotRL table game, so I don't expect to update any posts until tomorrow.
@Slate Branch Trio: You three are essentially out of combat, so you may take additional actions as makes sense or speech if you'd like, until I get the next post up for you all on the Eminent.
@Anneca: That's...very creative and cool use of the air elemental. There's not a super clear interpretation of the effects of whirlwind on non-magical smoke, but I'm going to rule that it will mostly clear the smoke (or at least disperse it to a haze) after 1 full round passes. In the meantime, I'm going to post a spoiler for you that may allow you to take subsequent action as you see fit.
DM Vord |
@Axis Island Team: We are back to the minute-long skill encounter challenge for Rounds 9 and 10! Please revert your thinking back to minute-long actions and movement, not six-second combat actions and movement.
Right now we are at the top of Round 9, so you have a variety of actions you can undertake without enemy opposition yet BUT no attacking enemies that haven't arrived yet. Once the four PC's go I will resolve the enemy actions, per the skill encounter challenge rules laid out just as before.
Emerson and Johnathan may make DC 14 Fort Saves again to see if they can awaken, but they would not be able to act until Round 10 if they do wake up. Otherwise, they're out for the remainder of the fight.
Everyone clear?
DM Vord |
Is Willem able to move Emerson by himself? Or does Gemma need to assist? If he can do it alone that might free her up for another action
Since these are minute-long actions, only Willem is needed to drag Emerson back into the lighthouse - he's made that his action with the movement to inside the lighthouse (red area). So Gemma, Ifris and Anneca are able to conduct their "move" + "skill check" actions. Movement can be anywhere in any of the three defense areas, with that taken either before or after your skill check action.
DM Vord |
Slate Branch Trio: Though I'd hate to deprive you of any interactions with the crew of the Gryphon after your victory, I think it is best to get you all going to meeting the fleet and have your interactions there after you find out what has happened for that evening when you arrive there.
If you want to have any conversations for the prior action, just "flextime" it with a proper ooc-tagged header that indicates the place, time and characters involved, so that it makes sense to the reader.
DM Vord |
"As you seem to be here in the infirmary and Captain Smith has brought us to you, I can only assume that something has gone awry with the mission on Axis Island." She removes a letter from Dictator Prince Hill, "We were to give this to Senior Constable Sparhawk. Is she available?"
Hehe...now see I thought you all had a nice meeting with the good Nigel Price-Hill and didn't think so badly of him! :P
(auto-correct sometimes has its issues, doesn't it)
DM Vord |
@Cromlich: So in reading the rules for sleep and poison effects, the efforts of Ifris to wake Johnathan and Willem to bring Emerson in would wake both men up. However, they still need to make their DC 14 Fort poison saves in Round 9, or else they'll fall back asleep again (meaning they're out through Round 10 as previously stated). So you can make those rolls for both Emerson and Johnathan when you want, and act it out accordingly.

"Lanvaldan, Summers, Jackson, Hill, Atherton and that wretched little gopher Muhnee.”
"At least I don't look like a yella-belly non-legged Gopher."
:-)

Nice rolling Cromlich!

Nice rolling Cromlich!
I will say the dice have been going my way lately. Hopefully it lasts.
I'm having Johnathan and Emerson make their stand at the top of the stairs between the first and second floor.
Also, we've been pming tonight and I think Anneca and Gemma are going to use the boiling oil trick but need a third person to help. Maybe Willem or Ifris could do the honors?
