Setesh Bantling |
Setesh shrugs.
"Well, there is only one way to find out; we will have to investigate ourselves! Come, let us discover what awaits us within..."
With that, Setesh begins to purposefully make his way towards the entrance, his morningstar gripped tightly in his right hand...
Sorry to see you go, Bazil :-/
Setesh Bantling |
Setesh sighs in annoyance.
"Well, it looks as if all of the residents of the outer region will know we are here... Let's go to meet them..."
He then hurries forward...
DM - Voice of the Voiceless |
As you approach the entrance, you can see that the interior is filthy. There is food debris and rubble strewn across the floor. The entrance goes back about 40ft before meeting a wall. There are ten foot wide corridors at the extending on each side of the end. The dog-like creature is nowhere in sight.
Noor El'Harkon |
Perception -> 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
"Hold! There is a line stretched across our path. Low, near the floor."
Seeing the potential trap stirs something inside her. Noor sees the shimmer of a phantom scale-covered shield appear before her for a moment, then it fades away.
If convinced this is the only wire she will enter the tunnel.
Cast Shield AC now 20.
DM - Voice of the Voiceless |
Moving forward through the filthy entryway, the party enters the left corridor, to find that it is a twin of the other - merely bending around in a half-circle before entering another chamber beyond. Obviously the first wall is some kind of wind wall aiming to keep the worst of the desert storms from entering the structure proper.
The second chamber is slightly larger than the first, and has a number of small lean-to shelters against the wall. A stone statue graces the center of the room, though it has been defaced and chipped down to a nub that does not suggest what it originally looked like.
There looks to be a few side-chambers sequestered by doors further into the room. The fleeing creature is not yet visible.
Setesh Bantling |
Setesh scans the room.
"Well, if we are going to be methodical about it, we should clear-out each room as we come across it..."
He then begins the task of gingerly sifting through the room.
Perception take 10 = 17.
DM - Voice of the Voiceless |
As you investigate the room you uncover countless treasures.... well the way they were hidden makes it seem like they were that to the owners. A collection of insect corpses, some twigs and even a cache of buttons were found in the lean-tos, but no signs of the creature yet.
DM - Voice of the Voiceless |
Surprise Round:
With a now noticeable sound of tiny feet skitting across the stone floor, a number of small creatures burst into the room at the far end. A couple resemble the dog-like creature that fled from you initially; there are two insectoids with crab like heads wielding hammers, three bat eared creatures with pointed teeth and one larger than the rest hunchbacked with three eyes and most of it's body covered by oil-slick foul hair.
The larger one yells at the party "Bigguns is here and Boss says Bigguns need be make dead!" as it gesticulates crudely at the group.

Round 1: Creatures, Tarik, Setesh, Noor, Jaru
The oily haired hunchback skitters forward a bit and waves its hands in the air and mutters in a guttural language. The air shimmers around Setesh and Noor as a spell attempts to take hold. Will Save DC 13 please
The two insectoids move up to flank the hunchback as though bodyguards.
The dog creatures take potshots at Jaru and Tarik with their miniature bows.
Jaru shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 for 1 damage
Tarik shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 for 1 damage
The three bat eared critters hang back towards the rear of their group.
Can give me a Knowledge Nature or Planes to attempt to identify the critters.
The hunchback is about 20ft in front of you, the dog creatures are another 15ft beyond that, and the bat eared ones are near the dog creatures.

The dog-like one is a Pugwampi, friend to gnoll and bringer of bad luck to all those close to them.
The bat eared ones are Jinkin, they slink and slither striking from shadow, and can disappear to reappear close by.
The insectoid are Vexgit, experts at disassembling technology.
The hunchback is a Nuglub, and clearly the most dangerous. It can call forth magical forces and unnatural strength in its limbs allow it to trip and grapple creatures much larger than itself.
Both the Vexgit and the Nuglub are partially impervious to normal weaponry.
Gremlin are not known for their bravery, so perhaps if you were able to kill some the rest would turn tail and run.

Round 1
Will save -> 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Will be out all day so will post this early. Not sure Setesh's action would change this.
Noor looks at Jaru quizzically. "Why should I drop my sword when I can do this. She runs up along one side of the room to the hairy one. Coming at it, so that only one crab might attack her freely.
And with a yell seeks to cleave the hunchback in twain.

"You must be joking. I can't help touching metal!"
Will: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9.
Ouch. 8d4 damage that I can do nothing about is going to hurt, a lot...
He then downs his mutagen, and moves-up to engage the insectoids.
DM - Voice of the Voiceless |
Setesh - I'd let you blow a full-round action to shed the breastplate if you like.
Noor, having moved up to the hunchback, you're in the range of the unluck aura of the dog eared creatures (pugwampi). So any time you need to roll a d20, you have to roll two and take the worst result.
1d20 ⇒ 8 - so you miss.
Round 2: Creatures, Tarik, Setesh, Noor, Jaru
The dog eared critters fire their bows again
Jaru shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 for 1 damage
Tarik shot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 for 1 damage
The bat gremlins grin maliciously, winking out of existence and appearing next to Jaru and Tarik.
The insectoid move underneath your feet and swing their little hammers upwards toward your nethers. One AoO each for Setesh and Noor
Setesh attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 for 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 damage

As the tiny insect with the overlarge hammer moves into position at Noor's feet, a heavy backhand catches it across the midsection. Although it doesn't take as much damage as the strength of the blow it still reels in anguish as it's lifeblood starts to leak onto the floor.
The claw of the oily hunchback snags on Noor's heel, sending her crashing to the floor.

Round 2: Creatures, Tarik, Setesh, Noor, Jaru
Jaru's crossbow bolt goes wide of the mark and skitters off the floor into one of the lean-tos.
Setesh steps away from the insect like creature at his feet and promptly tears it to pieces. His claws and teeth meet significant resistance as they contact the creature, but her alchemically enhanced strength drives them through. However his breastplate starts to get uncomfortably hot 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage
Noor is currently prone, to stand would cop an AoO from the hunchback

Bat Eared #2 at Tarik: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 for 1 damage

Setesh swipes a pugwampi across the face, leaving a bloodied corpse in her wake - while the attacks of Jaru and Noor both miss the other unlucky creature.
Setesh's breastplate continues to heat up - starting to glow a dull red as it burns him - 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 damage.
Round 4: Creatures, Tarik, Setesh, Noor, Jaru
Seeing another of their number fall, two of the jinkin [bat-eared] look at each other worryingly - not willing to re-engage the party. The third strikes at Tarik once more.
