DM Stephen |
You awaken with a start...to the sound of screams! You are not sure what time it is and you feel a little disoriented from being woken up in the middle of your sleep.
At least one of the guards must be in his death throws from the sound of it. You see no light coming from what should be the fire outside but you can hear others around you yelling and grabbing weapons.
initiative strings:
Nim 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Kragnir 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10

Kragnir 10
Balani the Silent |
Balani roles to her feet at the sound of the comotion grabbing her bow and quiver that lay beside her. MAx2
She shakes the sleep from her eyes and tries to get her bearings as to where the commotion is coming from.
DM Stephen |
The screaming is coming from outside :] and it is completely dark, the light of the fire must be out. The noise is coming from the north. To the rest of the group other than Balanni and Kragnir, the noise is coming from just outside your tents.
You are all in 10x10 tents BTW. Your characters are just covering them up.
The screams of one man come abruptly to a stop except for a large tearing or ripping sound. Suddenly, 1d100 ⇒ 57 a bloody arm is flung through the tent flap bouncing off of Corbrius and landing between Tragershen and Mihai startling all of you.
Mihai and the rest of the group is up.
Balani the Silent |
Assume all Kragnir is going to be able to do is rise and arm himself so...
Balani, as stealthily as possible, pulls up the canvas of the tent to the west and slips into the trees.
Probably two move actions? Let me know what you think as far as actions goes. Will do a stealth check in case its needed. I am taking a -5 penalty to move faster than half speed.
stealth: 1d20 + 20 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 20 + 2 - 5 = 35
DM Stephen |
Kragnir can see in the tent fine, but he can't see through the tent walls until he moves out.
Kragnir grabs his hammer and stands. Mihai acts, casting onto his pillow, making the light shine inside the tent. He sees Corbrius standing with weapon in hand and Tragershen sitting there with his backpack on.
He pulls back the tent flap and gets ready to hurl it into the darkness. He immediately notices though that his light isn't illuminating past the tent flap...the darkness almost seems to be filtering in and making his light dimmer. His best guess...a more powerful darkness exists outside the tent.
Mihai can still throw it out or decide to keep it in the tent and close the flap...the light in the tent is dim, but you can still make out your friends in the tent???
Mihai Soarta |
Seeing the darkness pervasive and outside the tent Mihai curses and forestalls turning his pillow into a comfortable missile. He hisses to those beside him as he stands "The dark is not natural... I will seek to cast it back..."
Readying for casting daylight next round.
DM Stephen |
You move out of the tent, trying not to stumble through the darkness. The crunching noises to the north have stopped although you hear the guardsmen in tent grabbing weapons and sheilds. As you slowly move west you come out of the unnatural darkness into the night time sky. Back to the north and the east the only thing you see is a wall of black and the edges of the tents.
You are at about 1/3 movement due to fast stealth and moving in the darkness.
Order of Combat Round 2:
Balani 25
??????? 18
Corbrius 17
Tragershen 12
Nim 12
Wic 12
Kragnir 10
Mihai 9
Map has not changed other than Balani is in O/4. Corbrius delays but says, Turn the lights on me Mihai, I will make some copies of myself and see what in the hells is out there! loud enough so the entire camp can hear it.
Rest of the party is up in case you want to cast, ready actions, or delay.
DM Stephen |
Nim, Wic, and Kragnir delay until Mihai casts daylight! Corbrius then casts Mirror image and then leaves the tent, dispelling the magical darkness.
Images 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Map update either late tonight or tomorrow. Out of town at the moment, using the hotels free wifi. You will be able to see everything.
Balani the Silent |
I just realized you may be waiting on me! but am not sure with all the delayed actions.
Balani, moving around the edge of the darkness, is unable to see into the inky blackness. Hearing the shouts of her companions she waits until a target makes itself available.
DM Stephen |
Ok, back to the action!
Corbrius gulps as he sees the ape, larger than Wic, staring him down. Kragnir moves to within a 5' step of the beast but not enough to draws its attack. With light shining into the tent, Nim and Wic are confident they will be able to see the monster.
Order of Combat Round 2:
Balani 25
Dire Ape 18
Mihai 9
Corbrius 8a
Tragershen 8b
Kragnir 8c
Nim 8d (currently delaying)
Wic 8e (currently delaying)
Just Nim and Wic to go.
Kragnir Argak |
Posting from iPad so no formatting sorry. Looks like only a move action for Kragnir, leaving a standard to attack? Is K in a threatened square? If not; trip attack using reach weapon for no AOO.
Trip: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
Balani the Silent |
Balani smiles grimly to herself as numerous Corbius' appear bathed in light. She has no trouble picking out the huge ape on the far side of the camp and moves into position beside one of the tents (L8)
Shooting over her companions she aims for the beast while trying to maintain her hidden position. I think this is going to require lots of stealth checks and not sure if you will go for it. I'll do the rolls anyway. If first attack fails second one can't be done.
stealth movement to position: 1d20 + 20 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 20 + 2 - 5 = 31
stealth to complete a ranged attack and remain hidden: 1d20 + 20 + 2 - 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 + 2 - 20 = 10
+1 bow attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 1 = 181d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 possibly -2/-4 for cover?
Wicewakan |
Nim casts bull's strength on Wic and commands him to attack the threat.
Wic moves out of the tent (MA to H,I/9,10) and attempts to swat the intruder...
SA attack with claw -power att +bull's str: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
damage +power att +bull's str: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Status and Effects:
Nim AC: 13 HP: 50
Wic AC: 21 HP: 39
bull's strength expires in 5 min
Kragnir Argak |
I am trying to establish whether Kragnir is in a threatened square where you have placed him... If not i'd like to continue the double move two more squares east, which falls within his 40 feet movement speed.
DM Stephen |
Kragnir is in a threatened square. He ended his movement there as to not draw the AOO.
Wic heavy blow thunders towards the Dire Ape, but is blocked by its forearm.
The Dire Ape, with some enemies now in front of him, lets out a huge roar. The fear that you feel from it is unnatural, it tries to rip away your reason and send you fleeing into the jungle!
Those that are inside the tent feel the force of the roar shake the jungle but nothing else.
Wic, Corbrius, Kragnir make a saving throw vs. magical fear.
An invisible cone of terror causes you to become panicked unless you succeeds on a Will save. If cornered, a panicked creature begins cowering.
If the Will save succeeds, you are shaken for 1 round.
Corbrius Willpower Save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 Failed!
DM Stephen |
Wicewakan |
Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Wic freezes in terror before running off into the jungle...

Round 3 Init 8d
Nim removes a vial from his pack (MA) and dribbles the contents upon his scimitar. (SA apply poison, huge scorpion venom)
applying poison self exposure risk: 1d100 ⇒ 52 (pass)

Wic AC: 21 HP: 39
bull's strength expires in 5 min

Will: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18
Shaking off the fear-inducing effect of the roar, Kragnir held his ground with all the stubbornness he was rapidly becoming renowned for in Sargava.
Yer not so durn scary, ye overgrown chimp... the warrior muttered. Without his incredibly heavy, stone armor to ground him, Kragnir's powerful hammer swing threatened to bowl him over, garbed as he was only in his smallclothes. His hammer crashed into the ape's ribs with a satisfying sound.
5 foot step east and then attack.
Attack (Power Attack, Shaken): 1d20 + 13 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 13 - 2 - 2 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 11 + 6 = 25
Tragershen |
Tragershen steps out of his tent and, seeing the dire threat they face, begins casting.
Extended Haste, targeting Kragnir, Nim, Corbrius, Wic and Balani. Stepping to K9.
Kragnir Argak |
That Haste spell makes Kragnir's attack this round a 28, and gives him an additional attack.
Attack (Power Attack, Shaken, Haste): 1d20 + 13 - 2 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 13 - 2 - 2 + 1 = 21
Damage: 2d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 11 + 6 = 21
Tragershen |
I know. But given the chaos, lighting conditions and the fact they haven't had a chance to flee yet, I couldn't justify not targeting them... :)
Niɱ |
I know. Just teasing. :)
Unfortuneatly Nim isn't in LoE for the haste as he is still inside his tent. I suspect this is why he didn't have to save vs the fear.
DM Stephen |
Corbrius is taken by the Fear and drops his weapon before fleeing SE away from the huge ape. He is not around to be affected by the Haste when Tragershen walks out but he is spotted by Tragershen moving away from the camp.
Tragershen, you can retcon your action or ready an action to cast Haste when other party members come out of their tents.
Kragnir lands 2 heavy blows on the Dire Ape. He grins at the precision of his blows and as various bones crack and break. But his revelry is cut short when the Ape doesn't even seem to register the impact. It does slowly turn its head to face him and gives him an odd look...it can only be described as a grin...
Just confirming Mihai stays in the tent? We can confirm actions before I do the Ape's turn
Tragershen |
Thank you. Tragershen will still cast, targeting himself instead of Corbrius. If Wic has started to move away in fear, he'll target our guard in K7 instead of Wic; if Wic hasn't started to flee, he'll still target the faithful beast.

If anything, Kragnir's own blood-crazed grin only widened as it seemed the ape had a lot of fight in it. Assuming he could survive its attack in his smallclothes, Kragnir was more than ready for a brutal exchange.
