I blame WotC. They changed the price for boots of striding and springing with the switch from 3.0 to 3.5. :p

Gamemaster

Interesting... How much were they in 3.0?

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

2500 gp

Gamemaster

Seems more in line with the normal crafting rules... and would be good with the proposed boots of expeditious retreat(at 4000gp) as well.

I'm going to turn that around in my head a bit. It's still some time until 3rd level anyway.

Going to work out current XP soon too. Stay tuned.

Well, when you look at the change to the way skill bonuses granted by magic items changed from 3.0 to 3.5, you see where the price change came from for the boots of striding and springing. In 3.0, the formula for skill bonuses was: bonus squared times 20 gp. 3.5 changed the 20 gp to 100 gp.

So, in 3.0 the 2,500 gp price was somewhat correct, it should have actually been 2,750 gp, due to the multiple abilities on a single item rule (+50% of the lower base price ability).

Mechanically, by the RAW, the 3.5 and Pathfinder price for the boots of striding and springing is correct. Also, by the RAW, the price for the boots of expeditious retreat is correct as well.

Personally, I still use 3.0 skill bonuses formula, as otherwise the cost for skill bonuses in magic items becomes just stupidly high. A +10 bonus has a base price of 10,000 gp. Just my opinion, but that's how I do things in my games.

Thanks fir the early heads-up.

Will do that.

Devlin and Majet found: 4 tents, 15 lbs. of firewood and over 20 days worth of rations and food, the stack hid 543sp, 160gp, a pair of silver earrings, a wooden music box, 5 crates of furs and hides and a polished wooden case with 10 bottles of some greenish fluid.

What loot did the bandits have?

Any horses around aside from the ones we rode here on?

Gamemaster

bandit loot:
-5 leather armor
-6 longbows with 107 arrows total
-6 short swords
-coins worth a total of 90gp

One additional horse, this one seems in a bit better shape than the ones you took of the other bandits at Olegs. Probably the womans horse.

Grand Lodge

- 4 tents
- 15 lbs. of firewood
- over 20 days rations and food
- a pair of silver earrings
- a wooden music box
- 5 crates of furs and hides
- 10 bottles of some greenish fluid in a polished wooden case
- 5 leather armor
- 6 longbows
- 107 arrows
- 6 short swords
- GP 250
- SP 543
- horse

Time to divvy loot again.
How many of us are there now?
Can someone identify the greenish fluid for us?
Can someone appraise the value of the items we have?
Does anyone want any of the weapons or armor.

Gamemaster

Current group:

Agerron,
Big Ern,
Branomonrik,
Devlin,
Majet,
Michael (at Olegs)
Queslin.

(+2 captured bandits)

Michael wasn't there, but if a longbow and 2 dozen arrows are on offer, he would take one.

Given his comments in the main thread, he will also ask for a weapon, armour, bow and arrows for the bandit.

Grand Lodge

I'm fine with Michael getting the bow and arrows. At this time I also plan to give him an equal cut of the loot too.

Queslin is against this, but won't deny Michael if wants to equip the bandit from his own share.

It's been over a week, last chance to speak up about what you want.

DM Sothal, what is the greenish fluid? Does it radiate magic? If not what does it smell like?

Michael:
- longbow and 24 arrows

Queslin:
- 40 arrows

Keep for Group:
- GP 250

Give to Oleg for goodwill:
- all of the firewood

Gamemaster

The bottles contain a hard liquer, smelling like pine. No magic.
Devlin or Agerron tried one sip, I think.

The horse you found at the Thorn river camp: That's a combat trained heavy horse.

The crates with furs and hides originally belonged to Oleg (that's what the bandits collected as tax), but Oleg would buy them off if you don't simply give them back.

Grand Lodge

Of course Oleg can have his stuff back. I didn't realize that they were his.

Is the alcohol quality product? If so, Oleg can have one to keep for a special occasion. We'll use two to celebrate with over dinner and the rest we'll keep. If I recall, one of the bandits mentioned that the Stag Lord had a taste for the good stuff. We might be able to make use of it.

We'll switch the horse out. Perhaps Michael would like it over his current steed or maybe Agerron.

Dark Archive

male human

Agerron'll keep his current horse, but would like several of the bottles of liquor. Three or four, if no one else wants 'em. Otherwise, I'll just take a share of cash.

It doesn't matter to me one way or the other regarding the current list of loot.

Sell it all, split the money. Big Ern already took a longbow from before.

Gamemaster

Someone give me an appraise check for the liquer (and/or anything else).

Taras gets some equipment? (He had one each of leather armor, longbow and shortsword, and close to 20 arrows before getting caught.)

10 bottles,
-1 for Oleg
-2 for celebration
-4 for Agerron
leaves 3 for future use.

... somethings missing...

Kressle's loot! Big Ern took care of that.
-1 potion
-1 studded leather armor
-2 masterwork handaxes
-4 daggers
-some more money...

Grand Lodge

Let's be done with this.
Michael:
- 2 longbows, 44 arrows, short sword, and leather armor

Agerron:
- 4 bottles of liquer

Queslin:
- 40 arrows

Keep for Group:
- GP 250
- SP 543
- 3 bottles liquer
- unknown potion (can we get this identified)
- more money from Kressle

Give to Oleg for goodwill:
- all of the firewood
- all of the rations/food
- music box as a gift for Svetlana
- crates of furs and hides
- bottle of liquer

Sell to Oleg:
- 4 tents
- a pair of silver earrings
- 4 leather armor
- 4 longbows
- 23 arrows
- 5 short swords
- horse, trained warhorse
-1 studded leather armor
-2 masterwork handaxes
-4 daggers
== How much do we get?==

Gamemaster

All in all, Oleg offers you 800gp. He currently only has 500gp at hand, but can arrange the rest to have in about a week. (Or sell you something out of his store, or get you something from Brevoy...)

Grand Lodge

I don't want to leave him without any money so how about a cash payout of 350 gold (50 gold per PC) and the rest in store credit? As a group that would bring us to:

Pack Horse
Pack Saddle
- feed x24
- feed for medium animal x3
Saddles w/Saddlebags x2

At Oleg's
Credit 670GP
GP 100
Arrows x40
Trail Rations x10
All of which is noted on my character sheet.

Everyone gets 50 GP.

Gamemaster

Sure, no objection there.

So, fast foreward to the next day?

Sounds good to me!

Grand Lodge

Forward fasting sir.

Gamemaster

Okay, here's a rough map of the environment close to Oleg.

A: Oleg's Trading Post.
B: Thorn River camp (Bandit's camp)
C: Stag Lord's Fort (aprox.)

green line: Way to the bandit's camp
brown line: (top) South Rostland Road (Brevoy's east along the road)

Gamemaster

I updated my profile a bit, with a new section skimming important persons, updated XP and so on.

Also, currently writing a small update for the game thread.

Grand Lodge

I noticed you chose to use Whiner's and Runner's other names without even noting their new given names. This offends me greatly and I will not stand for it. I ask, nay, demand that you change it.

Gamemaster

Better yet?

I have added the equipment to Michaels page that he took, but I have not recorded the equipment for the Bandit Taras.

I also don't think the horse got claimed and so was sold, I was going to combat train mine, but this will save me the hassle, I think only two of us can ride is that correct?

Gamemaster

The heavy trained horse didn't get claimed, and was thus sold to Oleg.

Grand Lodge

Yes. That is better. You may now have a cookie.

Sorry you missed that horse. I did ask, though. Queslin is pretty good with animals. He'd (I'd) be willing to help train your horse if asked.

I knew the horse was sold, I just worded my post badly.

I can train the horse myself as I have handle animal, just takes an awfully long time.

Grand Lodge

I haven't looked at your sheets, but I suggest everyone invest in a tent and some rations as we explore.

Gamemaster

Okay, group on horses, except for Taras and Delfey. Makes for a groups speed of 30.

Whoever takes up the task of cartographer gets one free bonus skill point in both Craft (mapmaking) and Knowledge (geography).
(meaning: if you don't already have a skill-point in it, you then have 1 point and can use it untrained, but don't get the 3 bonus skill points if it's a class skill. You can spend one skill point at next level up to net those 3 points though.)

Any last minute purchases?

I got one vote for starting hex, which was NW, so I'm going to assume you all 'follow' Devlin.

Grand Lodge

If no one else wants to do it, Queslin will map the area as he guides the group. I can spare the skill ranks to make it worth it.

So we're starting NW and going in a circle around the hex that contains Oleg's?

Gamemaster

I updated the DM-profile again, added a link to a map of explored land, that is going to be updated regularly.

I also updated your XP for exploring 1 hex.

I am glad Queslin volunteered I was struggling to find where to take the point from.

Gamemaster

Just for OOC-Info: your prankster has greater invisibility on him, so yeah, he can cast that spell without getting visible.

Gamemaster

Would you like to have some more time to discuss?
Or shall I press on to the next day?

Up to you.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

sorry guys I have not been around much of late. Having some issues is all, will try to get back to normal posting.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

And the issues keep going. Power supply died on my pc, will be next week before I can get it fixed. So my updates may be slow again.

Gamemaster

Thanks for the info.

I miss hearing from Majet though.

Gamemaster

I'm sorry for not being online the last few days. Real Life has held me up, and I needed a break from the computer.

I updated my profile, included a calendar with a short summary of sorts. (I hope you all have MS Excel (or something to open .xls files) to view it.)

Hope you all had as nice a weekend, as I did.

DM Sothal wrote:

That's very helpful, thanks!

Gamemaster

You're welcome.
If you have any ideas for more stuff to have ready for you, just name them, I'll see what I can do.

I updated the profile (again) btw. this time including the open quests that you could take on.
Notice that the first three are from the WANTED board at Oleg's, while the other two I included have come up previously in the game.

Also, I'm going to post an update to the game thread in a bit (maybe two hours from now?), jumping to the next intime-day. (You may retcon stuff to happen at Oleg's this day anyway.)

My Laptop finally died on Friday, so I am stuck posting from my phone, which makes me as mad as a bag of badgers. DMPC me if my posting rate slips please.

Gamemaster

Will do, thanks for the headsup.

I hope you managed to save most of your important data.

Take your time and best of luck with getting a cheap new one.

*bows*

Greetings.

As I have been invited to do, I present a potential character for DM Sothal to peruse.
