Dwarven druid? Intriguing.

I figured i would make a guy who is a little weird. I am not really a great role-player, so it helps me to have some kind of extreme shtick I can keep referring back to. This is part of what I sent in (mildly corny, but i think that is characteristic of "high fantasy"):

Spoiler:
In his youth, Belegost Skaldorsson worked as a stonemason in the depths of the Golushkin mountains. While he enjoyed the challenge and accomplishment of his craft, he always felt that he had missed some important path he was meant to travel.

For many years, he attempted various explorations to fill (or at least understand) the mystery of this void -- ranging from study in the Mountain Kingdom's venerable libraries, to dabbling in other professions, to extended, contemplative sojourns through the vast caverns of the Mountains' subterranean wilderness. He enjoyed these latter the most, but he never quite found what he was looking for. As time passed, he grew increasingly restless and disturbed by this situation, retreating more and more from the company of his fellows.

A few years ago, Belegost made a breakthrough of sorts while traveling with a merchant caravan on a trip to deliver Dwarven craftworks to [some Rostlander settlement, a ways from the Mountain past an area of wilderness, but along the Issian border]. (The caravans often included some of the craftsmen, for the purpose of discussing particulars of newly commissioned work. Belegost usually managed to avoid these sorts of responsibilities, but occasionally his luck would fail and he would wind up assigned to such a task.)

While the caravan was passing through an unpopulated stretch of wilderness, it was set upon by raiders. This was quite a startling event in generally-civilized Brevoy, and something didn't add up ... Keen of eye and wit, Belegost recognized both men with the look of Issian soldiers and that of mercenaries among the raiders. The merchants were routed, killed or fled into the forest. Belegost attempted (unsuccessfully) to fight, and was left for dead.

Belegost spent several days unconcious and feverish on Death's door. During this time, he experienced various hallucinations and visions, which he interpreted as a sort of religious experience. Whether this was really true or not, when he awoke, despite being broken, bloodied, and starving, he felt better than he had for most of his life -- he had found his calling in the Wyrd.

Belegost woke to find caravan's treasures plundered, the wagons burned, many of his kinsmen dead, and the rest several days' gone. He was in a state of shock. It took him many months to recover from his physical and psychological wounds, and from his strange religious experience. He spent much of this time distracted by the day-to-day struggle of survival in the wilderness.

While the forests of the northern Rostland were not anything like the caverns and tunnels he explored in his youth, there were yet similarities. And always now, he felt the guiding hand of the Wyrd steering him. He survived, and over time it became startlingly easy to do so. He found a great deal of peace and joy in his solitary life.

But as he had more and more time to think about the attack, he began to put things together. Had he heard rumors of strife between Issia and Rostland before he left? He cursed himself for how little attention he had paid, for being so withdrawn from the world. But he thought he had heard such rumors. And his caravan was carrying supplies intended to shore up the walls and defenses of [whatever border settlement it was]. And why had the merchants brought along skilled Dwarven stonemasons to consult with the humans? He seemed to recall that it was related to walls and fortifications.

Yes, this attack made all too much sense now. Belegost began to harbor a hatred for Issia. Over the next few years of his solitary life in the wilderness, this hatred grew hotter, past the heat of the Forge, rivaling the heat of the molten pools below the Mountain ... Nobody holds a grudge like a dwarf.

During these years also, the wilderness he had made his home faced slow encroachment by populations of Men. He must have cut a strange figure to the men, a gaunt and sunburned dwarf with wild hair, moss in his beard, and a strange fervor in his eyes... But he came into contact with them more and more, trading goods, services, and information. He preferred the solitude, but he had made several good friends among the men. These men, inspired by the moss, called him Belegost Greenbeard.

When he heard through these men that the Lords of Rostland were chartering adverturers to explore the vast wilds of the Stolen Lands, Belegost considered this deeply. It was appealing to him to strike off away from the noise of civilization... But he would not withdraw from the world again. He had a duty.

It was only when he began to suspect the political motivations behind the charters that he submitted his application. He would not be withdrawing from the world at all -- but on the contrary, potentially playing a pivotal role in it. And best of all, he would be setting Issia on the path to ruin.

He was as surprised as anyone when his application was accepted, and eagerly set out south.

[It may be that one of the men he traded with is another of the PCs, and they go together.]

I don't know really anything about the setting, but I found this thing http://paizo.com/products/btpy8dqh?Pathfinder-Adventure-Path-Kingmaker-Play ers-Guide and was looking around online some ... it seems like the Golushkin dwarves disappeared at the same time as the conquerers (Rogarvia or whatever). So, I think this dwarf would have had to be living on the surface for 10 years or something like that, and so he won't know what is going on with the mystery.

I applied on day one of the recruitment - am just itching to see the conclusion of this one :D

I think I was on day two or three, not gonna lie, as the submissions have come in, my high hopes of joining this epic quest have dwindled lol. Ahh well, just a few more days now

I am hoping my mildly unusual form of application went over well I guess I'll find out soon. It's weird for me to wait so long on building a character after coming up with a concept.

I know right... I have resisted the urge to put together an alias, to look at class features, etc. It is kinda nuts, but not necessarily bad lol.

I keep debating with myself, if i should submit my character or not. I really like her but i've never done play by post before. Though i guess the good side of this i made a character that i really enjoy ^^

Go for it! We all had to start somewhere, didn't we?

Yes! Most of us start at the beginning though.

Silver Crusade

If chosen, this will actually be my first play by post for roleplay. I've done it before, only that was a "pick a nation, roleplay what happens, change alliance, whatever," about 5 years ago now...

God I'm a nerd, but I love it!

And i sent it in ^^ Here's hoping. It was fun just putting this together ^^ not to mention the sound of kingmaker. The group i play with in person tossed it around as an idea before we went a different direction.

Best of luck!

Indeed, I am routing for all of you. I look forward to hearing how the game will unfold.

Just a gently rapping here to see if my application fell between the cracks, or if something about it was unacceptable (Character: Mikhail Vaughn-Sarovik), since I haven't heard anything.

If you do not hear back it is possible that your application did not meet ANY of the selection criteria and you should think about revamping it.

I think DM Skull has already answered your question.

Honestly, I'm starting to think he's gone too far with this recruiting concept. A lack of communication can be more destructive than trouble with following instructions, after all.

And, yes, I realize I may have just disqualified myself. Oh well.

I think it has more to do with him having a busy schedule and not much else to say until the deadline hits.

@hustonj: I have answered the same questions time and time again, both in PM and on the two threads involved with this. It's not lack of communication, it is multiple tests for those who want to apply. Should you disagree with my statement or feel dissatisfied with the way I am proceeding, feel free to bow out. However you will not be disqualified simply because of your statements. Should you wish to continue your application will go through the same scrutiny as everyone else and my decision will be based ONLY on quality and the rules I stated in the first post.

As I stated in an earlier post, I am GMT+1. Thats 6 hours ahead of east coast time. I am in bed by 6-7 PM east coast time and I am awake right around 1-2 AM east coast time. That means sometimes there will be a delay between posting.

I will not hide rules or blast your character because of a misunderstanding. I try to play as fairly as I can, both as a player and DM. That being said I am challenging all of you to create a character without starting with dice. That is the point behind all my 'lack of communication'. Not being impulsive, paying attention and creativity.

Please ignor any information except my back story. I summited this toon to another group as well.

So is there anything in particular about my application that would benefit from change? Should I re-write the entire concept or change a specific portion of it? From the perspective I'm standing at now I don't see anything that runs counter to the concept presented in the opening post. I'm not sure if I'm missing another oblique rule.

@Robert... for instance, I first made a submission, and forgot to include the phrase purple squirrel. I re-worked it and within a few hours heard back from the DM that my submission was now included.

Point being... check and double check to make sure you have all of the requested information, if you don't hear from him afterwards... then I dunno what to say lol.

It's all there.

They showered him with purple squirrelsarrows and left his corpse to rot in the sun.

Eh, odds are I'm looking too deeply into it.

I don't know, but I can say, I would love to play in a game with you, I follow your Reign of Winter campaign and I love your style as a DM. I imagine I would enjoy you as a player just as much lol. (Reading back over that, it sounds like I am a star struck girl meeting Justin Bieber for the first time...) Sorry about that Mr. Bieber... I mean Brookes... lol

I look forward to seeing what DM Skull thinks of my concept.

I reviewed my character and noticed I was missing information about my race & discriptions. I hope this is what you are looking for.

So I am a dad of a 5 year old little girl and 4 month old twin boys, how sad is it that I am contemplating staying up till midnight just to see what DM Skull does with this thread? Too invested right?

Too invested? Hardly. I really want to see who made the final cut!

well, you're probably going to be up anyway ...
But I don't think the guy is going to post right at midnight.

Well our midnight is different than his midnight...

Ill be up, waiting...

He did say the deadline was Midnight PST, so 2am EST which is about when he wakes up over in Germany? So we should know sometime after that point. I don't want him to rush his decision no matter how much anticipation i feel about finding out who made the cut ^^

Good points, alright, maybe, just maybe, I will go to bed and just hope to see something in the morning, who knows.

Think about as a surprise to wake up to!

i'm just saying ... i don't think the guy is sitting over there in his dr claw chair stroking his cat or his goatee, sitting with his finger over the big red button, preparing for the midnight reveal ...
i imagine he'll probably like get in from work late, get drunk, pass out ... sometime tomorrow he'll be stumbling around and be like "oh yeah, i wonder if my internet D&D thing is ready yet ... i should really get around to going to look at those character submissions..."

I don't know, I really like the Dr. Claw image with his finger on the big red button, lol.

Not been posting much on this recruitment thread since submitting character concept, but been waiting with bated breath too. Been catching up on the threads on this post, and it's been hilarious - whether my monk is selected or not, will be a lurker as I think the group that goes ahead on this adventure will be awesome.

Since Pacific time is 3 hours behind East Coast time, that means that he's promised to post a decision within 1~2 hours after he gets up. Not at the end of a hedonistic night.

I can't stay up... its 12:49 a.m. I'll see the results when I wake up...

Folks, chill. Submission deadline is end of today, friday, not yesterday. You should see my answer sometime this weekend, I promise.

And my beard is nice and thick and all over my face, really needs a trim. Not pointed. I hate pointy. *shudders*

Bwahahaha! The end is nigh, and I hope you all have no final regrets. I have good feelings about everyone that put something in and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for how those of you that will soon begin travelling together decide to shape your destinies. The personalities, the stories, I eagerly anticipate all the excitement that you all will be bringing to back up the time and effort you poured into the concepts that you submitted.

Silver Crusade

Since Skull doesn't want us to roll any dice, I'm rescinding my rolls from earlier, and will discuss actual character creation beyond my chosen traits after the selection has been made and if I am chosen.

So would I if I could...

I simply didn't quite understand the sentence "Don't get to crunch until final group is selected last weekend on saturday." in his PM. As I said I a new to these forums and not to familiar with the way of putting things here. (Who gets to crunch what? Why "get" to crunch? If there is a final group does that mean there are several groups? Did he ommit an "I" at the start of the sentence or is he referring to me?)

I figured there was a possibility that he wanted to say I am not supposed to roll the dice, but also that he simply wanted to say that it's not definite that I am in the group, meaning he "crunches" the applications and selects the group.

Silver Crusade

What he probably means is don't roll any dice, don't choose feats and buy equipment until he announces the people who will be in the game officially, or if you are chosen as a possible backup. Crunch is a catch-all term for stats and info about a character or encounter.

That would qualify as an obsessed fan fail right? Dang it... Skull, you are killing me! lol

Not yet KDinIN. Not yet. And death is not the worst I can do to you. Muahahahahaha! *strokes the bear fur on his cheeks and chin*

I knew it wasn't till tonight that it ended but i seem to have had a fail on my time conversions >.< this has to be a result of spending several years bouncing between two timezones.

Yeah I know that feeling, but if you want an exact deadline...

I would have to guesstimate that 14hrs from now, give or take how soon he gets on the computer, he will make his call and let you all know.

It was more i was trying to help those out who where looking for a more exact deadline. I've turned my character in, I am now waiting and I know that it will likely be sometime tomorrow before i get to check if i made the cut or not. I'm not stressing on it and am excited to get to check tomorrow to see who made it or not.
